Butterscotch House

My husband Tom and I stayed at the B&B recently. My German Shepherd THOR needed surgery which was performed in Lowville, NY. Not knowing where to stay, the Butterscotch House was referenced on the Countryside Veterinarian Clinic's site. After leaving our home at 3:00 a.m. and arriving in Lowville, NY approxiately 4 hours later, we arrived at the Butterscotch House to be greeted by Carmen. He helped us with our bags and made us feel at home so quickly. Carmen's homemade morning breakfasts were delicious. Our morning conversations were great too. We stood in the Adirondack Suite which was great also. Check out the photos on the site. Tom and I certainly enjoyed our stay while we were there. We would certainly go back if we ever had the occasion to do so & highly recommend the Butterscotch House to all!

The Butterscotch House is just what you picture a quaint B&B to look like. Service and food was excellent.

My husband and I got into Lowville at midnight, and Carmen greeted us at the door with a smile and helped us with our bags. We stayed in the Adirondack suite, which is more like a one-bedroom apartment than a suite. We had a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. The suite was clean, nicely decorated, and had every comfort you could ever want-- a/c, TV, books, wifi, even a wii! Breakfasts were fantastic, and we also had the option of using the outdoor hot-tub. My husband and I had a great time, especially because of Carmen and Jim's superb hospitality. Thank you so much!

My sister and I were doing a bike trip through New York and stayed here one of the nights. It was absolutely delightful. The rooms were clean the meals were delicious and the owner was very helpful throughout our stay. I highly recommend this B&B to anyone passing through the area.

My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely stay at the Butterscotch House. The boys in our family opted for a rugged camping weekend, and we were so pleased to find this beautiful gem right in the town of Lowville, just minutes from where they were camping! Cleanliness is quite important to us, and we could immediately see how impeccably clean the rooms were. The breakfasts were delicious and the hosts very warm and welcoming. We are definitely booking again!

Beautifully furnished Victorian B&B. The attention to details in furnishing the guest rooms is astounding. The hosts, Jim & Carmen, treat you like royalty -- yet you feel like you've known them forever. The breakfasts are wonderful.

Our stay was perfect. Everything was beautiful, clean, friendly. They even had a piano to play. Beautiful grounds. Carm & Jim were super friendly. The food was delicious!

Whenever my husband and I plan to visit the area, we always book a room at the Butterscotch House. Every room we've stayed in is clean, lovely, and packed with amenities. Breakfast is delicious-- we've enjoyed everything from fresh blueberry pancakes to spiced broiled grapefruit. And you just can't beat staying in a historic building in a historic town with such kind and attentive hosts. We will be back!

Our hosts made our time at the Butterscotch house memorable. Our room was comfortable and very clean. They snuck in home made cookies while we were unpacking our car. How thoughtful!! We would definitely stay there again. The grounds were peaceful and the animals Cocoa and Shelby were a nice reminder of home. Great place to stay

My husband and I were fortunate enough to be able to stay at the Butterscotch Inn during the Memorial Day weekend. The home is beautiful. The hosts are gracious. We couldn't have asked for more.

Rooms clean, comfortable and quiet. Great night's sleep. Breakfast was fabulous both mornings. Carmen our host made you feel at home. We would go out of our way to stay there.

Everything was absolutely perfect , my wife enjoyed the history. breakfast was different each day & delicious owners were very accommodating.

I was most impressed by how much consideration for the weary traveler was met, both in the pre-planned layout of the suite -- plenty of counter & table space, drapes that actually close fully & block sun for an afternoon nap, and an entire wall of intriguing books! Also the more spontaneous needs met, on-site parking, great breakfast, attentive & helpful conversation.

Carmen Sweet is such a wonderful and caring host who saw to everyone's special needs - would you believe he happily aided a mother of the bride in making the wedding cake on the premises?!?! The room we booked (Lewis County) was a delight. Breakfast was always different and scrumptious. It was like being at home - only better. Am going back for the Kraft Cream Cheese Festival in Lowville 9/18/2010 (within walking distance of the B&B no less)! Book it here and you won't be disappointed.

This bed and breakfast is our favorite destination in Northern New York. The hospitality and comfort are outstanding and Jim and Carmen are wonderful hosts. The Butterscotch is very comfortable, and the breakfasts are gourmet quality. This is is also a very family/child friendly Bed and Breakfast, and the Adirondak Suite suited our four person family perfectly. Our first visit to the Butterscotch House won't be our last. Carmen and Jim are extremely accomodating and have thought of all the little details which mean so much. Our room even had a small refrigerator tucked away in the closet! Hospitality at its finest. Breakfast was exceptional and delicious. Thank you for making our stay so memorable.

this was my second stay at Butterscotch House and was as great as the first one. Walking into the air-conditioned Lewis County Suite was heaven after a long drive from NH. My family lives in the area, but the B&B provides the comfort and stress free atmosphere that I need when I come to NY.

We went to the Adirondacks for a day to try snowshoeing. We found Butterscotch house on a Google search. It's a beautiful Victorian home with lovely furnishings. Carmen made calls to see where we could go. Very gracious host.

Carmen and Jim, their cat and puppy made for an excellent B&B experience! They treated us like family and from the very moment we arrived, the stay was perfect. I would highly recommend the Butterscotch House to anyone. Great job!

To start with our room was a Victorian beauty. The entire house is big and beautiful. We didn't get a chance to use the hot tub but definitely will next time. Jim was very friendly and helpful with ideas of things to do in the area and directions. The BEST part was the breakfast. It was gourmet and AMAZING! We had fresh hot delicious and creative food waiting for us the two mornings we stayed!

We visited the Butterscotch House in mid-September. We were warmly greeted by Carmen and Jim and Abby the dog and Cocoa the cat. We stayed just one night as we were passing through but were delighted by our hosts and their hospitality. Our room was beautifully furnished and everything we could have asked for was in the room including coffee and tea, and a mini fridge to store our cooler contents. Our breakfast was delicious and our conversation delightful as we learned about the history of the Butterscotch House and the area was intriguing. Since we are from the Greater Toronto Area in Canada, the value we received was outstanding for the price we paid. We have been telling our friends and family about our peaceful stay and look forward to passing through again some day! Thank you Carmen and Jim!

It was wonderful, it made my daughter's wedding morning even more special than it already was.

Carmen really knows how to treat his guests. The rooms are comfortable, the amenities are generous and breakfast was fantastic! A great find.

Carmen and Jim are both kind, considerate and wonderful hosts. They went well beyond my expectations and even attended my father's funeral. The inn is tastefully decorated, clean and excellent food.

We have been staying with several families for six years, each Labor Day weekend. Jim and Carmen are now part of our extended family. Food and hospitality +++ a "10"

I had an extended stay at the Butterscotch House, and Carmen & Jim made me feel very welcome in their beautiful home. I would highly recommend it to anyone staying in the area or passing through.

We are from New Zealand and had two nights here. It was a lovely place and after being on the road and staying at hotels it was so nice to be at a place that felt cosy. And the breakfast was awesome. Adirondack Suite was like being at home. They also accommodate at last minute request for rooms for family members to attend a funeral. Thank you very much!!! Would recommend to all!

A wonderful, clean, cozy, attractive home away from home. The inn keepers are wonderful and do all they can to make your vist pleasant. The food and service are top notch. I would recommend this place to all who re looking for a relaxing wonderful time

Simple a wonderful B&B in an area that has many outdoor activities for any season. Carmen Sweet runs this B&B and will do everythying possible to make your stay unforgettable. The breakfasts were bountiful, the gardens surrounding the B&B werre lovely, the hot tub terrific after a hard day canoeing or biking. For a great value, share the bathroom as we did with friends on the top floor.

I did not know what to expect from my first time at a B&B. Upon arrival to a stunning Victorian house, it was nothing shy of enchanting, from the cozy decorations, to the kindness of the service. If you want a peaceful retreat without the noise, this is it!

For 15 years I've been coming to the Adirondacs to pick up barrels of maple syrup to serve at a Baltimore County pancake breakfast and to ski the snowy trails in Tug Hill. My usual B & B (Hidden Comfort) was temporarily closed and recommended Buterscotch House. This provided me two unexpected benefits: two garages to keep the snow off my car and the trailer carrying two barrels of the finest, and an outdoor deck with a hot tub to sooth the skiing muscles. Carmen's hospitality and breakfasts were exceptional. He heard we were having wine before going out to supper and unexpectedly provided cheese and crackers!

Carmen and Jim are a #1! Look forward to a return visit!

My boyfriend and I stayed here Sept 2006 as I was visiting family in the area. It was a great place and the breakfasts were just above and beyond. I will stay again when I come back to visit. The location was good and the rooms nice and clean. The house was beautiful and nicely decorated.

While I live in Pennsylvania, my family roots are in Lewis County. My aunt and I stayed there in May 2007. It was both of our first stay in a bed and breakfast and it was a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Lewis County Suite and felt right at home. Carmen's breakfasts are incredible and he was gracious enough to include local family members. We're on our way back for another visit soon with more of our family members!

Our family stayed Memorial Day weekend 2007 with Jim and Carmen and were pleasantly surprised. We had never stayed in a B&B before and didn't know what to expect. We would book a stay here again without hestitation and have already told many friends about the wonderful hospitality. Jim and Carmen make sure that your stay is enjoyable and their attention to detail says it all.
