Carolina Bed & Breakfast
-
The Goldfinch Room of the Carolina Bed & Breakfast invites you to relax in comfort. The fireplace boasts one of the original 1901 mantels and an ample and comfy wing chair sits beside it, beckoning you to put your feet up, read a book or enjoy a DVD from our library. One of our larger and best appointed private bathrooms adjoins the room.
The Cardinal Room at the Carolina Bed & Breakfast. Rich red walls and a plush green Oriental carpet offset a beautiful mahogany four poster Chippendale style queen size bed in this sunlit second floor room
Paying homage to the owners’ years in Asia, the Robin’s Nest has a King size Rosewood Opium bed flanked by two Chinese lacquered bedside tables. A desk situated in the corner is flanked by a comfortable armchair. A small dressing room leads to a private bath with walk-in shower and a pedestal sink.
Originally the library, this first floor guest room features a charming built-in bookcase which serves as a backdrop to the cherry wood Pencil Post queen size bed. An original quilt made by a local artisan adds to the picture and is beautiful in its graceful simplicity. Two comfortable chairs flank a small oak secretary desk to form a separate sitting area for your enjoyment. A three drawer oak dresser and small armoire complete the transformation from library to bedroom. The navy and yellow themed bedroom has a full private bath.
Named for the framed section of the original wall paper over the fireplace, this room harkens back to the past with a four poster mahogany rice bed, oriental carpet and original claw foot tub and shower in the private bath. You will feel like royalty as you mount the steps to your pillow bedecked bed, while the heart-pine floors glow in the light from the original fireplace. The largest of our guest rooms, the Hummingbird is richly furnished with antiques and overlooks our quaint cottage and beautiful gardens in the rear of the house.
Hand-stenciled cream and plum walls echo the colors of the deep pile oriental carpet underfoot in this unpretentious room. The four poster queen bed is flanked by two green shaded Chinese ginger jar lamps and an original artwork, “The Whirling Dervish” graces the wall. The original coal fireplace has been retro-fitted with gas logs which leap into flame at the touch of a button. . The Mockingbird Room is a blend of past and present with the best of both.
Nestled in the garden behind the main house is our charming cottage, the perfect place for a romantic getaway
With its king-size bed, private bath with a two person whirlpool tub and shower, and faux fireplace this room is ideal for a romantic getaway. The small kitchenette has a refrigerator stocked with sodas and bottled water. It includes a microwave and hot plate as well as coffee-making facilities.
This lovely house was built in 1901 by Richard Sharp Smith, supervising architect of the Biltmore. The spacious Arts & Craft style rooms showcase the unique, original art and antiques which the owners have collected in their voyages around the world. Your visit will be enhanced by the small touches which make all the difference: a plate of fresh cookies in your room, nibbles by the fireplace in the evening, and personalized service to help make your stay special.

5 out of 5A great place!
April 29, 2013
My daughter and I stayed at the Carolina Bed and Breakfast on our first trip to Asheville, and we would absolutely stay there again! Our hosts were wonderful - welcoming, friendly, and so informative about the area, with many recommendations for dinner and activities. And the gourmet breakfast was delicious! The accommodations were excellent - so comfortable and nicely decorated - with everything we needed for our stay. And so nice to be able to relax on the porch! A top-notch bed and breakfast!

James and Susan are fantastic. Our children gave us a gift certificate to spent a few nights here and I'm so glad they did. Not only was the Cardinal Room a beautiful and comfortable place to relax, but the entire house was a wonderful place to come home to after a day of touring the area. The food was more than tasty and you can tell these two know what they are doing when it comes to healthy, delicious fare and its presentation. Also, they go above and beyond to help with any information you may need and can answer any question about the area activities you may be interested in. We will definitely be returning and the main reason we will is James and Susan themselves. This place is all you would want a B & B to be.

James and Susan were stellar. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. The food is truly wonderful, you can tell they are foodies. More than anything, though, it is the hosts of the Carolina Bed & Breakfast that impress. They are friendly, have excellent advice on dining and other activities in the area, and go above and beyond when assisting their guests. My husband and I stayed in the Mockingbird suite for our honeymoon and we had a wonderful time. We had car troubles while there, and James drove us out to his mechanic and back while we sorted out the problem. We also stayed at a few other places in the area during the trip (including the Inn at Biltmore), but the Carolina B&B was by far our favorite. James and Susan have created in the Carolina B&B a beautiful, welcoming home rather than simply an inn.

5 out of 5Great location and charming B&B!
August 09, 2012
We happened upon the Carolina B&B when our usual place was booked. It has now become our "go to" destination when we are in Asheville. It was absolutely charming and exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the cottage behind the house and found it to be much more comfortable than any room would have been. The grounds are lovely and we were within walking distance of the downtown area where we enjoyed the Belle Chere Festival. The breakfasts were exquisite, healthy and beautifully presented. We will definitely return!
5 out of 5Great B&B in Asheville, NC
May 31, 2012
James and Susan, owners of Carolina B&B, provid. the ideal B&B experience for their guests. A quiet, well furnished room, an unbeatable breakfast, and helpful and congenial suggestions for finding the many restaurants and activities that make Asheville such a delightful place to visit. Our stay could not have been better!
5 out of 5An Awesome B&B
October 23, 2011
We recently celebrated our 30th anniversary in The Cottage, and had a wonderful time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Carolina Bed & Breakfast. James and Susan Murray are marvelous hosts. Susan is a fabulous cook. Her two-course breakfasts (served between 8:30 and 9:30) are scrumptious, and a great way to start the day. She uses local ingredients whenever possible. Wine (from the Biltmore Winery) and hors d'oeuvres are served in the parlor from 5:30 to 6:30pm, and treats are delivered to each room every evening. Our room in The Cottage was splendid. Everything was spotless. The king bed was so comfortable. It was very nice to have the kitchenette, to prepare light suppers. The bathroom was well-appointed, with a two-person whirlpool tub, thick towels and bathrobes, a hairdryer, and toiletries provided. We recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a special getaway in Asheville, and can't wait to return!
5 out of 5Carolina B&B was the highlight of our weekend!
July 27, 2011
What a gem... If you've always found that where you stay on a trip colors your memories - stay at Carolina B&B in Asheville. We arrived in the afternoon to the aroma of freshly baked biscotti, so good we left with the recipe. Homemade brownies (left with this recipe too) waited for us on a bedside table when we returned to sleep. And we slept so well! The owner told us that guests have actually asked for the make and model of the mattresses. The owners were charming, solicitous about our needs - even acommodated two relatives for breakfast with us. Oh, and what a perfect breakfast - both mornings we were there - fresh, yummy and gourmet. Foodie heaven - we bought one of the two cookbooks they've published. And last but not least, the toiletries were top of the line. I'm going to be purchasing them to use regularly.
