Miss Shirley is a wonderful host and an excellent cook. The Kerr Lake area is very relaxing and great for fishing/hiking. Right off I-85, this is an attractive alternative to Quality Inn, etc.

What an absolutely lovely, wonderful and comfortable stay for weary traveler from Washington D.C. arriving from almost 5 hours of driving in the rain. Beautiful and restful rooms with a delicious breakfast and wonderful hostess and Innkeeper.

The farmhouse is quaint and rustic outside, but pleasantly decorated on the inside. The rooms are small so we didn't have a lot of space for luggage. They accepted our dog and it was a wonderful outside area to walk her, plus it was very well air conditioned for her to stay behind when we were out and about. I like to sit outdoors on the porch, but the furniture was not very clean...perhaps because it was a farm...the "camp" area was very rustic, but fun to visit as it gave the history of the tobacco farm. Shirley is a welcoming innkeeper and served lovely breakfast to us.

The cabin accommodations at the Lamplight Inn are absolutely charming. I only wish I could have stayed longer. My only critique is that they are in need of a good old fashioned, top to bottom, professional cleaning. I know that cabins are meant to be rustic, but it just doesn't seem like they've gotten the attention that the rest of this beautiful property has. If they did, I'd stay here every time I was in the area! Loved it! Oh, though the website may give the impression that breakfast is included with a cabin stay, it isn't.

As a retired military officer and now a senior government official, I have experienced a wide variety of travel accommodations and been exposed to cuisine on a global scale. My stay at the Lamplighter is without a doubt among the most enjoyable and satisfying that I have ever enjoyed. The manager, Shirley, is an extraordinary hostess, the rooms are neat and well cared for, the food is OUTSTANDING!! Do not let the quaint farm exterior fool you. You cannot go wrong staying at the Lamplight.
