Thyme in the Country

  • Inn Details

Thyme in the Country is an 1880's farmhouse on 5 pastoral acres in the heart of Columbia County, New York. We feel very fortunate and proud to be part of a community with so much to offer visitors looking for a meaningful get-a-way. Surrounded by scenic beauty and agricultural farmland, we strive to reflect this heritage in our accommodations. Helping you put together a vacation experience interwoven with our local culture is what we enjoy the most. From skating in the moonlight over a frozen pond, to jumping from a swing into a pile of fall leaves, we try our best to have our guests relax and enjoy the peace of country living at its simple best. We are committed to healthy and sustainable living, and "green" principles are incorporated into every aspect of what we do-from the food we serve to the electricity we use. We live environmentalism and promote it and pass the benefits on to our guests.

    Innkeeper Information

    Innkeepers Description:

Herbs; growing them, cooking with them, decorating and learning about their folk lore has always been one of our hobbies. We have created a bed and breakfast that combines this hobby with our lifestyle, having an emphasis on ecology and interwoven with the local culture. The result has been a more meaningful experience for me and my 11 year old son, for each guest and hopefully for our local community.

    The innkeepers speak:

I am 7 years old and my stay at Mary's place was so fun that my mom said I could write this review. I think you should go to! When I was there the chickens got out and me and my friend had to chase them back in. They have 2 dogs. And a 7 week old bull & a 6 day old calf. Mary gives you sweets in the afternoon.

A Victorian farmhouse hidden on a peaceful road in lush farmland. Proprietors with a genuinely warm and not intrusive, not hokey, hospitality offer an ambience of know-how and well-being. Our pretty, clean bedroom had three windows and the complete works of Charles Dickens. A firm mattress. We enjoyed indoor and outdoor reading and walking areas, a porch, a deck and romantic antique swings, moist strawberry-rhubarb mini-cakes for snacks. A salt-water swimming pool area festooned with flowering bushes. Beyond that an organic vegetable garden, various pastures with beautiful black and white cows and grazing areas for roosters and chickens. A pond with canoes. Wake up to herb scented breezes and a lemon herb cooler in a vintage, etched glass. A yummy organic breakfast. How did they know I really needed a fresh baked quiche with a gluten-free crust? If the bathrooms need a little updating, we didn't care. Mary and Bill think of everything. RH New York, NY
