The Kaaterskill

I just stayed at The Kaaterskill last night and it was very pleasant to say the least. As me and my girlfriend pulled in the driveway, about 5 bunny rabbits casually parted and allowed our car to park. I saw horses running in the distance across the pond, which can all be seen from your room. The room was amazing. A fireplace in front of the bed, a table with 2 chairs, a couch, tv with cable, cd player, radio, microwave, and fridge made this very accommodating. There was also a bath tub with water jets, and a stand up shower seperate. If you get a room on the second floor there will be vaulted ceilings. The balcony overlooked the pond and horses, while in the very visable distance was a beautiful mountain. They supply firewood and materials to get it started easy. There were wine glasses, so just bring the wine. This place is a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature and maybe someone special. Not a single complaint. Clean and beautiful! I'll stay there again for sure.

We stayed in the Thomas Cole suite and it was wonderful! The natural wood fireplace (so many gas units these days), super comfortable bed and great jacuzzi bath. The only (minor) complaint; a very small shower stall. A fabulous stay, thank you Debbie.

We had an exceptional time. The rooms were spacious, gorgeous, and lined with luxuries. The grounds provided relaxed, quiet fun. We will definitely return!

We stayed at this beautiful setting and absolutely loved it. It's a charming place and the units are exceptionally stylish. We spent most of our time at the property, and wandered amongst the bush, the creek and relaxed with a bottle of wine in the evenings, at the little lake house. From someone who has travelled worldwide, this place sticks in my memory and I would highly recommend it for a relaxing or romantic get-away. FYI the entire catskill area is surrounded by water, although we never had a problem with mosquitos.

The sad, lonely and animal-hating woman that wrote the comment about "Too Many Dogs.." was referring to MY dogs who did not attack her or cause any problems other than to be present at this beautiful place at the same time we were. She has debilitating and irrational fear of dogs so one has to wonder why she would choose an inn that allows pets. Anyway - please disregard her comments. The Kaaterskill is a wonderful animal-friendly place w/perfect amenities and accommodations. The scenery is outstanding and furnishings very tasteful and contemporary. The trails, creek, pond and boat house add a lot fun to the property and the loveable farm critters roaming about and simply enjoying life completed the package of well-enjoyed, peaceful weekend. Highly recommended!

The rooms and setting are beautiful, the inn keeper was very welcoming and helpful. Yet, I found two big issues there: too many mosquito and too many dogs. The place is surrounded by wet land, may be it it is the reason with mosquito. The place is "dog-friendly". One couple brought three big untrained dogs, they allowed dogs to attack me. Next time, I will try to find more human-friendly place.

Our stay at The Kaaterskills was Fabulous. There are not enough adjectives to describe how wonderful this Bed and Breakfast is. My children declared our stay there as "The Best Vacation Ever". They loved swimming in the rushing creek, petting the animals especially Apple the pig and fishing in the pond, my son caught several fish. . They were even allowed to help Lonnie and Debbie feed the animals in the mornings and evenings. We loved the serene atmosphere and the beautiful and spacious rooms. After gushing about our stay to the neighbors we are all wanting to go for a stay during ski season.

A perfect place to calm one's mind and restore one's energies. A place of great personality and beauty, both the rooms and the farm. Having all those animals around (and being able to feed them) was such great fun and the best medicine for relaxation. Definitely worth coming back and/or staying longer.

The views are breathtaking! The room was breathtaking! The managers are very friendly and always there with a smile! Very different B and B and one that must be experienced!!! Great for couples, families, individuals....anyone! We loved it! We will return in the near future! Animals were funny and cute. The property is breathtaking! I could go on and on!!!! There is not the traditional hot breakfast served but all the other amenities make up for that! They do provide instant oatmeal, granola bars, coffee, tea..etc...LOVE IT!!!!

It is a beautiful and quiet place. I really enjoy the peacefulness in this place. It was fun to see the animals running around the property, the goats are so cute and the pig is so funny that she ran up to us right when we got out of the car. They have a picnic table next to the creek, it's just a perfect spot. when the weather is nice, it's great to walk around. There is a nice little waterfall nearby, about 15 mins walk. Just make sure you go to "High Falls Road Extension" not just "High falls road" as there are several roads called High falls road. prepared yourself with food that is microwavable, or food that you don't need to heat it up unless you're planning to eat out (there are no restaurant or grocery stores within walking distance, but there are a few take out menu in the common room, and some offer delivery). Don't rely on taxi service, they are always backed up (maybe because we visited the area during the holidays). Afterall, it is a great place to stay at and to get away from all. Visited the Bailiwick Ranch nearby (5 mins driving). it was a lot of fun. I look forward to going back there.

what a perfect setting for an escape from the city! instead of seeing catskill kitsch, you find yourself in the middle of a Hudson River painting. this luxuriously converted farm is at the base of the mountains with panoramic views with animals and with a 30 plus acre national parklike setting to explore along the famous Kaaterskill Creek. there is nothing but peace and quiet and you are left alone in a very comfortable room- but if you need help, the innkeepers are only a call away and are very nice. the place is abound with wildlife and farm animals- we watched the beautiful thoroughbreds run in the morning on the back fields.....we will be back!

A beautiful place, setting is idyllic, rooms are very cozy (especially the Church), a REAL two-person Jacuzzi tub (not just a bathtub with jets) in a large, warm, wood-paneled bathroom, manager and owner very friendly but good about giving guests space to roam the grounds or hibernate in their rooms as they like. Couple of things to note however - Despite being billed as a Bed & Breakfast - breakfast is not included, you pay extra if you want it - and housekeeping service, during my stay, was on-demand. They will not give you fresh linens/towels/utensils/bottled water unless you ask - but if you do ask, expect PROMPT (i.e. near-instantaneous) delivery of whatever you need. Apple the pot-bellied pig greeted us each morning, roaming the grounds as if she owned the joint - we fed her carrots and watched her get all frisky with her toys. The horses were more stand-offish, but the bunnies were very cute as they nibbled on carrots provided by the owner's friendly daughter. Geese were apparently using the pond as a stop-over or landmark on their way North, there were always a few to be found on the grounds, or heard as they passed overhead. There's a charming falls on the Kaaterskill creek a short walk down the road, it marks the top of a trail that runs along the creek down to the famous Kaaterskill Falls. The nearby town of Hudson offers upscale dining (we loved Baba Louie's pasta and fresh salads), art galleries and antiquing. Hudson River valley artist Frederick Church's home Olana is just 15 minutes away, worth a visit for the view of the river or to see some of Church's work in his actual studio. A very relaxing spot for a couple of city-dwellers - the air couldn't be cleaner or sweeter-smelling, the farm-setting was perfect - felt like we were a million miles from the hustle and bustle of NYC - in fact, the drive up from the city was less than 2 hrs.

The property itself is beautiful and the views from each room are gorgeous...trees, mountains, sunset. The room we stayed in was beautifully appointed with modern (Ikea) furniture and devoid of the tchotchkes you expect to find at a B&B. The bathroom was large, with a very nice hot tub. The shower was separate and a little small if you're taller than, say, 5'8". There's a small kitchenette with a mini-fridge and some dinnerware. Our fridge smelled a little strange, but this isn't really a place you'd stay if you wanted to eat in. The Kaaterskill is close to many wonderful little towns with great restaurants. They'll provide a nice list of things to do and places to eat. Finally, there's the fireplace. Probably THE best corner of the room. You can just sit next to a roaring fire and watch the sun go down beyond the mountains. It's really a lovely, lovely place to stay. Will definitely be going back.

we wanted a short getaway from the city and this was the perfect settting. we watched the geese and herons on the pond, walked about an hour on the back property on the trails along the creek passing the horses grazing in the field. And we cant forget, Apple, the sweet miniture pot belly pig who comes up to say hello. the rooms and bedding are luxurious and the jacuzzi divine. we will be back.
