Downtown Historic Bed & Breakfasts of Albuquerque

We love staying in smaller places when we travel that have warmth and character. This fit the bill! We had the pleasure of staying two nights in the Rosenberg room (Spy House) and took part in the April Murder Mystery event. This was one of the more entertaining nights we had in a long time. Great food, great people and lots of laughs. Breakfasts were pretty killer too (we are vegetarian and they took great care to accommodate us). We would recommend staying here any time you are in Albuquerque if you enjoy cozy environments and history. David and Kristi from Switzerland

Breakfast was just scrumptious. I would go here just for breakfast but you must have a room to enjoy breakfast. Wonderful historic house. Can't wait to go back and enjoy this place again.

On my trip to New Mexico, I read the story about The Spy House and decided that I had to stay there. The owners are among the most hospitable people I have ever met and took so much time to walk me through the history and story of the house. The rooms, all restored to period accuracy made the stay seem even more historical. Breakfast was a true treat, excellently prepared and served. And the overall atmosphere made the joy of meeting the other guests an incredible experience. I cannot rate this Bed and Breakfast any higher than to say that it was among the mostmemorable stays I have had in my travels across all 50 or the United States.

We had two rooms in the Heritage House in early April 2013. The house was beautifully decorated with period pieces and extremely clean and tidy. Kara met us upon our arrival and made sure we knew how to find everything, explained the door locks (very unique touch- locks so no fear of losing the key). Her breakfast the next day was healthy, delicious and varied and kept us going until dinner time. The B and B is within easy walking distance to several restaurants on Central Avenue and was easy to access off the highway, yet it was very quiet overnight. We enjoyed our stay.

This was really the best place I've ever stayed. My husband and I were on our mini honeymoon and the owners, Steve and Kara, made our stay the best it could have possibly been! I will definitely be going back.

We stayed in the secret garden room. A lovely room, comfortable bed, enjoyed the private bath. It was very clean and the house was beautifully cared for. Breakfast was delicious! We even had time to enjoy the lovely porch swing. A very nice visit.

Will love to come back to the spy and heritage house again even though we live in Albuquerque. It was an exelent one night stay start for my wife and I.

Here we felt very welcomed and very much at-home. We fixed our own picnic supper in one dining area, while the Mystery Dinner party happened next door. Really a fine place I would recommend to others. Situated in a historic, old neighborhood, but not really walking distance to Old Town. They gave good recommendations for dining and sights. Fun reading about the spy in the "Spy House."

A week before my wedding, our honeymoon reservations to New Orleans were derailed by a hacker. With only a week to go I frantically starting look for an alternative location. I decided that one week was not enough time to plan an out of state honeymoon so I started looking for local attractions. I saw a couple reviews of the Downtown Historic B and B and decided to give them a call. I called and spoke with Kara on the phone. She was very kind and did all that she could to help me pick the best room and package they had available. Later in our conversation I discovered she was coordinating all this with me as she was traveling back from California after a funeral. Talk about commitment and customer service!!! Our wedding was on the evening of Valentines day and we didn't arrive to the B&B until almost 10:30 p.m. I called spoke with Steve about an hour before we arrived and he went into our cottage and put champagne on ice, places a dozen roses on the table, and delivered chocolate dipped strawberries. Upon arriving, Steve escorted us to the private driveway so we could park and showed us to our cottage. In the morning, we were delivered breakfast in bed. The variety of food was great. After breakfast we were treated to private massages. In the evening we were treated to a four course meal delivered to our cottage and enjoyed a gourmet meal under candle light. I have had the privilege to staying in some of the nicest hotels and B&B's around the world. I have been to places like Spain, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Israel, France, Portugal and Mexico and nothing has been as wonderful as the kindhearted and selfless service I received at Downtown Historic B&B. As of now we plan to spend every anniversary in the same little cottage we were blessed with on our wedding night.

We loved staying here. The Heritage House room was impeccably clean and charming. Steve and Kara are great hosts. The only thing we would suggest to prospective guesta is. to make sure you have their phone number if you arrive at night, as there aren't any signs that tell you how to get access, and the houses are locked. Other than that, we found it perfect. Great restaurants within walking distance. We highly recommend it.

The room and house were very quaint and cozy, and it was obvious that a lot of work had been put into the decorations and historical atmosphere. We stayed in the Ivy Room, and it was very clean and we were able to set the temperature to our comfort. The room really does take you back to the early 1900's. Breakfast was also homemade and delicious, and we were able to use the kitchen and other rooms of the hous as we liked. I would definitely recommend this option to visitors of ABQ as a substitution for the giant hotel chains.

The property has an interesting historical connection to the Atom Bomb story and the execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenburg which we missed prior to our arrival. Our room was ready when expected; the hosts had other personal activities that coincided with our brief stay, so besides meeting them, we had only a small B&B "experience" at the time.

We enjoyed our stay very much-the mattress in the master bedroom is not ideal for a couple .

Before I chose the Downtown Historic Bed & Breakfast, I spent 3 days researching the hotels and B&B's that Albuquerque had to offer. I am so pleased that I chose to stay at Kara and Steve's place. They are caring and excellent hosts and make a super breakfast! Unfortunately for me, I had a script deadline so I had work for a day & 1/2 of the 3 days. Great atmosphere for working as well as enjoying the city of Albuquerque. When we arrived the Thanksgiving decorations were up and when we left, it was Christmas. These people know how to create a warm and caring atmosphere. (I didn't put all 5 stars because I heard an NPR report that stated that 5 stars usually means it was a paid review. This isn't a paid review.)

What a fun place to stay. My Mom and I shared the Gold room. We found it great for two people. The sleeping arrangements in the front room as well as the bed in the bedroom worked out fantastic. Kara and Steve's hospitality were wonderful. Their knowledge of the area was quite helpful. The food was amazing, this coming from a serious foodie. I would recommend it to anyone on their next trip to Albuquerque!

I decided to stay at the Downtown Historic B&B when I realized I needed to stay the night for my husband's surgery at Lovelace hospital. Not only did the proprietors manage to help me feel comfortable and secure, they also cheered me up! I live in Santa Fe. But if I ever need to stay the night in Albuquerque, I will definitely stay here again.

Sent two nights at the Cabinet House and it exceeded all expectations. We like to stay at B&Bs and this is now our favorite. The bed was comfortable, and breakfast was fantastic. The atmosphere is comfortable, welcoming and a great place for a weekend getaway.

Only stayed one night but found it very nice, comfortable and accommodating.

It's a lovely place, and the rooms are good. Food is excellent, as well as the host who is impeccably gracious. The only thing I would "complain" about -- and realizing it's not something the hosts can do without a huge expense -- is the creaking of the floor. During the ballon fiesta, some guests would go for the early program, which meant tremendous among of noise at 5AM. Otherwise, we love the place.

We were busy and didn't spend too much time at the B&B but almost wish we would have had more time there to relax!

I really enjoyed my stay in the Spy House. The grounds are beautiful and welcoming if you just want to sit around and read. If you want to get out, all the city has to offer is close by. The neighborhood is quiet. Those without a car will find good places to dine within walking distance. Those with a car will have off-the-street parking. I'm definitely going to come back.

Kara Grant is extremely welcoming and warm. Personal attention and an overwhelming effort to make us (and all guests of the B&B) comfortable was apparent from the moment we arrived.

Met a group of gal pals to enjoy the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and were more than pleased w/the accommodations, including the wonderful breakfasts! Kara was so helpful w/all of our questions and needs! Couldn't ask for a better place to stay!

It would not be possible to give high enough marks for the experience that we receieved at this establishment, we really felt like we had a caring family taking care of us.

We stayed in the Spy Houe. What a beautifully done home with many antiques as well as an interesting history. We chose to stay in the Gold Room with a private entrance so that we did not disturb any of the other guests, but since we there in the middle of the week, we had the home to ourselves for a couple of nights. The breakfasts were amazing--a little of the SW flavor as well as yummy scones and fresh fruit. There were fresh baked cookies every day, plus freshly ground coffee or tea and cold drinks. Don't miss the oppotunity to allow these innkeepers to share this beautiful place with you when you are in Albuquerque.

Peaceful atmosphere, beautiful furnishings, comfy bed, friendly host family, animals to visit and pet, very tasty breakfast . . . what more could one ask for of a B&B? The best in ABQ! This was my second stay with the Grants--I will be back for a third visit.

We chose the Carriage House at the Downtown Historic Bed & Breakfasts for our anniversary weekend. The privacy of the cottage along with the availability of breakfast next door was perfect. Kara and Steve provided excellent hospitality with the variety of their breakfasts as well as their assistance with arranging a balloon ride. Their restaurant recommendations based on places they like were all outstanding. We will definitely stay with them again when we are in Albuquerque.

We were visiting ABQ to determine whether or not we'd like to move there...the host family was so friendly and helpful, giving us maps of the area to explore, discussing school options and encouraging their own children to play with our daughter while we were there! I have dietary restrictions and they were completely willing to adjust how they prepared my meal to suit those needs. Even though it was August when we visited, we were able to enjoy reading and relaxing outside underneath the beautiful sitting areas they've created, listening to the water fountain, watching the cats frolic in the yard, pulling a grape off the bush along the path, ah!! Lovely atmosphere and great people.

We arrived late to our destination (after dark) and had a little difficulty finding the home. We had not had dinner and Kara directed us to the Holy Cow (within walking distance) for our late dinner. The food was wonderful. Huge burgers and great zuchinni sticks! The house was as charming as depicted on the website. Our room was a romantic and cozy setting. The towels were soft and fluffy and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was served promptly at 8:30 a.m. and exceeded our expectations. Our hosts were gracious and very accomodating about special diets and foods. We will definitely return when we are in the area again.

I am new to be bed and breakfast scene....what a great introduction to a new way to travel. Steve is a gracious host and excellent chef! We will be going back!

Our family of 4 recently stayed in a small apartment at the Alburquerque B&B on 207 High Street. It was absolutely perfect for exploring the area and was comfortable with 2 18year olds. The breakfasts were served family style in an elegant dining room. The food and company was always beyond our expectations. We plan to return to the same B&B if we are in the area again.

Driving from Tennessee to California& back, I planned a variety of lodging so we would have something to look forward to after the long days in the car.After reading the reviews,I was excited to find a Bed and Breakfast w/Murder Mystery Dinner because my kids (14&21)love mysteries.I was disappointed to find it was not a nightly show.Still, I thought it would be a great contrast & the kids would also learn some history.After reading the previous post,I am sorry that we did not arrive in time to meet Steve and Kara personally.They had made arrangements for a late self check-in for us,but it would have been great to have had the mini-tour of the house&learn first-hand about the area.We had our large suitcases,so getting up the stairs was a challenge,(they have a "watch your step" sign at a particularly tricky spot where the stairs take a turn,& please be careful here.The Ivy Room was a comfortable temperature, and the bed was comfortable. The bath was well-stocked,& my children had never seen a claw-foot tub, which they thought was really "cool." It was equipped with a modern showerhead & there were also cozy robes in the room.We used the fold-out sofa in the sitting room for my son.We found clean sheets and blankets in the room.There was an upstairs balcony off from the sitting room. We walked to the Holy Cow & had amazing burgers, fried zucchini, onion rings and milkshakes. I met an old friend & we visited together on the balcony while the kids enjoyed watching TV in the sitting room.We slept comfortably and had breakfast next door in the Spy House. Upon returning to the Heritage House, we read the framed newspaper articles on the walls downstairs and caught up on emails and Facebook messages in our room using the wi-fi.This was a great, home-like contrast to the other stays on our trip We enjoyed our stay, although very brief, and would highly recommend the Downtown Historic Bed and Breakfast. (had to cut drastically to fit)

I stayed here with my 13 year old daughter. Breakfast was delicious! Our room was always cleaned and straightened after we left for the day. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud! The owners went out of their way to take care of our needs and make us feel welcome. We plan to stay here every time we visit Albuquerque.

Downtown Historic B&B was recommended by a local friend. "It can't be this good," I thought. It was. It was a home away from home for the week I was in Albuquerque. Steve and Kara were so helpful and friendly, and run such a tight ship. It has real character, and stories to tell. If only the walls had voices. What stories they could tell of the history of the place. If you have mobility problems, enquire about a suitable room before you book. Mine was upstairs and had a shower in a raised claw bath, which was very stylish and true to the house's era but might be a problem for someone with balance problems. I am sure they would have downstairs rooms with more suitable bathrooms. They have thought of everything else!

We enjoyed our stay again this year. We originally stayed at the Spy House for our honeymoon and decided to return for our anniversary. The rooms are very clean and comfy and you cannot beat the service and the food. It was a great choice and I am sure that we will be back again.

We stayed at the Downtown Historic Bed and Breakfast over the Memorial Day weekend. The property is wonderfully quaint and in typical Albuquerque fashion with older wooden houses and cozy interiors. There was a front porch with pretty flowers and a swing where we sat and played with Steve's dog and cats. In the mornings, we would take our tea into the backyard where we enjoyed the water fountain and sounds of the hens and the company of Georgie the playful cat. The breakfasts were very delicious ! Steve and Kara catered to my finicky vegetarian requirements. Every item was unique and a surprise. My husband, who is very picky about his food that we have only a few select restaurants that we go to, enjoyed every bite and more ! Steve and Kara are very friendly, and made our stay comfortable and a pleasure. We would love to come back soon !

Staying with Steve and Kara is the highlight of our visit to Albuquerque. We always feel like we are visiting our favorite friends when we stay with them. They spoil us and make us feel like we are the only ones staying with them. Their kindness and thoughtfulness is so heartwarming. We would never stay with anywhere else while in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We Love them!

I stayed here for four days in May of 2012 while attending a conference in Albuquerque. It's a nice old house, lovingly restored. The bed was comfortable, the shower was up to date and clean. The owner was very nice, and went out of his way to accommodate my somewhat crazy schedule. The B&B is located near a street with several good bus routes, and in walking distance of the central tramway station if you don't mind a short walk. The internet setup here is very good, and I had no trouble connecting to it or using it. This may not have been the most sensible place to stay on a business visit to Albuquerque, but I enjoyed it and would do it again. Oh, and there is a very good coffee place across Central from this B&B, if you are into slow coffee. It's called the Grove Market, and they brew Intelligentsia coffee.

Walking distance to the best restaurants in town. Cheaper than the big box hotels. Great ambience, perfect rooms, supporting a great family business. Super accomodating, easy, perfect. I coulnd't ask for more! Why would you stay anywhere else in this town? And it continues to baffle me when people do choose otherwise.

A different breakfast every day for 5 days, all with home hatched eggs. The location was very close to downtown, UNM, I 25 and our relation's homes. All seven people in our wedding attending party enjoyed our time here. What a bed and breakfast can be.

Very nice properties, conveniently located to downtown, old town and airport. The innkeepers are friendly and are dedicated to running their business. We would stay here again if returning to ABQ.

I stayed here for one night and wished I'd had an excuse to stay longer! I ended up being the only guest in the house (Tuesday night stay) so I had it to myself -- and what a gorgeous house! It is richly furnished, with tapestries on the walls and newspaper articles about local history. I slept delightfully well (no noise at all) and woke up to a sensational breakfast -- banana-stuffed pancakes and a mouth-watering chile-egg-lentil concoction. Steve and Kara thoughtfully put out hot water for tea, cookies, fruit, and bottled water (in the fridge) the night before. The location is also great, not far from UNM. All that for a VERY good rate! I'll stay here next time I visit Albuquerque, no question!

We felt welcome from the first moment we met the Grants, our B and B hosts. All through our week long stay we found their warmth and genuine friendliness to make us feel quite at home. The breakfast were stupendous in both taste and presentation. Couple this with animated table talk with other guests and our endearing hosts and you have the perfect recipe for our vacation in Albuquerque.

Everything was great and set up perfectly but I would suggest a better restaurant

My fiancé and I stayed in the Ivy room in the heritage house. We got the romantic package. We got to our room to see beautiful roses waiting for us. After we got a tour of the house and property we had our 1 hour massage, followed by dinner at the Artichoke Cafe which absolutely delightful. When we came back from dinner we had chocolate covered strawberries and champagne waiting for us on the bed. The backyard is beautiful which gave us a chance to get a moonlight dance in. When we woke up the following morning we had a great breakfast in bed. I would definitely highly recommend this bed and breakfast and say it was an amazing stay. Thank you so much Steve and Kara for the wonderful stay in your beautiful hom.

My husband and I spent three nights at the Spy House recently. I was there to work and he was accompanying me. The room was very comfortable and perfectly clean, the owners were friendly and gracious, and the other guests were lots of fun. Unfortunately, I had to miss two of the three breakfasts due to my schedule, but the one I was there for was delicious. Based on what I heard from my husband, I think the others were, too. Highly recommended for a central Albuquerque or University of New Mexico stay!

Overall, our stay was comfortable and met our expectations. Get to breakfast early or expect to be the Odd-Couple-Out. You will be seated at your own table for two. Yes, you can make the case that this would be much more romantic. But, when you are seated by yourself and the group dynamic if focused elsewhere at the main table, you feel a little like the unwanted stepchild or the kids forced to sit at their own separate table for the Holidays. Our linens could have benefitted from an upgrade. We were very disappointed with the sheets and towels. All in all, our visit was about what we expected for the money. It was definitely and upgrade from the sterile environment of your typical hotel chain. Steve and Kara are quite charming and try hard to be accommodating.

We really appreciate any and all comments from our previous guests. We've been very fortunate to receive so many positive comments in the past and really appreciate that. The comments from this review concerned us a little therefore we wanted to address a few things. First of all the dining room is setup to either dine at one large table or sit about three feet away at a smaller table for two. We normally have a place setting at all seating spaces and simply let those staying with us choose a place to sit. Since the very start of our B&B business we have had both tables setup with guests dining at either one. During this breakfast time there are sometimes many conversations going back and forth between the two tables. In my opinion we believe it simply depends on the dynamics of the people on that particular day. Secondly to address the linens and towels comment we have now gone through all of our supplies to make sure the entire property has upgraded linens and towels for all of our guests to use. Thank you so much for the comments that you shared and for helping us improve our overall guest experience that much more.

This was a wonderful bed and breakfast. The hosts were hospitable, friendly and just made sure we were happy in every aspect of our stay. Our room was charming and very clean. Also, as a vegetarian, I have dietary needs about which the hosts were very accommodating. One night we had a minor problem with our bathroom that the hosts immediately resolved. We had a great stay at Downtown Historic Bed and Breakfast and when I go back to Albuquerque, that is where I'll stay again.

A fun thing about a B&B can be interacting with the owners and other guests, primarily during the shared and delicious breakfast. These two houses are lovely specimens of a time that was. They have been lovingly restored. My wife, Jenifer, and I stayed 2 nights in mid-January in the Secret Garden Room. Lovely. Nice layout and specious bath with robes available. Breakfast was served in the Spy House, made famous in the Rosenberg case. The B&B is 2 blocks from a lovely stretch of Central and 3 more blocks to the train station. A day trip to Santa Fe is easy. Inkeepers Kara and Steve Grant are more than upholding the B&B standards. Lots of lovely touches throughout our stay.

My wife and I stayed one nite for a local "retreat" and as a followup to our May wedding conducted there. Hosts Steve and Kara took good care of us. This is truly a historic property with a vintage feel, with much attention given to all the little details. Highly recommended.

What a great place! Next time we are in Albuquerque we will stay there again. Beautiful and clean, and located in the historic district that is on its way to becoming the hip part of town. Good food and hospitality!

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast. The house was simply stunning and beautifully restored. The hosts, Kara and Steve, were very polite and hospitable, making our stay extremely pleasant. Kara is a great cook, the breakfasts were not what I had expected. The food was very creative and expertly presented. It made me wish I could cook like that at home! I would recommend anyone visiting Albuquerque to stay at this bed and breakfast instead of messing with just another hotel. I have already recommended this to friends that do a lot of traveling just for travels sake, to go to Albuquerque so they can have the experience of staying here.

Charming old house with furniture of an earlier time but very comfortable bed. The location is handy to several restaurants and shops and walkable to the University of New Mexico campus.

Steve and Kara were super accommodating with my conference schedule and created some amazing breakfasts extra early so I could get out the door and to my meetings on time. It was a very relaxing place to come home to at night, and the location was perfect for attending a downtown conference. I would definitely recomend this B&B for visitors to the city of Albuquerque - whether on business or vacation.

Some buddies and I came to Albuquerque to skateboard. Most of you won't know why ABQ is special for that, but I'll just say it's worth coming out if you're into skateboarding at all. I rated the Rooms and Value as "met my expectations", because they were exactly what I expected: unique, comfortable and broken in. What I wasn't expecting was the incredible candidness and generosity that Steve and Kara showed us. They were probably a little hesitant when they saw the 3 of us get out of our rental car carrying only backpacks and skateboards and looking more than a little rough around the edges, but their kindness and openness shone through brilliantly, and we all shared great conversation over Kara's astonishing breakfasts. In all sincerity, my buddies and I are considering making this an annual visit, and we'll be staying with Steve and Kara again, without question!

My first impressions was a reminder of the house that I grew up in. Lovely wood floor that tells a story with each step. The service and food was outstanding, I highly recommend the B&B. Next year we will be back for the balloon festival.

After a long drive, was happy to arrive. It is conveniently located just off the highway and within walking distance of restaurants so I appreciated not having to get back in the car. Felt welcomed immediately by the host's warm and easy manner. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

We stayed in the Gold Room of the Spy House. It was a very private and quiet room. The breakfasts were delicious. The treats were yummy. Steve & Kara made us feel right at home. We highly recommend this B & B.

Kara and Grant are such wonderful people, they make you feel completely comfortable. We were in their new house, and it is absolutely gorgeous! Steve always makes a great breakfast in the morning and our two night anniversary trip was so fantastic because of our stay here.

Paradise in downtown Albuquerque. The owners' attention to detail made our one night stay so enjoyable. We stayed in the Ivy room for our 38th wedding anniversary. Also it was a welcome reprieve from the stress of moving from Albuquerque to Tucson. The breakfast was delicious and healthy. We would definitely stay at this bed and breakfast again.

My daughter loved the Disney movie "Lemonade Mouth". A little bit of googling led me to the b&b where some of the movie was filmed. The family that owns the b&b lives next door and they were incredible hosts. Their daughter gave my daughter a tour of the yard and home where different parts of the movie were shot. The rooms were beautifully restored and the breakfast was excellent - above and beyond!

The rooms were charming and the hosts very accommodating and helpful. I followed their advise about an Old Town tour and where to eat - the day was so enjoyable! My only regret is that I couldn't stay another day and hang out at the house, in the living room and garden.

We stayed there for 5 nights before, during, and after my husband's surgery earlier this month. It was so relaxing and met our needs so well, we spent an extra night after he was discharged instead of driving two hours to our home. The inn is charming, with careful attention to amenities that made our stay very comfortable. The rooms are tastefully decorated. We stayed in the former front porch of Spy House, now featuring a sitting room plus the bedroom. The hosts are warm and very accommodating. Breakfasts were very tasty and nutritious, and they met my strict dietary restrictions very well indeed. We hope to stay there again on happier occasions and take fuller advantage of their lovely gardens.

I was looking for a special place to celebrate our Anniversary and found it. From the very start to the end Steve and Kara are great. We found them to be fantastic and made us feel like family. The rooms and patio are breathtaking. Breakfast we great and one of a kind just like the conversation. The house and rooms are very secure and unlike a hotel had no fear or worries about the safety my property, myself or my wife. The Spy House is absolutely gorgeous! The second we walked into the home we felt comfortable. We stayed in the Gold Room. Although it was a little "cozier" than we would have liked, it worked out perfectly since we spent most of our time out and about. The breakfasts were most delicious! We could feel Kara and Steve's enthusiasm when they shared the home's history.

Looking for a suprising balance of relaxation and country charm right in the city? Kara and Steve have brought their considerable and unique talents to creating a special and memorable spot. They are present when needed, but allowing their guests to experience the animals and ambiance of their homes when one wants to be on ones own. Nice amenities, wonderful breakfasts and polite and gregarious children. Definitely calls for repeat visits.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this B&B. The accommodations and neighborhood are delightfully quaint; the food is delicious and beautiful, and Steve and Kara were friendly and warm, and went the extra mile to accommodate my odd arrival and departure times. This place is a true find.

If ever I am to return to Albuquerque I will head for Downtown Historic. Located within five minutes walk from Central Avenue and all that that entails... it offers wonderful breakfasts, soooooo very comfortable a bed, an oasis of a garden, quietly efficient hosts and peace and tranquility in the city.

Hosts Steve and Kara are very friendly, charming innkeeps! My husband and I drove across country on old Route 66 and chose the cottage at the Historic B&B of Albuquerque for our stay. Our travel plans each day (hot air balloon one morning - which Steve and Kara arranged!) prevented us from taking part in breakfast but our kitchen was well stocked and home-made cookies in the afternoon made for a wonderful, welcome surprise after hiking. We hope to go back soon!

Three adults stayed in the Rose Room, which made it a bit cramped to spend much time in, but the beds were certainly spacious and comfortable enough. Although we arrived during a wedding ceremony, Kara and Steve were very gracious and accommodating and found us an outdoor space to enjoy our mini picnic. Breakfast was fabulous! If we return with only two people, I think we'll opt for the Spy House over Heritage House - it was stunning inside.

All in all this was a lovely stay. We felt at home and loved the home-cooked breakfasts. The first morning we were treated to a green chile quiche. On day 2, fresh pancakes. The room was lovely...a bit tight for our party, but lovely nevertheless. The complimentary bottled waters and soda really was a nice touch and added to the overall value.

My fiance and I were unable to spend V-Day or my birthday together since I currently live and work on the East Coast. So we decided to have a date night in ABQ when I flew out there this time before heading back up to the Four Corners region. Steve and his family were heading out of town that weekend, but were still very accommodating especially, from what I could tell, that we were the only guests on the premises. He arranged someone to make sure we were well taken care and called me personally to check up on us. We stayed in the Rosenberg Room of the Spy House. The room was great, the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in aside from my own. I usually can't sleep the first night in a strange place, and we both slept like babies. Breakfast was delicious followed with a nice tour of the grounds. We will definitely be staying here for any future date nights :-)

I recently spent four nights in the Spy House, and I really have no complaints. The house and my room were both lovely and the service by the innkeepers was great.

Looking for a place in Albuquerque to go incognito? The Spy House is just the place. Beautifully renovated, close to most everything, Downtown, Old Town, NMU and Nob Hill. Very comfortable rooms, pleasing atmosphere, excellent food and hospitality, lots of history and most of all very friendly and accommodating owners. You will love your stay as much as we did. Interesting history about the house and the Rosenberg case, particularly since we also toured Los Alamos during our stay in NM. The host was very hospitable and the breakfast was outstanding. We did think the room was dark and would have liked more light.

A good home feeling. My wife and I had never stayed at one, so it felt awkward at first being in someone else's home, but we got use to it fairly quickly. The drinks in the fridge were free. We stayed at the Heritage House in the Top Bedroom with the Balcony; beautiful. SHOWER IS TINY. I recommend showering separately. The floors are very sqeeky, but again, it adds to the feel and realism of being in an old home. The TV gets basic cable. Both the bed and couch are comfortable. We didn't use the balcony, but it's nice. The only problem is that the have those criss-cross white-painted wood planks all around, so it kills the view, but I guess it's covering the surrounding neighborhood. I still think they could lower it just a bit to eliminate the caged-in feeling. The dining room is amazing. The owners are really nice. They're really big on serving, which is great if you're like my wife and I who love attentiveness. They also respected another couple's implied desire of seculsion, so that was good. Now, the breakfast is sort of... different, lol. It wasn't really my thing, so if you're use to typical breaskfasts, this might be weird for you. I have to admit, however, that they should probably have a menu and make typical breakfasts for the weak-stomached like me. I would have preferred simple egg and bacon, haha. There's also a lot of fruit available, so that helped. The beds are amazingly soft. I loved them! We have a really nice mattress at home and had never stayed at a place that had as good a mattress as ours. Huge plus and adds to the home feel. Also, they have Wi-Fi available, which they should have mentioned on their website since most people find that pretty important nowadays, especially me. You won't regret staying here.

A quick weekend trip to Albuquerque was fun to start, but staying at this B&B was the icing on the cake. Even if one was to discount the great architecture, amazingly restored buildings, beautiful back yard, and quiet surroundings, the list of great things about The Downtown Historic B&B of Albuquerque goes on and on. We stayed in “Spy House” -- in a room across the hall from where nuclear secrets were sold to the Russians during WWII. (Our room had a nicer bathroom!) Even if you’re not a history buff, it’s fun to be close to things of such significance. Our room had plenty of room for two people and a very comfortable bed. The central location of the B&B can’t be beat: walking distance from restaurants and the train to Santa Fe; also no more than a 15-20 minute drive from everything else we wanted to see or do. No review of a B&B is complete without mentioning the breakfast! Of the several B&Bs we’ve stayed at over the past few years, Steve and Kara may have cooked the best breakfasts. Their egg dishes are delectable (likely aided by the chickens they keep in an adjoining coop -- fresh is better!), and the pancakes were so light and fluffy as to almost float away. Vegetarian or carnivore, they’ll find a way to make your breakfast so wonderful you’d want to have it for lunch and dinner too. We don’t have anything negative to say about this B&B, and would definitely stay there again next time we’re in Albuquerque. Our one concern was its proximity to a major hospital and the potential for sirens -- but none disturbed us during our three nights there. (Things to do while staying here: a hike at Petroglyph National Monument, a quick bite at Joe S Sausage, take the train to Santa Fe, and go up the Sandia Peak Tram.)

I was at a multi-day conference at the Convention Center. This was just a 1/2 mile away, which surprised me. But it's an easy walk (3 mins. by skateboard) and the stay was wonderful. Comfortable, beautifully preserved, excellent beautiful breakfasts. Friendly and helpful hosts. When I am back in Albuquerque for ANY reason, this will be the first place I look for. The surprise was to find something so nice so close to downtown. I was really looking for cheap hotels as an alternative to the expensive and boring Hyatt. I found this when zoomed in on a Google map, checked out the prices which were less than the Hyatt, and booked for a great deal. Getting away from the convention hotel was like a retreat every night.

My husband and I just finished up our 3rd stay at the Spy House and will be going again in a few months. We enjoy bed and breakfasts and have been to many around town but we keep coming back to the Spy House. Steve and Kara make us feel at home and take the time to talk to us and make us feel welcome. The rooms are BEAUTIFUL! The breakfast.... to die for! Kara can cook like nobody's business! The house itself is filled with historic information and makes it more exciting to stay there. We felt at home during our two-night stay. The B & B was comfortable and welcoming. The food (oh, those apple-covered pancakes!) was delicious. An unexpected surprise was that we were within walking distance of several excellent restaurants. We would stay there again, no doubt.

I recently stayed a week in the Heritage House's Spy Room. The house is perfectly restored and very charming. Everything was spotless and very well maintained. The Ivy room is larger in person than it appears in the photos. The bed is very comfortable and is made with high quality and exquisitely soft sheets. The bedding and window treatments that Kara made are quite impressive and give the room a nice relaxing feel. The bathroom is spacious. The claw foot tube is spotless and has large rain soaker styled shower head. One thing that I really appreciated is that they have a seemingly endless supply of very hot water. The back yard is very nicely landscaped with a nice fountain, am outdoor fireplace (which puts off some great heat and light) and several very cozy places to sit and/or heat. I found that even in January the outdoor fireplace was a perfect place to cozy up to a glowing fire, sip a good wine and enjoy the stars. Breakfast consists of fresh ground gourmet coffee, homemade scones, fresh fruit, an egg dish and a starch (such as stuffed french toast.) It was all very good. The location of this B&B couldn't be more perfect. The neighbor hood was nice, and I felt completely comfortable taking the short 5-10 minute walk to the downtown shopping/restaurant district. There were so many great restaurants, coffee shops, and things to do within walking distance that I left my car in the driveway for the great majority of my stay. Steve and Kara have built and run a B&B with luxurious accommodations, delectable dining and perfect location. The best part is they also offer it all with warm, welcoming, and accommodating hospitality. The crazy part is that they offer all of this for the same modest price one might expect to pay at a typical cookie cutter 31/2 star hotel. If you plan on visiting Albuquerque you would do well to stay at the Downtown Historic Bed and Breakfasts of Albuquerque. You will be happy you did.

The calm in my stormy chaotic weekend. The Inn was lovely, the hosts very helpful, and the food wonderful. I highly recommend it and will hopefully have the excuse to stay again.

Our family had a delightful stay at the Heritage House both going to and coming back from Phoenix on a recent road trip. The rooms have very comfortable beds along with other modern conveniences you'd expect from a modern day hotel. The blue corn pancakes and green chile quiche that Cara & Steve made for breakfast was a delicious and a hit even with my kids (who are normally picky about breakfast). Whether you're going to be in Albuquerque or passing through to points east or west, you can't go wrong with the Heritage House or the very cool Spy House next door! From the very first phone call until we left the driveway to go home, the Grants were kind, considerate and very helpful. This was our first B&B experience and we are totally switched over whenever we travel by ourselves. The house was not only well kept and full of deep, rich Victorian colors and furniture but historical in and of itself. If we ever return to Alb for any reason, the Spy House is where we will stay! A very friendly and interesting B&B. Lovely rooms, and the proprietors were very helpful allowing us to get up a bit later for breakfast (normally at 8:30, pretty early for us Vancouverites, where 'brunch' runs till 4 PM at some restaurants!). Location was convenient to downtown and the university area by bicycle, though road construction (no fault of the B&B's of course) did make that harder. They even loaned us a bicycle lock when we went to Santa Fe for the day and lacked one for the (folding) bike we brought. The food was good, though not really extraordinary--usually some kind of egg dish and french toast, pancakes, or another starch kind of side. I'm a fan of those things and ate them happily every day, but a little more variety would have been nice. In all, an excellent stay and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends.

This lodge was picked mainly for location -- close to Rail Runner for commuting (I have no vehicle). So this plus food & other service was serendipity.

Although we only stayed for 1 night, Kara and Steve made us feel right at home and were so accommodating. We had the entire place to ourselves. Our room was very clean and cute. This was the most amazing place I could have ever had my wedding which was in June and I have to say Kara and Steve made it an even more enjoyable place. This was a treasure to find in a city I've lived in my whole life and the service, well it was exceptional from begining to end. I couldn't say more about this place and those great people which helped make my wedding the most memorable time ever I will never forget it. The key phrase that sums up our experience at the Heritage House is "stress free"! The food was fantastic, the ambiance was perfect, the owners of the bed and breakfast are genuinely nice people, and to top it all off. . . the price was reasonable.

My sister and I were driving her car across country from Philadelphia to Los Angeles and had the opportunity to pass through Albuquerque, New Mexico. We were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful drive and the gorgeous scenery. Though we didn't get to see much of the city, our stay in this quaint little bed & breakfast was worth it all! The bed and breakfast is in a nice, quiet, and clean residential neighborhood with Heritage House and Spy House sitting next to each other. It truly felt like visiting a relative's home and spending the night there - the owner greeted us when we arrived late at night and showed us to our room. We stayed in the "Secret Garden" room which was right near the entrance of the house. The owner showed us the kitchen and told us we could help ourselves to anything in the refrigerator and the cookies in the dining room. "Spy House" is where breakfast is served and that was a delightful visit. You eat family style with all the other bed and breakfast guests, and food is served as guests come. The food wasn't gourmet, but it was tasty and hearty. Like I said, everything about this place just felt like home. Not pretentious or overdone, simple and pleasant. I would definitely come back to stay if I had another chance to go to Albuquerque!

I stayed at historic Heritage for 2 nights. I was woken by the smell of coffee and sounds of the hens clucking! The homecooked breakfast was very good, bed was comfortable....the shower was great and the Grants were lovely hosts.

My husband and I stayed two nights at Heritage House, the Secret Garden Room. We were delighted by the romantic Victorian ambiance and surprised by the atmosphere of peace and tranquility two blocks off I-25! The decor was exquisite, particularly the light fixtures and opulent draperies. A friendly tri-color cat greeted us at the porch. We relaxed in the back yard with its delicate lighting and boulder fountain. But the piece de resistance was the gourmet breakfast prepared by our hosts -- upside down pancakes with pears from "my father's orchard." Wow!

Good location. Consistently good food and good surroundings. Rooms were a tad dark due to curtains and interior design but that was not a problem. Innkeepers were friendly and accessible but seemed a tad distracted or going too many directions simultaneously.

Not only was our room beautiful (and the breakfast delicious!!), but we received a very warm welcome. Our hosts were extremely accommodating. I would definitely recommend this B&B.

The Pansy Room is the cheapest room they have, and is a nice place to spend the night. The mattress is not great for two people though. The owners are nice, and the breakfast is superb.

Kara, Steve & kids are so welcoming! From the very first time we pulled up we knew that this was the place we wanted to have our wedding. We are from Albuquerque and once we entered the doors we kinda forget our surroundings. In the best way possible! We had our closest family here with us for the wedding. It was the best times of our lives. The Grant Family made our special day the very best. We wouldn't have changed a thing. Oh, and the breakfast was the very best! We would recommend this B&B to anyone! We can't wait until we can go back. This time spending a few extra days there.

We are so glad we chose your B&B. Our stay there was just delightful. We are all grandparents and we especially liked getting to know your family including your children. The breakfasts were a real treat and your accommadations for food allergies was excellent. We also liked your input on visiting sites around the area. We found them to be extremely helpful. The parlor made an excellent place for us to convene and plan our day's sightseeing. It was also a treat to be able to visit with the other guests coming and going through the parlor and at breakfast. I stayed in the Rosenberg Room for 2 nights and loved it! The Spy House is so convenient to UNM, it only took a few minutes to zip over for my meetings there. The breakfast was delicious and the coffee wonderful! I wholeheartedly recommend the Spy House!

My wife and I have stayed in B&B's across the country. NONE have made us feel more comfortable and at home. Kara and Steve and their family might just entice us to consider Albuquerque as a retirement choice. Wonderful place, even more wondeful people.

My husband and I were married out the Downtown Historic Bed & Breakfast of ABQ in May 2010. We filled up all three houses with our guests for the weekend. Kara and Steve were wonderful in so many ways! Kara helped me plan the ceremony and reception via phone and email as we live in Michigan. She is a wonderful wedding planner/coordinator, everything was utterly perfect and her local recommendations for catering, make-up, etc. were superb! Over the eight months we worked together to plan the event, we could not have asked for a better coordinator. The entire weekend Kara and Steve made sure everything ran smoothly and every detail was attended to, this in conjunction with running the B&B and keeping all of our guests happy and well fed. Our wedding guests loved the service, atmosphere, and the entire event. As far as the bed and breakfast, everything is beautifully decorated and maintained. Each of the rooms has a unique personality. The details in each room and throughout each house are impeccable. The grounds are also lovely, well suited for a quiet weekend with your spouse/partner, a family get-away, or a larger crowd like ours. The breakfasts were very tasty. We couldn't recommend them enough!

If hospitality is one of the characteristics of the inhabitants of Albuquerque, we would say that this is the all case of the Grant family and the Downtown Historic B&B. Steve and Kara, the hosts, are completely involved in the welcoming of their guests. Every morning they prepare sumptuous breakfasts with good cheer and generosity. They also take care not making the same menu every day. They spread themselves here and there for even the smallest attentions for their guests to make sure that they do not lack anything during the day (cookies, beverages, fresh fruits, etc). Both houses are quite spacious and we feel at home. The patio is pleasant and the neighborhood is quite. We have been charmed by the kindness of the whole family from the smallest to the biggest. We hope that we have been as good guests as they were perfect hosts. We advise all visitors being in the area to stop by the Grants and the Downtown Historic Bed and Breakfast

We truly enjoyed our 1-night stay at Spy House. Wish we could have enjoyed more than one night in this beautiful home (home with a history by the way). Kara and her family were very helpful, friendly and caring people. Because of the thunderstorms in the evening we were not able to enjoy the beautiful garden which was a real shame. The b&b is located a few minutes away (by car) from the old town and just a few steps from downtown. Breakfast is wonderful. Kara and Steve do an incredible job hosting guest. The rooms are tastfuly decorated and very clean. We can recommend the Spy House at anyone visiting Albuquerque. It is a home away from home.

Traveled with my 3 grown daughters and loved the separate Carriage house accommodations. Location gave us access to all the tourist activities. The Grants made us feel right at home. Definitely would go back.

I live in ABQ and haev housed several out of town guests at the Spy House. The owners, Steve and Kara Grant are friendly, hospitable and will treat you adn your guests like family. This is important to me as I am a theater artist in town and have guests visting to see my productions here. Their experience outside the theater is just as important to me as their time at the show. Steve and Kara have been an excellent part of those experiences. I highly recommend their B & B whether you are visiting from out of town or if you are an ABQ resident looking for a reliable and cozy place to host your guests!

This adds so richly to a vacation experience to be in the company of a very special family. Kara and Steve are over the top on meeting your needs. We stayed in the Spy House and were blown away by the talents of this family. They are both dynamo's in their own right. She not only is a gourmet cook but paints all the rooms lovely colors, makes some of the bedding and window coverings, plants flowers , takes care of the chickens and is an absolute delight. And she is very cute as my husband will testify to. Steve builds things, runs around doing all the projects of the properties, and is so personable. I had an emergency business need and he helped me meet that need and I am every so grateful. He offered a lot of good suggestions on what to see and do and where to dine in the area. This was the BEST B and B experience I ever had. I highly recommend. Its great! There must a reason its #1 in Albuquerque. And may I note the kids are adorable and home schooled. We have just spent a fantastic spring break in Albuquerque. The Ivy room in the Heritage house was perfect. Spotlessly clean and perfectly sized for 2 adults and 2 children. Steve and Kara were the perfect hosts - warm, friendly, welcoming and full of information to help make our vacation a huge success. The breakfasts were out of this world and kept us going for the whole day!! The highlight for my children was having the chance to play with Steve and Kara's 4 delightful children at the end of each day - firm friendships were formed and we look forward to returning sometime soon. Thanks so much to all of you!!

Steve and Kara and their children are wonderful hosts! I felt welcomed from the time I arrived. The houses are really nice and there is a beautiful backyard. Steve and Kara made delicious breakfasts every morning (even providing gluten-free foods for me!) and also left snacks and drinks in the dining room and the fridge throughout the day. The Spy House has a historic past. Steve and Kara renovated the entire house on their own. I loved my room with the "clawfoot" tub... so luxurious to bathe in! Steve even went out of his way to drive me to the convention center my first morning there when several inches of snow had fallen unexpectedly. I would stay here again and again if I had to come back to Albuquerque!

We had a wonderful time at the Heritage House B&B in Albuquerque in February 2010. Steve and Kara are attentive hosts and yet relaxed and comfortable in the roles to show guests the best of the city. We spent a couple of nights here before going to Santa FE and got great tips on Albuquerque sightseeing as well as Santa FE. Highly recommended.

Innkeepers were outstanding. The house was cozy and the room had space to relax in. We loved the snacks and beverages availably throughout the day.

The owners, Kara and Steve Grant did a wonderful job of making us feel welcome at this establishment. We were greated as if we were friends. THe food was outstanding and the little homemade baked delights were better than a bakery. The breakfast was just as if we were home. The room was so neat and clean with everything we could ask for and more. I would recommend the Spy House to anyone needing a get away or visiting. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED, it is a unique experience.

My wife and I have stayed here twice now. We highly recommend anyone visiting Albuquerque to stay here. The food is amazing and the hospitality of Kara, Steve and thier family was wonderful. The rooms were very comfortable and roomy. It is a beutiful place to stay and is not far from Nob Hill or Old Town.

I spent three nights at Spy House at Thanksgiving and it was all I had assumed it would be from reading about them online. My room was beautifully appointed, Steve and Kara were available (if necessary) and provided wonderful breakfasts and snacks. The house was conveniently located for me. I would definitely stay again!

This is a B&B not to be missed. Best beds ever, wonderful breakfasts and SUPER clean!! Thanks for seeing to all the details - the cookies/cheese and crackers were such a nice touch! Thank you Steve and Kara!

I stayed at the Heritage House on the weekend of October 24th. The home is lovely!!! It shows the care and attention to detail Steve and Kara have put in restoring the grounds. I was very impressed with the house and the hosts' hospitality. They were very accomodating. And the breakfast was flat out awesome! Happy travels!

We spent 4 days in the Rosenberg room of the Spyhouse portion of this B&B. It was clean, quiet, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast each day was delicious and generous. Our hosts were very warm, friendly and helpful with advice on the area. The central location made getting around a breeze. The best B&B we have experienced in our numerous travels.

We knew as soon as we meet Steve and Kara that we wanted to have our wedding at the Heritage House. We had such a beautiful wedding ceremony. They exceeded our expectations because they took care of so many of the details which helped our day be stress free. We are so glad we chose the Heritage House. Everything was perfect and we would recommend them to anyone.

We stayed in the Spy House for Balloon Fest weekend and had a blast. The rooms were private and clean with such a warm character and appeal. This B&B is run by a very sweet young family. They were both reliable and accomodating during our stay.

My husband and I stayed at the Spy House during the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. The innkeepers, Steve and Kara, are warm and personable. This historic house is clean and tastefully decorated. We stayed in the Rosenberg Room, which was romantic and spacious. A delicious breakfast was served in a timely manner, allowing us to begin our exploration of Santa Fe and Albuquerque bright and early.
