If you're seeking beautiful scenery, excellent dining options, total sleeping comfort with the options to do something or nothing at all, look no further than the Sunset Hill House. The staff are so friendly and cater to your whim. Recommend room #310 with beautiful views, gas fireplace, and 2-person jacuzzi. In the dining room try the rack of lamb and don't skip dessert, because the butternut chocolate sauce over ice cream is fabulous! And the wine -- wow. The list is endless!

This cozy hideout in the mountains has it all. It's easy to get to but once you're there you feel a million miles away. it's on a hilltop with views of hills and mountains in every direction. There's a golf course, restaurant, and bicycles which you can take into the little village. The innkeepers make you feel like family and the scrumptious breakfast is heavenly. It's a place to visit again and again with something to offer each season.

THE BAD: When we arrived, our room had 30-40 dead flies in it, mostly around the windows and floors around them... I'm sure the room was cleaned after its last tenants, but it clearly hadn't been checked in the days before our arrival. The hallways were in need of a good vacuum too. Fortunately the dining areas always seemed clean. THE GOOD: Even though it was past 11 PM someone graciously came and changed our sheets and cleaned up our room as best as they could at that time of night. Our room was nice. The fireplace was wonderful. It heated up the room in a jiffy and provided a wonderful coziness. The view from the dining area is magnificent: snowcapped mountain peaks, valleys and hills covered with all sorts of trees... Equally inspiring was the breakfast: one part is made up of a continental breakfast buffet and the other is a made-to-order hot portion. The pastries were delicious. Coffee was great. The tea selections were among the best I've seen. The hot breakfast portion was also fantastic. My wife had a lobster and cheese omelette and I had stuffed french toast . All the ingredients were fantastic quality and the cooks obviously knew what they were doing. The service was great. Nancy, the "world's happiest innkeeper" checked in on everyone at breakfast and handed out several "insider" itineraries of things to do. The service was so friendly and nice that I feel guilty saying anything bad about their inn at all. The inn itself was was worn, but cute. Think of it as "character" rather than being run down and it shouldn't bother you. CONCLUSION: Is it good value? Kind of. You need to have the right expectations and know you are staying in a place whose value lies more in the intangibles than in the old building. But I guess the real question is, "would I go back?" Definitely. The food, service, location, and views would bring me back.

We stay in a Jacuzzi suite, with our 2 dogs and cat. The suite was big enough for us and our pets (one Labrador included). Bed and pillows very comfortable. The Jacuzzi for two people is in a separated room and it really invites to relaxation. The staff is friendly and helpful. Food is very good. It was my first time in a B&B and I'm glad I had a great experience.

Beautiful place nestled in the gorgeous NH mountains. Wonderful home feeling, wake up to breakfast smell in the morning. Great rooms. Great place!

Ths is nouw our second stay at the Sunset Hill House (I've been dreaming of returning since we left!). The breakfast is exquisite, the room perfectly quaint in decor -- and very roomy. This stay we included dinner and were extremely impressed! We'll be back!

Our 2-night stay was wonderful. The chef did a great job accommodating a vegan diet. The food was GREAT for both dinner and breakfast. Our small budget put us in a small room but it was very comfortable and cozy. The common sitting rooms and dining rooms were very inviting with spectacular views. I definitely would recommend Sunset Hill House.

My fiancee and I stayed here last year around this time, and had a wonderful time. Not only was the Sunset Hill House a romantic setting, but there was so much to do in the surrounding areas in New Hampshire. From zip-lining to maple syrup tasting, we had 3 days of fun and relaxation. The innkeepers were fabulous hosts, and the food was some of the best we've ever had! It was also a wonderful place to ask a beautiful girl a very important question :) Definitely recommend!

Not only do the country setting and beautiful mountain views made our stay at Sunset Hill memorable, but the very helpful staff, hearty breakfasts and excellent dining made it all the more pleasureable. We look forward to spending more time there in the summer.

Stayed one Sat night to go skiing at Bretton Woods the next day. Had the Chef's Table Prix fixe when we arrived - delicious (especially with the optional wine flight) and an excellent value. Service was friendly and attentive. Room was updated and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the sunrise over the mountains. Highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed at the Sunset Hill House for one Saturday night. We arrived in the afternoon after skiing. The place was just as amazing as we remembered when we stayed there 6+ years ago. It was well worth the drive. All the staff members were extremely friendly and accommodating, I don't believe service could be any better than what they offer there. Food and the restaurant was out of this world!! While the room was a little aged, compared to the age of the House, it is in amazing condition. We had a room with a huge jacuzzi, a nice modern touch to an older House. On top of that, the Value was just out of this world for what you got with your reservation.

We stayed at Sunset Hill Inn with my elderly mother, our children and dog during February vacation. What a treat! The views are incredible, the rooms lovely, spacious, charming and comfortable, the service friendly and flexible, and the gourmet food was fantastic and generous. The grounds and golf course provided hours of pleasure for xc skiing and snowshoeing. There was no need to go anywhere else during our stay there. I highly recommend.

Until we drove up to Sunset Hill House at sunset, we'd forgotten how beautiful it is. So charming, and the food is great! We felt as if Nancy would do anything to make our stay memorable.

The Inn was very welcoming and the people very friendly. When in need of assistance, everyone was very helpful offering good exploration destinations as well as directions. The food and the accomadations were also good.

We've been to Sunset Hill House several times and always request the same room. It's sunny and faces the White Mountains and has an outdoor deck enclosed on three sides. I only gave the room 4 stars as the inn is old and bits of wallpaper are loose and the window shade has a tear. The same view of the mountains from the dining room is not to be believed; it's spectacular, especially when snow is on the peaks! Nancy is a wonderful host and is the one to prepare breakfast from the kitchen, although there is fruit, coffee, juice, yogurt, muffins, etc. on the sideboard for self service while waiting for the hot plates. Nancy delivers them personally so she can greet each table. Dinner menu selections are very varied and prepared and presented so well. Cleanliness at 4 stars has nothing to do with the inn itself, it's just that the walkway was not totally cleared of snow from several days previous. No matter, we will return for another visit, perhaps in the summer when we can enjoy the pool.

We had a very nice stay at the Sunset Hill House over the holidays in early January 2013. It is our second time at Sunset Hill House. While we had a couple of issues with the fireplace not working and one or two other items - the food was excellent, the staff are super friendly and helpful, and the stay was a real treat. Highly recommended!

My husband and I decided to stay here for our one year wedding anniversary. We had a fantastic time! We had a room with a fireplace and jetted tub, which was amazing. The dining was outstanding and we loved the views from the dining room at breakfast. We also enjoyed snowshoeing out back and took advantage of the discount ski tickets/rentals at Bretton Woods. We will definitely go back!

I was looking forward to my visit, having read excellent reviews on this Inn. the drive up is gorgeous, you go through a quaint little to only to see the Sunset Hill House on a majestic hill in the distance- but the people are the magic of the place, smiling, helpful attentive and caring. They clearly love working here and appreciate their guests. The rooms are all different and unique,large bathrooms are great. The water pressure is abundant as is the hot water. the food was amazing, and a delightful surprise. On a Wednesday night, Halloween no less, the dining room was practically full. Just about everything, including dessert is made in their kitchen. From appetizer to dessert, the meal was delightful and delicious. Just when I thought I could eat no more, HOMEMADE chocolates! This is one of those special places that is a rare find. I will be back!

From the time we entered, throughout our stay we were treated exceptionally well. the staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was so inviting with spectacular views all around. We began our stay with a great round of golf and ended our day with cocktails on the porch. A great place to come, relax and enjoy life. We have to mention Marion, our waitress, who made our dinner more enjoyable.

Loved golfing at the oldest nine hole course in NH. The Inn is lovely, the food outstanding and the service exceptional. Our dinner waitress Marion, may have been the best waitress we have ever had-she's a keeper! We'll be back!

We had a wonderful stay at Sunset Hill House. As a young, mid-20's couple, we got a great deal on the Master Suite Hill House 1 that we couldn't pass up and felt like royalty during our stay. A two-person jacuzzi tub with mountain views and a steam shower. Outstanding food for both breakfast (stuffed french toast) and dinner. The staff was wonderful and charming - always available to answer questions, recommend activities, or just for a pleasant chat. If we lived any closer than Albany, NY (4hr drive) I'm sure we would be there more often. If we can find time to go again, we definitely will. The only displeasing part of our stay was the lack of places in the room to put our winter gear (boots, coats, hats, etc.) when we came in from outside. No closet, no coat rack, and not mat for our boots made for some wet spots on the floor and rug that we stepped in. However, if we had gone in the summer I would not have even noticed that these were lacking from the room. Overall, it is a wonderfully charming place with better views of the White Mountains than I have seen anywhere else.

The chef is very talented, the views were amazing, the staff very helpful and the snow-shoeing trails perfect. We had a fabulous two day vacation.

A wonderful stay filled with unbelievable views of the White and Green Mountains, friendly staff and great food. Lots to do outdoors and in the area, but watching the light change on the mountains and the clouds shift form was all we needed to keep us busy!

Sunset Hill House is a beautiful and charming old house. We went there for a cozy weekend getaway. The food is fantastic, as is the staff! The only negative comment is that the room had no TV. Everything else was just wonderful!

My sister and brother-in-law gave us a night at the Sunset Hill House as our wedding gift. While we are not big Bed and Breakfast people, we had a very quiet, enjoyable, relaxing stay at the Sunset Hill House. Highlights included the lobster quesadilla at the tavern, BREAKFAST and some great walking around the golf course and trails behind the inn. Thanks for a great time!

just a one night thanksgiving week getaway for my wife and me.saw the deal on living social email and took advantage.been in the area many times(polly's pancake parlor,sugar hill sampler,harmans cheese,etc.)but never stayed at sunset hill.we will definitely return and would highly reccomend.had some great raspberry chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast while looking out at the beautiful white mountains.

We stayed with Nancy and the Sunset Hill House folks the weekend before Thanksgiving 2012 as it was the perfect launching off place for our "northern 2nd home search". Everything was terrific; so good, in fact, we've decided to live there versus on our own. We spend a very long day Saturday house hunting but we were bolstered by a fabulous homemade breakfast that actaully carried us all the way through until dinner. All the meals were 5 star - Chef Brill is outstanding. Each night we opted for the Innkeeper's Table which included an appetizer (loved the Lobster Bisque), Salad (real Caesar dressing, need I say more?!?), a sorbet, an entree (the veal was like butter and the marsalla top notch, and dessert (the best Creme Brulee ever, and I've had a lot). I really enjoyed four dinners total because I had something different Friday and Saturday and then helped myself to my husband's dinners - much to his dismay, but he was a good sport and he let me try what he had ordered. Our room was lovely with a bow window and an impressive view of the mountains. The gas fireplace in our room only made the room more cozy and inviting. I never post anything online, but this was such a terrific weekend that I have no qualms heartily recommending Sunset Hill House. We will continue to make this our launch pad during our house hunt, and as potential new neighbors, we know we'll be frequent dinner patrons. Happy holidays! Michelle and Bill P.

Unsurpassed, knock your socks off views of the White Mountains...no traffic noises... THIS is a real getaway retreat! We brought our elderly yellow lab, our 8-year old daughter, and the inn welcomed us with open arms. The staff is delightful, the food is fabulous. Our room was very comfortable, though a bit quirky, and clean. We would definitely go again, perhaps in the summer when we can enjoy the golf course too.

We dined on a superb five-course dinner and woke up to a stunning mountain view. And yet, the atmosphere is relaxed and the service excelllent and friendly.

Ribeye that melts in your mouth, succulent lamb, beet salad - yum. Incredible views. Happy employees with servant attitudes. (Good)

The views were spectacular and the staff very friendly. But, there were too many 'little' things that marred our stay that reflect a lack of attention to detail and training. For example: the coverlet on our bed was filthy. Then, we spent the next half hour killing flies. As we used tissue to scoop up the dead flies, we noticed that the roll was almost depleted-- with no extras in the cabinet. So, late at night, we're back to the front desk asking for toilet paper. The next morning at breakfast, there was a bug in the orange juice! The OJ jar had a lid on it! So it had to get in there in the kitchen. The food was good. But, when I was brought hard fried eggs instead of the 'soft, scrambled' I requested, the server's response was 'oh, yeah.... well, can you cut into it and see if it's alright?' When we partook in what the Inn described as "Fine Dining", the food was good, except for the runny and inedible creme brulee. We mentioned it to our teenage server, and her response was 'oh, I'll have to let them know that.' In a "Fine Dining" establishment, the response is an immediate: "I'm so sorry, the ???? is excellent tonight, may I bring that out, instead?" Also-- when we asked for a second spoon so spouse could try it-- our server looked perplexed-- and said "hmm... I'll see if I can 'rustle' one up." Again, NOT fine dining. There were no instructions in our room on how to turn on the fireplace. When we called the front desk, the person that answered didn't know either. But, wanted to know if we wanted to "bother the innkeeper", or "could it wait?" Fortunately, the professional staff person that checked us in (that made such a great impression) must have heard and was soon at our door to quickly explain. It was SO simple. How about a little card in the room with the information? We saw good intentions everywhere; but, the staff needs to be better trained and more attention paid to the 'little' details.

Any issue presented by a guest will be resolved to your entire satisfaction immediately - that is my promise to you! You are absolutely correct that your room was not ready til immediately before the wedding. Check in is at 3pm, and if i recall correctly the wedding started at 3. We worked very hard and were glad to get you in even a little bit early. I am sorry you feel that that is poor service- I'm not sure how to address that. I felt my staff really went the extra mile to accommodate you early, with many check outs a full house arriving that day. thank you though for your feedback. I will share your comments with my staff for their input for improvement as well.

A wonderfull experience...it was like going back in time.....The inn has not lost its charm of years ago which is refreshing as many inns have been ruined by renovations that bring us to this era....Would definitely return

We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms which was done very well and had a nice view. Surprised at how great the food was, and we are very picky eaters. We had breakfast both mornings which was really fantastic and a great variety of things to pick from, also ate at the tavern one night which was also extremely good. Sat at the bar chatting with a very friendly bartender who even had us taste test a few new drinks she was putting together. Very helpful staff when asked for advice on hikes at front desk, although I was surprised they didn't have a AMC hiking guide or similar for people to look through. We were admittedly there during one of their busiest weekends of the year at the peak of foliage, but the breakfast seating seemed understaffed and the coffee had run out when we first got there. The inn is old, which is cool, a neat part of history. And I do love the charm that the old inn has, but I do wish it was a little more stylish in the common areas. The tired carpet, dated floral wall paper and decorations and brass fixtures are just a little too early 90s. I'd much prefer to see them with more the style of when the inn was constructed rather than the 90s, but the newly renovated room was very well done. All in all it was a great stay. We had wanted to book the Mt Washington Hotel but it was full and although I'd still rather stay there if I had the choice, we were very pleasantly surprised at Sunset Hill House, particularly the food!

The inn was very quaint, albiet needing some paint and minor repairs in places. A few minor things such as tissues in the bathroom and a shower door that stayed shut without having to reach above six feet to move a wooden stop would have been nice, but overall the room was very quiet and comfortable. Meals were very good and breakfast was included with price of room which made the room a fair price. Meals had somewhat unusual offerings and were very tasty, although menu had limited number of offering. Portions were just enough - plenty of the main entree, but a little slight on the sides, especially the vegetables (i.e. 5 green beans with my excellent roast duckling). Pricewise, thought meals were a little on the high side. In the morning, had to wait 10-15 minutes to get a table and then wait in line to make toast and wait for tea water. Self-serve breakfast area could be better organized and stocked/refilled, but food we ordered to be made up was very good (my husband though the omelet had a bit too much mushroom, but my pumpkin pancakes were excellent!) Overall had a very nice stay and plan to go back at least once in warmer weather when we can see some of the wildflowers in the back of the building in bloom and it is not so cold and windy that we shorten our walk of the many paths in the back of the inn.

so glad you enjoyed most of your stay. it can be very very busy (and we cant control it) when everyone in house (all 60 guests) decide to get up and have breakfast at the same time. I apologize you had to wait. Usually things are quieter early (7:30-8:30), but much is weather and 'mood' dependent. If only I could control that! We often 'overstuff' omelets - if you want a smaller one, just ask! Special orders are often a pleasure for me. Beautiful area to visit. The view of the mountains in the fall are spectacular. The front desk people were great, buy room service could have been better. This was our second stay at the inn. The restaurant was very good!

Had a nice experience during our two night stay at SunsetHill House. People were all very friendly, very nice breakfast, all in all very nice. Really enjoyed our fireplace in the room.

Charming ambiance with a million dollar view of white mountains of NH in the back and green mountains of VT in the front. Incredibly friendly and accomodating staff, especially Nancy the innkeeper who was more than happy to provide us with seconds of an amazingly delicious, hearty country breakfast. Dinner at their award winning restaurant is a special treat...gourmet food cooked to perfection, excellent reasonably priced wines, and again..that fabulous not to miss view.

We recently stayed at Sunset Hill for two nights and we enjoyed it very much! The room was great and very quiet. So much character! The views are amazing. We enjoyed the fine dining and the meal was beyond perfect. The wine was spectacular and the service outstanding. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Couldn't ask for anything more. We paid $260 for one night and with that price tag comes some expectations. We thought we'd opted for a lovely B&B experience instead of staying at a generic chain. What we got was truly a disappointment. The Hill House looks like a cross between a boarding house and an old hotel, complete with dirty carpets, chipping paint and old yard sale furniture with bad mattresses. None of the pictures on the website depict the room we stayed in. Breakfast was lovely, but that was the only thing that I would use that adjective for.

You are right- Hill House is our 'value' building - several of the rooms have not been renovated (but are scheduled to be!), and they are priced accordingly - which has me perplexed as they are nowhere near $260/night!!! Can you contact me so I can look up your charges and make sure they were correct? I wish you had let me know at the time that you were disappointed. We promise every guest that if there is any problem at all we will resolve it to your satisfaction immediately (short of the weather and other Acts of God!). I'm sorry we didnt have the chance to do that for you. I do hope you'll email or call me!

My husband and I made our first trip to see the foliage last week. The Sunset Hill House contacted us before we ever left town to see if we needed any special accommodations. I requested sugar free syrup and it was waiting for me. Our room was 308.. very clean, huge jacuzzi tub, comfortable bed. We loved the special soap with the hole in the middle and took extra home! The help was friendly and the desk gave us many tips on what to see and do in the area. We had a fabulous time. The breakfast is delicious and the view awesome. This property is lovely! We were there for 5 nights and hated to leave! Thanks!

I had a very pleasant stay and would def, go back. The staff was exceptionally friendly and the food was incredible. The room was clean, small but okay for one person. I would definitely recommend this Inn to anyone.

We were looking for a close overnight in order to attend the Highland Games in Lincoln. This B&B fit the bill. On arrival we were greeted by a very nice front desk host. Although it was her first day, and she was being coached, she will certainly do well. We felt welcome and she took care of us quickly. Our room was clean and comfortable. A few comments on housekeeping are in order so they can improve. We were lacking any bathroom amenities. The front desk quickly assisted us with that. On the minus-side, it was apparent that the floor above us was used as a private residence. There were toys strewn on the inside stairs leading up, and on our outside deck stairs was thrown a trashy rug. Considering the upscale image of the rest of the hotel, this was very out of place, but easily overlooked. Dinner dining was very nice. We opted to eat in the Tavern, and our lady bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was awesome. Breakfast was a different matter, and a little awkward. It seemed the two young ladies working the tables were constantly in need of prodding for utensils, bread, coffee at the buffet table, etc. When I asked for an omelet prepared without onions, the response was that 'sometimes' the chef would balk at special requests. Having cooked professionally myself, I offered to cook it myself. One omelet was runny and very undercooked, with an unheated cheese interior. Basic French cookery 101. Perhaps it was a bad day? In any case, these are small items and easily cured. In all we enjoyed the experience, will recommend this B&B to our good friends, and will hope to enjoy it in the future.

Thanks for your great comments - I will absolutely do a bit of retraining with our breakfast girls, and address the toys issue with our assistant innkeeper (she has a delightful 7 year old, who occasionally 'forgets' to put things away - as 7 year olds are wont to do... I apologize. They are good folks, and I wouldn't trade them for the world, but like all of us are not always at their best (and clearly this was the case). I appreciate the information!

My husband and I were looking for a nice relaxing time away from home. He is an avid golfer and I like to shop. We both got what we came for. The Inn had a very warm atmosphere with lovely scenery from our room of the White Mountains. One couldn't ask for more.

Hotel is great to getaway from the hustle and bustle.. Relax in and eat at the great restaurant.

Used a travel zoo deal for a first time stay at this Inn. Rooms and view were wonderful. All of the staff were friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to make our stay special. Meals were delicious in both dining room and the tavern. On top of all this, our deal included unlimited golf at their course. We most definitely will return.

My husband & I just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary this past weekend at the Sunset Hill House in Sugar Hill, NH. This was our first experience staying at an inn. My husband was unsure at first claiming he thought he would prefer a hotel. Thankfully, the experience at Sunset Hill House has changed his feelings. While the views are stunning, what really made our trip special & memorable was the excellent service of the staff and the mouthwatering cusine. From the full hearty breakfast to the impecable 5 course dinner, we left the inn relunctantly having never before been treated to such gourmet treats. We are already planning our return!

On first glance, the room seemed okay. However, the duvet had a couple of stains, the jetted tub could not have fit two people, someone felt the need to play the piano (on the other side of the wall of our room) at 8:00 am. We would still go back and try a different room (we were on the first floor) as the views are stunning, food is delectable and the staff definitely tries to please (we tried to move rooms but were unable due to availability). It would have been nice to have been given a voucher for something given our lack of pleasure with the room but alas it was not extended. Still go and enjoy a room on an upper floor facing the white mountains and indulge in the food! Yummy!

we almost invited ourselves to stay for wedding that was being held there the next day/ can see why people get married there- good place to build memories.

Everyone was very nice and went out of their way to make sure our needs were met. I was a little disapointed with the dinner and the romance package, which I thought were both over priced for what they were. Overall I think it was high priced for two nights even with the deal of the day discount.

All I can say is that my wife and did not want to leave. The quality of the complete package just blew us away. Staying there for 3 nights for my sons wedding was really a pleasure. The staff went beyond amazing. When ever we needed any thing it was like they came out of thin air. My wife accidently stained her shawl during cocktails and the wedding planner came over and took the shawl to be cleaned and within minutes had it back to her without even being asked. The rooms where very inviting, warm and comfortable. It was very difficult chosing which room we wanted to stay in. They all had something different to offer. Each one seemed nicer then the next. And the views are breath taking. This is what living in New England is all about. The quality of the food, it's presentation, quantity and taste was on par with any resturant I have ever dinned in. The selection also made it difficult to decide. And the deserts, what can I say. All I need now is to find the time when I can plan a return trip. I don't even need a reason. I hope everyone who gets to read this review gets the opportunity to visit the Inn even if it is just for dinner. You won't be disappointed. And if you are planning a wedding or any other event for that matter, you won't find a more rewarding location to have it. A. Frigon

We need a weekend away after a crazy busy summer just to do whatever. The incredible service started when we called to make a reservation. Karen the front deck person was so helpful from beginning to end. She gave us the best room in the Inn. We spent a quite Friday evening and a wonderful nights sleep on the very comfortable bed. Woke up early (as this is what we do) to the smell of food cooking downstairs in the Kitchen. Went in for our complimentry breakfast which was delicious and small but perfect portions. Also a small but great selection. We wanted to go for a hike and ask Karen again and she recommend Bridal Veil Falls which is a 5 mile hike round trip which was exactly what we wanted. I would recommend it to anyone up in the area. After our hike we had a small picnic on the pretty grounds of the Inn and just relaxed the afternoon. Dressed for dinner, had a cocktail in the small bar and proceeded to dinner. The food was top notch ( and I have a very picky husband when it comes to food.... only the best!) Had a wonderful second night sleep and played a little golf on the course right across the street. I really loved it here and we WILL BE BACK. Thank you for a much needed weekend away!!

When you pull up to the Sunset Hill House, you will be astonished by the view of the beautiful White Mountains. Located in the quaint town of Sugar Hill, you are far enough away from busy travelers but close enough to enjoy a good time. I spent most of my time in the Notch, seeking out new adventures every day, and was able to unwind and enjoy the delicious food and views of Sunset Hill House.

When you find this B&B in the internet you get a very good impression. We believe that this has been like on the photos some years ago. Today you see everywhere that the owner is not taking care of this nice house at all. It is run down. Just everything is dirty including the bed. At the same time it is quite expensive. Unfortunately the breakfast was also on the same bad level. We where happy when we left the place.

My husband surprised me with a weekend get away to Sunset Hill House in Sugar Hill, NH for our 28th wedding Anniversary. This place is magical and romantic. We were treated to a 3 course wine tasting dinner, relaxed with new friends reading trivia cards in the tavern and played 9 holes of golf surrounded by the Green and White mountains. Just perfect.

We loved the view from our room. A suggestion would be to hang darker curtains. Once the sun comes up, the room is so bright it is impossible to sleep a little later. Karen at the front desk was very nice and accomodating. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome.

Food is outstanding and delicious. Rooms are clean and homey. Outstanding view of White Mountains. Service is excellent.

After booking on internet, we did not know what to expect. Surprist the property is beautiful, Rooms real nice but the real surprise is the dining experience is one of the best we had in a long time and the service is wonderful.

Cons: They stop serving breakfast at 9:30a and no food is available until 5p-8p when they serve dinner. No mini fridge in room. Our balcony was much smaller and less private than expected. The outside of the house did not look as nice as on the website. The house looked like it was in serious need of a paint job. Pros: The food was outstanding and the views of the White Mountains were as beautiful as advertised. Green Mountain views much less spectacular but nice sunsets.

I believe you were in room 205 - that balcony is 6'x10', but it might seem smaller as it is enclosed on the long side, and 4' on each of the short sides, making it nice and private. I apologize that we didnt communicate well with you that we were indeed in the process of scraping and painting the inn during your stay (we try not to scrape and paint on weekends or times of high occupancy so we dont disturb our valued guests)- so yes, you are absolutely right. We were in serious need of painting - and were in the middle of doing it! I will pass your delightful comments about the food to our chef Brill Williams. He and our staff will be very pleased. thank you once again. I hope we'll be able to welcome you back soon!

We stumbled upon Sunset Hill House website last minute before Labor Day, and then got the discounted rate with BedandBreakfast.com. The rate was very reasonable and we were able to get a bridal suite at this discounted rate. The inn is an older home, but that in itself makes you feel like you have escaped far away from the city, and that was great. The innkeepers and staff take great pride in creating the most wonderful experience for you. The rooms are spacious, quiet, nicely decorated. Many (maybe most) rooms have balconies and our room had a jacuzzi. Rooms were immaculately clean - A+ to the cleaning staff. The mattress was very comfortable (you just lay down on it and forget all your troubles at once). Waking up to this wonderful sunrise facing a field of wild flowers and magnificent mountains at the horizon - is an unbelievable experience. The views are spectacular no matter what room you are staying in, and there is a golf course on premises if you play golf. Breakfast was nice too. I had a lobster omelet, which was very delicious. Overall - we had a great mini-vacation that is unforgettable.

This was our second stay at Sunset Hill & we were even more pleased this time. Updates were evident & created an even more welcoming arrival. We could only stay one night, which happened to be a full moon. We booked through bedandbreakfast.com & got the most beautiful King room with Jacuzzi tub for only $115.00 !!!!! That night the full moon shone thru our windows so beautiful & we wandered out onto the back lawn & danced in the moonlight. The next morning there was a short glitch with the new updated water pump system but it was quickly taken care of. (Hey, these things happen to everyone once in a while ! ) Once fixed my morning shower was awesome as I could stand with my back to the shower & look out the second story window with the blinds open & view the sunrise across the valley & up the White Mts. Awesome experience. Hope to get back up there for leaf peeping season.

Loved this INN ... Quiet, Clean, and most of all the entire staff was VERY nice and helpful! We have stayed all over the country and Sunset Inn is on our top 5 places we will def. re-visit!

Had a great time. Raven was an outstanding bartender!! I forgot our dinner waitress' name, (she had a problem with her foot) but she was an outstanding waitress. Dinner food was outstanding!!!!!!!

My wife and I spent 2 nights on a travelzoo deal. Never used travelzoo or stayed at a Inn in New Hampshire before. What we got was great value and a totaly relaxing 2 days. After reading other reviews the room was basicly what I expected, very confortable King bed jacuzzi tub, lovely view and very clean everthing that was promised. It is an old building though and the trim is original quaint but a little rough. The halls are a little narrow and could use a little more upkeep in the stairwell area which left a poor first impression, but we soon got over it, realizing that the rest of the inn seems to be well maintained. The true value is the not the inn itself or the nine hole golf coarse which was a great place to walk as it is not to long and play best ball with my wife who has only played a couple of times as it's not to stressed. Nor is it the outstanding tastes of every dish we ate in the restaurant. The true value is the staff. At the outset the young receptionist asked us to let them know of any problems and if they were fixible they would be fixed. As it turned out there was a slight problem with the reservation. When I mentioned it, the owner said she would look into it. The next day it was fixed in a more than generous way. These people are honest, hospitable people that truely value their clients and want them to enjoy their stay and do everything in their power so that they do. A great place to relax.

I wanted to find just the right place to take my wife away without the kids for the first time in a very long time. I stumbled across a great deal on travelzoo and off we went. First, I just have to say that the concierge was absolutely one of the nicest people I have ever met. Just genuinely nice, easy to talk to, and couldn't have been more helpful. Second, the Inn and the grounds were just breathtaking. We felt like we were a million miles away. Finally, every morsel of food we had was fantastic. Free, cooked to order breakfast that is outstanding is not something you see everyday. Rooms arent huge for sure but they were extremely comfortable and immaculate. Surprisingly modern for an older inn. I can't wait to go back again. What else is there to say?

We got there early and were allowed to watch TV in the bar which was cool. I love that this place was so dog friendly. Although it is not always allowed, our dog played golf with us because there were not any people on the course, that was awesome. This really helped out the value of the place vs. all other places that dont allow pets. The views are great. The doors in the hallways are very loud, you should put some padding on the doorways(or anything for that matter) to reduce the banging. The bar didnt have hours it seemed, it was kind of open if people wanted it to be open, which was good, and bad, and confusing. The food was ok, could use some help. The people were very nice.

My wife and I stopped over en route to Quebec City and Charlevoix. Sunset Hill House was a perfect stop. We stayed in room 201, and had several beautiful views of the mountains. The service of the staff was fantastic throughout our short visit. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was our dinner. We ordered the Innkeeper's Table, and had some for the best food we have eaten. Starting with a huge Lobster Bisque (more like a stew with good lobster chunks), we went on to a great salad, and sorbet. I ordered the Ribeye special, and it was superb. In all, it was a great dining experience. Breakfast the next day was also excellent. The only tip that I would give would be to ask about wifi, if it is important to you. Our room, 201, was a good distance from the router, so service dropped regularly. Perhaps it was a call from above not to use my iPad in such a beautiful location! If wifi is important, check with the inn when you book. In all, it was a wonderful, albeit short stay. I would recommend highly. .

A little understaffed. Iron-- no ironing board. Hangers-- no closet or rack. One door hook. Exposed outlets in the most inconvenient places. Radio clock-- set to the wrong time and unusable. AC barely worked. Ice bucket-- no ice machine. Must go to kitchen or bar which close ridiculously at 8pm.

I'm sorry you were disapointed, and wish you had let us know while you were here so that we could have assisted you better. We have a promise, in writing, to all our guests that we will do all within our power to make your stay absolutely perfect. In this case I think you were under some misperceptions, and we could have easily assisted you. Irons and ironing boards are kept at the front desk - just ask. Similarly, if you had difficulty with your alarm clock or a/c we would have been glad to fix it for you, immediately, and to your absolute satisfaction. Yes, we are an older building (built in 1880!) and there is a paucity of outlets in handy places in a few rooms - but fortunately the foundational wiring has been upgraded and can easily support an outlet strip if you had needed one. Fire code prevents us from keeping those in the rooms, but they are available upon request. Our tavern is open for beverages all day. Dinner service starts at 5:30 and closes after the last reservation or guest departs, with the last formal seating being about 8:30. Late arriving guests (or those about to expire from starvation) we can resuscitate with salads, cheese, crackers, ice cream and other treats from the kitchen that don't require a chef to prepare. Ice is always available at the front desk, from 6am to midnight at a minimum. thank you for allowing me the opportunity to respond. Next time, whether here or elsewhere, if you experience any dissatisfaction whatsoever please let us know!

As we turned on Sunset Hill Road, our grins were from ear to ear as the as yet unknown exact location of the Sunset Hill House became clear. we were giddy with excitement as our choice of Inn based only on web information and photos, happened to be the dream we were hoping it would be. Not only is the view as good as the Mt. Washington Hotel, it was off the beaten path, which is ideal for peace and privacy. We stayed in the Hill House, with a deck overlooking the green mountains and golf course. Because we spent two days hiking in and around the basin, we didn't get to play, but we will next time we go back. Lon the innkeeper made a personal visit to our breakfast table one morning, and we found the restaurant food to be all we needed and never ventured out, except for one sandwich for lunch. If you want to renew your spirit and soul, this is one place that can deliver.

My husband and I wanted a night away, so we stayed during the week. The room was very clean and decorated very nice. The views are spectacular, and the breakfast was wonderful. On the down side, there is no TV in the room and the "heated pool" was very cold. Also the back of the House and pool area are in need of some TLC.

Though our pool is heated, much of the heat comes from our solar panels, so the temperature of the pool can fluctuate, even depending on the weather! You are correct that not all of our rooms have televisions. Many rooms do not, simply because we hope that in an area such as where we are located you will be spending your time exploring. We do have complimentary wi-fi, and televisions are certainly available upon request, just ask! As for the back of the Inn, we have recently started a large painting project, and hope to have a fair amount done before it gets much chillier! We stayed at the Sunset Hill House for a weekend while in town for a wedding. The location is breathtaking and the weather was just about perfect. Our room was cozy and we enjoyed our king sized bed. We went on one of Nancy's tours - a great way to experience the area! Would definitely come back any time of year.

This inn offered great views of the mountains, friendly staff and excellent accommodations. The food was fine but did not warrant the high price we payed for it.

We were looking to stay in NH, and happened upon a deal at this Inn. What a pleasant SURPRISE, it had a beautiful view, our room (you had to walk through the bathroom) had a deck that overlooked the golf course!! It was great. We had drinks on the deck that overlooked MT Washington, and then we went to an awesome dinner. 5 Courses, it was one of the best meals we ever had!! We had played a round of golf before drinks, and then the next morning after our wonderful breakfast. We can't wait to go back...very soon!!!

My first time visiting New England and the Inn was a treat. The room was perfect setting for the mountain environment, I was taken back in time and loved every minute of my visit.

Althought a short stay, would certainly return when traveling in the area.

My second visit and there will be more. This is one of the most pet friendly and people friendly inns that we have visited. The atmosphere and the food is outstanding. The people here all make you feel welcome. We also enjoyed the little 9 hole golf course.

We recently visited Sunset Hill House on August 3rd for a friends wedding. Everything was amazing right down to the gourmet breakfast. Our room was cozy and comfortable,especially with the fantastic spa tub! I have never seen more beautiful grounds or view anywhere and would highly recommend Sunset Hill House to anyone looking for romantic getaway. I expected the breakfast to be good, your usual run of the mill fare. I was so wrong! I have never been offered such unique options before where all of them sounded fabulous. The waitress even suggested having a side sampling of one the the other choices, which I thankfully took her up on. Hands down best breakfast anywhere! We will definitely be back! We had a very nice stay at the SHH. It was populated, yet quiet and peaceful...exactly what we were looking for. The location was very close to everything we wanted to see and do. Finally, the staff was very friendly and extremely helpful in guiding us in the right direction and making some suggestions that turned out to be great.

I was at the Sunset Hill in for a wedding in July and I was blown away by the beauty, service, and cleanliness. Very comfortable and excellent staff!

The staff were all very friendly and profession and the Innkeepers very helpful. The views are lovely. The breakfast had variety and was well prepared. My only complaint is that the room description from the website gave me some expectations which were not fully met, but which did not detract from the overall enjoyment of my stay.

We came to Sunset Hill House thru Travelzoo, and didnt know what to wxpect. We were most plesantly surprised by the above average service, super room and the dining room just blew us away This was a great value, and we will certainly return next year

While it was a brief stay, it was a wonderful stay. The staff at the Sunset Hill House was welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The Sunset Hill House is beautifully decorated and furnished. We enjoyed an outstanding dinner and full breakfast prepared by a new chef - excellent! There are wonderful views of 2 mountain ranges; the best being from behind the Sunset Hill House, facing the White Montains. The sun sets in front of the Sunset Hill House, which is also where a small parking lot is located across the street, as well as the golf course.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, food was absolutely delicious, and the views from the inn are amazing.

We spent a long weekend at Sunset Hill House, set on top of a hill with beautiful views from every window. And the owners and employees were cheerful and plesant. I certainly felt safe at Sunset Hill House. It's a beautiful historical building with fitting ambiance.

Our stay more than met our expectations. The Inn Keeper was great and the entire staff were very friendly. The rooms were nice and could use some additional attention with their windows and ac unites. Great location for all kinds of out door activites in the notch.

Just spent 4 nights at the inn and 3 days painting the spactacular views. Perfect comfortable setting to relax with friends and feel completly at home. The staff were extreemly helpful and made us feel like family.

Pleasantly surprised with a beautiful room. It was nice and cool after a long hot ride. Golf was laid back and not the least bit intimidating for a beginner. Very forgiving. Dinner was awesome. My husband still can't get over the lava cake. The weekend will be well remembered.

This place is such a pleasure. We went here for just one night with our kids and the staff was very accommodating. There were no shades on the window in the adjacent room we had for the children but the staff quickly tried to rig something with a blanket which did help. The rooms were very clean and we had a good night sleep. The included breakfast, is not a quickly put together continental type of deal, it is a full service, anything you want on the menu type of deal. Wow. A sweet and nice family runs the thing, where the girls were kindly teasing their mother at the front desk. Thank you, we will be back again. Highly recommended.

Stayed for several days. Enjoyed stay immensely. beautiful surroundings, numerous activities, excellent cuisine and exceptional staff.

From the time we arrived until the time we left less than 24 hours later, we were treated like their favorite family members! Everyone from the desk clerk to the waitstaff to the other guests to the owner were so very nice and accommodating! We had dinner and breakfast, and the food was wonderful - far beyond expectations! The room was comfy, and had a fantastic view of the White Mtns - near and far. The grounds were quite pleasant to walk around and we enjoyed the wild flowers galore! A beautiful place to stay inside and out! Thank you!

Don't expect the place to not show a little character at 130 yrs old, it's part of the experience. Find yourself a promotional rate inbetween seasons and you won't regret it, makes for an amazing weekend.

We had a wonderful two night stay at this beautiful old inn. The food in the fine diningroom was wonderful and breakfast was excellant as well. Stay at least two nights to get the real feel of this fine property.

This is a wonderful old Inn. Our room had magnificent mountain views from our balcony. We loved the jacuzzi too. Our stay included a 3 course dinner which was delicious as well as a full breakfast. Service was very good. All of the employees were attentive and helpful. Would definitelt go back.

Staff is very nice and helpful. The young ladies serving breakfast are sweet and accomadating. Our breakfast(s) were wonderful and came with a good selection of hot and cold items. Our room was very spacious, comfortable and the view was excellent. The location of the inn is unbeatable. We understand the inn is old, but certain areas in and around the inn need some TLC. Painting and replacement of the worn carpet would help. The dinner menu is limited and the items listed just didn't peak our interest. However, talking with another couple that ate in the dining room said their dinner was excellent. The front desk didn't have area maps or a listing of area restaurants we picked up that info at another inn in the area. We did love our stay and would return in the future just better perpared with maps and restaurants lisiting.

This was my third stay at Sunset Hill House. I have stayed in both Winter and Summer climates. Tha attention to detail yet the relaxed atmosphere lends to an always wonderful stay. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is always great and the visuals are the best. Throw in a Native American Storyteller and artist couple and the weekend was as perfect a weekend as you could find. Thank you Sunset Hill House. See you again!

My wife and I and another couple were at the Sunset Hill House last Sunday - Tuesday. Although the weather was less than perfect we had a grat time. I have to give credit to the Inn keepers and employees for the work that they do to make the experience memorable. It is a nice break from the standard hotel stay. The location is beautiful. The views are spectacular. The people are very friendly and accomodating. If you play golf there is a 9 hole par 33 golf course across the street that was part of our package. It is not the best manicured course in the state but it is the oldest. It has character and plenty of scenery. We played 72 holes. Walking it from the back tees is a good work out. The rooms are great (all different) and the dining is supurb. You will not be disappointed visiting this B&B. I'm going back.

Sunset Hill House offers a spectacular view of the Franconia & Presidential ranges, arguably the best you can find, along with gracious service and an excellent menu for dining. The personable service is a relief after being at impersonal chain hotels, and you meet some interesting folks there as well.

We stayed at the Sunset Hill House from Sunday to Monday of Memorial Day weekend after purchasing a deal from Travelzoo for $150 for a one night stay, 30 dollar food or 50 dollar wine credit in the dining room, breakfast and green fees for the golf course or mountain bike rentals. The room was very nice, I loved the claw foot tub and the mountain view. The sink area was small and I wish there were a full length mirror somewhere in the room. The back of the property was beautiful with gorgeous mountain views, we had the 5 course innkeepers dinner (which was delicious) by one of the back windows and it was beautiful! The bar in the tavern closed a little early I thought, but maybe its because we're used to being in the city. The dinner was a little pricey, but the wine credit and selection of wines with reasonable prices was an excellent surprise. I would definitely return sometime in the fall for a foliage overnight!

What a great weekend! We were greeted by Karen, who was a joy to talk with. Our rooms offered a gorgeous view! Breakfast was delicious. Treated ourselves to dessert and coffee in the tavern...YUM! The inn keepers were more than accomodating and provided great local info. Fabulous weekend...exactly what we needed!

Incredibly friendly staff and excellent food are the main attractions. Nearby Cannon Mountain ski resort is a great place to learn for first-time skiers. Nearby town of Littleton has the world's longest candy counter, and Italian Oasis brewery with a great stout. Room lacked some modern conveniences, and something in the hall beeped at night. Wifi connection was very slow.

Hi thank you for your review! I'm sorry you found your room only 'so so' - some rooms in this historic property are outfitted with original fixtures dating to the 1800s - definitely NOT modern! But other rooms are completely modernized. Next time you visit us, tell us what you prefer, and we'll absolutely make sure the room fits you and your needs. After all, with 30 rooms and no two the same, we have a wide variety to choose from! Wifi? yep - it can be slow sometimes if a lot of folks are accessing it. we're looking into an upgrade now, but are limited somewhat by the bandwidth available in the region. I just feel fortunate we have wifi - so many others rely on satellite modems up here, and we are DSL! Looking forward to welcoming you back!

We were greeted cheerfully and respectfully when we came. We always have many questions. The innkeepers were very helpful and friendly. Waitresses were very up to kidding around with us. We were here for cross country, but there was no snow. They had a deal at Brettonwoods which we took and had an enjoyable day. Everything worked out right and we would love to come back.

Accommodations, food, and hospitality were exceptional. Warm & friendly atmosphere. We definitely will return.

Exceptional B&B. All rooms have a view of mountains. Our room was immaculate and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. Dinner was 5-star and the service was also 5-star. We would return!

Very friendly staff, most especially Amanda and Lynn. Excellent food -- breakfast was wonderful and the special dinner was very well done. Our room (211) was spectacular! We loved the feeling of the whole house, the tavern and the views from the dining room.

Though the weather was not outstanding that day,our stay in Sunset Hill House had been.From the services to room to dining were highly reccomendable & would love to be back again.

Feb 2012-We bought a Travelzoo voucher for this B & B last fall. Booked it for the 24th & 25th of Feb., my wife’s B’day. For us it was a 21/2 hr. drive to Franconia, N.H. Until we got to about 15minute before the Notch, there was no snow. Shortly after we arrived it snowed and snowed; basically their first of the season. This is an inn that first opened in 1880 and has evolved through the years to the current building which was the servant’s quarters when it opened. The original Inn fell into disrepair and was reduced to ashes in the 70’s in a controlled burn. The present owners bought the current Inn about 13 yrs. ago. It is a building with a lot of character and not a right angle in the place. We were welcomed nicely by the front desk staff. Our room was an upgrade which I requested and paid for. It was a large comfortable room with a fireplace(gas) and a 2-person Jacuzzi in the bathroom. Do not come if you are expecting a modern up-to-date Inn though it is well kept. There is library/sitting room area which also had fireplaces(gas). In the afternoon, you can go there to get coffee, tea, or cocoa(NC); read a book, or use your computer or tablet with their wireless router. The wifi barely reached to our room and it was inconsistent there. The restaurant is very good. The menu offers a 5-course chefs table for $52 that was amazing. There were enough choices that were also offered al carte. The food was excellent and cooked to order. Breakfast, of course, comes with the room and has many choices. They also have a small tavern with a decent wine assortment. All of the staff were friendly attentive and quite helpful. For the value this was well worth the money spent. I have heard that Travelzoo will be doing another offering for this venue.

We celebrated our 49th Ann with an overnight here. The staff was friendly & helpful. Our room was delightful with a gas fireplace & the rose on my pillow was a delightful touch. The view was outstanding. I could just picture what it must be like in the fall. Hope we can go again. Kathy

Our group thoroughly enjoyed the Inn. We moved the venue from the North Conway area after 10 years to seek out something a little more intimate for our group of 20 and the Sunset Hill House fit our needs like a glove.... a few of us were shocked on the room size and ammenities - come on now, where can you go and have a Steam Sauna Shower in your own room. I had several members of our group come in for a shower after a long day of skiing, AHHHH. It was great how our guest's could go in and look at the booked room and choose something different if they wanted. If your looking for a small group to stay all together, then stay in the Hill House, a detached house from the Inn. They couldn't have been more accomidating. We were all impressed and will be back next year at the same time, hopefully there's more snow. If your looking just to wonder off for those non skiers there's plenty to do around there, with a short car ride to anything.

Our stay at the Sunset Hill House was wonderful. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was delicious. The best part about the stay was the location - the views of the White Mountains cannot be beat! We were also upgraded to a nicer room with a fireplace and a jacuzzi tub for free because the weather wasn't cooperating (no snow!) so we weren't able to snow shoe. Only about a few hours away from Boston, this was the perfect place to go for a weekend getaway from the city! The drive was beautifully scenic, the inn and it's staff so charming, the views remarkable, and the atmosphere rejuveniating. I can't recommend it enough!

Located near the crest of Sunset Hill, this outstanding country / mountain getaway provides everything one (two, or many) could hope for in seeking the peace, beauty, and ambience of time away. Not enough time or space to fully explain the feeling. You'll just have to come see for yourself!

Sunset Hill House was a great find. Our room was large and comfortable. The bathroom, although small, was fine. The food is excellent! The french toast, stuffed with cream cheese, is irresistable. The staff, from innkeeper Lon to waitstaff, are attentive, warm and not intrusive. And we appreciated the little surprises!

We stayed in the Hill House 1 room for two nights. The room was amazing, we loved the fireplace, and unique shower. The food was top notch from the restaurant in the main house. The selections were great and the service was superior. The hardest part was deciding what to order. The management was very personable and eager to please. We would love to come back to visit again.

My husband and I stayed at The Sunset Hill House for just one night this winter and were pleased with the Inn. I booked last minute and we were still able to secure a room with a beautiful view, king size bed and whirlpool tub. The service was lovely. While the overall experience was nice and we were glad to have been able to stay there, I think next time we might try someplace different.

The rooms were very quaint and had their own fireplace. The bathroom was updated. The service was good. The front desk ensured we had a room with a great view and let us know that we could see the sun set out the front door and the sun rise out of the dining room. What awesome views of both!! Everything was very clean. The front desk staff, bar and dining room staff we very friendly and told stories of the area revolving around pictures they have on the walls. The only negative I have is that I thought the food was over priced. It was excellent flavor and original, though! I had stuffed French Toast for breakfast - not to be overlooked! Yummmm!

The views were amazing, sunrise was the most spectacular I have ever seen. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. The fine dining was fabulous.

Our family rendezvous-ed for my nephew's wedding. A beautiful 3 night stay. Warm & welcoming... and soft "Charlie Brown" snow set a breathtaking backdrop to the wedding ceremony. And, enjoyed a beautiful New year's Eve dinner topped with fireworks at midnight. Felt like home -- in all the right ways!

The only thing better than the flawless and kind service at the Sunset Hill House is the food. The dinners my wife and I shared were wonderful & the "40's" big band music was charming. But the reason to come back is the view. To sip coffee at breakfast and take in the snow-capped mountain range is breathtaking. Our room was wonderful as well. If you are a fan og giant old inns, this place is not to be missed.

Last year we stayed at the Sunset Hill B & B and had an amazing time. The "free" breakfast in the morning was 5star gourmet breakfast. It was unbelievable that was included in our room. The couple that owns the B & B are wonderful and so welcoming. we had a lovely time sipping delicious hot cocoa and reading in their living room area. Our room was clean and comfy. our jacuzzi was wonderful! very clean. Dreaming about going back again soon!

I stayed at Sunset Hill House with my boyfriend this past weekend, and was a little worried before arrival given some of the reviews on yelp regarding the decor. They were wrong. I purchased the weekend get away through travelzoo.com as a Christmas gift and wanted everything to be perfect. The owners really made the weekend romantic and great. They placed us in a really cozy room with a nice tv, king size comfy bed, awesome views and great renovated bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. We were extremely comfortable. The Inn was clean, the food was very good and everyone was so nice. The most impressive part of the weekend was returning from dinner at the Restaurant at Sunset Hill (which was really cold, only complaint) to a candle lit room with the fire going and a rose on my pillow. Nancy and Lon were energetic and just a joy to be around. I would certainly come back.

We went on the spur of the moment thanks to an online coupon and made a nice weekend of it. If we'd had our druthers we would have taken some of the comments about how run down this place is more seriously. The inn needs a complete renovation-- all the carpet and wallpaper in the common areas needs replacing, and our room was no different. The bathroom was as clean as the 40 year old fixtures will ever get. It reminded me a lot of visiting my grandparents' house: clean but a generation out dated. Like we said, if you've got a coupon or other deal, go for it. The view is great, location isn't bad, and they throw in breakfast for free. I wouldn't pay full price for it, though, and there are much nicer looking places in the area for the same price.

We came here to celebrate a special date and enjoyed a lovely room complete with jacuzzi, fireplace, king-sized bed and a fabulous view of the mountains! The ambiance was just what we were looking for: country elegance! I would recommend this location for anyone who likes the charm of a bed and breakfast and exceptional service.

Everything was awesome from the room to the exceptional dining and particularly the service even clearing 5 inches of snow from our car after a nightime snowstorm.

We spent a romantic weekend at Sunset Hill House. The food was superb and the location overlooking the mountains was beautiful. This is a really nice getaway place. The fireplace in the room is a nice touch. Some baths are marked as "step up". I guess we had one of those as it was an old fashioned tub with a shower. I would have preferred a modern shower which some of the rooms have. It was great that we could bring our dog.

Staffs there were really friendly. They even offered a crib for my little baby. The owners and their daughter who also served us were so kind. I'll stay there again if I go to New Hampshire.

We trully enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and clean establishment. The staff truly make you feel welcome.

Draps in room were faded. Dirt under end table. Ceiling fan not working. Blinds need to be repaired or replaced. One toaster for breakfast not enough. Prefer to have toast brought out with eggs. Problem is eggs get cold while wait for toast (if toaster is available)Service staff seemed overwhelmed during breakfast. 1st day we waited 20 minutes before Lon summoned someone to take our order. Other days juice and coffee urns were not refilled promptly.

We only found this little gem of a B&B on the last night of our holiday but it was the best. A shame we didn't find it earlier. Very welcoming, every care looked after. My guess is that owners have put their heart and soul into their business and have thought through everything. We usually leave a B&B thinking lovely but if only... they'd done this or that, but not with this one. We didn't think we would return to New Hampshire (we're from London, UK) but our last 24 hours has changed our minds. I wouldn't bother with anywhere else. Becky and Mark

This is a charming N.E. inn. The food is outstanding as well as the service. The rooms are a bit outdated but clean. Just know what to expect - an older inn with all the creaks, tacky wallpaper and smallish rooms. But a warm and friendly atmosphere with excellent food. We felt as if we were back in the day staying overnight at grandma's house! We enjoyed our stay but felt the cost is on the high side.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Sunset Hill House, and we really did not want to leave! The room we had was great, complete with beautiful decor and a hot tub in its own room, which had a gorgeous view of the mountains! The staff could not have been nicer or more accomodating, and the owners are very nice! Lon (one of the owners) is a very interesting and nice guy to talk to....he makes you feel right at home! Also, the dinner we had there one evening was fabulous, and everything was home made and delicious! You could have cut the Rib Eye steak we ordered with a butter knife! Additionally, the views from the Inn are incredible, as you look over Cannon mountain and many other mountains in the Presidential range. The town the Inn is located in, Sugar Hill, is one of the most beautiful spots in all of New Hampshire! A great place to visit, and a must on our future list of places to go again!!!

We went to a wedding there and was told it was a two night minimum, but that later changed and you could book the one night. Too late for me. When we first went up to the room, it wasnt what I had seen in the pics, so I was disappointed, the musty smell was slightly evident in the room, but much stronger in the closets. The sink was dripping and staining the sink, there were drool smudges across the windows, I assume a dog was in the room last, and I took a damp towel and wiped them myself. The staff was not always available. Attention to detail and organization isnt their strong suit. They never made the bed or restocked our towels etc the next day. I was told the Inn was booked up, so I tried to make the best of it, as I was so looking forward to the wedding, I wasnt let this ruin it. I guess what surprized me most was when I received an email asking how my stay was and if they missed the mark in any way please let them know so they can fix it. It wasnt sincere, as when I did they never responded. I let it go and had no intention of going back. This morning my daughter who also stayed there, and her room was much cleaner and cheaper, received a newsletter email. In this update was the fact that Nancy (owner), quit after 12 years, and they are renovating room 309, so I guess they got the hint, and I was right it was in need of a redu and cleaning. As a business owner, they should of acknowledged my complaint and validated it!!!! It would of meant a lot.

We have stayed at the Sunset Hill House twice over the last two months, and each stay was terrific. The views were incredible, the golf was as pleasant as could be, and the breakfasts were delectable. There was even live piano music during breakfast! I would go there again.

We love our Saturday morning pianist. He showed up one day as an out-of-house guest for breakfast and we've since developed a great friendship. He's a local pastor with a joie de vivre that all enjoy and he looks forward to the rather spectacular mix of people who come through our door as guests. Judging by your rating of our rooms, I'm going to guess you were in one of our traditional rooms which tend to be simpler and "classic inn." To me, that's the best value and the most authentic way to experience the slice of New England history that we represent. Thank you for taking the time to review us.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review us. Looking at the date range of your stay, I'm guessing the "problem with some rooms" was due to our fire on 30 Aug 2011 (caused by defectively manufactured wire--how does one prevent that?) There was a short time where we had up to 12 rooms out of service and even now we still have one room that won't be fixed until well after foliage.

Our stay at Sunset Hill House, room HH #4. Based our selection on the advertised room description and pictures found on website. The truth - As soon as we unlocked the door we were hit with: Overwhelming smell of mold and must emitting from the room as soon as you opened the door; Cracked windowpane obstructed the view; Bed mattress was listing to the left; the mattress sank even more when you sat on it. Bed linens were dingy & stained; Dresser had someone else’s clothes still in the drawer and two of the drawers had used sandwich baggies left in them; Carpet was soiled and stained throughout. Called the ‘main’ house; still no one answered the phone, I called 2 times. I walked over, no one at the front desk; I rang the buzzer that said, “to see the World’s Happiest Innkeeper, just ring the buzzer”. I rang it 3 times, still no one. Dining room door was shut; I entered and found 3 staff just sitting. I asked to see the Innkeeper or manager. I spoke with Karen and I explained my issues. I told her, she could “make it better or issue a refund”. I was offered their ‘best room in the house’ Room #211. This room did not have the horrible smell of mold and must but it did have the following problems: Wallpaper was peeling or bubbled; Above the television an uncovered electrical fixture with exposed wires and switches; Sofa was worn and frayed; Carpet was soiled and stained; Shower curtain had mold on the bottom. Several light fixtures had burnt out light bulbs. Carpet needed vacuming. 2 other bits- The “best” room was directly over the kitchen! Had to endure the conversations of the staff and pots & pans clanking well after 10 P.M. I suspect the Innkeepers and their 4 children reside on the 3rd floor above room #211, or else a herd of moose were residing up there because all we could hear was the pounding of running feet across our ceiling early in the mornings and late at night. Will not recommend it to anyone!

I wish I had a herd of moose on the 3d floor, they'd be a huge marketing asset. I've thought long and hard on this review as I do not fathom the motivation for such vicious deceit. In addition to outright lies, there are gross exaggerations (and even a kernel of truth). Lies: 1. Exposed electric-There is not. 2. The innkeepers' kids. The reviewer professes intimate knowledge of my family’s size, manners and abode. No one lives above 211, and both my “organic” & adopted children have exemplary manners. 3. My staff. The idea my staff would “just sit around," is outright malice, even if I could afford for them to. 4. Talking to the innkeeper: If Nancy or I are in Sugar Hill, much less on site, we are available for our guests. Karen, our desk manager, did everything she could to satisfy them and they told her all was well while they were here. 5. Moose: Per state law, no wild animals are allowed as pets. 6. Noise: Hyperbole of the "because it could be true, it is true" ilk-if there is noise we'll ask the offender to quiet. Truths: 211’s wall paper has some edges that are trying to lift. We stick them back down assiduously, but it is the nature of wallpaper (and everything) to be entropic. I would also like to replace the carpet (which she doesn't talk about, instead calling it "vacuuming”). Mold: Impossible. H4 is a bright room with huge natural light. While it’s possible there was an odor she didn’t like, it most certainly wasn’t mold. The antique glass still has a crack. All I ask of a review is fairness. We do screw up at times-Karen was mortified that housekeeping had missed the drawers and it wouldn't matter if it they had been full of $100 bills-it was still an error on our part. Bottom line: If there is something wrong for which we're responsible, I beg we are told when we can still do something about it-because we will. To accept our overtures and tell us all is well until a hateful anonymous diatribe months later is graceless.

Overall, a very nice spot to spend a first anniversary, great food and ambience, our room was switched to a 3rd floor room which was fine and very clean. Price was reasonable, about what one would expect at a fine old inn in northern NH.
