Our numerous common rooms provide ample space for guests to socialize, read, play games, watch tv, or simply relax. Two wood-burning fireplaces provide a warm ambiance during the fall and winter.
Although each room is unique in size, decor, and bed type, they are all comfortable, warm and welcoming. Each room has its own private bathroom.
Dexter's guests enjoy recreation & relaxation throughout the year as a result of the many on-site activities including three tennis courts, a swimming pool, a commercial x-c ski & snowshoe operation, lawn games, a game room, a library and numerous indoor and outdoor gathering spaces.
We have hosted close to 4 dozen weddings and receptions since we were married here in 1981.The smallest was a party of 4, and the largest was 325! We will be glad to send you a complete packet explaining all the details. We believe it is a unique location which is private, but easily accessible, and perfectly suited for a Gatsby-like weekend event.
Our family-friendly fine dining restaurant features an interesting mix of traditional American fare and ethnic chef specialties and is open to both in-house guests and the general public.
Peak foliage takes place on Sept 28 at 5:07 AM and I'm the only one who sees it! The question "when is peak" is paramount to planning fall trips to New England. Fortunately, everyday here is spectacular. Our location is particularly well suited to use as a base to take day trips around NH,Vt, Maine, and Mass. We are only a 2 hour drive along back roads with gorgeous scenery to almost any spot you wish to visit. We always go over maps and itinerarys pointing out not to be missed spots along the way. Yes, we even hand out maps so you will make it back in time for the evening meal! More than once, however, we have heard the comment " we were gone all day, had a great trip, and found the brightest colors right here when we returned!"
The two upper courts were built in 1973 and all three are being resurfaced this spring. They are occupied with the daily clinics and private lessons as well as round robins and mixed doubles. The resident pro from 6/1-9/1 takes a great deal of pride in improving your game and making it fun at the same time. From children to USTA Sanctioned Senior Tournaments, everyone enjoys playing on top of the hill here at Dexter's!
After a good workout on the courts, or for those who would rather just relax and soak up the sun and the mountain scenery at the same time, the pool provides the perfect spot. Surrounded by a hedge instead of a fence, the wide deck allows plenty of room for everyone to stretch out and do nothing at all!
The Holly House cottage is a "home away from home" which can sleep up to 10 guests and includes two full batrooms, a full kitchen, and a large living room with gas fireplace and satellite tv/vcr/dvd.

Although the inn is in a beautiful setting, it is in need of a good facelift and cleaning... there were spider webs everywhere. From the entrance area which was dark and dingsy, to the dining room where the dark vinyl table clothes felt like we were at a take out resturaunt. The overgrown shrubs blocked the view of the mountains at breakfast and the fruit salad was not fresh and was served both days. Our bathroom tub seemed to have dryed spilled paint in it and the bedspread was soiled with face makeup.

Dexter's Inn has a beautiful location on top of a hill overlooking the lake. The grounds are lovely and there are trails through the woods for walking. The gardens are really pretty too. The service was excellent. John was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The room was large, comfortable and clean. We just wish we had time to enjoy another night on our tour of New England.

I was not disappointed - at all. A perfectly lovely location, comfortable room, excellent breakfasts to begin each day - I recommend the fantastic blueberry pancakes. Just the right amount of activities-nice pool, tennis, and playing shuffelboard is great fun. Many trails to hike. My family had a family vaca at Dexter's Inn this past week. It was perfect for all ages. The kids and adults played tennis, croquet, shuffleboard. The breakfasts are divine. Order the blueberry pancakes if you're there when Blueberries are in season. John, the innkeeper is extremely accomodating. Beautiful grounds. I may go back this winter for cross country skiing!

We just got home from a week at Dexter's Inn. Our first Family Reunion! It was absolutely the perfect place for all of us. There were 12 of us - 8 adults and 4 children. We rented the large 2 bedroom house which is where the "families" with children stayed. It became our central gathering and eating place! We grilled everyday, sandwiched and salads for lunch, dined outside on the tables and chairs provided and enjoyed wine and company. We rented three of the smaller rooms in the buiilding with the gameroom barn. We only left Dexter's two times in a week! We enjoyed the lake dinner cruise and also late night ice cream downtown. The breakfast every morning was a highlight! Rolph is a fabulous cook and server and has a great personality. We looked forward to him every morning as well as our blueberry pancakes et al. !!! John was a very good host - never hovered but always there when we needed a sewing kit, map, large serving bowls and utensils from the Inn's kitchen! The pool, tennis courts, shuffle board, croquet, hiking trails and gardens were wonderful. The reading room in the main Inn had alot of great books if that's what you're into. The complimentary soaps and bathsalts and lotion were really high quality...that reminds me...I want to contact John and get some more! We met another couple with thir son from Switzerland and invited them to eat with us. Much fun. Then an older retired English Professor from Mass. joined us with his bottle of bourbon one night for cocktails! Everyone in our group enjoyed the entire stay and everything that Dexter's had to offer. We hope to go again. It was a true vacation...and a true joy. (if you're looking for high speed internet connection - forget about it! - but we didn't miss it a bit)
