If you visualize what your perfect experience would be at a Bed & Breakfast, you're likely to imagine something like a stay at Captain Schoonmakers. At the forefront of my experience in April '13 was the personal, engaging touch. Bill & Judy were welcoming, helpful with recommendations of things to do and the breakfast experience was beyond expectations. Each morning we had a communal meal (a sweet day & savory one) with really out of this world cooking and service. My fave was the sweet, crispy waffles! The mood set by Bill & Judy was warm and personal while we still felt we had just the right amount of privacy. The home is lovely, full of character and convenient to many nearby towns with loads to do. The "babbling brook" and small waterfall makes for meditative mornings and afternoon. My husband and I started visiting Captain Schoonmaker's almost 8 years ago. This is truly a "home away from home" and a place I find to recharge and reset. My only wish is that we could visit more often but with two little ones, the opportunity is not all that often. This weekend was a lucky one for us. Bill and Judy are such wonderful, wonderful people and are beyond welcoming and perfect hosts. My husband being a chef and me being a foodie, we enjoy good food. Judy is an excellent chef and the presentation she delivers is nothing short of a beauty and complete satisfaction. We think a cookbook is in order! Bill has mastered coffee making and countless cups of hot joe are filled quickly. The main house and carriage house are decorated so fitting and when I brought my Mom away for a girls weekend, her reaction was "you could move right in". Each of the carriage house rooms has it's own balcony overlooking the stream and waterfall and the grounds are inviting for a picnic, nap or sipping wine.

We stayed at Captain Schoonmakers in July of 2012. The rooms were charming, immaculate and fulfilled our every requirement. The property was beautiful and included a view of the stream from our porch. Breakfast was outstanding from the frittata to the delicious bacon and fresh fruit. Coffee was delicious and plentiful. Our room was very comfortable and featured a jacuzzi tub, a/c, and a 4 poster comfy bed. My hubby and I slept very soundly listening to the hum of the stream. Judy and Bill, the proprietors, were very accommodating and recommended great restaurants, esp. the Inn At Stone Ridge and also provided valuable information on many of the areas activities that we enjoyed, particularly hiking at the Mohonk Preserve and Lake Minnewaska, which had spectacular views. The local wineries were really beautiful and served quality wines, which we really enjoyed along with a beautiful view. All in all, the vacation was an outstanding one. We will absolute;y return to this great B&B in the very near future. We truly enjoyed every aspect of the accommodations and the Hudson Valley is very beautiful as well!! S. and J. from L.I.

The 2 nights we spent at this gorgeous place felt like a 2 week vacation. The Klocks are wonderful hosts and spare no detail in making your stay as cozy as staying at your grandma's but private enough for a romantic getaway with the one you love. Bill and Judy were awesome host. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and the food was great! I strongly suggest you stay here if you're looking for a nice relaxing get away with out the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

I'm leery of giving Captain Schoonmaker's a great review because I'd love to keep this place all to myself. It is hands-down one of my favorite places to stay. I always book the Captain's Quarters and it's always perfection in every way: From the details throughout the home to the gorgeous landscape to the warm fireplaces lit everywhere to the amazing cooking and best of all, to the hospitality of Judy and Bill. If I were to build my own country home full of charm and warmth, it would be modeled after Captain Schoonmaker's!

A much needed respite from the City, my boyfriend and I spent the weekend at Captain Schoonmaker's. It was our first B&B experience and it - by far - exceeded expectations. It was so charming - the rustic carriage house (where our room was), the stream and waterfall on the property, antiques everywhere, fireplaces for our use, the quirks of an old home (circa 1760!), and, of course, the lovely hosts, Bill and Judy. They were so sweet, and the breakfasts were delicious! It was so fun to meet the other guests (all of whom were lovely), and the location was perfect - close to great resty's, wineries and hiking. Highly recommend; can't wait to return!

We were given this stay as a gift and just loved it as a matter of fact we are going again this week-end. It is so serene and great location on a river. I highly recommend this place for a great get away from it all.

Bill and Judy were warm and welcoming hosts; the bed and breakfast is a charming getaway in a wonderful setting. My room overlooked the creek, was furnished with antiques and made me feel as though I were in a 19th century retreat. The only drawback was the other set of guests who didn't seem to know about the standard 'no noise after 11pm policy' most of us travelers abide by, but that is bad luck, no fault of the Schoonmaker B&B. Aside from that, I'd stay again!

Terrific breakfasts, generous and pleasant host and hostess, beautiful location. The room was clean, nicely furnished, and had a beautiful balcony overlooking the river and waterfalls. I highly recommend staying at Captain Schoonmakers and look forward to staying here again in the future.

We had a wedding to attend in Accord NY and Capt Schoonmakers B&B was recommended by the bridegroom who publishes VisitVortex magazine for the area. We were very happy with his choice and Bill and Judy were delightful. Their B&B property is beautiful with a running stream and waterfall visible from our room. The breakfast both mornings was wonderful and Judy is extremely attentive to any dietary concerns. The room we had (# 3) in the small building was really nice and the bathroom was so big for a b&B. We would certainly return and the recommendation from VisitVortex for restaurants also was great and the website is: visitvortex.com for videos of all.

While in the area for antique shop exploring, we stayed in the Captain's Quarters at Capt. Schoonmaker's. What a treat! From the moment we arrived, we felt pampered by our cozy room and the historic setting we were in. And Judy's flair for displaying her amazing collection of antiques made us appreciate our own shopping experiences in the area even more. After a delicious breakfast each morning (made with eggs from their own hen house!), and time relaxing by the babbling brook and waterfall right on the property, we decided that this would be our getaway spot whenever we came to the Hudson Valley area. Thanks, Judy & Bill... we'll be back!

My husband and I had a lovely two day spring stay at Captain Schoonmakers last month. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the falls and stream outside provide a relaxing backdrop.We stayed with Judy and Bill Klock once before, last Fall.They could not have been lovlier hosts.This stay,we were served by Daria,who was equally wonderful.The plentiful and varied breakfast is terrific-the best that I've had at a B&B! We would definitely recommend Captain Schoonmakers to other guests.

This is our third stay at Captain Schoonmakers Inn. If we are in the area we will definitely plan on staying there again. The rooms are kept spotless clean, the beds are comfortable so I got a really good night sleep - which is just what I needed to help me relax after a busy week. I love the way the rooms are decorated by Judy with antiques that she has found over the years, lots of nice little touches. The breakfast are always delicious and give you a good start to the day. I would definitely recommend this Inn.

Judy and Bill Klock are simply the most professional and warmest B&B owners in the business. Their rooms are clean and decorated with taste and love. Their breakfasts are always delicious and presented with enthusiasm and joy. I cannot begin to explain how comfortable we are staying with the Klocks...and BO!!!

We had the waterfall room, and the view was absolutely stunning! Could open the door and listen to the calming sounds of the running water. EXTREMELY relaxing!! We absolutely loved our host, Connie!!! (B&J weren't present) She was the most friendly and warmest person! She cared so much about our stay and greeted us with such warmth and made us felt so special and welcomed!! The house and room were very cozy and very decorated, and there were so much things to do you could never get bored. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful (though a bit awkward to have to eat with other B&B guests/strangers at the same table...). The fresh eggs for breakfast were tasteful! Overall, an amazing B&B experience and thank you, Connie, for making it even better! Highly Highly recommend this place!!!

My husband and I stayed for the weekend in the carriage house. The room was decorated lovely, and we had a gorgeous view of the falls. The bed was comfy and we loved the outdoor porch. Judy made us wonderful breakfasts and Bill kept the coffee coming and made sure we had enough wood for our fire in the living room. We would love to stay here again.

we have only good things to say about our three day stay at captain schoonmakers. not only are bill and judy wonderful hosts, but they also have a sense of humor. we are looking forward to our next visit.

My boyfriend and I just came back from a very restful and relaxing couple of days. We really enjoy the B&B!! The rooms, the food and our hosts Bill and Judy (Happy Bday Judy and many more) were all fabulous!!! We are already planning our return.

Although I now live in Europe, I grew up in the Hudson Valley and particularly love the area on the west side of the river near the Mohonk reserve. When business brought me back home for a short visit, I was really pleased that Captain Schoonmaker's had a room on the the beautiful stream that runs in the back of their property. That sound, helped by a small water fall, is the best music and even though it was November, just cracking the window allowed the sound to fill our room (and block the occasional road noise.) The room itself was charming and comfortable with a nice feeling of privacy. The only small caveat is that the walls are thin and one occasionally hears other guests in the adjacent room but most B&B visitors tend to be quiet and polite. The real surprise were the breakfasts. I imagine most of us have a hurried meal - a yoghurt, bowl of cereal, whatever, but these were feasts, well prepared and with real imagination. Sweet french toast with a slice of salty bacon. The innkeepers coudn't have been nicer and and I enjoyed the company of the other guests at breakfast. A nice place to visit and I would definitely re-book next time I am back in this very nice part of the world.

Wish our short stay could have lasted a little longer. The main house has so much history and is so warm and welcoming. The rooms were cozy and adorable. The breakfast which is included in your stay was very good. I would definitely recommend staying here again and will absolutely make it back. The captain and his wife are so sweet and friendly. A well needed rest away from the craziness of long island.....Aunt Judy and Uncle Bill are the BEST and have the most beautiful bed and breakfast around !!!!!!!

The breakfast was excellent. Opening our back door and listening to the running water was so relaxing. We had a very nice time.

Four delightful evenings were spent at Captain Schoonmakers! The innkeepers were warm and friendly. The public rooms in the Inn were charming and decorated beautifully for the autumn season. Breakfasts were amazing...fresh baked goods, a different china pattern each day, wonderful juices and main course breakfast items ranging from quiche to "Dutch babies." The eggs were fresh from the on-site chicken coop! Yum. The setting was romantic including a private waterfall and babbling creek. Delightful all round. GO!

We arrived after 11pm on a Friday night and were exhausted after a long and arduous drive. The little touch of having sherry awaiting us in the room was surely welcome. We were going to a wedding the next day and as my husband was hanging our clothes up he realized that he forgot to bring his clothes for the wedding. Judy had the best suggestion for us to go to a nearby church sale and buy and gently used jacket. It cost $3.75 and looked just fine. The breakfasts on Sat and Sun were both delicious and the company was delightful. We are going to try and convince our friends to take the place for the weekend.

Just got back from a "Moms and Daughters" getaway with my old friend from high school and her daughter. What a great send-off for my daughter, who will be going off to college next week. After much online research, I suggested we stay at Captain Schoonmaker's, a beautiful B&B I found in "Country Living" Magazine years ago and had been dreaming about ever since. When we arrived there in person, I knew it was just what I was looking for in a bed and breakfast. The accommodations, decor, location and scores of personal touches (from the herbal bath grains in the tub, to the complimentary afternoon and evening home-baked cookies) made our two days delightful. Breakfast, my favorite meal, was exactly what I was hoping for: we enjoyed fresh fruit salad, fresh squeezed juice, piping hot coffee, fluffy pancakes, and scones the first morning. Breakfast (on different, but equally lovely tableware) the following morning included fresh-squeezed juice, homemade yogurt/fruit/granola parfait, quiche, sausage, from-scratch blueberry muffins, and homemade cookies. It was wonderful to linger over coffee for as long as we wanted, chatting with other guests in the beautiful country dining room. The feature that most impressed me,however, was the warmth and hospitality of the innkeepers, Judy and Bill. One truly feels as if he or she is guest in their home. Their friendliness and willingness to be of help whenever they can exceeded my expectations. (I've had a previous experience in Charleston, where the historic B&B was lovely, but the hosts less-than-hospitable.) At this convenient Hudson Valley location, we were able to go hiking at the Mohonk Mt. House, outlet shopping at Woodbury Commons, walking around Woodstock and exploring lots of Catskill Mt. towns, including Tannersville and Hunter. It was such a treat having our balcony overlook the stream, whose relaxing sound lulled me to sleep each night. I couldn't be happier I chose this B&B for our getaway.

My husband and I celebrated our 7th anniversary here. We stayed in the "Captain's Quarters". Loved that we had the whole house to ourselves at night. All suggestions for food and activities made by Judy and Bill were right on. We hiked and had spa treatments at Mohonk Mountain. No way would we stay at Mohonk- this was so much better and cheaper! Enjoyed the grounds, stream, chickens (they make great eggs-lol!) and of course Beau! We were so sad we had to leave and get back to life/reality! No worries though- we'll be back! We spent our 8th wedding anniversary at Captain Schoonmakers and can't wait to go back !!! The sound of the stream lulled us to sleep, the delicious breakfast by the fireplace, and home made cookies made us feel special. We enjoyed Bill and Judy's genuine hospitality. This was a great experience from beginning to end. When we had some trouble with the directions, we called a few times while on the way, and Judy was gracious and helpful over the phone. When we arrived our gorgeous room (Captain's Quarters) was so nice - fireplace and all! - that we didn't want to leave. Homemade cookies and a nightcap were on offer. The bed was roomy and truly comfortable (kind of a rarity, in my opinion), the towels in the bathroom so fresh-smelling that our little daughter commented on how much she liked their scent, and breakfast was delicious (poached pears, scones, fresh juices, coffee, caramelized French toast, turkey sausage). The hosts even accommodated a dietary restriction we'd forgotten to mention with nothing but smiles. And the grounds are lush and inviting - beautiful flowers everywhere but not so over-landscaped that it feels unnatural. It's the nicest b and b we've ever stayed in, and we're planning on going back as soon as we can.

Our stay at Captain Schoonmaker’s will be a lasting memory for its romantic and relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings with exceptional hosts, Judy and Bill Klock. Our room in the carriage house offered privacy and a balcony overlooking a postcard view of a woodland scene, complete with waterfalls, and blossoming flowers and trees of their garden. The antique furniture and harmonious attractive interior decoration of the bedrooms and inn reflected the historic theme of the property – providing a warm inviting unique atmosphere. Judy surprised us with changing lovely table settings and full delicious hot breakfasts each day. Both Bill and Judy were helpful with suggestions, directions, and knowledge so that we could better take advantage of nature hikes (Minnewaska State Park trails) and local restaurants. We are especially grateful for their thoughtful accommodation of our special requests, their sincere friendliness, and unexpected treats of freshly baked cookies in the evening. Independent from the great comments we heard from returning guests throughout our stay, we had already decided for certain that we would be returning to enjoy Judy and Bill’s hospitality again at Captain Schoonmaker’s. We just spent out first evening in the Captain's Quarters in the old stone house at Captain Schoonmaker's, and we have already reserved two more nights in the near future. We could not ask for anything better for peace, quiet, relaxation and renewal. It was just what we needed as a couple - time away to be ourselves again. The room is spacious and lovely...the fireplace clinched the need for a second night the next time we stay. Our hosts, Judy and Bill, were gracious and the breakfast was incredible! The sound of the waterfall and just browsing the grounds set the tone for a lovely stay. We have already recommended this B & B to friends! My primary residence is in Washington, DC and my summer home is in the Adirondacks and my home going between the two is Capt Schoonmaker's. I rest better in my third home than in the other two. And breakfast is far better there. Sally Berk

We wanted a stop after the hustle and bustle of Saratoga during racing season, and wanted to visit the Museum at Bethel Woods since we're "old flower children". I found this online and it was wonderful. Our only regret was that the weather was so uncooperative that we were unable to truly enjoy all the outdoor activities the property had to offer. The storm took out power on Friday, so we left a day early. I guess the weather wanted to commemorate the original Woodstock Festival as well. Judy and Bill were wonderful hosts. Judy was unflappable when water and power went out. She was a wealth of information with regard to directions and restaurant suggestions as well as other area points of interest. My husband and I decided we needed to just get away for a night. We stayed at Captain Schoonmaker’s five years ago and remembered its charm. It hasn’t changed. The property is beautiful and very relaxing. If you are looking for a get-a-way this is the place to go. Grab a bottle of wine from one of the near by vineyards or wine shops. Judy and Bill will provide the wine opener, glasses and a perfect setting. There is also a lovely cheese shop in Rosendale a couple of miles up the road. Sit by the creek and listen to the water fall. All your cares will melt away. It is just wonderful. Golfers there are 10 courses with in 10 miles. We played Mohonk, very challenging and fun. Ladies there are two very nice spas with in 5 miles also! There is a little bit for everyone food, wine, golf, recreation and the price is very reasonable. We really enjoyed the room near the waterfall in the Carriage House. Leave your door open and fall asleep to the wonderful sounds of the water fall. We will be back! Thanks Judy & Bill.

My husband and I wanted a short getaway that wasn't too far and had enough to do for a few days. We had been to the area before but this was our first stay at Captain Schoonmakers B&B. What a great choice! The main house, a historic home from the 1760's, has two living rooms available to guests, a dining room and a large guest suite upstairs. We stayed in one of the four rooms in the carriage house. It was warm and comfortable with balcony which had a view of a beautiful stream and waterfall on the property. The grounds are beautiful and were a perfect setting for some relaxing conversation or reading. Judy and Bill were wonderful hosts and made us feel completely at home. Judy prepared a delicious breakfast each day and was so helpful with suggestions of restaurants and things to do. We will definitely return for another getaway. S.C., Wayne, NJ

Booked a stay, sight unseen, in the Captain's Quarters. This is the warmest, and most comfortable B&B I've stayed in. Judy and Bill were attentive and helpful. The breakfast was awesome. Already booked my next stay!!

This was our first visit. Upon entering, we immediately felt the welcoming atmosphere Judy & Bill have created in this most charming yet rustic B&B. They are wonderful hosts and serve the most fabulous made from scratch breakfast treats. We stayed in the Captains Quarters which is upstairs in the stone house. It is a lovely private suite with a fire place, it is a very cozy. We will definitely stay with Judy & Bill again and may plan a trip just to relax at this wonderful B&B.

We stayed there for our husbands 40th and have an amazing time - the place was beautiful, quiet and truly such a nice place to stay and get away! Judy and bill were extremely nice and made you feel comfortable from the moment we got there! We hope to come back soon!

My friend and I are pretty discriminating travelers. We did a lot of research and were looking for the perfect peaceful two-day getaway near NYC. Someplace intimate but not too small, somewhat country, but with enough to do so we're not in the middle of nowhere. We finally settled on Captain Schoonmaker's, a charming B&B two hours north of the city. This was our first experience with a B&B and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Judy, Bill and Daria were so friendly and helpful. Our room in the Carriage House had a beautiful waterfall view and the sound of the stream lulled us to sleep each night. We spent our mornings enjoying the delicious breakfasts, which included eggnog pancakes, bacon, and homemade muffins. The dining room was lovely, with a roaring fireplace and beautiful silverware. We spent lazy afternoons reading, napping, and sitting by the stream. Judy recommended a terrific restaurant for dinner and the food was great. This trip was exactly was we were looking for: someplace clean, quaint and relaxing, nice owners, good food. We would definitely return.

Friendly service, great views from the room and excellent breakfast. We really enjoyed a night a night of reading by the fireplace. We'd love to visit again ( in warmer weather :)

We stayed at Captain Schoonmaker's B&B in late January, which was our 4th time visiting this wonderful inn. We've enjoyed the rooms in the carriage house on previous visits, but like the Captain's Quarters the best. It's upstairs in the main house, a stone house built around 1760 by a Revolutionary War hero. What a cozy getaway from the hectic city and business world! The innkeepers, Judy & Bill, are so nice, and their breakfasts are worth waking up for (though we hated to leave our warm bed)! This is a beautifully rustic place, with its own river and waterfall, and we even saw some deer on the property when we walked down to the water. You should really give Captain Schoonmaker's a try. We will certainly be back!

My husband and I had the great pleasure of spending part of our honeymoon here. The room was amazing, as was the service and hospitality we received. We give it 4 stars!

We have been guests of Bill and Judy twice. Each and everytime has been a wonderful experience. One can feel the history of this home and Bill and Judy were absolutely wonderful hosts. We look forward to staying again soon.

My girlfriend and I had a great time celebrating my birthday on an early April weekend at this lovely B&B. The rooms were spotless and cozy, the breakfasts' delicious, and the scenery beautiful! Judy and Bill are friendly and wonderful innkeepers. We felt very much at home. We would recommend this B&B to everyone and will definitley return.

We spent 2 relaxing nights in the Captain's Quarters - very cozy & private. This inn is very interesting, with antiques displayed everywhere, and lots of history that the innkeepers shared with us. The breakfasts were simply scrumptious, and served in front of a 1760 fireplace. The babbling brook and waterfall made our stay so peaceful and serene. We'll definitely be back!
