Great location for a Holiday stay in Cape May

Bathroom slightly small but acceptable. Breakfast typical of motel/hotel freebees but nicer surroundings. Location to center city ideal.

We've been going to Captain Mey's for a few years now, in the Spring and Autumn. This last time we were there in mid-October, our room was very cold at night. We tried to close the window, but were unable to budge it one way or the other. We were more or less on our own, which we didn't mind at all, there was really no one on the premises except for early morning. We enjoyed our stay, in spite of the fact that the room was very cold in the evening. The main downstairs thermostat was set very low (63degrees) which was probably why it was so cold. Other than that, we will continue to go to Captain Mey's as we absolutely love the location.

The weather was horrid, but the our stay at Capt Meys was outstanding. We had the honor of meeting the owner Rita and talk about a joy. Thank you for your service to our Great Country

Thank you for a beautiful and incredibly convenient place to stay for the beach and for shopping!

This is the best place in Cape May to stay, once there you don't need a car, all the shops and bicycle shop to rent s bike are within a couple minute walk from the inn, the porch is great, the place is old but well kept. would definitely stay there again next time we go.

Overall, this place is a good value. The location is GREAT!. 1/2 block from the mall, 1 and 1/2 block from the grocery store, and 2 blocks from the beach. Breakfast is OK, mostly bread/bagels and a cereal selection. The coffee maker being available all the time, plus a good selection of juices is a plus. We would recommend Captain Mey's Inn, and will stay again.

nice location with parking a plus. Becoming a bit dated and tired but still has period ambiance.

the facility is well kept. Upon arrival there was no one to greet us and the door was locked. The phone number listed did not respond because the mailbox was full. When we did finally did check in, again no one was on site. When we checked out, again no one present. We just dropped our key in the small basket alongside the front door. Breakfast was just ok. No fruit beyond a couple of bananas. Nothing warm was available beyond what was available to toast.

Loved every inch of this Victorian inn.....plus all the modern necessities of 2015. We will be back next year. Thank you for such a nice place to stay :).

We love to stay there when we are in town. The rooms are clean and the wrap around porch is so relaxing! It's the perfect location close to everything! We love the private parking too. It makes things so convenient. We have stayed there 3 times already and are heading back in October!

This is our second stay at Capt. Mey's, and it was lovely. The rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable. Bed was comfortable and towels, were plentiful and thick. The staff was quiet, but could not have been more helpful! The room prices were comparable or lower than other local B&Bs. The location is so convenient to everything that you really don't have to move your vehicle if you so choose. (Private parking on site as well, another bonus!). This time, breakfast was not up to B&B standards, nothing warm, home made or home baked, and there is no afternoon tea, but this is somewhat offset by a Keurig, yogurts, cold cereal and ice 24/7. Once we adjusted to this, it was ok with us. We also never had the opportunity in our five day stay to meet the innkeeper, as she does not live on the premises. I don't believe anyone but the guests are there overnight. We would very gladly come to stay again. You will not be disappointed in your Cape May visit with a stay at Captain Mey's!

We love staying at Captain Meys Inn because of the location. Its right in the heart of everything! Plus the parking lot is great! We just leave our car and walk every where. We have stayed there several times and always enjoy it. The rooms are always neat and clean and we love the big wrap around porch which is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or people watching or reading . The breakfast is nothing fancy but since we are not big breakfast eaters it works for us. I think all in all this B&B is a good value!

This was our second visit to Captain Mey's B&B and we'll be back again. The rooms are lovely, and the porch offers a relaxing spot. We appreciate the Keurig & availability of tea & coffee throughout the day. The innkeeper is like a "best friend", making us feel at home, and goes above & beyond!

We loved meeting Esther, it was her first day on the job, and she was really sweet and accomodating to our every need or question. We hope to see her when we return for our next visit. There were a few minor inconveniences in the room which Esther took care of immediately-----toilet flowing over in the bathroom, and we couldn't shut the window, it was jammed. However, being home-owners ourselves, these things didn't really bother us, as we know it was early in the season, and most of the places weren't set up like they would be for summer. The home is absolutely gorgeous, tastefully decorated, and we look forward to returning.

The owners were very friendly. The location is so close to Washington st. Mall. The on site parking is a great benefit. The only thing that didn't meet our expectations were the cold breakfast of carbs: bread, english muffins, store bag bagels and cold hard boiled eggs. We were very disappointed about the breakfast because that's one of the joys of staying at a bed & breakfast. A home made, hot breakfast is what we are use to for a breakfast at a B&B. We ended up eating out for breakfast as well and don't think we will choose this location again as a result.

You can't beat the price and location. Our room was clean and had a huge attached bathroom which was clean as well. Love the porch and having access to the Keurig machine whenever we wanted coffee. Rita was very welcoming. Only negative was the fact that we are early birds and thought the breakfast serving time was on the late side. Seems like most of the guests were waiting around for it too and the bagels we had were not worth the wait. Would stay here again.

We really enjoyed our long weekend away at Captain Mey's. The room, as well as the overall inn, was spotless. We enjoyed the casual breakfast that we could take outside on the porch. It's close to shopping, restaurants and the beach. Park your car when you get there and you don't have to use it again until you leave. Love being able to use the facilities after check-out. The outdoor shower and bathroom and shower on the first floor are accessible even after dropping off your key. After comparing prices, this inn is definitely budget-friendly. We'd definitely return.

We have been to Cape May many times, but it was our first stay at Capt Mey's. Self check in was okay, but would have preferred some interaction with someone other than by phone. Breakfast was sufficient. However, we are used to home made type breakfast from our past experiences in other B & B's. We never saw Rita the innkeeper during our stay. The 2 staff members we saw were polite. There again, from past experiences, we had more interactions with the staff of the other B & B's. We probably would stay again. Location and price were great. Our room was fine.

My wife and I stayed in Captain Mey's room with a private door. The porch is very relaxing to watch life go by and the shopping is around the corner, the beach and restaurants all close. Rita is very nice and we did enjoy the informal breakfast as this fit our vacation sked. Will def return.

Our room was clean and tidy but our bathroom was completely separate which we did not expect. In the morning there was no hot water in the shower or sink. Do -it-yourself breakfast was not what we expected with grocery store bagels that were none too fresh. The staff was helpful and pleasant but the owners not on site. All in all, definitely not the B&B experience I have been used to. We won't be back.

My girlfriend and I had a mid-week getaway at Captain Mey's. The house and room were lovely, and the staff were very friendly. The house had a wonderful old feel and history to it, and the room was very clean. We were however disappointed by breakfast. It being a "bed and breakfast," we expected more breakfast food staples, like scrambled eggs, fruit and a meat of some kind. The breakfast consisted of sliced bread, muffins, bagels, hard boiled eggs, and small boxed cereal. Further, the provided milk decanter was empty by the time we arrived, and we were nearly done with everything else before we found someone who could get us more; a wait of at least 15 minutes. We both felt the breakfast offering was disappointing, but possibly the specifics of what would be offered were advertised somewhere and we simply missed it.

This was our first B&B experience and my wife and I were very pleased! This B&B is in a great location and a great value for a peak season. All the staff at Captain Mey's were very hospitable to make our stay a pleasant one. While the breakfast selection was varied, a few more warm meal options would have been nice choice. Nonetheless, I would stay at Captain Mey's in a heartbeat on my next visit.

A lovely Victorian Inn that makes you feel that you have taken a little step back in time, with availability to all modern necessities. A very friendly, clean and relaxing Inn; not to mention easy access to the beach and shopping. Thank you Rita for a wonderful time! We can't wait to return.

We just stayed at Captain Mey's Inn on July 24. The owner Rita was very friendly and welcoming. The inn is so comfortable and spotless. Our room was very comfortable and nicely decorated. Every day it was cleaned to perfection. I loved the freshly baked muffins at the continental breakfast. The breakfast was a little more informal than some B&B's but that suited our vacation style. It was no less elegant. We will definitely return on our next trip to Cape May.

We just stayed at the Captain Meys B&B for the 4th time. We were greeted by the Innkeeper Rita. Our Room (Peter Stuyvesant) was not yet ready but we were early. Rita invited us to use all the facilities and leave our bags there. There is a large bathroom with shower as well as an outside shower for use after the beach. Snacks, juices and hot beverages are available all of the time. We walked for a while then returned to room. It was clean and comfortable as always. This is not a typical B&B so there is not a formal sit down breakfast. In the morning (9:00) there are bagels, fresh baked muffins, coffee and juice everything that makes a great continental breakfast. The dining room is set up with placemats and silverware and is a very comfortable area to chat with other guests. This B&B offers everything at a very affordable price.Hopefully we will get back in August for another enjoyable stay. Thanks to Rita and the wonderful staff. Frank and Donna

Our second visit to Captain Mey's, and just as enjoyable as the first. Lovely rooms, tasty breakfast, friendly staff. Love that you get full use of the downstairs after checkout, allowing a quick shower after going to the beach with their chairs and towels, sit on the porch and people watch, or grab a cup of coffee or tea. You are welcome until you are ready to head home. Great location, near beach and Washington Street Mall. We will be back. Thanks for a lovely holiday! Steve and Debbie

We've been to Cape May many times over the years and this was our first stay at Captain Mey's. It is a beautiful B&B in an outstanding location - 1 block to the Washington Mall shopping area, 2 blocks to the beach - literally in the center of it all. The large porch has enough tables and chairs to accomodate 4 or 5 couples for breakfast, relaxing, or just people watching. The foyer, parlor, and dining room on the first floor are nicely decorated and very inviting. We stayed in the Willem the Silent room on the 2nd floor. It was very comfortable but a bit small, particularly the bathroom and stall shower. Rita was an extremely gracious and helpful host. The breakfast is more than adequate but is a serve yourself continental style, not a sit-down, hot breakfast like some other B&Bs. This was fine as it doesn't tie you to a specific seating time and there was a large variety of offerings. All in all it was a great 3 days in celebration of our anniversary.

A first glance at the large front porch with its deep awnings, colorful, full flower-boxes lining its rail, and white wicker rockers inviting us in, we had high expectations of Captain Meys with such a charming beginning. No waiting for our room, and we were pleased to see the wallpaper dotted with large Victorian roses and the calming tans of the bedroom. A full bath with amenities including hairdryer, frgrant almond shampoo, conditioner and mild and pleasant bath soap, increased our pleasure. The beach, fine restaurants, and great shopping were within a short walking distance. Captain Mey's met all the requirements of a fine Band B. Our bed with many lace-edged pillows was luxurious. We also had a small tv on the bureau and an airconditoner in the window. The room was very comfortable and clean as well as lovely to look at. We had lunch at Freda's which is the restaurant bordering on the Mall. It is small, but the menu is sophisticated but reasonable. There are many restaurants within walking distance and we chose The Merion Inn for dinner. An established icon of Cape May. Warm woods, friendly staff, a piano player (on a Tuesday evening), great Martini, and gourmet menu. Has a gentleman's club atmosphere. After a good night's sleep we joined other guests in the large dining room for a Continental Breakfast. Perhaps this is the only part of our stay which I would rate 4 star not 5. The owner, an extremely pleasant and kind woman, was the chef and breakfast came in steps, with diners not sure whether what was out on the table was all there was or more. (There was more.....a little later, fresh bagels, and then a short time after that, hard-boiled eggs. Congenial owner, very clean, excellent location, beautifully decorated in Victorian style, and a relaxing and lovely front porch. We look forward to another visit to Cape May and Captain Mey's B & B.

This wonderful B & B made a quick one-night getaway into a memorable experience. The owner, Rita, greeted us when we arrived and gave us a thorough tour of the first floor common rooms. She escorted us to our spotless room - The Captain Johan. Shower was a little tight, but everything else was great. They provide 24 hour coffee/tea and water. The beach was only a few blocks away and they even supplied beach towels and chairs. Restaurants and the Washington Street shopping mall were only a block away. Rita was a gracious hostess and always asked if everything was OK with our stay. We will definitely go again.

This B&B is a family run business. Frankly, for most of our stay we only saw the two lovely young daughters who ran the B&B with care and accountability. The week began with really humid weather but then it broke -- enough for us to simply sit out on the veranda, sip tea from lovely Victorian cups and enjoy the wafting breezes coming through these gorgeous, opulent, plants and flowers. We didn't want to move from that corner spot! When we come again, we will want to make sure to reserve another room that has its own bathroom. The Queen Beatrix was adorable but the bathroom was outside of the room. We had to enter the foyer a couple steps to another separate bathroom. Not terrible - but not great either.

We've stayed in Cape May many times and at Captain Mey's several times. It is a very good choice. The rooms are very nice. The staff is great. There is on-site parking which can be very important during the busy season. Most of all, they are extremely accommodating. It is rare that a place would allow you to use their premises after check-out. This place does. It stands as a testament to their graciousness, which is very important at a Bed and Breakfast. You also cannot beat the location. It is right at the heart of town. Their prices are also reasonable. I would highly recommend this and plan to stay here whenever I come to Cape May.

Spent a couple nights last weekend at Capt Mey's. The place was clean, charming, and a good value. Rita was more than welcoming and it felt very much like spending a weekend at a family shore house. Very close to beach, the nicest porch on the block, and just a minute away from the main shopping square. Also, I found it very helpful that bath towels, blow dryers, beach towels, and (nice!) beach chairs are all provided. We will be returning to this B&B and I will happily recommend it to friends.

Only stayed 1 night but the staff were just wonderful. We had a private but unconnected bathroom with a standing shower. Everything you would expect from aa B&B. The price was a litle less than surrounding B&B's which was great. All in all the value was very good as was the service. Sitting on the porch in the evening with a couple cocktails. Nice. If I had to find something negative I'd have to dig and say the narrow drive way. See it was all good.
