Surrounded by established subtropical gardens, all rooms have panoramic views over the harbour and bush clad hills behind and open onto decks lawn and beach. Enjoy wonderful fresh New Zealand cuisine and fine wine while watching glorious sunsets.

    Pawhaoa Bay Lodge, Northland Bliss!

    Great Location, Great hospitality, Great food!  We are a family from Auckland and have been visiting the lodge for the last seven years. We travel up to "Bill and Claire's" for recharging the battery times as a couple, and have enjoyed memorable time there with our children. Claire and Bill provide consistently irresistible hospitality.  On any one culinary day we may start by breakfasting out in the lodge's courtyard garden,  with Claire's special muesli with yoghurt and fruit, to something cooked such as lemon soufflé pancakes or herbed scrambled eggs, and toast with homemade preserves and freshly ground and brewed coffee.  After a simply exhausting day of reading our books, or watching one of the hundreds of DVD's, or walking on one of the tracks around the lodge where we might spot or hear one of the many native birds; or after doing some genuinely strenuous cycling (best hill training for the Taupo marathon all ye fellow cyclists!), or strolling and swimming at neighbouring Bland Bay or maybe a car excursion to Russell township; after all these things to choose from and do, after all this......we are ready for evening drinks.  Now, should we have them down by the peaceful waters edge in front of the lodge or by the huge roaring fire inside?  Dinner is a treat at the lodge. One feels very well looked after and very well dined. Excellent produce is given the best treatment. After three courses, it's time to wind down the day even further. Maybe a spa bath, maybe a DVD, or maybe simply....sleep! This is after all, the place we come back to. Nicola and Hils Hunt

    Pawhaoa Bay Lodge, Northland Bliss!

      DRIVING FROM AUCKLAND (Approx. 3.5 Hours Drive) To get to Pawhaoa Bay Lodge is a simple process. Simply head North from Auckland (State Highway 1) to Whangarei (a 2.5 hour drive). At Whangarei carry on North on State Highway 1 for approximately 15minutes (20kms) until you reach the Whakapara BP garage on your left. This is your last chance to fill up with gas.100 metres past this Garage turn right at the sign post "Oakura - Old Russell Road" Once you have turned off onto this road follow the sign posts to Bland Bay. From the State Highway 1 turn off, Bland Bay is 50kms (about 1hrs drive) Don't miss the last turn off to Bland Bay which is on the right just past the tiny settlement of Ngaiatonga, distinguished by having a bright lilac/purple school. The last turn off is signposted on the left but the turn is to the right. From here follow the road into and through Bland Bay. Continue on up and over a small hill. Pawhaoa Bay Lodge is on the right as you reach the bottom of the hill and is well sign posted. DRIVING FROM KERIKERI follow the signs to Paihia From Paihia take the car ferry from Opua across to Russell. They run all day every 10 minutes. Exit the ferry and after 2 kms look out for the signs to Rawhiti and Whangarei via Old Russell Rd. Turn right and follow this road through to a T junction (about 20minutes) all tarsealed. At the T junction you will see a big sign for Pawhaoa , turn right and follow the coast road about 9kms look out for a sign on your right with the turn to your left signed Bland Bay (we have a sign here also ) This is the last turn off to Bland Bay. Keep on driving right through the small seaside settlement of Bland Bay up and over a small hill (the last km is metal /gravel road) and we are at the bottom on the other side on the right and we are well sign posted. From the last turn off at Ngaiotonga, we are 9.5kms(10minutes drive).

    • There are several flights daily from Auckland to Whangarei or Kerikeri. - book directly on line .airnewzealand.co.nz From both Whangarei or Kerikeri it is approximately 1.5 hrs drive to Pawhaoa Bay Lodge. Hire cars are available from both airports. Flight time from Auckland to Whangarei is approximately 30minutes and to Kerikeri approximately 40minutes. Driving from Whangarei airport; Follow signs into Whangarei and then follow signs main Road North. Once on State Highway 1 going North follow directions as when driving from Auckland.
