Whistling Swan Inn

My husband and I stayed there last weekend for a night to celebrate our anniversary. This place was extremely clean, the baked goods were delicious and the owners were a delight. For one night, we didn't want to travel too far and this turned out to be a delightful experience. I look forward to coming back in the summer or fall when there is a bit more to do (like the vineyards nearby :)

We really enjoyed our stay. The room was a bit cold. It was hard to figure out how to warm it up. But the jacuzzi was room and comfortable and the entire B&B was very relaxing. We would stay there again.

Our stay at the Whistling Swan Inn was very pleasant, relaxing, and completely satisfying. The house is beautiful and the rooms are elegantly decorated. The innkeepers are very hospitable, breakfast was delicious, and overall the service was great.

The Whistling Swam was simple exquisit and charmning. The web site photos where very accuate and the room we stayed in was extremely cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was tasty and the proprietor was very friendly. It was the perfect setting for a weekend getaway.

We used this as a get-away evening. We checked-in at 3:00, left the room once for dinner for an hour and once for breakfast for about 25 minutes. There isn't much to do in the winter around Stanhope, but the room was so pleasant that we felt no need to find anything more to do other than relax and just enjoy some unwind time. Rosa was great, the breakfast was great, and the experience was great! I've stayed in many hotels, but this was my first B&B. I'll do a B &B again, for sure!

My boyfriend and I decided to spend New Year's eve at the Inn. The innkeeper was delightful and really made us feel right at home. The room was beautiful and very tidy. The breakfast was pretty good as well. We wished we could have stayed longer. The only thing I'd love is for this place to have a later check-out time. A 12pm check out time would have made our stay even more enjoyable.

My husband and I took a trip to North Jersey for our 1st wedding anniversary--we had never stayed at a B&B before so we weren't sure what to expect but our stay was nothing short of relaxing, romantic, and fun. Our room was beautiful and so cozy. Roz was very friendly and accomodating. Her breakfasts were delicious, too! I hope that we have the opportunity to visit again. The harmony suite is amazing--2 bathrooms in the room, one with a jacuzzi tub, fire place and TV--perfect!

We had a great time even though it rained the whole time. Great place can't wait to go back in the summer!

I was looking for a special place near Lake Hopatcong to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. Googling the region brought the Whistling Swan Inn to my attention. We love Victorian houses and I was immediately charmed by the inn. However, we seldom have stayed in older B&B's because we want a king size bed, and most haven't had them. So I was delighted to find that several rooms here had King's. The quality of the accommodations and the renovations to the bathrooms have been done with great care and fit modern needs while preserving the graciousness and style of the Queen Ann period. Our room had a soaking tub and a fireplace- both amenities were wonderful. The owners are friendly and helpful and enjoyable to talk with.

This is a wonderful B&B set in Western NJ. We enjoyed our hosts who were very friendly and very helpful. The breakfasts were outstanding! Our room was very comfortable and we could not have asked for anything more. All thanks to owners, Ros and Tom Bruno. Mary

It was ten years or more ago the last time we stayed at the Whistling Swan. Things are quite the same even with new owners -Great. Having the romantic package even made it more special. Love this place.

My wife and I love the fact that we were able to plan a getaway weekend without having to drive too far. The Innkeepers were very friendly and the Breakfast was awesome. We stayed in the Stillwater Mini Suite and it was very relaxing - The King size bed was extremely comfortable. Lots of fun stuff to do close by as well. Thumbs up!!!

We chanced upon the Whistling Swan Inn when we wanted to do a quick getaway, mini-honeymoon on the weekend we were married, as we wouldn't be going on our true honeymoon to St. Thomas for a while. We loved the inn, and have stood there traditionally now for 8 straight Columbus day weekends (and never desired to return to the Virgin islands, btw), and stayed for2 other times in between anniversaries, as well. We could not imagine our anniversary weekend not being spent there. Liz the innkeeper is wonderful, and we love the Victorian feel, as well as all the nice restaurants, fall foliage, and activities available in the beautiful areas near Stanhope. Highly recommended!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Whistling Swan Inn. The accomodations where excellent, the breakfast was delicious, the service was great, and the recommendation of a restaurant for dinner was perfect. We will return if the opportunity to travel in New Jersey presents itself again.

Great place. Had a wonderful time. Stayed in the lower priced room. Room was very small but quaint. No closet and mattress was super hard. Rest of the house was amazing though. Felt right at home. Beautifully decorated.

We had a wonderful, last minute stay at this inn. The room was lovely, our hosts were interesting and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious! A relaxing time spent in the garden with water fountain and a good book. We visited nearby Waterloo Village and experienced a tasting and tour at the Four Sisters Winery. A return to this lovely part of New Jersey and the Swan will be planned.

My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night. We called ahead to let them know we'd arrive late as it was a Friday night wedding. Upon arrival, we managed to get in. I slowly made my way up the stairs while my husband ran back to the car to get the bags. As I got to the top of the stairs, the male owner called up the stairs to me. I thanked him for the instructions on how to get in. He made a rude comment about how we should lock his house up. I realize he didn't know that my husband was still outside but I still think he could've done better at being friendly. --- The room was comfortable enough but not worth the money we paid in comparison to similar places we've stayed in. The ceiling fan rattled a lot when you put it on the high setting. It made me rather nervous. The room was very clean. --- The breakfast was excellent and the woman who cooked very amiable. --- I would recommend this to a friend but warn them that it is very pricey for what you get.

The Whistling Swan is a nice place if you are planing on escaping from the everyday rush for a couple of days. The house is tastefully decorated and Liz, the innkeeper, has really put a lot of effort in making sure that the decor is true to the era in which the house was built. The breakfasts are amazing as well as the cookies and brownies that Liz has on hand all the time in the dining room. The wrap around porch is a pleasant place to sit and have breakfast and listen to the water fountain in the beautiful garden it overlooks. There are lots of nice restaurants in the area, however, there isn't much else to do unless you want to go hiking. Again, this is a perfect place if your intention is to get away for a couple of days for a romantic weekend and do nothing but relax and enjoy some good food.

This is a great find! We were extremely happy to arrive safely there after the hurricane Irene the night before. We were greeted by Liz and enjoyed wonderful treats with the wine/cheese basket and choc covered strawberries. I thought it was really nice she had an area for snacks, homemade cookies, well stocked fridge with water and sodas and teas and coffee. The room was fantastic and we didn't need to ask for anything...b/c it was already there! Definitely going to plan another longer stay in the near future! Nancy & Paul

It was a beautiful, well-kept house and we were made to feel very comfortable.

We stayed in the High Point Suite and it was an amazing room. With amenities like a whirlpool tub, steam shower, and Queen Size Bed, we had a fabulous time. The sink was a little on the small side, but we managed just fine. The only real issue was some fruit flies crawling on the blanket at the base of the bed. The Inn Keeper came immediately and took care of the issue. The food was great, and the complementary beverages, snacks, and DVD library were very impressive. We would definitely make a return trip, finances and time permitting...

We enjoyed our stay at this B&B. Located close to several hiking trails and a great restaurant called Bells Mansion. The town itself doesn't offer much so plan on getting in the car to do most of your activities. 35 minutes from Bushkill falls which is totally worth the trip! We enjoyed sitting sunning ourselves and napping on the side yard one day there. Very peaceful.

From the moment we walked into the Whistling Swan for the first time, we were satisfied. Not only was the service good, the room inviting and comfortable, the plumbing perfect and the food excellent, but the design and decor of the entire inn gave great aesthetic pleasure. I loved the beautiful decorating scheme of each room, as well as the swan theme that was maintained throughout the inn, in a tasteful manner.

My fiancee and I wanted a night away from the busy everyday life. We chose the Whistling Swan because there were plenty of outdoor activities to do there. We enjoyed our stay there very much. The room was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. It was definitely the break we needed and we are looking forward to going back to Whistling Swan.

We loved our stay at the WSI. The staff was friendly and helpful--and they weren't even the owners, they were watching the inn for the week. The rooms were beautiful and clean, and we enjoyed the complimentary snacks and dvd library. The grounds were well kept and beautiful. Everything was perfect, and we are looking forward to coming again. We definitely recommend this wonderful B&B!

We compare every B & B we stay at to the Whistling Swan. Very few live up to our experience. The food is wonderful, the rooms comfortable, the inn-keepers friendly and knowledgeable about the area. It's a great place to kick back and relax or enjoy the many area activities.

My husband and I recently stayed there for a night away from our three year old. The inn is comfortable and friendly, with nice touches like homemade cookies, coffee, water and soda always available, and a great DVD library. We were really just looking to relax so we mostly stayed at the inn, and enjoyed the quiet and our in room jacuzzi tub. We did venture out for dinner. It was a great summer night, and we were able to walk to the restaurant and enjoy dinner on their deck. Breakfast of homemade blueberry pancakes on the porch was perfect. I would highly reccomend!

Absolutely loved staying at the Whistling Swan Inn, Stanhope, NJ. Liz was truly lovely and a wonderful hostess.

My husband and I don't get away on our own very much, but wanted to do something special for our anniversary this year. I looked around online and came across the Whistling Swan, it was not too far from home and the prices were very reasonable. We booked a stay for one night and purchased the Romance Package. Liz and Bill were wonderful, we had the most fun conversing with them. We had dinner at Bell's Mansion which was also a tremendous value, I had lobster tail a shrimp pasta, my husband had the seared ahi tuna and we shared the satay trio...very good. The inn was very cozy we hung out downstairs for awhile before settling down for the night. Our room was just perfect for us and we both got a great nights rest. The morning brought Liz's amazing breakfast of blueberry crisp french toast, spinich quiche bacon and fresh coffee. We enjoyed our experience so much we hope to return again in the fall. Thanks Liz and Bill for making our stay so enjoyable!

It is still much better than motels.. but there are other bnb places way better than this. breakfast is ok with not-at-all fresh fruits. I had the same menu for 3 days except for waffle for one day and pancake for the other, like that. but same bacon, same cereal, same bad fruits, same egg pop pie... Host is kind but you barely see her. pretty much you just go there to sleep although you can hang out in the common room, but there's no tv in the common area.. you don't really get to sit with the host and other guests to talk about what's around and stuff...

We loved our stay at the Whistling Swan Inn! It was a quaint, quiet place to stay with a wonderful Innkeeper and amazing food. The room was nice and comfortable-nothing outstanding but a good room. We stayed in The Tranquility Room, where they very recently replaced the old clawfoot tub with a brand new one, which is wonderful and also works as a shower. The best part of our stay was the wraparound porch with the chairs and hammock which we enjoyed while eating fresh cookies and coffee and the breakfast, which we also enjoyed out on the porch. Great place!

We visited the Whistling Swan again to celebrate our anniversary. The rooms are beautiful and the property and gardens are a must see. Very romantic and relaxing.

Wonderful B&B! It's a lovely, peaceful setting. The breakfast was fantastic, and we also appreciated the homemade cookies, chocolate, and drinks available throughout the day. Definitely recommend it.

We've stayed at the Whistling Swam on numerous trips over the past four years while our daughter was in college nearby. Innkeeper Liz Armstrong is always accommodating and treats us like we are visiting her home. Her breakfasts are terrific, the rooms are beautiful and the location is great. We've stayed in at least half of the rooms and all are comfortable. Liz makes you feel welcome, enjoys our company and we enjoy hers. The porch is a great place to just sit and relax with friends. A computer for guests, homemade cookies at all times, drinks and snacks make it an easy and beautiful place to stay. We'll be back even though our daughter has now graduated!

The Whistling Swan was a great bed & breakfast. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the place. The staff was friendly and the room was comfortable. There were complimentary drinks and snacks available at all times which was great to have so we were not spending extra money on bottled water. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend The Whistling Swan to anyone looking for a romantic bed & breakfast weekend get-a-way.

This is my first visit to Whistling Swan Inn, and I find it outstanding. All sorts of drinks - water, soft drinks, wine etc - are complimentary all day long, and the pastry/cookies included are excellent. The room is delicately decorated, the common areas are very nice and convenient, and the deck and garden are very nice. It is an excellent choice.

We are veteran B&Bers and found Whistling Swan somewhat lacking. Our room didn't have any opening windows. The orientation of the furniture was odd and we couldn't see the TV from the bed. No nightstand or reading light on one side of the bed. One of the faucet handles was missing from the jacuzzi. We looked at all the rooms and didn't find any that were really great. Plus, it's in the middle of nowhere.

We deal with a large number of guests at the inn, and, as you can see by our other reviews, we usually do an excellent job satisfying them. We are, however, aware that sometimes a guest's expectations are not met, and we like to view an unsatisfactory stay as an opportunity to improve our overall guest experience. There are two operating windows in the High Point Suite -- the architectural windows in the turret are from 1905 and are for decoration only. This is the first time we have received a complaint about the TV. It is a large 32" flat panel TV, placed directly in front of the bed for optimal viewing. A part of the jacuzzi handle was removed because it had become a safety issue -- guests would lean on it while getting out of the tub and it would break off. The change is merely cosmetic, as the remaining part of the handle can be turned easily. We have removed the same part from the other handle to eliminate any incongruity. Though we may not be located in an urban area, there are plenty of things to do in our area, such as outdoor sports of all types, wineries, movies and live theatre, and shopping(antiquing, boutique, outlet malls, shopping malls). We also have many fine restaurants in the area, some within walking distance and NJ’s finest jazz and blues club on our street. My wife and I try to get away twice a year, but don't like to spend half the weekend travelling. What a great find in the Whistling Swan - and only 45 minutes from home! It's located in a quiet residential area, but close enough to the highways and within walking distance of a great restaurant. The inn is nicely appointed and the oak fireplaces and woodwork in the foyer, parlors, and dining room are gorgeous. The inn has a great wraparound porch with plenty of seating - great for reading, snoozing, or eating Chinese takeout while overlooking the garden! The only disappointment was the size of our room (the Morris Canal). Not terrible, but it turns out that it is the smallest room at the inn - we learned this when the innkeeper let us view the vacated rooms before we left on Sunday. The rest of the rooms are amazing, even those on the third floor were surprisingly roomy and very interesting. We will definitely be returning to TWS in the future for another romantic getaway. -C&P

My daughter and I had a college tour scheduled for the Hackettstown area - we did not want to stay at a hotel. Bed and Breakfast stays are always much nicer. We stayed at the Whistling Swan Inn and immediately fell in love with the place. It was decorated in Victorian style, the innkeeper was so friendly, the room was clean and very beautiful. The bed was so comfortable! The breakfast was delicious. All in all I highly recommend the Whistling Swan Inn.

Our stay at the Whistling Swan Inn in Stanhope, NJ was absolutely lovely. My husband has a gluten/wheat allergy which makes our desire to stay at unknown places very unlikely. Ms. Armstrong guaranteed that she could make a breakfast especially for him. The best part was that Michael even received homemade gluten-free cookies upon our arrival. What a special touch. We enjoyed staying in the nice quiet part of the house. Taking time to enjoy some rest and relaxation was exactly what we needed. I especially enjoyed being able to take a relaxing bath in the footed tub. Thanks for an enjoyable evening away.

The room was very small and kind of cramped. Otherwise a nice house, but not really anything special about it.

My husband and I had a getaway for 3 days at Whistling Swan Inn, it was an amazing experience, we spent most of the time in the room, and still wanted to extend our stay, it's just relazing. The Innkeeper was not there, but Rose and John had been a really nice innkeeper during our stay, we will definitely go back there sometime soon.

The innkeepers were welcoming and friendly. The rooms were lovely and very well appointed, big comfy beds and fantastic showers. The breakfast was, by far, the best part of the stay. I would definitely come again.

Our anniversary is in March, so the weather is always questionable.... but, Thunder-Snow? Couldn't have thought of a better place to ride out the storm (the homemade chocolate chip cookies helped)! Can't wait to return next year for our annual anniversary get-away!

Buffet breakfast is the way to go with a B&B so you don't have to wake up at a particular time.

Good: Rocking chairs on the porch, room & bath were beautiful, bed comfy. Nice touches: free wi-fi & computer in common parlor, in-room fridge & fireplace, bev. station w/ice, snacks, & Keurig, sherry & newspaper. avail. 24 hours. Bell's Mansion-close, w/ good/uneven service/food & BAD singer. GREAT music at Stanhope House. Dinner & GOOD singer-Salt-Byram; good lunch-Krave-Newton. Good antiquing-Blue Heron-Stanhope, Scranberry Coop & other stores-Andover. Not So Good: Every stay has glitches, yet more than a few together, added up. An e-mail re: nearby restaurant answered w/o an offer to make reservation or if we’d need one. The site mentions they do this, but opportunity to accept or turn down offer never came. We’d mentioned celebrating 2 special occasions in our reservation (granted, w/out requesting anything be done) but it was never even mentioned during stay. In-room fridge not plugged in (discovered after leftovers were warm next day). Dim bedside lamp was fixed by handing us a different bulb. TV cables for the DVD player were wired incorrectly, the room’s handmade “Do Not Disturb” sign was broken so we couldn’t hang it, the bathroom window was left open after the room cleaning & fluffy robes mentioned on the site for each room were nowhere to be found. Fireplace in the common room was never utilized (nor offered, though it was about 26 degrees & snowing). The address of a restaurant in their guide was incorrect – they’d moved & the info hadn’t been updated. We spent 20 mins. looking & had to ask a Sheriff for directions. When we brought this to the Innkeeper’s attention, it wasn’t acknowledged. Main seating for the first day’s breakfast was unavailable; we took plastic ware & small plates into another room to fend for ourselves. The Innkeeper found us after a few minutes & we were given a hot breakfast, still in the other room. Overall, Innkeepers were polite & cordial, yet we never experienced the "warm & fuzzy" vibe we’ve had at other B&B's.

We were looking for a quiet place to stay for the weekend. When we arrived, the innkeeper, Liz warmly greeted us. We are b and b ers and travel about to different inns. Whistling Swan is the best we've experience. There are so many little extras, for example a fully stocked snack bar, a computer, a video library and large comfortable sitting rooms!! Plus the breakfast was A-1!!!!

My Husband and I stayed here for three nites and boy , it was quiet , just what we wanted ....Everyone was friendly and breakfast was great ... Liz is a great cook..Her husband provided lively conversation at the table along with a few laughs.. Unfornately we had to leave early due to our son being sick and they had no problems charging us for only the time we spent with no questions asked .. While Stanhope isn't a dream vacation spot, this house sure is! It really is beautiful. My wife and I stayed in the High Point room... a two-room suite with a jacuzzi tub and a separate steam shower. The fireplace in the jacuzzi area wasn't working so they took $20 off the rate, which I thought was very nice. Great hosts, spotless house, nice breakfast... super gettaway.

...everything was great, the room, the common areas, the food and the service. Innkeeper Liz was very nice and interesting to chat with. The only issue I had all weekend was the room lighting, all bright, no soft lighting. If that's my only complaint, it must have been pretty good!

Rooms were beautiful and the sheets were so soft and comfy. I was a bit disapointed with the breakfast. I thought the breakfast would be more of a gourmet type breakfast and it was ordinary.Overall, a great stay

I'm so happy that I found this inn! There were so many positives to our stay. The hospitality was beyond 5 star, especially breakfast! The housekeeper is an amazing cook. We stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite and the room was what we though it would be and more. The location is great as well because it's central to alot of towns that have a great variety of things to do. In this day and age it's great to find a place that cares alot about the small stuff. I can't recommend this inn enough!

My husband and I have stayed at the Whistling Swan twice now - most recently, over Christmas 2010. It is such a beautiful old home, and the Christmas decorations were lovely! The breakfasts are superb - a real treat! Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel welcomed and totally "at home." We can't wait to come back and stay there again!! Our anniversary and my wife's birthday fall in December so we went in the cold. The room was impeccably clean, cozy, and comfortable. The night at the Whistling Swan was very relaxing for us. The innkeeper was friendly and made us feel at home. My wife and I enjoyed reading the notes in the book in the room from previous guests. We look forward to spending another night at the Whistling Swan during warmer weather.

Had a getaway weekend planned for my husband's 50th which included a one night stay at the Whistling Swan. Liz and her husband are excellent innkeepers, friendly and hospitable. The inn was beautifully decorated and very clean. Walking in you gives you a warm and relaxing feeling. I would definitely stay here again. Kudos to Liz on and outstanding breakfast. The Whistling Swan Inn in Stanhope, New Jersey is a beautiful Victorian inn in a picturesque setting. Replete with stunning turn of the century antiques, this mansion boasts modern bathrooms with state-of-the-art fixtures. The sitting room and dining room are beautifully decorated and feature stained glass windows. The professional, friendly staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home and serves up delicious breakfasts that should be featured on the Rachel Ray Show! What a wonderful time we had. Whistling Swann was all that I could have imagined and much more. The room was tastefully decorated, the bed was extremely comfortable and the fireplace and jacuzzi were great extra additions. I will definitely return for another stay in the Walnut Valley Suite.

A very nice historic B&B in an interesting location. The Staff is particularly helpful. We definitely recommend it to anyone as a good value and excellent accomodation.

I went this past weekend just as a semi-romantic get away with my girlfriend and added the honeymoon package, which comes with wine, roses, choc covered strawberries etc. I had a request instead of roses to try and get an edible arrangement for me. No problem to difficult for them, they had everything ready for us at our 3pm check-in. The breakfast was amazing plenty of choices. The innkeepers are very sweet reminds me of back home in the south. Will return here highly recommended.

Very, very clean rooms. Good breakfast hosted by very pleasant lady. Well organized operation overall. Extremely comfortable king bed. Shower a little weak but it did the job. A good value.

The Whistling Swan Inn is a lovely Victorian B&B. It is impecably maintained, very relaxing, has excellent breakfasts and very personal service. Beatiful and a great value. Lots of things to do in the area and close to nice restaurants too.

My husband and I enjoyed the retro atmosphere of the place and especially the amenities of the room and the complementary additions that were included. Thanks to Liz, we had a tasteful, homemade breakfast and we left the place relaxed and satisfied.

We took the High Point Suite for just one night, as we needed a getaway. I got the romantic package, which was a good deal because of the Dinner gift certificate. I was a little disappointed with the champagne bottle we got. The room was fantastic, though.

We didn't know what to expect when we drove up to the B&B despite the review we read in the "Select Registry" book. It turned out to be a lovely inn (even though we are not big fans of victorian buildings) with a beautiful garden and porch and very comfortable rooms with great beds and pillows that exceeded those in comfort that we have found in much more expensive inns and B&Bs. The owner, Liz, is a very good host. If you are the Stanhope area we highly recommend the Whistling Swan Inn.

We went to stay at the Inn for a night to get away from everything and it was just that!! The room was spectacular and clean and Liz welcomed up with open arms. She helped us decide on a restaurant for dinner and what to do the next day before we left, she was soooo helpful. The breakfast in the morning was delicious accompanied by great conversation! I would definitely go back and stay at the Inn again!!

Our lives only allow us a one night get-away. When we discovered the Whistling Swan, we knew we had found a place where we could escape and all our worries would instantly melt away. Good food. Great, comfortable rooms with just-right amenities. The porch- a great place to eat breakfast and plan out the day. Our host and hostess are wonderful and left us tasty snacks and beverages to complete our day. Just a really nice place to stay, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

I chose to bring my significant other to the inn on a mini vacation...he was so amazed and we had a wonderful time. We arrived early so we took a drive around the lake and we even got lost - that was so much fun as the scenery was beautiful. Everything was there at our disposal and we were very pleased. The staff was great and very friendly.

My husband and I wanted to celebrate our wedding aniversary in a quite setting away from NYC, and the Whistling Swan Inn, was a perfect place to relax. The Inn is charming, the breakfast was delicious the innkeepers were on vacation and the Temp Innkeepers Rosie and John were great and made us feel comfortable. The room we stayed in the Lenape was very clean the bathroom big and nice,the bed very comfortable. The only thing that was a little uncomfortable was the celing it had a low slope and evertime you moved around the room you would bang your head it was the last room available at the time still happy I visited. I would definitely go back and try another room and meet Liz Armstrong.

The innkeeper was on vacation during our stay. I think we would have been given more information on the area and what to do if she had been there. Also, we think we would have received a little more attention if she had been there. The couple watching the inn were very nice, but didn't know the area very well and didn't engage in much conversation.

A friend of ours recommended the Whistling Swan Inn to us. It was one of the best B&B's that we've stayed in. Our room, The Walnut Suite was absolutely beautiful and very romantic. Our breakfasts were scrumptuous- the first morning we had fresh blueberry french toast (not made with bread) with real maple syrup, the second morning was a delicious quiche, and, our third morning was made to order pancakes- I had my favorite, blueberry pancakes and my husband had plain pancakes- served with the real maple syrup. Snacks in the afternoon were terrific- crisp, fresh chocolate chip cookies, and, blueberry crumb bars. The innkeeper, Liz Armstrong was extremely helpful in advising places to visit - an indoor antique mall, park with an easy walking trail, and, the Lakota Wolf Preserve. We had a wonderful time. We also walked on the boardwalk in Sparta, only about 20 minutes away. Liz, also, suggested places for dinner, and took care of our reservations. The inn was an absolutely terrific place to spend our 45th wedding anniversary. We will definitely recommend the Whistling Swan Inn and are looking forward to returning there. Gave my husband a weekend getaway for Christmas, and used it now at Whistling Swan Inn (7/17-7/18/2010). What a beautiful, quaint, romantic, comfortable place to stay. We stayed at the High Point Suite, pictured on this site. The Jacuzzi was most relaxing, the robes were soft and comfortable, and the room was just gorgeous! But in addition to all the personal touches and attention to detail, the Innkeeper, Liz and her husband Bill were super great! The breakfast was delicious, we enjoyed it out on the wrap-around porch, and it just added to the excitement! The staff was very helpful, and courteous. My daughter and I stayed at the WS for a weekend and loved it! The first night we stayed in the Waterloo Village room. It was wonderful! The second night we stayed in the Tranquility room, which was much smaller, but still very nice. Also loved the location of the Inn, within walking distance of excellent dining and antique shops.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Highpoint Suite and loved it! We wanted to have a nice quiet weekend getaway and this place was ideal for that. The Inn Keeper (Liz) was extremely accomodating and resourceful - actually she's wonderful!! We mentioned at breakfast that we wanted to try out a local water park and before we were finished eating, she came back with a print out of the location and other info on the park. Whatever you do...don't miss breakfast! it's a delicious way to start any day at the Inn - be sure to try the blueberry french toast! We liked the fact that when we got in from spending the day out that there were all sorts of tasty treats left out for us by Liz. Be sure to take time to sitting in the rocking chairs on the veranda or take a stroll up the block to Bell's Mansion for lunch or dinner (staff is great and food is delicious). We absolutely loved this place and plan on going back!

my husband brought me here for my birthday/babymoon. it was fantastic! Liz is such a great host and everything was superb!

As I write this I am sitting in a most comfortable rocking chair, enjoying a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee on a beautiful wrap arround porch. My wife and I had the pleasure of staying in the Morris Canal room, to celebrate our third anniversary. The service is as most have said, impeccable yet not invasive. It feels more like a home and less like a hotel. Highly recommend this to anyone needing a break from the over-stimulus of modern life. Will definitely be back, hopefully before our fourth anniversary! -John & Samantha

We stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite which was a beautiful room. It included his and hers bathrooms, a jacuzzi tub and fireplace. Our only regret was that it wasn't warmer when we were there so we could have eaten our breakfast on the beautiful wrap around porch. The nearby Bell's Mansion was recommend by our hosts for dinner. It was another beautiful old home within walking distance where we had a wonderful dinner. I would highly recommend both places.

This was a beautiful inn in Stanhope, NJ. We stayed on the third floor in the High Pointe suite which was quiet, nicely decorated and had a nice-sized jacuzzi. Breakfast was delicious. We didn't do much in Stanhope itself but used the inn as our base to go hiking and rock scrambling in the nearby state parks and the Delaware Water Gap. The hosts were VERY helpful in planning our days and evenings.

I surprised my boyfrined last Saturday with a trip to the Whistling Swan. It was just what we needed, a quiet , romanctic night away from the hussle of life. The room was excellent and the inn was very nicely decorated. The 2 person jacuzzi was awesome - we could have spent all night there. Can't wait to return.

I took my husband to the WSI for his birthday weekend. We were both surprised at all the little touches that went into making our stay a memorable trip. This was our first B&B visit, but it will not be our last. The food was great, it reminded you of being home and the rooms were outstanding!!!. This place was great. My nephew got married at the Inn the last friday in August. It rained that whole day but the Sun shined bright on the lovely couple that day. We had the wedding on the porch and everyone was all smile. It was a sight to behold. His brother made the special trip from California to be present at this affair. We had the whole house and it felt like it was our own. The wedding party stayed and well as the couples parents and me his Aunt. The breakfast was excellent we had had Blueberry French Toast. I would love to stay again.

Nice, mellow, helpful (but not invasive) innkeepers? Check. Gorgeous setting and grounds that belie the suburban Jersey address? Check. Nice, well appointed common areas? Check. Easily accessible snack area with complimentary chips, cookies, water and soft drinks? Check. Spacious, clean, comfortable room with all of the amenities I could ask for? Check. A good, satisfying breakfast? Check. Significantly nicer, more relaxing, and more comfortable than a typical hotel for not much more $? Check. Roughly an hour away from Brooklyn? Check. I like this place. Highly recommended.

Amazing is an overused word, but that is exactly how I felt nearly the entire time we were here. My wife & I had a break-away-from-the-kids trip. This place is near wineries, historic sites, and antiquing. But returning in the evenings to the hospitality of this place was priceless!

We enjoyed the Swan and the town. The room was cozy, staff was helpful, and the late night cookies were delish!

I stayed in the High Point room with my fiance back in December for our 3 year anniversary. A beautiful room. Love love love LOVE the white fluffy robes they provide and the steam showers are AMAZING! Whooohoooo ;). The cookies and the snack bar are definitely a plus and the whole atmosphere of the house is great. I wasn't absolutely crazy about the breakfast, but it was still good and an enjoyable addition to my stay there. I hope to come back sometime in the near future!

We had a nice stay with 2 other couples. The breakfast was delicious and Liz is warm, welcoming, and very capable innkeeper. Would go again!

Since the Inn's bikes would not fit in my SUV, Bill took time out from his busy day to drive my wife and I with the bikes to a portion of the Sussex Branch Trail where he knew we would enjoy the ride. Service beyond expectations!

Family converged from all over the country for a family event in West Orange, several of us settling in at The Whistling Swan. We all found it to be worthy of it being called "one of the 10 best B & B's in the country." All rooms were cozy, impeccably clean and each unique. The breakfasts were wonderful and our interim innkeepers went out of their way to insure our stay would be memorable: our first night we all arrived at varying times and they opened the dining room for us all to eat take out; helped our "guests" feel welcome while we sat in the front parlour catching up; made it feel like home with a glass of sherry by the fireplace on a windy night before heading to bed. We've all decided this was not to be our last visit to the Whistling Swan.

My boyfriend and I went there to celebrate our two year anniversary. We stayed in the Great Meadow room. The room was cozy and immaculate. We loved the homemade breakfasts every morning, especially the caramel french toast. The food was so tasty we bought the cookbook. Liz and Bill were warm and friendly. My partner and I had our civil union there, and the innkeeper Liz and Bill were so accommodating. The room (we had th walnut suite) was beautiful and impeccably clean. We loved the jacuzzi and the late night snacks. Liz is an excellent cook, I had the best carmelized french toast casserole I ever tasted! This place is a class act, I would definitely visit again. This is a victorian gem on a pretty tree lined street, we ate near by at The Black Forest Inn, we loved it!

This was our first stay at a B&B. We ordered the Romance Package as well as in-room massages. The entire Inn is intricately decorated and its serene ambiance made for a very relaxing, romantic weekend. Liz is a very welcoming, accomodating hostess...we couldn't get enough of her fresh-baked goodies.

It was my husband's birthday, and we needed a get-a-way from our busy lives. This is the first weekend we've every spent away from our daughter, let alone at a B&B. We liked it so much (going away AND staying at a b&b) that I think we've just started a new hobby! We stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite, which was very luxurious and decadent-yet warm and cozy, too. We enjoyed the romance that the room inspires, nibbled on Liz's chocolate covered strawberries,sipped our chilled champagne, settled in front of the fire with our books, bathed in the whirlpool tub several times a day, took a walk to the bookstore and enjoyed the quiet. We initially came for valentine package that included a Kathy Philips Band performance and gourmet dinner, but our experience was so wonderful I think we'll come again with or without a package special! The highlight of our day, every day, was breakfast. Liz is a fabulous cook. Simply delicious. Also, the valentine special was such a DEAL! It was $55 per person and the meal was a gourmet 4 course dinner made by Liz. We were in heaven!! And we didn't have to drive to a restaurant to get there! All of this in the Whistling Swan parlor. We dined on friday night at a local French restaurant called Silver Springs Farm. Very charming and romantic, and the venison was exquisite! The service was superb. When the waitress found out it was my husband's birthday, she brought out a little dessert with a lit candle and a small gift for each of us. It was quite reasonable, even with the award-winning wine Jacqueline (the owner) recommended. It was perfect! Last of all, I just want to thank Bill and Liz for our wonderful weekend. It was nice talking with Bill. He is so nice and friendly and warm! Liz was a superb hostess. She provided anything we needed, cooked exquisite meals, and let us enjoy our time alone. We will definitely come back!

Words cannot describe my stay at the Whistling Swan Inn. It was above and beyond my expectations. The room was gorgeous, the snacks were yummy, the hospitality incredible and the breakfast delicious! We had dinner at Windlass, and it was awesome. I could not have asked for a better weekend. I will definitely go back. I think Spring or Fall would be a wonderful time to enjoy all the scenery and activities at the nearby locations. Patty & Nate

The room was good and the inn beautiful, but what was it with the breakfast? You could do much better at McDonald's!-change the name to Bed-No Breakfast!

Although the Whistling Swan has received 100's of great reviews from our guests indicating their stay exceeded their expectations I am saddened that the guest who wrote this review was unhappy about our breakfast. Guests rave about my homemade breakfasts. They are prepared fresh each morning and include a hot entrée, side dish such as bacon, sausage, or home fries, fruit dish, two different fresh baked sweet breads, homemade granola, etc. Guests often tell me that they use my recipes from my cookbook for their own brunches. If you had let me know about your unhappiness I would have tried to make it right and perhaps have comped you the night. Although I know it may be impossible to make some guests happy that is my mission because that's what Innkeepers do.

My partner and I stayed in the High Point Suite for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday. It was truly the most relaxed we've been in years. I've only stayed in a few B&Bs, so I'm still getting used to the differences between hotels and B&Bs. The High Point Suite has a quirky set up but is truly cozy and romantic. We thoroughly enjoyed the tub and the fireplace. The bed was super comfy and the ceiling in the bedroom was so beautiful to look at. The steam shower was an added plus! Since it's a bit into the off season, there were very few guests there and we got to peek into most of the other rooms. All quaint, all beautiful. We've already decided we'll be trying the Walnut Valley Suite next time! True - the old fashioned skeleton key for our room was a bit difficult to use. I think maybe the lock in the door might be a little loose. However, there is a certain charm that goes along with using a skeleton key! Breakfasts were super yummy. One morning we had some sort of caramel french toast casserole (I know that's not the right name, Liz! Sorry!) which was beyond delicious. The next morning we had a broccoli and cheese quiche. Very tasty, very cheesey! The cookie jar always had nummy chocolate chip cookies to munch on and the fridge downstairs was always stocked with soda and water. Easy access to the computer made deciding where to go for dinner a snap. We went to Barone's (truly fine food!) and Black Forest Inn (great seafood buffet). Barone's had fantastic desserts - a must "take back to the room" to eat after soaking in the huge tub! Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay at this Inn and are looking forward to going back again sometime this winter. Thanks, Liz and Bill! It was nice to see a 1900's mansion completely restored to it's original beauty as well as some 21st century upgrades like the hot tubs, wireless internet, in room LCD TVs and ipod room radios. Also, it is very convenient to fine dining and beautiful setting.

My husband and I were recently married at the Inn. Liz was very accomodating and did all the catering. We rented out the whole Inn and all had a wonderful time. Breakfast was delicious!

WE loved our visit to Netcong, NJ and the Whistling Swan! Our room was quaint and comfortable, with all of the amenities and 'necessities' of a regular hotel- and much more besides! This was my first stay at a B&B and I am hooked! Liz and Alice were so friendly and accomodating. The inn is a showplace - rooms with names and a lovely Victorian garden. I especially loved the old world charm and the modern conveniences offered (the TVs have embroidered covers with noise reminders). Can't wait to book another B&B.

A beautiful place for a weekend getaway!

We just got back from a long weekend at The Whistling Swan Inn for our 4h wedding anniversary. The inn is beautiful and Liz and her staff could not have made us feel more welcome. Breakfast on the beautiful wrap around porch was so relaxing and her food was wonderful. My husband couldn't get over the brownies that were put out one afternoon. The location is perfect as you are in the middle of breathtaking state parks and quaint towns. I can't wait to go back.

My wife and I do not frequent B&Bs, but we felt that this one exceeded the standards of many hotels in which we have stayed. The place is SPOTLESS, literally. Every detail is attended to by the innkeeper. It is extremely impressive to see that they noticed everything. The inn even lends out bicycles to ride in the area. In summary, we highly recommend this great place.
