The Herb Cottage Bed and Breakfast

I thoroughly enjoyed the clean quiet comfort of The Herb Cottage. The location is ideal and the chiminea in the evening brought back old times.

Well, I do like to go on about things I like, and since I loved The Herb Cottage, it may go on a bit longer! Alright, I'll try to make it short and very sweet... Carolsue, the owner and innkeeper, make this beautiful bed and breakfast even more wonderful with the sweetness she possesses and the love she puts into everything she does. The food was yummy, organic, and filling. Loved her special, free-trade coffee, which is roasted and ground when she orders it, so it is very fresh. Soooo gooood... The grounds are lovely! If my Husband didn't have to see everything, I would have just relaxed in the backyard with a book. Next time. And the fireflies! This California girl can't get enough of those! I am sure Carolsue hired them just for me. The house is beyond charming, and yes, as everyone else has said, it is very tidy. We stayed in the Sage room, and it is airy, relaxing, and beyond spacious. What I enjoyed most about The Herb Cottage, and Carolsue was the fact that I felt like I was visiting family, only this is family that you WANT to visit, and one that makes you feel special, and attends to all your needs, never bothers you, is there when you need them, and is always kind. Some of her first words to us were "Make my home your home", and we did. Carolsue told us great places to eat, magical waterfalls to see that not everyone knows about, and made us yummy popcorn every night! Oh, and save some room in your suitcase, as she makes the most lovely, artisan, aromatherapy soaps which make her home smell like a little piece of heaven, and that also haunt me in the most pleasant way whenever I smell, and use them, now that I am home. I'll be ordering more of those! I miss The Herb Cottage, and Carolsue, and the beauty of Upstate New York. Who knew such a place existed? Go see for yourself, and have a joyful, relaxing time...

I never wanted to stay at a Bed & Breakfast, always wanted to go to the big Hotels thinking I was in a relaxed state, but since I have had my first experience at a Bed & breakfast at the Herb Cottage I will alway try to stay at one. When I drove up to the Home I was really surprised at how sharp the home looked and clean I could eat off the floors ( only at my house would I do that) the decorating was very stylish and the owner was so easy to talk to and she made every attempt to make my stay private and happy all at once. The French toast at breakfest was great!!!! organic Juice, organic coffee,ect... the food could not have been better. I stayed April 22,23,24,2011 and I never felt so comfortable and relaxed. I never thought I would feel the way I did after leaving. " I was relaxed " something I never got from the big hotel. I recomend this B&B a must to travel to for your vacation. Thank You Herb Cottage for a new and wonderful experience.

The Herb Cottage was our first experience with a B&B and I can't imagine anything better! The home is just that, a home. Everything is perfectly clean and comfortable. Carolsue is truly one of the most friendly, funny, kind, and eccentric people we have ever met. The food is unbelieveable, especially the popcorn!! We can't wait until we can return for more fun, food, and comfort!

My husband and I decided to drive up to the Finger Lakes area for a romantic getaway to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We found this B & B online, and my husband called to make a reservation. Just from the brief conversation he had with the super-friendly owner, Carolsue, we knew we were in for a real treat! :) We arrived to a beautiful, immaculate house, where we were warmly greeted by Carolsue and the wonderful aroma of herbs from her gift shop. We stayed in the Sage Room, with a king-sized bed, which was so comfortable and cozy. The bathroom is in the hallway, but was never an issue. Carolsue pays great attention to keeping her house spotless and bleaches the bathroom every day, so you never feel strange about sharing a bathroom with other guests. There is a clawfoot bath tub, perfect for a relaxing bubble bath! ;) The medicine cabinet was filled with nice little amenities too, in case you forgot anything. I cannot say enough good things about Carolsue- she is one of the most charming, fascinating people I have ever met! :) She is incredibly warm and sweet, and just makes the best breakfasts ever! They are all organic and vegetarian, healthy and hearty! She also makes REALLY good organic popcorn for a snack at night! We had such a great stay here, and this is coming from someone who has traveled extensively. We were actually having so much fun, that by the 2nd day, we had decided to stay an extra night! ;) During our visit, we ate at some great restaurants which Carolsue recommended- The Rooster Fish Brewery & Pub in Watkins Glen (5 minutes away), the Stone Cat Cafe, and Moosewood in Ithaca (about 1/2 hour drive- VERY fun town!) Also, we drove out to Hammondsport and went to Bully Hill Vineyards- a "no frills" winery, which was SO much fun! We had such an amazing time on this trip and absolutely cannot wait to come back to this B & B- it really was like a home away from home, and I know Carolsue will be a life-long friend.

This place is a relaxing, peaceful, enlightening experience, not simply a b&b.

The Herb Cottage B&B is ideally located for anyone going to Finger Lakes to taste wine because most of the best wineries are on either side of Seneca Lake. It's also a great place to stay if you're going to the Watkins Glen raceway. Carolsue is the most caring and generous B&B hostess I've met. You feel more like you're spending the weekend at a friend's house and meet other interesting guests over the fabulous breakfasts. It's a "European" style B&B in that you share one bathroom with up to 3 other guest rooms so you do need to be comfortable with that. I'll be back.

When my husband and I were looking around for a hotel close to a wedding we were attending, we had no idea we would accidentally stumble upon such a treasure! From the moment we stepped inside the house, we were greated like we were part of the family- Carol Sue certainly made us feel right at home, from running the breakfast menu past us to make sure it sounded delicious to turning on the AC to overcome the overwhelming heat. Even though we were busy and didn't get to spend as much time relaxing at the B&B as we would have liked, we did get to spend some time chatting and swapping recipes with Carol Sue over our delicious breakfast. The rooms were so quaint, and we loved browsing through the herbs and wreaths in the gift shop. We would definately recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the Seneca Lake region as it is very close to all of the attractions, and Carol will even give you the insider scoop (which was greatly appreciated by two out-of-towners who needed to cram as much sight-seeing and wine tasting into one short day as we could). Everything at The Herb Cottage was wonderful- great food, lovely porch and garden area out back, and good company- and we can't wait to go back and take our family with us to spend more time in this beautiful B&B in this beautiful region!

The first time we visited Watkins Glen we drove past this beautiful victorian house. We were delighted and surprised to see it was a bed and breakfast. Unannounced, we approached the door and asked for a room. We were greeted by a lovely exuberant innkeeper who not only gave us a tour of the home, but fixed us a late supper. My husband and I have since been back to stay almost once a year. We are looking forward to warmer weather so that we may visit again soon. The Herb Cottage is the epitome of a bed and breakfast from its' cozy guest rooms, lazy trees, and wonderful gift shop. We are lucky to have driven past it that day, as we now consider it our home away from home.

My wife and I stayed at the Herb Cottage and we just loved it. This place far exceeded any of our expectations. The house was extremely beautiful and exceptionally clean. Carolsue is the perfect host and the brown bag lunch, she prepared, was the perfect accent for our afternoon adventure. We are surely going to return to Montour Falls and stay at The Herb Cottage again very soon.

My daughter and I were delighted with our stay at The Herb Cottage. The Innkeeper is much more than accommodating, and we have actually become e-mail pals. She fixes a mean breakfast and even packed us a brown bag lunch for one of our days out and about. The Herb Cottage is a relaxing place to stay and so nicely appointed, right in the heart of waterfall country; it's conveniently located and easy to find. You will be glad you found this gem in the Finger Lakes of New York.

My husband and I visited the Herb Cottage on a recommendation from a friend. The inn was beautiful, and was the innkeeper. We felt at home the moment we arrived! She was very gracious, and the house smelled of dried flowers and homemade soaps. The location of the inn was also a true delight with hidden waterfalls right down the street! Overall, from the rooms to the mouthwatering food that was presented to us, we would HIGHLY recommend this destination to anyone looking for some time to relax, a home away from home during a business trip, or a romantic lovers getaway. A+! We can't wait to stay again!

Being from North Carolina, my choice of vacationing at the beautiful and immaculate Herb Cottage was a one-of-a-kind experience. With Carolsue's cooking and entertaining, she created such a cozy atmosphere that it was hard to checkout. Having studied cooking in Europe, she created delicious and healthy meals. You'll see her talents throughout her gift shop. We hiked up the breath-taking Havana Glen Falls and returned home to a cozy, backyard fireside chat with a nice glass of wine. The countryside has beautiful forests, hills, valleys, lakes and the ever present purring local waterfalls. Most embracing of all is the warm personality of the hostess. We were "spoiled." After visiting with Carolsue you will leave relaxed and knowing that you are leaving a friend!

A wonderful place to stay!!!! The food was outstanding!!!! Must try the organic Blueberry Pancakes, my favorite!!! Carol Sue was so kind, gracious, and accomadating to any of our needs. The rooms are decorated so beautifully and beds so comfortable. What a peaceful setting and relaxing weekend. The B&B is spotless and has everything you would need. Highly recommend a visit.

I visited this charming Inn shortly after it opened , hoping for nothing more than a retreat from the everyday pressures of life. Once there, I discovered it was much more than just a retreat. From the moment I walked in the front door, which gave a bang as I closed (just like my grandmother's!) and inhaled all of the wonderful herbs floating through the Inn, I knew leaving was going tobe a problem! The hospitallity of the Innkeeper and her knowledge of health and eating healthy made me anxious for breakfast athe following morning!and have gone back at least once a year since then. I

The Herb Cottage is just beautiful! An amazing place to stay with more charm then you can imagine. Carolsue made our stay so comfortable and relaxing, it was the long weekend getaway that we truly needed. Her cleanliness and attention to small details were certainly refreshing. We appreciated her making us feel right at home. Looking forward to our return trip the Herb Cottage in June!

We stayed this past weekend and were DELIGHTED with our experience from the minute we arrived with a lovely glass of local wine waiting for us to her witty and warm stories about the local area to the incredible breakfasts to the organic lunch for the drive out of town. You can tell Carolsue puts her heart into making each weekend a cozy, relaxing, fun and unique B&B experience. You really need to stay here!!!!!!!

Very easy to find location, very quiet, clean and well maintained. A warm household and one of the friendliess people you will ever meet. Very knowledgable about the area for things to do, places to eat and shopping. You will feel right at home within minutes and the cooking is outstanding!! Request the omelettes and hash browns and you will not be disappointed.

I stayed three nights here and can't say enough about it. Carolsue commented while picking a piece of lint off the floor saying "Sorry, I'm a little anal". That gives you an idea of how clean it is. As a non-vegetarian, I didn't miss meat at all with her vegetarian meals. Her victorian decor and garden scents from all her herbs were heavenly. Can't say a negative thing about it and I can say I came away with Carolsue as a friend!

My husband and I stayed in the beautiful Sage Room. It was such a lovely experience, everything was personalized. We enjoyed wine on the porch, slept like babies, then woke up to a delicious, organic breakfast. Carolsue was a fantastic hostess. I would definitely recommend the Herb Cottage!

My husband and I own a B&B and visited the Herb Cottage for some R&R. What a charming home that smells like a garden and is decorated so tastefully. We had a very relaxing stay and were treated like family. The breakfasts were not only delicious but healthy! Carolsue was a delight! We shall return! Patty and Randy

Stayed at the Herb Cottage twice now - Service is Excellent, Very Friendly... Food was tasty, and plenty of it - Even packed a lunch with the left-overs! Received tips on local "out of the way" waterfalls and sites. Leave shoes outside!

Carolsue is so gracious and kind. She made us feel welcome as soon as we walked in off of the quaint porch! The food was wonderful!! The rooms were clean, spacious, and decorated with such charm! I will always stay here when I visit Upstate new York! She was so helpful and accomdating. Thank you for making our vacation perfect!

My wife and I have been staying at the Herb Cottage for a few years now. Our usual stop for wine weekends and relaxation. Carolsue has become a dear friend to us and we consider her a part of our family. In fact, we stayed there the night I asked my wife to marry me and the next morning at breakfast she made us feel so special. And to top it off, we held our post wedding evening wine party in her beautiful lawn and had the best time with our friends and family. For a quiet get-a-way with loads of charm, you won't find a better place with a nicer person to accomidate.

You will love this place! The farmhouse is sparkling clean, Carolsue's breakfasts are both healthy and hearty, and she stands ready to quietly disappear or join you for an interesting conversation. Just don't play Scrabble with her. She's ruthless.

Carolsue definitely has a wonderful talent for creating beautiful dried flower arrangements and an equally wonderful talent for running a bed and breakfast. The accommodations were charming and Carolsue couldn't have treated us any better. Her special touches like her handmade soaps in the bathroom and the big organic breakfast made our stay all the more enjoyable. It was just what we were looking for and more!
