Rufus Tanner House Bed and Breakfast

We had a two night stay that was a great value and very convenient for visiting Corning and the Soaring Museum. Anyone staying at the Rufus Tanner House B&B can expect spacious comfortable rooms and an exceptional breakfast. Guest should not be surprised that noise from other guests does travel to other rooms in the house. This is typical in just about any 1860's converted farm house. We will definetly be back.

I have stayed at the Rufus Tanner House many times, and can now say that I have stayed in every room they have available! My most recent visit found me in the Empire Room, a lovely 2nd floor corner room with a gas powered fireplace. It was an unseasonably cold, damp weekend and I was glad for it because my room warmed me, heart and soul!

Donna and Rick make you feel right at home. It is a cozy get away. I'll be back!

This is the first time we've stayed at Rufus Tanner; one of the best B&B's we've visited! It's well run and all the details are taken care of, and then some. Very conveniently located between Elmira (15 minutes) and Corning (20 minutes). Donna and Rick take care of all the details and make sure their guests have what they need. Lots of places to sit and read or visit. Friendly pets ready to keep you company if you wish! Breakfast is just right; everything is fresh and portions are perfect.

Really an excellent experience. Food was excellent and rooms were comfortable. The innkeepers know the area well and were always available without being obtrusive. Highly recommend.

The innkeepers are warm and hospitable and the room suited us perfectly. The breakfast was superb and made to suit my vegetarian needs.

The host were very welcoming. They shared their knowledge of the area graciously. They made our stay very pleasant by paying attention to the little details that make the difference between a good Bed & Breakfast and a great one. The house itself is very comfortable and charming. All in all, a great experience.

We had a great stay at the Rufus Tanner House. Our host, Donna, was delightful and accommodating. The house itself is a farmhouse that has been expanded over time by the families that have owned it. We stayed in the smallest room, but were very comfortable. It was in the oldest section of the house, with floorboards held down by square-head nails. Donna's breakfast was ample and superb. The other guests were repeat visitors who return every year at this time, but who welcomed us into the group. A very pleasant and relaxing stay. Highly reommend.

This bed n breakfast only consists of four rooms. So it is very cozy. However, if you want privacy then you need to stay at a bigger bed n breakfast. The inn keepers are very sweet and seem to always be around as soon as you leave your room. Breakfast could have been better. I wish we had choices instead of just you get what is cooked that day. The location is very quiet, but is at least a half hour away from everything. Our room was spectacular!

We stayed at Rufus Tanner House for our anniversary and were NOT disappointed. Donna and Rick werevery prepared and helpful. We enjoyed the blends of regional foods and the room was very nicely decorated and maintained. We would go back there again for sure.

Very clean & had an ensuite with room. No sharing of bathrooms. Great ambience in the home.

My wife Jan and I enjoyed our first visit to a B&B. If they are all like the Rufus Tanner House B&B, we will not be staying in any motels/hotels in the future. Donna and Rick are excellent hosts and we really enjoyed our stay.

We found the Rufus Tanner House on the internet and decided to take a chance on the B&B. It exceeded our expectations. The gardens which are lovingly cared for created a peaceful atmosphere for playing cribbage and talking with my husband after a day of visiting wineries. Donna and Rick's attention to detail made us feel welcomed as if we were friends visiting their home. I have already recommended the B&B to friends who will be visiting the area this fall. We will definitely plan a return visit.

My mother and I very much enjoyed our stay at the Rufus Tanner House. The property was beautiful and breakfast was amazing. My one complaint would be that the hot tub was only available until 9pm. Being from NYC and quite the night owl, by the time we had finished with dinner we didn't have time to make it back in time to use the hot tub.

We stay here whenever we can. Donna and Rick are special people and we feel welcome and at home on all our visits.

Best pillows anywhere! Better price than Hotel we stayed at. Put TV in room upon request. Plenty of brochures & maps.

This was our first B&B stay and we were not disappointed. The house is comfortable & clean and the hosts make you feel at home. Breakfast was fantastic! There are many different things to do within 30mins. drive. Our stay was relaxing and enjoyable!

We arrived at the Rufus Tanner B&B an hour after a torrential storm with gale-force winds had blown through the valley. All power was out in the surrounding area, but the owners had just turned on their generator and even offered us fresh-squeezed lemonade and told us the history of the house (built in the 1860s). They were unfailingly gracious, despite the storm, and we slept well and woke to beautiful breakfast waiting downstairs. We would definitely return again.

My wife and I only stayed for one night but it was very nice and relaxing, we wish we could have stayed longer. The breakfast in the morning was very good.

I stayed at the Rufus Tanner on a long road trip, as it offers a better value than the big chain hotels right by the highway. It also offers a better experience. How nice to walk in a house to be greeted by someone one-on-one and to tuck in to the sounds of the crickets rather than trucks on the highway or a loud TV in the next room. Donna and Rick are nice and unobtrusive, rooms are comfortable and clean, and the house is quiet.

Our weekend at the Rufus Tanner House Bed and Breakfast was perfect in every way! The Sleigh Room was wonderful and we loved the bathroom. The handmade soaps were a very nice touch as were the different colored towels every day. We enjoyed the innkeepers joining us for coffee after breakfast too. We want to go back this weekend and every weekend!

I have stayed at the Rufus Tanner several times over the last few years and have always enjoyed my stay. Innkeepers Donna and Rick go out of their way to accommodate you, but I especially love breakfast which is always unique and delicious.

Donna and Rick are very gracious hosts. The room was absolutely lovely and I don't know how they keep the entire place so clean and dust-free! Their suggestion for dinner was easy to find and served terrific food. Breakfast was marvelous--I was fueled for my walking tour of the city of Elmira and Elmira College. Donna also shared information about the history of the area which was interesting to me as a history teacher and gave me ideas about how to spend my time in Elmira while waiting for my prospective college student to finish his visit. I will definitely be returning to the Rufus Tanner House.

We had a wonderful stay in the Sleigh Room. We could have spent our stay in the bathroom alone. Donna and Rick were very nice and accommodating. The only problem was our stay was too short.

A great place to stay! Donna and Rick were perfect hosts and very accommodating, even offered to serve breakfast to us early so we could get on the road sooner. Their dog Chloe was the perfect B&B pet, too.

Had a great time, and the hospitality was wonderful from both our hosts. Such a charming couple, and loved Chloe and the kitties that made our stay feel like home. The location is a bit out there, but the owners make sure you know where to go and how to get there. Very peaceful. And breakfast was to die for!

We stayed here for two nights and were overwhelmed by the hospitality of Donna and Rick. The room was immaculate, and the amenities were great. The breakfast each morning was amazing. It was different each day, and just delicious. We will most likely consider staying here again.

This place is fabulous!! Exceeded my wildest dreams! Seemless stay. Very clean! Rick and Donna are amazing folks! They made us feel right at home. Chloe, their pup, was so very friendly. The food was wonderful and the breakfast setting was different and unique each morning. I just can't say enough about this place. I teared when I arrived and left. You never know what to expect when booking online. But, I must say, this one was the best booking we've ever experienced! Just fabulous! I highly recommend it to everyone!!

If you're looking for a inviting, relaxing, pampered experience, Rufus Tanner House is for you! My husband and I were in New York for a color tour and stayed at Rufus Tanner for 3 nights. It exceeded our expectations! The house is very warm and inviting. Donna serves an amazing breakfast each morning and each of our three mornings were different. Rick and Donna are very gracious and make you feel right at home. We looked forward to coming back at the end of a day of sight-seeing and just relaxing by the fire with complementary snacks and beverages. I highly recommend this place!

I've stayed at the Rufus Tanner House many times. This was my first time in the Sleigh Room. At the time of my reservation, it was the only option left. What an amazing choice! I loved it as a single, but it is truly designed for a couple to share, whether on their honeymoon, or a weekend retreat.

Donna and Rick were wonderfully cordial hosts. They made our stay comfortable without being intrusive or overwhelming. I hope to stay there again on my next trip to the area.

What a wonderful B&B. My husband and I spent a delightful overnight here and wish we could have stayed longer. We had driven down from Rochester, NY for an outdoor concert and luckly picked this place. Our room was beautiful, bed was VERY comfortable and the bathroom w/the walk-in double shower and jacuzzi bathtub was to die for. Big fluffy robes, candles around the tub and extra throws to snuggle in after your bath. Breakfast was very good and Donna and Rick the Innkeepers were very helpful w/directions and points of interest. We are already planning a return trip and have told several of our friends about this place. Please check it out for yourselves, you'll be very happy you did.

My husband and I had been driving for hours, were exhausted and just wanted a place to rest before we had to head out again for a hockey game in the First Arena in Elmiria, NY that evening. Although the B&B looked nice on the website when I booked it, nothing could prepare us for the inviting atmosphere we encountered when we arrived there. If you are looking for the "perfect" B&B in the Finger Lake region of New York, where you will feel welcomed as soon as you arrive, feel at home during your stay, enjoy excellent food and get good value for your money, look no further! A bonus are their pets, Chloe the dog and Dusty the cat. Chloe is a star in her own right; once you meet her, you will understand. Very clean, calm & quiet. Donn & Rick were very gracious, breakfast was unique each day. Plenty of reading, games and relaxation.

We were very pleased with our stay. Clean, cozy, friendly and exceptional breakfasts! Many little touches, chocolates, scented soaps,aromatherapy, gas fireplace in room...things that make all the difference! It was very close to many places we wanted to visit. Donna and Rick were very accomodating and we would gladly return to their lovely Inn.

The Rufus House was the second half of our Honeymoon and what an improvement over the BnB that made up our first half. From the moment my new bride and I stepped inside, we were greeted with such warmth and welcoming. The inn keeper, Donna, was such a gracious host words can not describe. It did not take long for us to have the feeling of “home.” This a home (a BnB) that we will enjoy coming back to again and again. Perhaps a 2nd honeymoon. And if the warmth of the fireplace and the general overall atmosphere of The Rufus House was not enough to bring one back… the breakfast are! Oh my! Donna is fantastic cook! With what seemed to be complete effortlessness on her part, day after day, she presented the most scrumptious meals one could imagine. Each day was completely different from the day before and equally as good. Pam and I can not write enough to do justice, so our suggestion is simple to book your reservations now.
