The Lion and the Rose is a great place to stay to have a scenic trip to the White Mountains. It's within striking distance from places like Littleton (with Chutters) and Sugar Hill (with Polly's Pancakes). Their rooms are themed (like the Egyptian room with appropriate decor), but the main house has a wonderful Edwardian feel. Chris and Roger treat you like family and make you feel the need to come back for another visit.

From the minute I arrived after a harrowing drive in snow I felt the comfort of this warm, hospitable inn. I spent two days here and by the time I left, I knew this would be my preferred place to stay on my business trips in the North Country or planning a long weekend in New Hampshire's Grand North and White Mountains.... Love this place!

We stayed in the Egyptian room, it was great The jacuzzi tub is wonderful to lounge in and watch the hills beyond . Chris and Roger are super friendly and outgoing, willing to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one. Breakfast was great! Beautifully furnished, clean rooms and common areas.

From the moment we drove into the driveway, we were greeted by Chris and Roger. They made you feel like family. The B&B is beautifully kept. They were very helpful with telling us what was in the area. Breakfast was a variety and beautifully presented. First time at a B&B and I know I will return. You were made to feel like a King!

This really was a fantastic stay. I recommend it to anyone looking for a great time and friendly service, as well as a stellar breakfast!! The caretakers are always very kind and helpful they make each guest feel at home! I plan on returning next year!

My husband and I were very impressed by all that The Lion and the Rose had to offer. Roger and Chris were so warm and inviting! Made us feel like part of the family! The entire house was clean and nicely decorated. The room was outstanding! This place is a MUST go to for anyone who wants to get the most for their money! We are looking forward to returning! We were welcomed royally by the hosts. The house was beautiful and was decorated in keeping with its history. The Peacock Room was pleasant and adequate. The breakfast was unique and delicious. We were impressed with the way we and the other guests were introduced to each other so that the breakfast was like a family affair. We recommend The Lion and the Rose.

New beautiful bathroom. Fabulous breakfast. When we asked for help for evening dining choices, the owner sat right down with us and went through different menus he had and his recommendations. We appreciated this personal touch in a relaxed atmosphere. The house was absolutely beautiful inside and out and very clean. We would come back if we are ever lucky to go this way again.

The Egyptian room was very comfotable (great hot tub, soothing shower) and the decor was a lot of fun! Chris and Roger were great hosts and the location and town offer up a perfect slice of small town NH.

The Lion & The Rose is a wonderful experience for any traveler. The first thing is their unparalleled customer service. Chris & Roger are the warmest people you may ever meet. The B&B is a beautifully restored 1895 Victorian home with clean and well appointed rooms for all tastes. The people make this one of my favorite places to stay. Stay for a night or a week, you won't regret it.

What an great experience! We had a very pleasant stay with Roger and Chris who are delightful and engaging hosts. They understand what it means to run a B&B and their guests are treated royally! The Key West room is whimsical and fun. We hope to return to stay in another of their charming themed rooms.

We returned for our 2nd stay this year and probably close to our 12th overall. I think we have run out of adjectives to describe how wonderful both the B&B and Chris and Roger are. Regardless of time of year, occasion or any thing else that is going on, a stay at The Lion and The Rose is always the pause that refreshes.

My Girlfriend and I chose the Lion and the Rose for our White Mountains get away. The inn was beautifully decorated and has a warm cozy feeling to it. Our bed was very comfortable and the whole inn was well kept and clean. The Owners, Chris and Roger are very nice friendly people and the breakfast they made us was delicious. We would definitely recommend this inn!

Chris and Roger are great! Comfortable rooms and the best breakfast you will have anywhere. You won't want to check out! Every nook and cranny has a story. A really nice place to stay.

My 4th stay over the past four years. Engaging and friendly owners. Excellent and creative breakfasts. Comfortable, quiet and welcoming facility. Definitely will stay there again.

We were in Whitefield for the weekend of the 25th to attend Audi Winter Driving School at the Team O'Neil Rally school. Last year we stayed at one of the big hotels in Whitefield and wanted a more relaxed experience this year. We were not disappointed. The rooms were beautifully appointed, the hosts gracious and very helpful and the breakfast wonderful. We will stay again next year.

We just wanted to tell you that the stay was absolutely wonderful. Chris and Roger are great hosts and exceed above and beyond on servicing your needs. We stayed in the Egyptian Room and it was absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed the jacuzzi and the bathroom was a double shower and sink and the king size bed was so comfortable that I slept well. We will be next time in the summer.

The Lion and Rose is the perfect place for a stopover in the White Mountains. My partner and I stayed in their "egyptian room" and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Chris and Roger are great hosts, it's been almost a week since our stay and I still feel relaxed!

This Bed and Breakfast is lovely inside and kept by a very friendly couple. If you are looking to be right in a quaint mountain town center to take some interesting walks around the store fronts or ice skate in the frozen town square, it's perfect. If, however, you are looking for a more remote atmosphere, this may not be the place for you as the sights and sounds of being right in town cannot be avoided (street lights, passing cars, neighbors, etc...). Overall, they were lovely people and it was a great weekend in the White Mountains.

Chris and Roger are excellent hosts. It felt as though we were being welcomed into their home. The Lion's Den was a spacious, clean room with a fun theme. Breakfast was absolutely wonderful-- including stuffed french toast. Yum! Thank you so much for a wonderful visit!

My husband and I stayed in the "Lion's Den" room in this b&b. It was fantastic! Chris paid attention to every little detail to make our stay most enjoyable. She and her husband, Roger, made us feel so comfortable and at home. They were a delight to talk to and most helpful in every aspect. Chris's breakfasts were delicious! Their home is beautiful and a must see! Every room has its own theme. We can't wait to go back!

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this B&B given our last minute booking. The owners stayed up late to meet us, and then had breakfast ready early the next morning. The overall decor is charming but a bit dated. Breakfast was good, standard fare and kept us full for the rest of the day. The owners were very friendly and more than willing to help us find the perfect hike for the day.

The uniqueness of the rooms, the whimsy of the classic Victorian motif, and the pleasant and warm demeanor of the innkeepers made this rainy, soggy week-end a fantastic time.

This was the first B&B stay for Becky and me. Expected to compromise room and bathroom comfort for the experience. Turns out, both were every bit as good as the Hyatt Regency Boston we stayed at the night before. The host and hostess (Roger and Chris) were very attentive and interesting to talk to. Don't forget to retire to the parlor in the evening for a chat. The breakfast was very elegant and tasty, and the conversation with the two other couples was the highlight of the stay. Overall this far exceeded my expectations (and Becky had very high expectations!). The proximity to the White Mountains make this a perfect location. Stay here, and eat dinner at the Mountain View Grand Resort nearby for a perfect stay. Was going to Tucsany for 40th anniversary... not will probably come here. Thanks Roger & Chris. Wonderful location in the white mountains of NH close to lots of attractions. Chris and Roger were very warm and welcoming, and helpful with maps, directions and where to go for dinner. the breakfast was very good!

Our week-end was wonderful despite the rain. Chris and Roger were awesome. The braekfasts were great. The little extra of Chris always greeting us at the door when we got back from our daily trips was above and beyond. We would definitely go back and pray for sun.

Hospitality, rooms, and food made you feel warm and welcome. They set the bar high for what we will look for in other b&b's. Couldn't have asked for better hosts.

A beautiful & interesting house. Very friendly hosts. The only problem for me were the steps, 15 stone steps to the front door & another 15 to the bedroom.

My wife and I were at the Lion and Rose to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. This was our first time in a bed and breakfast. Chris and Roger were incredibly nice. We enjoyed talking with them. They were very helpful when giving us tips and thoughts when we discussed what we were going to do each day. The breakfasts were very good. The eggs were delicious and the stuffed french toast was incredible. My wife has some dietary restrictions and they were very accommodating. They also were nice enough to give me a cup of coffee at 6:45am when I snuck out early to go looking for Moose to photograph (didn't see any, might be an excuse to go up again). They rooms were very nicely done. We stayed in the Egyptians room and feel like pharaohs. (but pharaohs with a jacuzzi tub and gas fireplace) I would definitely stay there again if I was in the area. Oh, and it was cheaper to stay here that at some of the chain hotels.

The Lion and the Rose is a great option for folks looking for a unique and charming B&B experience near Mount Washington. We had an excellent trip!

Even tho I did not eat there, I know the service was there.. (had to get to the airport very early) I truly enjoyed the room - the Key West and the wonderful island charm it has. A year ago I stayed in the White Lilac room also fantastic. If you like magic, comfort and beautiful themes, this is the place! It's got beauty to notice in every corner and the owners are fantastic. Thank you.

Owners were great...Our 1st time ever at a bed and breakfest..It was different sleeping in a strangers house. i think what helped was we had our on bathroom....

Chris and Roger were the most wonderful Host and Hostess!!! The room was lovely with all the amenities that you could need, mini fridge, towels, soaps, washer and dryer in the bathroom if needed. The room clean and fresh and decorated with beautiful antique accents. Chris is an amazing cook! Breakfast was always delicious with an absolutly beautiful presentation. Chris and Roger were extremely helpful at pointing out high points of visiting the area along with directions to special locations. I would definately stay there again!!!

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and had always been told that it was a wonderful place to stay, but when we arrived, we found that it far exceeded our expectations! Chris and Roger took us in with their warm, caring way and treated us like family! We arrived as strangers and left with new family members. Breakfasts were beyond amazing! All homemade and filling! When you eat here, eat early...it will last you until dinner time! Our room was always exceptionally clean and inviting, especially with the hot tub and shower for two! :) We are looking forward to staying here again, hopefully in the winter so we can use the fireplace! After getting many personal recommendations to the Lion and the Rose from family and friends, as well as reading many five star reviews, I was really excited for our getaway! I read all about the wonderful cookies we would be having, wine and hors d'ouvres, and a phenomenal breakfast (hey, I like to eat! :) ) but unfortunately, we didn't get the first two and the breakfast was good, but not out of this world like I expected. I'm not sure what happened, but it was a little disappointing :) The room was nice, and clean, and Chris and Roger were very, very friendly, which was awesome. :) Hopefully next time we will have a great experience like we were expecting this time!

My partner, Paul and I, stayed at The Lion and the Rose and loved it. Chris and Roger make you feel very welcome. They are gay friendly so if you want a place to go with you partner, I recommend The Lion and The Rose. Breakfast was great, especially the stuffed French Toast and they were very helpful with travel advice and recommendations. It's a very cosy and romantic place so I look forward to returning for a get-away now and again.

My girlfriend and I decided to go on a spur of the moment weekend getaway, and I found this B&B very near an area I'm familiar with in the White Mountains. We decided to "splurge" on the most expensive room, The Egypt Room. This is the only room with its own private deck, as well as a jacuzzi and a shower for two. Note that it actually wasn't that much more expensive, but not all rooms have a jacuzzi, and no other room has a deck! The decor in the room was amazing. You can tell the owners had a blast collecting the items necessary to decorate it in the requisite theme. This was the case with all the rooms, as we were invited to take a look at all of them, as we were the first couple to arrive that weekend. Now, the real value, and what made us decide on this B&B, was how much was offered over and above the room. Not only did we get breakfast in the morning, but tea and cookies in the afternoon, and wine and cheese and crackers at night! The owners are very sweet people. Very eager to chat, but also understanding of your need for privacy. It's a delicate balance, and I applaud them for having a good sense of people. Of course there's nothing worse than staying at a B&B and having the owners constantly hovering. The owners live and sleep at an adjacent house, and with a front door key we were free to come and go as we pleased. Never once felt crowded. Also, the cable included BBC America, so we could watch Doctor Who! If I could find anything to complain about, it's that the B&B is too close to town. The night sky is amazing in this part of the state, but a few fewer street lights and it would have been breathtaking. Further away from town, up in the hills, the view of the surrounding mountains and forests would have been really something, too. The Lion and The Rose is one of the most pleasant vacations I can recall. Please check it out if you're planning a getaway in the area of the White Mountains!

The Lion and the Rose B&B has provided the exemplary comfort, caring, and friendliness that I have come to expect consistently over my several visits there. I am never disappointed. I’m greeted by warm from the oven cookies and the welcoming smiles from owners Chris and Roger Croteau. I’m always charmed with the restored Victorian home. Escorted to a beautifully decorated themed room with private bath, I pause to feel the comfort of a large bed and then off for a relaxing time in the spa tub. All are sure to feel the weight of the world slip away as I did. Breakfast at the beautiful grand dining table is memorable with fine food and service. The Lion and the Rose has never failed to impress me whether I’m visiting with a group, a single business trip, or a birthday surprise to enjoy a play at the nearby Weathervane Theatre. A great time with exceptional value, I’ve found a home away from home.

Roger and Chris were excellent hosts, we felt welcome the minute we walked in. Their b&b was fantastic, the rooms were great, we really enjoyed the Jacuzzi and the b&b is located at a great location in the White mountains!

The Lion and the Rose is a wonderful place to stay. From the minute you walk in the door (greeted with fresh baked cookies and a drink), to the Jacuzzi Room, and the warm, home-like environment created by the inn's owners, this inn is a simply wonderful place to stay. We have stayed there twice, and are looking for a reason to go back a third time. The rooms have always been clean, and the beds are VERY comfortable. The living room area is welcoming and it a great place to sit and read, or to have a conversations with new people. While they do not serve dinner, they have a perfect handle on which restaurants to recommend. They do serve breakfast, however, and it blew us away both times. They offer multiple seatings, and the food is all cooked in house, and is served by the innkeepers with precision. the food itself was AMAZING! Stuffed french toast cooked perfectly, fresh coffee and orange juice, sausages, fruit, and muffins...all to die for. The Lion and the Rose is worth the trip. Roger and Chris are masters of the trade.

Our stay at the Lion and the Rose B&B was fabulous! We really needed a relaxing weekend and we got it. Roger and Chris were very friendly and the nicest people. We are planning on going back during the summer to enjoy their garden and the beautiful mountains.

This was the first bed and breakfast my girlfriend and I have been to. According to her "It was everything I could have asked for and more". We will definitely be back to more Bed and Breakfasts and especially this one. The food, service and cleanliness of the rooms was outstanding. The lion and the Rose is definitely a must visit.

The Lion and The Rose is nestled in the small, charming community of Whitefield, NH. Location was perfect for good food (Grandma's Kitchen and the Mountain View Grand Hotel are a MUST) and even better skiing (Bretton Woods Ski Resort). We stayed in the Lion's Den room- very spacious and extremely clean with a two person jacuzzi tub. The room aside, to say the innkeepers were hospitable would be an understatement. We were instantly greeted with warm smiles, freshly baked chocolate chip cookes, and a lovely glass of wine. We started each morning with a large, homemade breakfast that rivaled my mother's home cooking (sorry mom). All in all, the location was perfect, house was beautiful, and food was delicious. The icing on the cake would have to be the innkeepers- how lovely it was to feel so at home while away on vacation.

My husband and I stayed here over the weekend and I could not have been more pleased. After a day on the slopes at Bretton Woods, it was a pleasure to come into this very well run B&B. Both Chris and Roger greeted us and showed us to our room which included a charming soaking clawfoot tub. The food was amazing in the morning and they have a terrific parlor for relaxing in the evening. I will definitely be back and will recommend it warmly!

We had a great time during our stay at the Lion and the Rose. Chris and Roger were wonderful - very friendly and personable - even greeted us with fresh-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies. After getting settled into the Rose Garden Room, which was absolutely beautiful, we headed downstairs for some lively conversation with Chris and Roger. They had excellent dinner recommendations for us. The room was clean and quiet and we slept great in the big, comfy bed. The breakfast the next morning was wonderful. Overall, we had a great time and can't wait to go back for another visit! We had gone away for a romantic weekend, and the Lion and the Rose delivered!

This place was ADORABLE! Chris and Roger (the owners) were so friendly and hospitable! My boyfriend and I stayed here during Christmas vacation and it was well worth it! We stayed for three nights! Chris makes an AMAZING breakfast every morning! I especially loved the stuffed french toast! The room was very cute! Each room has a different theme and we stayed in the Far East room! Everything was very clean and cozy, the bed was VERY comfortable! The downstairs den area had a great wood pellet stove which kept the whole house nice and warm! The hot tub was very relaxing and helped after a full day of skiing! This place was awesome and we hope to return soon and maybe we'll even share this place with our good friends!! It's definitely a couples or adult B&B, not recommended for families!

What a wonderful experience! We had a great three nights here while touring around to see the wonderful foliage. Chris and Roger were great tour guides and never sent us astray. Breakfast was great and flexible too, considering our time constraints. Would definitely stay again!

The Lion and the Rose B & B was an online find when we learned we were coming to the area for a wedding in Ma. What a find! When we first drove up, we had to laugh at the unique lamp pole outside the office door. Inside, the B & B was inviting and beautifully decorated. We had opted for the White Lilac room, as we did not plan on spending a lot of time in the room. The room was cozy and we slept soundly. We spent two afternoons visiting over wine, got great help in planning our day in the area, and got our two mornings off to a great start with delicious homemade breakfasts! Chris and Roger make every effort to make you feel welcome. We appreciated the introductions to the other residents each day; what fun to find out where the other guests had traveled from! The most limiting thing about staying in Whitefield is the few choices for dinner. We had a bad experience the first night at the Inn up the road. We were going to chose another place the second night, but most of the other restaurants within ten miles were closed Monday night. Chris called the Inn and let them know about what had happened to us and the other two couples she had referred. Our dining experience the second night was MUCH better. Too bad NH is so far from SC or we would chose to come again and be "house guests" with Chris and Roger.

This inn is very well kept, however, our room was next to the road and quite noisy. The innkeepers and friendly, helpful and did their best to make us comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding and sumptuous.

The title says it all. Roger & Chris are great people who truly treat their guests like family. Their location is incredibly close to many different attractions, and 'beautiful home' doesn't do the house enough justice. I just don't have the words to describe it. We will definitely stay here again when visiting this area.

We have stayed at The Lion and the Rose 8 times (our 9th trip is coming soon) and are continually impressed. Chris & Roger are genuinely friendly and helpful (for example, accommodating late check-in and early breakfast requests), but never over-bearing. Each room is unique, well-appointed, and immaculate - no drab/worn decor or clutter here. My favorite rooms are the Egyptian, Lion's Den, and Far East. The breakfasts are scrumptious and plentiful (love the stuffed french toast!). This is truly an exceptional place, yet prices are reasonable - they could easily charge 50% more. The only problem is that it really spoils you - I have yet to find another place that compares!

The Inn keepers Chris & Roger thought of everything to make our stay memorable. They had different themed rooms. We stayed in the Egyptian room. Very detailed with fun decor. Highly Recommend!!!

Innkeepers were amazing! Made us feel at home and the breakfast was excellent. Rooms were gorgeous. Would recommend to anyone.

Friendly; delicious breakfast. Theme decor is different. owners very proud to tell history of house and contents. Outside appearance lacks curb appeal -- looks neglected.

We were fortunate enough to discover the Lion and the Rose online, and once we arrived, we were treated like family. Wonderful owners, wonderful food, and a wonderful experience!

I needed place north of the White Mountains, and this one seemed to call to me the most. I was not disappointed. Roger and Chris are wonderful hosts, and their house is awesome. Each themed room has a unique feel and the common areas are wonderfully comfortable. Chris' breakfast is outstanding in every way, and what a lovely presentation to boot. I would go back in a heartbeat when in this part of the country.

We stayed in the Egyptian Room and it was worth the few additional dollars! The hot tub and 2 person shower was relaxing, the bed comfortable, the hosts friendly, and breakfast delicious.

We just had our 6th (I think) stay at The Lion and The Rose, and it will not be our last. The innkeepers, the rooms, the food, the ambiance...we cannot say enough about what a wonderful place this is and what wonderful people they are. It is so worth the trip.

My husband and I have stayed here many times and in different rooms and they have best the best times we could ever imagine. All the rooms have always been immaculate and just beautiful. The food and company of Roger and Chris is just the best! They make your visit so restful,enjoyable, and memorable!!!! When we think of New Hampshire it means The Lion & the Rose B&B!!!!! From the exterior colors to the interior wallpaper & furnishings this B&B has been lovingly restored. It does have one very modern addition - an indoor hot tub. Food is excellent & hosts cheerful. Well worth the visit.

Our stay at the Lion & Rose was absolutely perfect. Our late arrival was not a problem & the house was amazing and so was the breakfast. I haven't had such a nice breakfast in a very long time. The house was amazing and each room has a unique personality with everything you could want in it. They were very hospitable and I would recommend this B&B to anyone going to NH for a couple of days!
