An 1877 Victorian gable-roofed cottage-style home lovingly restored to its original elegance, the Henry Sawyer Inn is centrally located on quiet, residential, gas-lit Columbia Avenue in Cape May's primary historic district.

The inn offers beautiful rooms and suites in a gracious and welcoming environment reminiscent of a bygone era.

Unwind on our spacious and breezy veranda, relax in our comfortable and beckoning parlor, enjoy our crackling fireplace, delight in our extensive Hummel collection, needlework and other art which decorate our home throughout.

The beautifully appointed inn is open year round, offering wonderful summer vacations, romantic weekend getaways, unique decorations at Christmas and pure relaxation anytime.

The Inn is located in the heart of the historic district. From the inn, it is a short walk to the Washington Street Mall, Washington Square stores, major antiques shops, tennis courts, ocean promenade and beach, as well as Cape May's fine restaurants.

    From New York, Pennsylvania, and Northern New Jersey

    Take the Garden State Parkway south to the end. At the end of the parkway, go straight ahead onto Route 109 South . Route 109 will cross 2 bridges and bring you into Cape May. After the second bridge, Route 109 becomes Lafayette Street. Continue on Lafayette Street for about one-half mile to Madison Avenue ( 1st traffic light on Lafayette). Make a left turn onto Madison Avenue and travel 3 blocks to Columbia Avenue (the Cape May water tower will be on your right) . Make a right turn onto Columbia Avenue and travel 2 blocks to Franklin Street. The Henry Sawyer Inn is on the corner of Columbia Avenue and Franklin Street on the left side.


    From the Cape May - Lewes Ferry

    Exit the Ferry terminal and turn right. Follow the signs for Cape May via Route 9 North. Route 9N will intersect with Route 109 South. Turn Right onto Route 109S, follow the directions above.

      Please make reservations only when you are sure of your plans because guests are expected to stay and/or pay for the full number of days that rooms are reserved. In the event you must cancel, shorten your stay, or make a change in your confirmed reservation, your deposit will be refunded less a $60.00 processing fee, if 28 days notice is received. If cancellation occurs from 28 days until 48 hours before check in, your deposit less a $60.00 processing fee will be refunded, if we can rebook your entire reservation. If cancellation occurs less than 48 hours before check in (2 pm), then NO refund is made.

    Dining roomThe Mary Mackissic Sawyer Room, a spacious accommodation on the inn's first floor, has a subtle floral decor in shades of soft greens, peach, and ecru with eyelet accents. This well-appointed room is furnished with walnut Victorian antiques - an imposing queen-sized bed, matching dresser, and period amoire. This accommodation's amenities include cable TV, VCR, hairdryer, clock radio, AC, ceiling fan, small refrigerator, private bath with stall shower, and a private veranda which links to the bedroom via French doors.
    The Anna and Florence Johnson Room is a spacious accommodation on the inn's second floor. The room is furnished with Victorian antiques, the centerpiece of which is an imposing hand-carved queen-sized bed complemented by an antique dresser. This amenity-filled room has a cable TV,VCR, hairdryer, clock radio, AC, ceiling fan, small refrigerator, wicker seating grouping, and private bath with shower and whirlpool tub. This room's relaxing floral decor includes soft greens, rose, and ecru.The Harriet Sawyer Suite is a spacious two-room accommodation on the inn's third floor, the only guest facility on that floor.
