The Inn at Glen Alpine

Host was wonderful - made us feel at home. Exceptionally neat and clean rooms. Quiet location, except for the train, which was a pleasant reminder of the past. Modern bathroom. Difficult to find a better breakfast. The best measure of any place to stay or restaurant is the answer to this question: "Would you visit again?" My answer for the Inn at Glen Alpine is an unqualified - "YES."

Jane met us at the front door with a warm greeting and made us feel totally at home. The Garden Room was beautifully done, wonderfully inviting, comfortable and clean. Information on attractions and places to eat were freely offered. We spent an enjoyable evening chatting with Jane in the kitchen before turning in. Our breakfast was a great start to a busy day. A longer stay is definitely in order!

This was a last minute booking whilst we were touring NC Jane was most welcoming and friendly, and full of helpful information. The house was impeccable. Lovely room and excellent breakfast - it felt as if we were visiting friends. Thank you Jane for a great stay !

This was my first time at a B & B and I was absolutely charmed. The pictures shown on the website are a very accurate representation of what to expect. The Innkeeper was charming and very knowledgable of the area even though she isn't from North Carolina. Loved the wide porches. Do not stay here if watching TV is important to you as the TV's in each room are quite small.

We stay at the B&B when breaking a seven hour drive in half, and also just to get away. The owner is helpful, friendly, and had a great cook. We're so glad we found this place.

We visited the Inn at Glen Alpine and also attended the wine festival there. Beautiful home, excellent breakfast and most gracious innkeeper! Fabulous time! We will be back!

I was in the Morganton area for a professional interview and wanted a restful place to crash. Jane's place was the perfect choice. My friend and I loved our room (The Garden Room) and felt very well taken care of throughout our two night stay, including our lovely breakfasts and the offer of a glass of wine in the evening. Jane also went out of her way to help me get a feel for the area, as I hope to be relocating here soon. Overall, I don't see why you would want to stay anywhere else in the area. This is a perfect launching pad to explore Burke County. Jane is a friendly and wonderful hostess, and you can't go wrong with her bed and breakfast.

The Inn at Glenn Alpine was first picked because of it location. It is close to the beautiful mountains and scenic wonders of western N.C. and I saw the beautiful porch online. My brother, sister and I had not been together for five years and we wanted to be able to visit. The Inn at Glenn Alpine turned out to be so much more. Attention to detail, great food, a lovely host, and a warm atmosphere made for a perfect venue for our visit. Excellent!

I and 2 of my friends spent 3 nights at this quaint B&B & really loved the well cooked breakfasts & evening get-togethers with other guests to discuss our exciting days. It was a terrific getaway.

Staying at the Inn at Glen Alpine is like going home. Jane is always glad to see us and the rooms are so inviting. Don't let the location or size of community scare you away. From the Inn its just a short walk to the ice cream parlor, local diner, winery, antique shop and the Family Dollar store. Truly a tight knit community with friendly locals that will talk about most anything. Your a short driving distance from Hickory, Black Mountain, The Biltmore Mansion, and Ashville. For the nature lovers there's the beautiful Lake James State Park, Blue Ridge Parkway, and much more. Our hostess, Jane, was a source of knowledge regarding the local mountains, hiking trails, streams and natural water falls. And a great cook! Tim & Kandy Davis

My husband and I had never stayed at a B&B before and had decided to try one in the hopes to get a better feel for the area. Everything about our stay in mid-March was wonderful; the innkeeper is very knowledgeable about the area and was able to help us decide on places to visit during our stay.

Our stay at the Inn at Glen Alpine was our first taste of bed and breakfast life. And I must say it was a great treat. Jane and Skyla were such a delight. Jane made it so easy to settle in and feel at home. Not only did she cook like a top notch chef but she made us feel at home. I would recommend her to anyone looking to stay in that area. We are hoping to go back to visit the Inn at Glen Alpine and enjoy some spring time there. Jane will always be considered a friend.

My husband I stayed at the Inn while searching for property nearby at Lake James. Jane was wonderful! She gave us maps of the nearby area, suggested a few places we might like to visit, and was overall very friendly and accommodating. The breakfasts, per our choice, were "Innkeeper's Choice". Every morning was a lovely surprise. We will be staying here on future househunting trips.

Just a great experience at the Inn at Glen Alpine! Jane is great and the breakfast is wonderful. Have stayed there two straight years on our anniversary and will probably stay again in the future. The spa room is awesome and everything is spotless!

My husband and I recently spent 3 nights and felt like we were staying with a beloved relative. Jane is a great host and the inn is beautiful and nicely detailed. Evening chats on the verandah were an unexpected delight as Jane told us stories about the history of the area. One caveat: the train comes through during the night and if you're in the front rooms with your window open, it will wake you up. But with the window closed, it was a gentle reminder of days gone by. We will return!

Our room was perfect. A large, extremetly comfortable bed with a sitting room off to the side. A chaise lounge in the sitting room made reading a luxurious experience. Jane is friendly, attentive and truly cares about each guest's experience and comfort. She provides all the ammenities, chocolates in the room, cookes and coffee just outside the door, and freh flowers that she grows in her garden. A gem in a small town.

This past weekend my husband and I stayed for two nights at The Inn at Glen Alpine, and we thought it was an outstanding experience. We have stayed at many B&B's ; and quite honestly, this was the first time an innkeeper met us at the door, introduced herself and warmly welcomed us. The innkeeper, Jane Hogg, is a really interesting and nice person; and we had a number of very good conversations with her. We also met several fascinating guests at the two breakfasts we had there. The suite we had was very pretty, spacious, and had everything we could hope for to make us comfortable. The breakfasts are divine(stuffed French toast one morning). Jane helped us with maps, restaurant suggestions, etc. I highly recommend this inn. Anne

We have just returned from our 3rd stay at the Inn at Glen Alpine in a year and have been treated like royalty each time. Jane is a fabulous host, going the extra mile to make sure guests are comfortable and well-fed. She even accomodates my gluten allergy, preparing special meals just for me. That's above and beyond!

I have never stayed at a B&B before so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was thrilled and definitely expect to return to the Inn at Glen Alpine. The home is gorgeous and incredibly spacious and very clean. Jane, the innkeeper is so accommodating. We arrived much later than expected due to travel complications and Jane not only didn't mind, she fixed us a sandwich at 11pm since we hadn't had any dinner!! Her breakfasts are out of this world. I just let her surprise me every morning because I couldn't even dream up anything close to what she fixed for me. I taunted my friends who weren't staying there with all the details of my multi-course breakfast every day! I stayed in the Spa suite which was so beautiful but all the rooms are wonderful. I really felt like family and was treated so. I am thrilled about my new friend in Glen Alpine and look forward to staying with Jane again next summer hopefully, if not before.

The Inn at Glen Alpine was an ideal place to stay while visiting friends in the area. The extra comfy bed in the Magnolia Room, the delectable breakfast, and a gracious innkeeper made our two day stay a most pleasant one!

We just returned last night from a two night stay at the Inn at Glen Alpine. What a wonderful stay we had! Jane is a lovely person and a wonderful hostess. She does not treat you as paying guests but as family while you are there. Everytime we returned to the Inn my husband would call out to her, "Hi Mom, we're home!".... Jane is very accomodating and breakfast can be anything you want although both days we let her choose and we were not disappointed. My husband and I recently bought property in nearby Lake James and will definitely be returning to the Inn whenver we are in the area. If you need picnic food, stop the Depot which is around the corner from the Inn. It's a local luncheonette and the owner will make you great sandwiches to take with you. Also visit the Lake James Winery (right across the street from the Inn) and have a tasting ($4 per person which includs a Lake James Winery glass)... My husband and I highly recommend The Inn at Glen Alpine. Jane, if you are reading this we will see you in the Spring!!

Visiting here every couple of months is like going to see a favorite aunt back home.

The house was just beautiful outside and inside. Very well restored with beautiful antiques. The rooms were so lovely... far more so than the pics online do justice. Fresh flowers in the rooms. Bathrooms were luxurious and well stocked. The bed was awesome. I loved the coverings for the beds... they were beautiful. Jane is a wonderful hostess and a great cook. She was someone we left thinking of as a new friend. The value for the rooms and the service is really great. We will definitely be staying with her again!

Great one night stay. The rooms were large and clean. Breakfast was fantastic and Jane was extremely nice. The porch was exquisite. Would definitely go back and highly recommend to others!

Visited the Inn for our 25th wedding anniversary to just get away and relax. What a wonderful atmosphere and a fabulous hostess. The Inn is charming and in a quaint little town (reminded us of Mayberry!). Best front porch in the south!! The service and food was out of this world. Jane made us feel special - like we were part of her family. Would recommend highly to anyone who wants to get away from it all, relax and enjoy a quieter, simpler time. 5 stars!!! and then some.

We felt like we were staying at a friends' home. Jane had every room looking fresh and neat, breakfast was a fabulous treat, and she did everything to ensure we had a wonderful stay. We will definitely be back!

While this was a business trip and my time at Jane's inn was limited, she made the experience positively marvelous. Completely unexpected for such an out-of-the-way place. Elegant but comfortable furnishings, immaculately clean, and delectable (and decadent) food. It's quite obvious that owner Jane loves her B&B and her guests which really made yet another night on the road all that more pleasant. Highly recommended to anyone passing through or as a destination in itself.

My husband and I just left the inn today. We had a wonderful time. Jane is one of the most hospitable people I've ever met. When you stay at Jane's place it is like you are staying with a family member not a stranger. I am a very picky person and like things a certain way. Jane did everything to meet my dietary hypoglycemic issues and even warmed our cream for our coffee each morning. We look forward to visiting her again on our next stay. My husband and I spent Labor Day Weekend with Jane and her guests and had a ball. We've never felt so at home outside our home. The rooms were clean, the service was outstanding, the food was delicious and the inn keeper was friendly, knowledgeable and a real hostess. I highly recommend this B&B. The Inn at Glen Alpine was a perfect place for our group of friends to gather for a weekend. The AMAZING PORCH is the perfect hang-out spot, and the innkeeper is the most accommodating I've ever encountered. She really made us feel that her house was OUR house for the weekend. It felt like we had rented out an entire big house instead of 4 rooms at a B&B. Breakfast was very well-prepared and plentiful, and the innkeeper included a vegetarian version and a cheese-less version of the breakfasts to accommodate our diverse diets!

We feel like we made a friend in Jane. The location is terrific for touring the area of Boone and Blowing Rock and is a great value. The home is amazing and the rooms are spacious. The bed is sooo comfortable. The breakfast will have you skipping lunch, very, very good. The best part is Jane, she is just a delightful host!

We recently stayed at the Inn at Glen Alpine when in Morganton for a friend's wedding. We were initially attracted by the promise of the best porch in Burke County, and we were not disappointed. In addition, the Inn provides a tremendous value for the rate, with an amazing breakfast prepared by the thoughtful innkeeper, Jane. Why stay at a chain hotel when you can stay here, and feel at home?

We spent four wonderful nights and five days at this lovely 1913 B&B. Jane, the innkeeper, is a real gem. It was our 40th anniversary - mimosas and a lovely toast one morning; advice on a super-nice restaurant to celebrate the occasion; evening wine and cheese on the porch; and the most delicious breakfasts I've ever had at a B&B - and each one different. We wanted to go hiking - maps, snacks, water, a pack to carry our 'provisions' and on day 2 when we went up the second mountain, walking sticks to make the climb easier. Helpful advice on where to go, where to eat, where to find just about anything we were looking for was readily available and cheerfully provided. Afternoons and evenings on the porch were so relaxing. I want to go back when I can have more porch time! And Skylar is precious! We are very much looking forward to our next stay. And nowhere else could you walk into a strange restaurant in a strange town and have your B&B hostess welcome you to join her table of friends and neighbors who were out having dinner. It was one more delightful evening in a string of enjoyable days and evenings. We recommend The Inn at Glen Alpine to anyone who is looking for a peaceful, inviting place to stay that is more than a notch above your chain hotels.

A friend and I stayed at the Inn for 2 nights while looking at properties in the Lake James area. The innkeeper, Jane, was wonderful to us. She helped us find good restaurants, brough us wine on the massive front porch and shared her wonderful little poodle with us so we didn't miss our dogs as much. The food was delicious and enough for 5 people, not 2. I would highly recommend that anyone stay here.

We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary while we stayed at the Inn. Our host Jane made it truly special She even made us Mimosas, which we shared with some fellow guests on the wonderful front porch. She made us a anniversary toast. I truly appreciated it. Jane is a fabulous cook...no ordinary pancakes or waffles are good enough for her. She made this really yummy apple pancake one day, and a quiche another day. She even has afternoon snacks, besides breakfast. Jane is very accommodating. She made special low carb breakfasts for my husband, for him only. The Inn is very comfortable and cozy. I slept very well there. The rooms are large in this great old house, of which Jane loves to give tours. The rooms are beautifully furnished too. And the large front porch is breezy and relaxing. It is a good place to read, or just rest awhile before you go off for the day. We would definitely go back again.

We loved our 4 day visit with Jane and Skylar(Inn puppy extraordinaire). The Magnolia Suite was perfect for my husband and me, and Mom enjoyed the comfort of the Queen Anne Room. Everything was spic-n-span. The setting, the comfort, the delicious breakfast to start our day...every touch and detail was just perfect, especially Jane's wonderful, welcoming smile! We would definitely visit them again, only would like to be able to stay even longer. Spoiled Florida Guests.

My husband and I enjoyed our visit and plan to return. Our room, the innkeeper and the house exceeded our expectations.

This was the second time we stayed here. It was like visiting a loved "aunt" in a pleasant, lovely home. The food was exceptional - sure beats cereal and a stale pastry!

This bed and breakfast met our expectations and needs, and then exceeded them! The home was lovely; it was a picture from a world gone by. The home is immaculately clean and well cared for. The attention to detail is still prevalent. The original wood in-laid floors have been restored and maintained so they look like they were just laid yesterday. There is a never ending porch with a view like no other. One morning we just sat there, saying nothing, just enjoying the serenity and peace of the location. Our room was lovely; we stayed in the Spa Suite. Chocolates on the table, sheer curtains that made you think of a Civil War age movie, incredibly tall ceilings, a king bed which was very comfortable, a Jacuzzi tub we had to relax in after hiking the near by 80 ft. waterfall, huge windows, even a towel warmer, made our stay that much more memorable. We wished we had more time to just hang out and enjoy the room. And talking about mornings, the breakfasts are to die for! If you stay there more than a few days, I swear you will gain 100 pounds! The Innkeeper would ask us every night what we wanted the next day for breakfast. Everything was served on china place settings with pressed linens. The best part of the whole thing was, without a doubt, the Innkeeper, Ms. Jane Hoggs. She was so welcoming, helpful, and caring. She helped us plan our days, gave us advice about where to visit and eat, provided menus for us to peruse, told us about fun night life things to do, gave us a tour of the entire home, and just sat and chatted with us. And she genuinely cared about us and if we were having a good time. She was even worried about us when we got stuck in a hail storm and tornado in a nearby city! Overall, this bed and breakfast was impeccable. It was clean, it was quiet, it was relaxing, and it was the perfect break that we needed. This is the way a vacation should be!

We had a lovely weekend stay in a beautiful home that has been carefully restored to maintain the old character. Jane, the innkeeper, was wonderfully pleasant to visit and talk with. As well as providing us plenty of private time.

Staying at the Glen Alpine felt like "coming home" and getting a fabulous home cooked breakfast just the way mom used to make! Jane sets the tone for this relaxed and tranquil environment from the moment you arrive, and is the most inviting and friendliest innkeeper we have ever encountered! She keeps this beautiful 1913 home meticulous yet cozy, with all the modern amenities available at newer inns. I can't wait to return to enjoy the grand porch with majestic views, the comfortable queen-sized beds in spacious rooms, while sharing cordial conversation and a glass of local wine.

Our party of 3 had 2 rooms for 2 nights at the Inn over Thanksgiving. It was all that others have already recorded - spotless, very comfortable, beautifully decorated, and in the friendly care of Jane. She was even very nice to our moody teenager daughter! We were very much at ease coming and going from visits with relatives nearby. Jane also very willingly accommodated our breakfast request for more dietetic fare - although we did taste her apple pancake. Yum. We already have plans to return as we are frequent visitors to the area. We have tried other lodging in the area over the years and this is the nicest by far.

My wife and I were looking for a quiet get-away in the foothills of the NC mountains. This Inn was perfect... on a quiet street near the train tracks to hear the train come by a few times a day. The rooms were very comfortable, but the hospitality that Jane provided made the place warm. Wonderful history in this home built in 1913... We will definitely be back!

We had an outstanding first visit to the Inn at Glen Alpine. Jane is a wonderful lady and terrific host, who had some great suggestions for places to go. She makes a fabulous french toast to boot!! We stayed in the Spa Suite and it was outstanding. After a long day on your feet the 2 person jacuzzi felt awesome.The house is beautiful and has so much character and the wrap around front porch is so relaxing.We had a great experience all the way around.

The hospitality was first rate from the comfortable rooms to the delicious breakfast. The Inn was a grand old house that welcomed us with it's spotless rooms and relaxing atmosphere. Jane was and is the perfect hostess. Full of details on where to go and how to get there. She never let us leave without a bottle of water and a snack. We did a bit of hiking. This grand inn is located on a beautiful piece of land in a quiet town that provided a perfect, relaxing place to land after long days of furniture shopping. The room was comfortable and breakfast was exceptional. The hospitality was stellar. The innkeeper, Jane, made the experience priceless.

My wife and I were married on 4/7 and we went to the Inn at Glen Alpine for the first night of our Honeymoon. The pictures on the do NOT do the Inn justice. The gorgeous Manor house will take your breath away. We stayed in the Spa Suite, and the 2 person Jacuzzi tub was wonderful. The owner made us an Egg and Cheese Quiche Ham Strudel for breakfast. I cannot recommend this Inn enough!

My dad and I took my mother back to her hometown for her 80th birthday. We chose to stay at The Inn at Glen Alpine. I've never stayed at a B&B before. I must say this was an incredible first experience. The home was warm and comfortable, and the innkeeper was first rate. I hope I have another opportunity to visit this Inn.
