Whistling Swan Inn

A great place for us to duck out of the hustle & bustle of life and get away! Plenty of state parks in the area for hiking, biking, beautiful scenery or antique shops & good restaurants...or comfortable rooms to just stay in and relax with jacuzzi tubs, fireplaces, wifi, & DVD players! Great breakfasts & plenty of all day drinks & snacks! Our four day stay went way too quickly! Would definitely come back!

This was my first time staying at bed and breakfast and The Whistling Swan Inn exceeded my expectations. The inn was set in the quiet and historic Stanhope. It was the perfect setting for a perfect weekend getaway. There were a plethora of wonderful activities to take part in and the innkeepers were really helpful in finding us things to do in the area. The service was spectacular and the inn made all of its guests feel welcome and invited. I look forward to staying at this again in the future for another weekend getaway or perhaps longer.

A wonderfully friendly host full of information about what to do in the area; Very well kept inn with lovely Victorian charm. Very clean and well appointed rooms. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone passing through the north central New Jersey area..

All in all, a wonderful experience--would recommend for a great weekend getaway.

The Whistling Swan offers warm and cozy, clean and comfortable overnight accommodations. We were very pleased with our overnight stay.

We went on trip advisor and counted on the kindness of strangers to help us decide on a great bed and breakfast for a vacation. As soon as we arrived, Ros was friendly and accomodating. The lobby is open and delicious aromas of baking cookies fill the air. She showed us to the common area where teas, coffees, homemade cookies and other treats await the hungry guest. A water cooler stands ready to fill your cups, and a mini-fridge is filled with soda and other drinks guests can take at no charge. There is always a bottle of sherry sitting out for those interested, and some m & m's in a dispenser to snack on. The room we stayed in, the Walnut Valley Suite, was spacious, clean and inviting. We only peaked at other rooms, so I won't speak for them, except to assume they are at least as clean and well stocked. Breakfast in the morning was so good, with certain staples, but then always a special something cooking in the kitchen. Overall, it was relaxing and rejuvenating for us and we would definitenly go back. Ros and Tom understand what it means to be an innkeeper!

We were looking for a romantic weekend away, that wasn't too far from home,and The Whistling Swann Inn was just what we had in mind. We stayed in the Stillwater minisuite and enjoyed every second of it! The room was small but extremely comfortable. It had a whirlpool bathtub, king sized bed and mini fridge. The house itself was really unique and fun to explore. The innkeepers, Tom and Rosalind, were very nice. Tom even gave us a brief history of the bed and breakfast when we arrived. As were were celebrating my husband's birthday that weekend, I had requested a wine and cheese basket. The wine was very good and the basket was full of many different types of cheese, crackers and other snacks. I had also requested that rose petals be scattered around the room upon our arrival. Overall, our experience at the Whistling Swan Inn was very good! Tom and Rosalind were very accommodating, responding to my requests even on short notice. The breakfast was very good and the area around the inn was also fun to explore. It's a small town but there are a lot of antique stores and some pretty neat restaurants. I would definintely reccommend this place to anyone looking for a weekend away!

My husband and I had a wonderful overnight stay at the Whistling Swan Inn. Ros, the owner was wonderful. She was warm, friendly and a wonderful cook as evidenced by our delicious breakfast in the morning. We ordered the Romance package and had champagne, beautiful roses in our room with delicious chocolate covered strawberries! We also chose $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant. We would definitely go back and highly recommend the Whistling Swan Inn!

The room was beautiful and very clean. Our room had 2 bathrooms, one had a giant soaking tub the other a shower. The breakfast was delicious and the Innkeeper Ros was friendly, pleasant, and professional. The room I booked us into was not to our liking and we switched to another room that was available. It was a perfect quiet getaway and we will definately return. Highly Pleased!!

I booked a suite as a surprise for my Husband's Birthday...Initially before going there I was wondering if my husband would like it or not..When we went there, innkeeper received us and she showed the place around..She is a very friendly woman..My husband really liked the suite that I had booked...Its really a good place to relax on a weekend..The breakfast served there is really delicious..We enjoyed our stay there..

By the time we left, my girlfriend and I sorely regretted not being able to stay longer. Ros is accomodating to the max, the room was wonderful, the breakfast delicious. Local food and activities were close and fun.

The Whistling Swan is simply GORGEOUS! It's a great romantic get-a-way. We will be back over and over again.

Lots of wonderful amenities; loved having access to a bike, spent lots of time on the porch hammock and in the claw foot tub. We would stay here again.

I googled Bed & Breakfast places in NJ and this one caught my eye. I checked it out, the rooms looked great and I read not one bad review! One of the things everyone said was out of this world is the breakfast which is great because my husband and I love food! We felt right at home and there was nothing awkward about this experience. We definitely will be going back in the Spring when it's warmer. I definetly would recommend this if you want to try a B&B!! Thanks Tom & Ros

This inn was the perfect spot for my husband and I to have a quiet winter getaway from our 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old. We booked the Walnut Valley suite. My husband was feeling a bit under the weather - and was able to take a nice nap (very quiet and peaceful) while I read a book in front of the fire. We went to a local restaurant for dinner - just ate at the bar and it was wonderful. Breakfast was great the next day - fruit, freshly made french toast. Inn keeper (Tom I believe was his name) was lovely and very helpful. Perfect place to catch your breath, relax and not do a thing. I think we will likely go again next winter. The only reason why I gave four instead of 5 stars is because I think some of the areas in the inn need a bit of sprucing up (paint and minor repairs). But the current inn keepers had just taken over about a month before our visit and I imagine they have plans to make some changes/updates. Would definitely recommend to friends.

We loved it! Rooms were very quaint, clean, and quiet! The owners were so friendly and accommodating and happy to please their guests.

The Whistling Swan Inn was very nice, and the service was fantastic. Tom was an excellant host. The living room was lovely, and always stocked with snacks, coffees, soda, ice, you name it! The homemade breakfast was delicious. It was a very pleasant, relaxing get away.

We loved this place! My husband and I stayed in the tower room, and I felt like a princess! The house is full of character, and in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood. Our room was beautiful, a good combo of antique and modern styles. Loved the jacuzzi! And breakfast was incredible. We left really feeling pampered. The only complaint was that the tower room bedroom has short windows along the floor that are uncovered, making us a little nervous about peeping toms. We covered them with blankets and pillows, but I would suggest formal window coverings.

This B&B is an all-around charming place! I would highly recommend it.

It was a nice place, but our room, the Morris Canel, had no closet..none. They did state that it was a very small room, and that was true but if you have no closet and you bring coats and clothes that need to be hung properly a stick type coat rack doesn't help. We managed and made the most of it. The Inn is clean and pretty.

We have returned to this B and B many times. The house is large and lovingly decorated. The hosts, Roz and Tom Bruno are very warm-hearted and welcoming. And the breakfasts are worth the trip. Highly recommend!

Roz was so accommodating and helpful... Great lady to shoot the breeze over, while listening to an old victrola in their cozy common room. Great night stay!

My girlfriend and I decided to do something different for our 6th year anniversary. We usually do more "event-like" celebrations, i.e., Broadway shows, driving to exotic restaurants, partying in Atlantic City, etc. This year we decided to try out something low-key and relaxing and The Whistling Swan came to mind. My parents used to frequent it when I was a kid and were always very happy with their stay. While the inn now has different owners it's reputation for being a lovely, relaxing getaway is very much intact. I booked the Harmony Suite, one of the bigger rooms with a queen sized bed, 2 bathrooms(one housing a shower and the other a jacuzzi), and a faux-fireplace that gives off the perfect amount of heat. It's done in a Victorian/Japanese style which we really liked. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and spent a good amount of our time taking it easy and enjoying just being at the inn. Later that night we drove down the street to Bell's Mansion for a 5 star meal. Afterwards we returned to the inn to plan out the rest of our night. We checked out various bars/venues in the area and later that night ended up back in our room with a chilled bottle and chocolate covered strawberries that had been provided for us by the Whistling Swan. We had a wonderful night relaxing in the hot tub and spent the rest of the night either in it or the bed. The next morning we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked breakfast buffet courtesy of Rosalind. The entire staff was nothing short of kind and generous. It was a wonderful gift to the both of us this year and we will absolutely be back.

Went here as a surprise for my boyfriend's birthday. The inn was extremely charming and nicely decorated. The inn keeper was super friendly and made sure that we were more than comfortable and had everything we could possibly need. We stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite, it was beautiful! The bed was comfy and the fire was nice and warm. The tub easily fit two people and was very relaxing. We ate at Bell's Mansion, which is right now the road from the inn an was superb! We will definitely be coming back and recommending this place to others.

My wife and I were married against all odds last week in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Rosalind made sure to call us to explain that the power had gone out in Stanhope, but that the Whistling Swan was running on limited power via a generator. She told us that this would mean we would not be able to watch cable, but the TV and DVD player worked, and while there was running hot water, we could not use the jacuzzi. We told her that was fine, as we were looking for a comfy, quiet place to spend our wedding night. My wife and I were in absolute awe of the Whistling Swan from the moment we entered its doors. Its comfy, rustic charm appealed to us immediately. When we entered our room, the High Point Suite, we were greeted by a wonderful wine and cheese basket that we had ordered, complete with sweets, and gourmet cheese from a local creamery. The bed was one of the comfiest we have ever slept in, and we had a great time watching DVDs from the Inn's video library, kept on the second floor. As for the showers, the water pressure was amazing, and the bathtub/jacuzzi was awesome even without the water jets. The electric fireplace that faced the tub was a wonderful treat as well. When we made our way downstairs, Rosalind warned us that her breakfast that morning wouldn't be her "usual fare". We weren't phased. We expected bagels, or maybe some warm cereal, which is better than some of the other hotels that my wife and I have stayed in, but instead, my wife and I were greeted by homemade waffles, sausage links, an assortment of cold cereals and granola, cheese pie, coffee, orange juice, milk, and pumpkin bread. Even as we ate, Rosalind continued to apologize for what she considered a lackluster breakfast. We can't wait to go back and see what her "usual fare" is! All in all, even without the hurricane, we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our honeymoon night. We wish Tom and Rosalind all the best with the Whistling Swan and cannot wait for our next stay!

My wife and I were celebrating our 21st anniversary. I thought it would be great to surprise her by taking her on a romantic and quiet long weekend. We've never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before because of my own perceptions of them. However, I really wanted to try the B&B experience and wanted my wife to have a quiet and relaxing weekend. I did some research and found the Whistling Swan Inn! And what a find it was! My wife was a little skeptical when we first pulled up to the Inn. But, as soon as we walked through the front door and met Roz, the owner along with her husband Tom, we were sold! Then Roz showed us to the room I reserved called the "Walnut Valley". My wife and I loved it! The room was beautiful and romantic! There was this instant feeling of tranquility. Each morning Roz and her husband had a wonderful and delicious breakfast prepared promptly at 8:30 for their guests. But, there was no rush to be down. Guests have until 10:00am to come down for breakfast, if they wanted to come down at all. One thing that Roz made clear to us when we arrived - she has no rules. We were so happy that our first B&B experience was at the Whistling Swan Inn. For that reason we noted it as one of our top places to go. We will definitely be going back!!!

My fiance and I are planning for a wedding and instead of a vacation this year we decided to do a getaway weekend. We spent the weekend at the Whistling Swan, it was our first time experiencing a bed and breakfast and we couldn't have picked a better place! It was relaxing, and the inn keepers were so nice to us and we really enjoyed our stay! It's a perfect place to getaway from the busy city life.

Tom and Rosalind made us feel like we were more than just guests in their home, they made us feel like we were friends. We had a wonderful and relaxing time. The breakfast was fantastic!

Gorgeous B & B. We just stayed there for the 13th time in 8 years and just love it. Inkeepers are wonderful and everything about the Inn; rooms, anemities, location etc etc exceeds any and all expectations. Outstanding!

This lovely Victorian is beautifully furnished and decorated! The wrap around porch made an excellent "reading room" especially on a nice Sunday morning. Room was comfortable--even for 3. Breakfast was outstanding, and snacks (the homemade cookies are worth every calorie!), tea, coffee and sherry are available anytime day or night. Friendly owners will chat with you like old friends.

First time B&B experience. Could not have asked for a better one.

We have never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast before. We were greated by a friendly smiling warm lady, who showed us around the house. Then to our room. After relaxing outside on the wonderful front pourch. Roz made dinner reservation at a wonderful old manson. Which that was within walking distance. After dinner again we sat on the pourch for sometime, having coffee / tea & brownies that Roz made. The night stay was very nice , quiet & comfortable. We have posted it up on my facebook page & plan on returning again. The food we ate at breakfast was very good. Do not think I have anything bad to say. Thank you to Tom & Roz for a GREAT time. The Innkeepers Roz and Tom will make you feel immediately welcomed when you come here. Roz was so great about suggestions on things to do in the area and where to have dinner, she even made our reservations for us. Our bed was comfortable, with plenty of pillows. A two person jacuzzi tub with bath salts and candles, fluffy robes, and extra towels were some of the little extras we found pleasantly surprising. This turned out to be the best choice for relaxing for a few days. Stanhope is a sleepy little town where you can sit on the wrap around porch in a rocker or hammock, stroll thru the gardens or take a ride on the free bikes the Inn provides and enjoy its peacefulness. Breakfast is not to be missed, so many choices. Blueberry pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit, bacon, Roz's breakfast pizza with sausage, tomatos and cheese. You will not go hungry here. In addition to a filling breakfast, snacks and drinks are available all day. Aside from all the wonderful things this Inn has to offer it is worth the trip just to spend time with innkeepers who genuinely enjoy their guests and take the time to make them feel comfortable and welcomed.

We were looking for a nearby weekend getaway, and I signed up based on the website. The building is a very nice Victorian home, with beautiful garden, on a quiet street in a picturesque town. The hosts were friendly and personable. Completely satisfied.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at the Whistling Swan Inn. The Innkeepers were welcoming and friendly, and quite knowledgeable about the town and surrounding area. We stayed in one of the smaller, less expensive rooms. The room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and cozy. Breakfast both mornings was quite good, with a nice variety of breakfast choices. We liked that the breakfast was served buffet style, and we could sit at our own table or on the warp-around porch. Overall, excellent value for the money.

My fiance and I arrived 30 min before the check in limit. Unfortunately when we got there, we realize that the web booking mistakenly booked us on the wrong days, but the groundskeeper was extremely understanding and accommodated us for being there in the next best room. We booked a suite and because we were there a day early and the only guests at the time, she happily offered to let us see all the rooms. We were so pleased we even asked about doing our wedding there as well. This was our first bed and breakfast and it was a warm and wonderful experience. We hope to be coming back soon, next time as Mr and Mrs.

This was an excellent weekend getaway. Perfectly located close to lakes and good dining! Highly recommended.

Everything about my stay at The Whistling Swan Inn was perfect........ I'll be back!

We had a room with a very high ceiling and a fan with a long extension pole, it was swaying and making noise over our heads. The first night was too hot and second night too cold. Each night we were awakened by carbon monoxide detectors beeping, one in our room and one in the hall. There was no danger, just annoyance and a loss of sleep. The featherbed was not comfortable to us. Many other rooms to choose may have a different experience. The Jacuzzi Tub was nice but we didn't care for our steam shower. Food was great. Could not enjoy the porch furniture due to smoking. We ended up doing activities in the Poconos after deciding not to stay at a Pocono Resort which would have been better for us and less costly when other expenses were factored in. There would have been a lot to do in the area but we just didn't have the time to experience much of it.

Breakfast was delicious. Our room was pristine. The "Swan" is a beautiful old house. Our visit was early in the spring, but I would bet that come summer the grounds are gorgeous. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Very positive experience.

The new inn keeper Roz is so incredibly customer focused and she goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. We stayed in one of the smallest rooms. It was cozy, but nice. We found the hostess pleasant and helpful as we planned our weekend. We had the babymoon package. It seemed a fair deal, especially compared to more pricey options at other B & Bs. The town is a great place to relax before having children.

My husband and I stayed there last weekend for a night to celebrate our anniversary. This place was extremely clean, the baked goods were delicious and the owners were a delight. For one night, we didn't want to travel too far and this turned out to be a delightful experience. I look forward to coming back in the summer or fall when there is a bit more to do (like the vineyards nearby :)

We really enjoyed our stay. The room was a bit cold. It was hard to figure out how to warm it up. But the jacuzzi was room and comfortable and the entire B&B was very relaxing. We would stay there again.

My wife and I stayed for a night at the Whistling Swann Inn. The rooms are nice and clean and we had made arrangements to come in late at night and check out later in the afternoon. We made the arrangements and got in late. We then expected to be able to check out later in the afternoon for an additional fee which was agreed upon. We were told that they would not be able to have us check out late because they made other arrangements even though we agreed on this. And then the hostess still insisted to have us pay the additional fee (even though we did not get to sign out when we agreed upon). Additionally, our hostess seemed to be rushed and more on the unfriendly side. The Whistling Swann Inn is a nice place but given the steep price and poor service, I would not recommend it.

This was an unfortunate result of miscommunication. Dr and Mrs. H requested a 2:00 pm checkout when they booked their reservation. Although my official checkout policy is 11:00 am, no fee is incurred until after 12:00 pm. Dr. and Mrs. H checked in late, and I did not see them until breakfast. In the morning, I asked them if they still required a late checkout, and they then asked for a 3:00 pm time. Given that someone was checking into the room that day, and I had an event that afternoon, I indicated that 1:00 pm was the best I could do, which I thought was a reasonable compromise to the original request of 2:00. I'm sure I did appear rushed. Dr. H entered the kitchen to continue the discussion. It was a Sunday morning, and I was trying to serve breakfast to a dining room full of guests. I'm sympathetic to the H's disappointment in not being able to enjoy the amenities of the Inn for a longer period of time. To avoid a similar situation in the future, 12:00 pm will be the latest guests can check out when there is an event, and it will be clearly communicated at the time of the booking.

Our stay at the Whistling Swan Inn was very pleasant, relaxing, and completely satisfying. The house is beautiful and the rooms are elegantly decorated. The innkeepers are very hospitable, breakfast was delicious, and overall the service was great.

The Whistling Swam was simple exquisit and charmning. The web site photos where very accuate and the room we stayed in was extremely cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was tasty and the proprietor was very friendly. It was the perfect setting for a weekend getaway.

We used this as a get-away evening. We checked-in at 3:00, left the room once for dinner for an hour and once for breakfast for about 25 minutes. There isn't much to do in the winter around Stanhope, but the room was so pleasant that we felt no need to find anything more to do other than relax and just enjoy some unwind time. Rosa was great, the breakfast was great, and the experience was great! I've stayed in many hotels, but this was my first B&B. I'll do a B &B again, for sure!

My boyfriend and I decided to spend New Year's eve at the Inn. The innkeeper was delightful and really made us feel right at home. The room was beautiful and very tidy. The breakfast was pretty good as well. We wished we could have stayed longer. The only thing I'd love is for this place to have a later check-out time. A 12pm check out time would have made our stay even more enjoyable.

My husband and I took a trip to North Jersey for our 1st wedding anniversary--we had never stayed at a B&B before so we weren't sure what to expect but our stay was nothing short of relaxing, romantic, and fun. Our room was beautiful and so cozy. Roz was very friendly and accomodating. Her breakfasts were delicious, too! I hope that we have the opportunity to visit again. The harmony suite is amazing--2 bathrooms in the room, one with a jacuzzi tub, fire place and TV--perfect!

I was looking for a special place near Lake Hopatcong to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. Googling the region brought the Whistling Swan Inn to my attention. We love Victorian houses and I was immediately charmed by the inn. However, we seldom have stayed in older B&B's because we want a king size bed, and most haven't had them. So I was delighted to find that several rooms here had King's. The quality of the accommodations and the renovations to the bathrooms have been done with great care and fit modern needs while preserving the graciousness and style of the Queen Ann period. Our room had a soaking tub and a fireplace- both amenities were wonderful. The owners are friendly and helpful and enjoyable to talk with.

This is a wonderful B&B set in Western NJ. We enjoyed our hosts who were very friendly and very helpful. The breakfasts were outstanding! Our room was very comfortable and we could not have asked for anything more. All thanks to owners, Ros and Tom Bruno. Mary

It was ten years or more ago the last time we stayed at the Whistling Swan. Things are quite the same even with new owners -Great. Having the romantic package even made it more special. Love this place.

My wife and I love the fact that we were able to plan a getaway weekend without having to drive too far. The Innkeepers were very friendly and the Breakfast was awesome. We stayed in the Stillwater Mini Suite and it was very relaxing - The King size bed was extremely comfortable. Lots of fun stuff to do close by as well. Thumbs up!!!

We chanced upon the Whistling Swan Inn when we wanted to do a quick getaway, mini-honeymoon on the weekend we were married, as we wouldn't be going on our true honeymoon to St. Thomas for a while. We loved the inn, and have stood there traditionally now for 8 straight Columbus day weekends (and never desired to return to the Virgin islands, btw), and stayed for2 other times in between anniversaries, as well. We could not imagine our anniversary weekend not being spent there. Liz the innkeeper is wonderful, and we love the Victorian feel, as well as all the nice restaurants, fall foliage, and activities available in the beautiful areas near Stanhope. Highly recommended!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Whistling Swan Inn. The accomodations where excellent, the breakfast was delicious, the service was great, and the recommendation of a restaurant for dinner was perfect. We will return if the opportunity to travel in New Jersey presents itself again.

Great place. Had a wonderful time. Stayed in the lower priced room. Room was very small but quaint. No closet and mattress was super hard. Rest of the house was amazing though. Felt right at home. Beautifully decorated.

We had a wonderful, last minute stay at this inn. The room was lovely, our hosts were interesting and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious! A relaxing time spent in the garden with water fountain and a good book. We visited nearby Waterloo Village and experienced a tasting and tour at the Four Sisters Winery. A return to this lovely part of New Jersey and the Swan will be planned.

My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night. We called ahead to let them know we'd arrive late as it was a Friday night wedding. Upon arrival, we managed to get in. I slowly made my way up the stairs while my husband ran back to the car to get the bags. As I got to the top of the stairs, the male owner called up the stairs to me. I thanked him for the instructions on how to get in. He made a rude comment about how we should lock his house up. I realize he didn't know that my husband was still outside but I still think he could've done better at being friendly. --- The room was comfortable enough but not worth the money we paid in comparison to similar places we've stayed in. The ceiling fan rattled a lot when you put it on the high setting. It made me rather nervous. The room was very clean. --- The breakfast was excellent and the woman who cooked very amiable. --- I would recommend this to a friend but warn them that it is very pricey for what you get.

The Whistling Swan is a nice place if you are planing on escaping from the everyday rush for a couple of days. The house is tastefully decorated and Liz, the innkeeper, has really put a lot of effort in making sure that the decor is true to the era in which the house was built. The breakfasts are amazing as well as the cookies and brownies that Liz has on hand all the time in the dining room. The wrap around porch is a pleasant place to sit and have breakfast and listen to the water fountain in the beautiful garden it overlooks. There are lots of nice restaurants in the area, however, there isn't much else to do unless you want to go hiking. Again, this is a perfect place if your intention is to get away for a couple of days for a romantic weekend and do nothing but relax and enjoy some good food.

This is a great find! We were extremely happy to arrive safely there after the hurricane Irene the night before. We were greeted by Liz and enjoyed wonderful treats with the wine/cheese basket and choc covered strawberries. I thought it was really nice she had an area for snacks, homemade cookies, well stocked fridge with water and sodas and teas and coffee. The room was fantastic and we didn't need to ask for anything...b/c it was already there! Definitely going to plan another longer stay in the near future! Nancy & Paul

It was a beautiful, well-kept house and we were made to feel very comfortable.

We stayed in the High Point Suite and it was an amazing room. With amenities like a whirlpool tub, steam shower, and Queen Size Bed, we had a fabulous time. The sink was a little on the small side, but we managed just fine. The only real issue was some fruit flies crawling on the blanket at the base of the bed. The Inn Keeper came immediately and took care of the issue. The food was great, and the complementary beverages, snacks, and DVD library were very impressive. We would definitely make a return trip, finances and time permitting...

We enjoyed our stay at this B&B. Located close to several hiking trails and a great restaurant called Bells Mansion. The town itself doesn't offer much so plan on getting in the car to do most of your activities. 35 minutes from Bushkill falls which is totally worth the trip! We enjoyed sitting sunning ourselves and napping on the side yard one day there. Very peaceful.

From the moment we walked into the Whistling Swan for the first time, we were satisfied. Not only was the service good, the room inviting and comfortable, the plumbing perfect and the food excellent, but the design and decor of the entire inn gave great aesthetic pleasure. I loved the beautiful decorating scheme of each room, as well as the swan theme that was maintained throughout the inn, in a tasteful manner.

My fiancee and I wanted a night away from the busy everyday life. We chose the Whistling Swan because there were plenty of outdoor activities to do there. We enjoyed our stay there very much. The room was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. It was definitely the break we needed and we are looking forward to going back to Whistling Swan.

We loved our stay at the WSI. The staff was friendly and helpful--and they weren't even the owners, they were watching the inn for the week. The rooms were beautiful and clean, and we enjoyed the complimentary snacks and dvd library. The grounds were well kept and beautiful. Everything was perfect, and we are looking forward to coming again. We definitely recommend this wonderful B&B!

We compare every B & B we stay at to the Whistling Swan. Very few live up to our experience. The food is wonderful, the rooms comfortable, the inn-keepers friendly and knowledgeable about the area. It's a great place to kick back and relax or enjoy the many area activities.

My husband and I recently stayed there for a night away from our three year old. The inn is comfortable and friendly, with nice touches like homemade cookies, coffee, water and soda always available, and a great DVD library. We were really just looking to relax so we mostly stayed at the inn, and enjoyed the quiet and our in room jacuzzi tub. We did venture out for dinner. It was a great summer night, and we were able to walk to the restaurant and enjoy dinner on their deck. Breakfast of homemade blueberry pancakes on the porch was perfect. I would highly reccomend!

My husband and I don't get away on our own very much, but wanted to do something special for our anniversary this year. I looked around online and came across the Whistling Swan, it was not too far from home and the prices were very reasonable. We booked a stay for one night and purchased the Romance Package. Liz and Bill were wonderful, we had the most fun conversing with them. We had dinner at Bell's Mansion which was also a tremendous value, I had lobster tail a shrimp pasta, my husband had the seared ahi tuna and we shared the satay trio...very good. The inn was very cozy we hung out downstairs for awhile before settling down for the night. Our room was just perfect for us and we both got a great nights rest. The morning brought Liz's amazing breakfast of blueberry crisp french toast, spinich quiche bacon and fresh coffee. We enjoyed our experience so much we hope to return again in the fall. Thanks Liz and Bill for making our stay so enjoyable!

It is still much better than motels.. but there are other bnb places way better than this. breakfast is ok with not-at-all fresh fruits. I had the same menu for 3 days except for waffle for one day and pancake for the other, like that. but same bacon, same cereal, same bad fruits, same egg pop pie... Host is kind but you barely see her. pretty much you just go there to sleep although you can hang out in the common room, but there's no tv in the common area.. you don't really get to sit with the host and other guests to talk about what's around and stuff...

We loved our stay at the Whistling Swan Inn! It was a quaint, quiet place to stay with a wonderful Innkeeper and amazing food. The room was nice and comfortable-nothing outstanding but a good room. We stayed in The Tranquility Room, where they very recently replaced the old clawfoot tub with a brand new one, which is wonderful and also works as a shower. The best part of our stay was the wraparound porch with the chairs and hammock which we enjoyed while eating fresh cookies and coffee and the breakfast, which we also enjoyed out on the porch. Great place!

We visited the Whistling Swan again to celebrate our anniversary. The rooms are beautiful and the property and gardens are a must see. Very romantic and relaxing.

We've stayed at the Whistling Swam on numerous trips over the past four years while our daughter was in college nearby. Innkeeper Liz Armstrong is always accommodating and treats us like we are visiting her home. Her breakfasts are terrific, the rooms are beautiful and the location is great. We've stayed in at least half of the rooms and all are comfortable. Liz makes you feel welcome, enjoys our company and we enjoy hers. The porch is a great place to just sit and relax with friends. A computer for guests, homemade cookies at all times, drinks and snacks make it an easy and beautiful place to stay. We'll be back even though our daughter has now graduated!

The Whistling Swan was a great bed & breakfast. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the place. The staff was friendly and the room was comfortable. There were complimentary drinks and snacks available at all times which was great to have so we were not spending extra money on bottled water. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend The Whistling Swan to anyone looking for a romantic bed & breakfast weekend get-a-way.

This is my first visit to Whistling Swan Inn, and I find it outstanding. All sorts of drinks - water, soft drinks, wine etc - are complimentary all day long, and the pastry/cookies included are excellent. The room is delicately decorated, the common areas are very nice and convenient, and the deck and garden are very nice. It is an excellent choice.

We are veteran B&Bers and found Whistling Swan somewhat lacking. Our room didn't have any opening windows. The orientation of the furniture was odd and we couldn't see the TV from the bed. No nightstand or reading light on one side of the bed. One of the faucet handles was missing from the jacuzzi. We looked at all the rooms and didn't find any that were really great. Plus, it's in the middle of nowhere.

We deal with a large number of guests at the inn, and, as you can see by our other reviews, we usually do an excellent job satisfying them. We are, however, aware that sometimes a guest's expectations are not met, and we like to view an unsatisfactory stay as an opportunity to improve our overall guest experience. There are two operating windows in the High Point Suite -- the architectural windows in the turret are from 1905 and are for decoration only. This is the first time we have received a complaint about the TV. It is a large 32" flat panel TV, placed directly in front of the bed for optimal viewing. A part of the jacuzzi handle was removed because it had become a safety issue -- guests would lean on it while getting out of the tub and it would break off. The change is merely cosmetic, as the remaining part of the handle can be turned easily. We have removed the same part from the other handle to eliminate any incongruity. Though we may not be located in an urban area, there are plenty of things to do in our area, such as outdoor sports of all types, wineries, movies and live theatre, and shopping(antiquing, boutique, outlet malls, shopping malls). We also have many fine restaurants in the area, some within walking distance and NJ’s finest jazz and blues club on our street. Again, we appreciate bringing this to our attention and we look forward to your return. Thanks.

My wife and I try to get away twice a year, but don't like to spend half the weekend travelling. What a great find in the Whistling Swan - and only 45 minutes from home! It's located in a quiet residential area, but close enough to the highways and within walking distance of a great restaurant. The inn is nicely appointed and the oak fireplaces and woodwork in the foyer, parlors, and dining room are gorgeous. The inn has a great wraparound porch with plenty of seating - great for reading, snoozing, or eating Chinese takeout while overlooking the garden! The only disappointment was the size of our room (the Morris Canal). Not terrible, but it turns out that it is the smallest room at the inn - we learned this when the innkeeper let us view the vacated rooms before we left on Sunday. The rest of the rooms are amazing, even those on the third floor were surprisingly roomy and very interesting. We will definitely be returning to TWS in the future for another romantic getaway. -C&P

My daughter and I had a college tour scheduled for the Hackettstown area - we did not want to stay at a hotel. Bed and Breakfast stays are always much nicer. We stayed at the Whistling Swan Inn and immediately fell in love with the place. It was decorated in Victorian style, the innkeeper was so friendly, the room was clean and very beautiful. The bed was so comfortable! The breakfast was delicious. All in all I highly recommend the Whistling Swan Inn.

Our stay at the Whistling Swan Inn in Stanhope, NJ was absolutely lovely. My husband has a gluten/wheat allergy which makes our desire to stay at unknown places very unlikely. Ms. Armstrong guaranteed that she could make a breakfast especially for him. The best part was that Michael even received homemade gluten-free cookies upon our arrival. What a special touch. We enjoyed staying in the nice quiet part of the house. Taking time to enjoy some rest and relaxation was exactly what we needed. I especially enjoyed being able to take a relaxing bath in the footed tub. Thanks for an enjoyable evening away.

The room was very small and kind of cramped. Otherwise a nice house, but not really anything special about it.

My husband and I had a getaway for 3 days at Whistling Swan Inn, it was an amazing experience, we spent most of the time in the room, and still wanted to extend our stay, it's just relazing. The Innkeeper was not there, but Rose and John had been a really nice innkeeper during our stay, we will definitely go back there sometime soon.

The innkeepers were welcoming and friendly. The rooms were lovely and very well appointed, big comfy beds and fantastic showers. The breakfast was, by far, the best part of the stay. I would definitely come again.

Our anniversary is in March, so the weather is always questionable.... but, Thunder-Snow? Couldn't have thought of a better place to ride out the storm (the homemade chocolate chip cookies helped)! Can't wait to return next year for our annual anniversary get-away!

Buffet breakfast is the way to go with a B&B so you don't have to wake up at a particular time.

Good: Rocking chairs on the porch, room & bath were beautiful, bed comfy. Nice touches: free wi-fi & computer in common parlor, in-room fridge & fireplace, bev. station w/ice, snacks, & Keurig, sherry & newspaper. avail. 24 hours. Bell's Mansion-close, w/ good/uneven service/food & BAD singer. GREAT music at Stanhope House. Dinner & GOOD singer-Salt-Byram; good lunch-Krave-Newton. Good antiquing-Blue Heron-Stanhope, Scranberry Coop & other stores-Andover. Not So Good: Every stay has glitches, yet more than a few together, added up. An e-mail re: nearby restaurant answered w/o an offer to make reservation or if we’d need one. The site mentions they do this, but opportunity to accept or turn down offer never came. We’d mentioned celebrating 2 special occasions in our reservation (granted, w/out requesting anything be done) but it was never even mentioned during stay. In-room fridge not plugged in (discovered after leftovers were warm next day). Dim bedside lamp was fixed by handing us a different bulb. TV cables for the DVD player were wired incorrectly, the room’s handmade “Do Not Disturb” sign was broken so we couldn’t hang it, the bathroom window was left open after the room cleaning & fluffy robes mentioned on the site for each room were nowhere to be found. Fireplace in the common room was never utilized (nor offered, though it was about 26 degrees & snowing). The address of a restaurant in their guide was incorrect – they’d moved & the info hadn’t been updated. We spent 20 mins. looking & had to ask a Sheriff for directions. When we brought this to the Innkeeper’s attention, it wasn’t acknowledged. Main seating for the first day’s breakfast was unavailable; we took plastic ware & small plates into another room to fend for ourselves. The Innkeeper found us after a few minutes & we were given a hot breakfast, still in the other room. Overall, Innkeepers were polite & cordial, yet we never experienced the "warm & fuzzy" vibe we’ve had at other B&B's.

We were looking for a quiet place to stay for the weekend. When we arrived, the innkeeper, Liz warmly greeted us. We are b and b ers and travel about to different inns. Whistling Swan is the best we've experience. There are so many little extras, for example a fully stocked snack bar, a computer, a video library and large comfortable sitting rooms!! Plus the breakfast was A-1!!!!

My Husband and I stayed here for three nites and boy , it was quiet , just what we wanted ....Everyone was friendly and breakfast was great ... Liz is a great cook..Her husband provided lively conversation at the table along with a few laughs.. Unfornately we had to leave early due to our son being sick and they had no problems charging us for only the time we spent with no questions asked .. While Stanhope isn't a dream vacation spot, this house sure is! It really is beautiful. My wife and I stayed in the High Point room... a two-room suite with a jacuzzi tub and a separate steam shower. The fireplace in the jacuzzi area wasn't working so they took $20 off the rate, which I thought was very nice. Great hosts, spotless house, nice breakfast... super gettaway.

...everything was great, the room, the common areas, the food and the service. Innkeeper Liz was very nice and interesting to chat with. The only issue I had all weekend was the room lighting, all bright, no soft lighting. If that's my only complaint, it must have been pretty good!

Rooms were beautiful and the sheets were so soft and comfy. I was a bit disapointed with the breakfast. I thought the breakfast would be more of a gourmet type breakfast and it was ordinary.Overall, a great stay

I'm so happy that I found this inn! There were so many positives to our stay. The hospitality was beyond 5 star, especially breakfast! The housekeeper is an amazing cook. We stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite and the room was what we though it would be and more. The location is great as well because it's central to alot of towns that have a great variety of things to do. In this day and age it's great to find a place that cares alot about the small stuff. I can't recommend this inn enough!

My husband and I have stayed at the Whistling Swan twice now - most recently, over Christmas 2010. It is such a beautiful old home, and the Christmas decorations were lovely! The breakfasts are superb - a real treat! Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel welcomed and totally "at home." We can't wait to come back and stay there again!! Our anniversary and my wife's birthday fall in December so we went in the cold. The room was impeccably clean, cozy, and comfortable. The night at the Whistling Swan was very relaxing for us. The innkeeper was friendly and made us feel at home. My wife and I enjoyed reading the notes in the book in the room from previous guests. We look forward to spending another night at the Whistling Swan during warmer weather.

Had a getaway weekend planned for my husband's 50th which included a one night stay at the Whistling Swan. Liz and her husband are excellent innkeepers, friendly and hospitable. The inn was beautifully decorated and very clean. Walking in you gives you a warm and relaxing feeling. I would definitely stay here again. Kudos to Liz on and outstanding breakfast. What a wonderful time we had. Whistling Swann was all that I could have imagined and much more. The room was tastefully decorated, the bed was extremely comfortable and the fireplace and jacuzzi were great extra additions. I will definitely return for another stay in the Walnut Valley Suite.

I went this past weekend just as a semi-romantic get away with my girlfriend and added the honeymoon package, which comes with wine, roses, choc covered strawberries etc. I had a request instead of roses to try and get an edible arrangement for me. No problem to difficult for them, they had everything ready for us at our 3pm check-in. The breakfast was amazing plenty of choices. The innkeepers are very sweet reminds me of back home in the south. Will return here highly recommended.

We took the High Point Suite for just one night, as we needed a getaway. I got the romantic package, which was a good deal because of the Dinner gift certificate. I was a little disappointed with the champagne bottle we got. The room was fantastic, though.

We didn't know what to expect when we drove up to the B&B despite the review we read in the "Select Registry" book. It turned out to be a lovely inn (even though we are not big fans of victorian buildings) with a beautiful garden and porch and very comfortable rooms with great beds and pillows that exceeded those in comfort that we have found in much more expensive inns and B&Bs. The owner, Liz, is a very good host. If you are the Stanhope area we highly recommend the Whistling Swan Inn.

We went to stay at the Inn for a night to get away from everything and it was just that!! The room was spectacular and clean and Liz welcomed up with open arms. She helped us decide on a restaurant for dinner and what to do the next day before we left, she was soooo helpful. The breakfast in the morning was delicious accompanied by great conversation! I would definitely go back and stay at the Inn again!!
