    Bay of Islands Lodge sits above one of the area's few remaining un-milled coastal rainforests. Surrounded by a native bush reserve, every major room enjoys uninterrupted views across Veronica Channel to the Russell peninsula and as far as Black Rocks, Moturoa Island and beyond. Design and Style The two-level cedar clad lodge was built in 2004. The contemporary design is enriched by the extensive use of native timbers and a soft natural earthy colour scheme throughout which blends harmoniously with its surrounding environment. Special Features The upper-floor of the lodge features an expansive open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining areas, floor-to-ceiling windows and large decks to showcase the captivating views-of nothing but native bush, sea, and sky. To provide a luxurious and relaxing environment from which to enjoy those therapeutic tranquil views, the lodge also features two central wood-burning fireplaces, rich dark-brown leather sofas, oriental rugs, traditional Maori weavings and artefacts. Four spacious guest bedrooms and an "infinity" plunge pool and surrounding deck are located on the lower floor.

      The Bay of Islands is a 3 hour scenic drive north of Auckland, via State Highway 1 through Warkworth, Wellsford and Whangarei. At the Kawakawa turn-off, leave Highway 1 and drive straight on to Paihia and Bay of Islands. 12km on will bring you to Opua Hill. There the road forks: turn left towards Paihia and 200m from the fork you will see the Bay of Islands Lodge sign on the right-hand-side; to the right from the fork will take you to the car ferry across to Russell. If you are arriving from Kerikeri, make your way through Paihia, from there it is 4.5km to Opua. As you reach the top of Opua Hill you will see the Bay of Islands Lodge sign on the left (just after the Broadview Road turn off). For guests who prefer to fly, there is an airport at Whangarei (1 hour south of Opua) and Kerikeri (30 minutes north of Opua). Both have services to and from Auckland by Air New Zealand. Transfers can be arranged at a nominal charge.
