Room 1 in the Woodward House is great for a short stay! But the Highland Lake Lodge is better.

I am getting ready to stay at Highland Lake Inn for about the 10th time in 8 or 9 years. HLI epitomizes all of the wonderful things that people most enjoy about the mountains, with an added touch of class. I always stay in the small log cabins. I can sleep with the window raised and breathe the wonderful mountain air. The small cabins help me go back in time to many years ago when my grandfather owned a bungalow in the area. There is a lifestyle choice to meet every person's needs. The lodge is so impressive and beautifully decorated. The food is to die for, and one is truly pampered to experience the dining atmosphere while looking out the window at the beautiful laurel. Once I drove up for the Thanksgiving buffet. I rolled up in a blanket and took a nap in the hammock afterwards. Not only can no hotel offer the type of unique experience at HLI, but no other bed and breakfast can come close. I would characterize HLI as a complex. Turn onto the quaint road by the dam and drive up the beautiful winding road through the woods to a place where stress does not exist. Both the flower and vegetable gardens, in a setting near a barn filled with goats, and a mascot peacock, give you a little piece of heaven. When you consider the breakfast that is included with my cabin, the whole experience is a great value. The staff is on the ball. I turned down an offer of a cruise to Hawaii to go back again and spend four nights with my husband and Mom in October when the leaves are turning.

Woodward Fireplace Room
The Woodward House is our most elegant choice for your stay. Each of the 16 spacious guest rooms has private bath and is distinctively decorated with individual character. The living room and lobby areas offer a fireplace, library, sunroom, and full kitchen. The Woodward House has a classic bed and breakfast ambiance with Victorian décor. It is named for Colonel J.C. Woodward who purchased the property in 1919 and founded the Carolina Military and Naval Academy here in the 1920's.
