The Buttonwood Inn

We arrived in North Conway at 5pm with no where to stay. I leafed through "Fodor's" and called Buttonwood. The welcome began over the phone (!) with patient and careful directions. We were greeted with generous hospitality: a lovely, comfortable room, cookies and tea all in a beautiful and restful setting on "Surprise Mountain." Breakfast the following morning was delicious, and beautifullywe and gracefully served. The grounds are simply lovely and inviting to sit outside or wander and hike. The hosts gave suggestions and directions for our wanderings during the day, and pointers to restaurants in the evening. We stayed two nights and feel that we found a real treasure. If we are ever in the neighborhood, we'd return in a flash.

My husband and I stayed at the Buttonwood Inn for one night, but found it to be so charming and accommodating. We were given such care upon checking in and found our stay to be restful and we felt right at home. The breakfast we had was delicious and relaxing. Would love to visit again.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful 2-night stay recently at Buttonwood Inn - everything was perfect, from immaculate room to unusual and delicious breakfasts to delightful setting, indoors and outdoors (totally relaxing porch, rocking chairs, lawn with Adirondack chairs, etc.) Very quiet setting, yet less than 5 minutes from shops, restaurants, and routes to nearby National Forest, Jackson, and more. Hosts gave us as much or as little information about the area that we needed to enjoy ourselves completely. We will be back!!

Buttonwood Inn is a terrific place -- charming to the max and very comfortable. Bill & Paula made us instantly feel welcome and well taken care of during our stay with them last weekend. They've won awards for their hospitality and we can see why! The inn itself is a rambling, colonial-era treasure, circa 1820. The decor is elegantly simple and reflects the innkeepers' artistry at work in the tiniest details. On Saturday night we perused their up-to-date book of dinner menus from around the area - with discount cards available for many of them. It helped us pick just the right place for a memorable anniversary meal. The hosts have an impressive collection of movies in all genres and DVD players in all the rooms, plus a big screen in their downstairs media room. It was hard to choose what to watch! Sunday breakfast was pure heaven! Paula is a trained chef and she featured fresh fruit bowls, scrumptious yeasty waffles with real maple syrup and homemade pork sausage. What a way to start an active day of exploring the great outdoors - which you can do right from their back yard in Merriman State Forest. We appreciate Buttonwood's commitment to doing business locally as well as their environmental consciousness. That matters to us when we travel. I know we'll find our way back to Buttonwood again; perhaps when we want to enjoy their hot tub & pool after a day hike i the White Mountains . All in all, it was a treat to discover the many charms of Buttonwood Inn and a pleasure to meet Bill & Paula Petrone.

We had an excellent long weekend at the Inn. This was our first time in North Conway and we couldn't of picked a better spot. With hiking trails right out the back door and a hot tub to relax in after a great hike...this was sublime. With the Inn being off the main road, it makes for a perfect location to enjoy nature and listen to the birds and the rustle of leaves. Paula and Bill were perfect hosts and accommodated lactose issues with all breakfasts and snacks. If you are visiting North Conway, make the most of your trip with a stay at the Buttonwood Inn. Be sure to try the Mountain Sunrise ;-)

I planned a surprise getaway for our 13th Wedding Anniversary - it was just what we needed. The room was perfect with a jacuzzi and fireplace and everything was spotless. The thoughtfulness and helpfulness from Bill & Paula were heartwarming. Down to the cookies at check-in, a delicious breakfast and the recommendations for dining out - everything was wonderful. We only wished we would have planned for a longer stay...next time!

Buttonwood Inn located on Mount Surprise in North Conway will become our yearly tradition. We had a memorable and magical weekend away, and we will always cherish our time tucked away in this cozy little inn. Bill and Paula were gracious hosts. Bill was entertaining and easy to talk to, while Paula's cooking was incredible. We escaped into the mountains during the day for hikes and glorious views of waterfalls, but eagerly rushed back to the Inn for tea time on the porch. We fell in love with Buttonwood and even purchased mugs to commemorate this weekend. As we are working a long distance relationship for the remainder of the summer, we call each other up and have tea time over Facetime with our Buttonwood mugs.

Bill and Paula are the reason your experience at The Buttonwood Inn will be your most memorable stay in the North Conway area. Paula caters to our friends gluten free diet and the food is so good, I even look forward to the gluten free food! Bill is the gatekeeper, the bell hop, the concierge, the fire starter, the know everything guru, the most helpful and accommodating host you could want. Together they create an atmosphere which makes you want to return... which is why we do!

My husband and I have stayed at many other B and Bs in the North Conway area, but we found the Buttonwood Inn to be the best for its value. Including all taxes and everything, we paid $107 for our large room with queen bed and private bath. We didn't know before going there, but they have an outdoor very clean and new hot tub that fits 4+ adults where we soaked and watched the stars of the crisp January night sky. They also have 2 separate common rooms one which is more like a living room with books and a piano and another room on the other side of the house with a large screen TV, and a wood burning stove. They are a little off the main drag (RT 16 north Conway), which I preferred because it was quieter with zero sounds of the traffic below. Other things to know are that they don't allow their dogs into the inn which is great for people like me with allergies. They are also great with food allergies and very accommodating with making all the food without foods that I couldn’t eat. The only bad thing about our stay was watching the Pats lose the AFC on the large flat screen TV.

Spent 2 nights at the Inn with my 4 grandchildren and their parents. Absolutely beautiful place and immaculate accommodation. Excellent food. Will definitely return!

I do not recall staying in any small hotel or B&B before where every need was anticipated; where breakfast was a lovingly presented work of culinary art; and where the innkeeper's suggestions for sightseeing, for two days, was perfectly pitched to our interests and time. Both Bill and Paula are warm and gracious hosts, but Bill went the extra mile when we left our credit card at a local restaurant: he retrieved and forwarded it but called us, on the road, twice, to assure and then to reassure us.

We are generally "hotel people", mostly because we have two small children and simply find it easier . Our minds might very well be changed after staying with Bill and Paula for a last minute Thanksgiving getaway. Everything about our stay was perfect, from the easy check in to the fantastic breakfast and treats to the cleanest establishment we have ever stayed at. We are already hoping to get back next summer. Thank you for a wonderful stay and most importantly for being so kind and welcoming to our children!

Bill and Paula run a tight ship--which is good because it means everyone else can RELAX--which is just what we wanted (along with great food, 2 wood fires--one in a rec room with do-your-own movies, lots of handy-by N. Conway natue opps, restaurants and shopping--AND a weather center where--trust me--you DO NOT want to miss the "berth-the-boat" exercise, or the gale-force winds outside the Mt. Washington cabin; and which is right next door to the Award-Winning "cupcake place"). Weather-permitting, be sure to take the short trek to Diana's bath (heads up: it's a "nature" rather than a "shopping" opp). And Buttonwood Inn is clean, clean, clean. And the hosts and background music are NOT in your face. But Bill can point you in any direction you want to go, and Paula is a GREAT cook. And you can get very good quality "early dinner" specials at the Lobster something-or-rather not far away--because N. Conway restaurants ain't cheap. Enjoy! The inn was quiet and cozy and paula and bill were as sweet as could be. The afternoon treats and morning breakfast were like no other! We highly recomend this inn and are deffinatly going to return. Kurt, tracy, & alexander

My wife and I went for a two day get-away to the Buttonwood Inn in October. Paula and Bill are excellent hosts, giving us a warm personal welcome and tour of the Inn. The room was immaculate, warmly decorated and so very comfortable. The location is quiet and it is easy to relax here. Paula's breakfast preparation and Bill's service of it was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will recommend it to family and friends.

We recently spent two nights with Bill & Paula, the hosts at the Buttonwood Inn. The inn is located in a beautiful quiet location, but only a few minutes from Rt. 16. Bill & Paula are dedicated to making your stay enjoyable. Paula makes the most delicious breakfasts and serves warm cookies in the afternoon. We spoke to a couple who had checked in late the previous night and found a plate of cookies waiting in their room - nice touch! You can enjoy the fireplaces at night and porch rockers during the day. Bill provides great recommendations for things to do and places to dine. There are discounts and menus from some restaurants to look at and Bill will make reservations for you. We enjoyed our stay and have already booked a return visit for next year.

My wife and I stayed at the Buttonwood for two nights in the midst of a trip through New England in the fall. It could not have been a more enjoyable experience. Bill and Paula did a superb job of making us feel welcomed and cared for. It rained for much of our stay so we spent more time inside than we had planned, but that was not hardship. The Inn is wonderfully accommodating and you could spend your entire vacation without ever leaving the premises. Every part of our experience was wonderful and we highly recommend the Buttonwood Inn. Paula's breakfasts are exquisite and it would be worth the trip for that reason alone!

The most memorable part of a two week trip.. Started with two days and increased it to three.. Would like to stay longer next time.. and there will be a next time.. Helpful, caring and Paula's breakfasts were first class.

Our stay at the Buttonwood Inn was wonderful. It is set in a tranquil environment, colorful with the change of season. Bill and Paula made us feel at home. The atmosphere was great, relaxing to a fault. The dining room was most inviting and so were the magnificent meals prepared by Paula. Breakfast was something to look forward to. Bill was most helpful with his suggestions as to the best places to site see and did not fail us in his suggestions for lunch and dinner. The days went by so quickly. There was nothing lacking in the way of service. It was obvious that Bill and Paula do their best to make your stay and enjoyable and memorable one. I would recommend the Buttonwood Inn to anyone looking for a great hide-a-way but within minutes of sight seeing, shopping, eating. We give it a 10 in all categories.

What a fun time ! This is how you imagine things should be (but usually never quite works out that way). Paula and Bill go way way way out of their way for you and they know everything and everyone. The bed (we were in Room 10) was great, the breakfasts wonderful, the atmosphere delightful and it was quiet quiet quiet (why is it so hard to find quiet these days?). The location is out of the way but easy to find, there are easy hikes in the woods out the back door and fine dining (or salads from the salad bar at the local grocery), are within minutes. We just had a really really good time. We needed gluten and lactose free food and it was there without missing a beat. Even afternoon cookies were specially made and "reserved" for us. If only it were as easy in real life as Paula made it appear to be.

We spent 5 wonderful days at the Buttonwood Inn in late August 2012. Paula and Bill are wonderful hosts and make you feel comfortable and at ease. Paula's delicious breakfasts are a great start to a day of activity or relaxation. Outlets, quaint shpos and restaurants are conveniently located. The drive to all three notches Franconia, Crawford and Pinkham are within 30-60 minutes and the hiking is spectacular. Many ski slopes are nearby as well ..... but we'll leave that to another season -Let it SNOW! John & Barb

Quiet well run inn by owners. Nothing any trouble to assist in making your stay worthwhile.

This is a lovely B&B a little outside of town. The grounds are well kept with flower beds abounding, a swimming pool, hot tub, outdoor games and walking trails. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. (the beds are nice and firm) Because of a special dietary need, Paula went out of her way to make some special foods for me. Bill and Paula are wonderful owners. Bill was more than helpful in telling us of the local restaurants and things of interest. I would highly recommend this B&B.

My husband, adult son and I spent the weekend in this wonderful Inn. Our mission was to ride MT Washington on our motorcycles. While we did just that and it was an awesome experience, we only wish we had more time to spend at The Buttonwood Inn. The Innkeepers Bill & Paula were so nice. Bill was incredibly helpful to all the guests, recommending places to go, where to eat and the best routes to take. Paula is a chef and it showed in her nothing less than amazing breakfasts! She also puts out wonderful snacks for their guests in the afternoon. The attention to details and the efforts to make everyone feel welcome combined with the impeccable cleanliness is why this is the best experience we have ever had staying at an Inn. We checked in late on a Friday evening and had a plate of homemade ( oh so good!) brownies awaiting us that both my husband and son devoured. In our beautiful room, there was a fresh picture of water on the nightstand. In the unbelievably clean bathroom, extra items a guest might have forgotten to pack. In the dining room a table devoted to assisting guests in navigating the many things to do and places to eat in North Conway, including coupons off at some places. The yard is beautiful, with pool, jacuzzi and fire pit along with comfortable chairs and beautiful landscaping. Inside is a very large common room with a big screen TV, comfortable furniture, a refrigerator along with DVD's and many other things to hang out and do. It was so obvious to us that Bill and Paula have poured themselves into their Inn and they take pride in all the hard work it takes to make the place so comfortable and welcoming. I can only say to anyone considering this Inn....do it! My husband and I are already trying to figure out when we can go back.

All aspects were simply perfect and it is no surprise due to the care and concern of Bill and Paula, the Inn-Keepers. The accommodations were splendid, the food delicious, and if we had a question about the area, both Bill and Paula were right there to give us suggestions.

Bill and Paula went completely out of their way to make my stay a very enjoyable one. I will never stay at any other place besides Buttonwood Inn when I go away to New Hampshire. The hospitality is superior to that of any inn or hotel I have ever been to. Also, breakfast at the inn was absolutely outstanding. To anyone who is deciding on which inn to stay at in NH, I recommend staying at Buttonwood Inn. You will not find the same hospitality anywhere else!

Buttonwood Inn is definitely a 5 Star B&B! The grounds are beautiful! The rooms were cozy and we enjoyed being able to set the room temperature to our comfort level. Breakfast and Evening Snacks were gourmet. Swimming pool, hot tub, walking trails, and a warm fire at night... It was a wonderful vacation. Thank you Buttonwood!

My husband and I went for a weekend getaway in early August 2012. We have stayed at many bed and breakfasts and we were pleasantly surprised. Our Room #3, one of the smaller rooms with a Queen Bed and private bath on the second floor, was cozy and spotless. The breakfasts each morning at our own table in the dining room were delicious. Our hosts, Bill and Paula were very attentive and helpful and Paula's afternoon treats were so good! We loved sitting on the front porch patting the non-resident cat and watching the many hummingbirds. We will definitely be back for a return stay!

We stayed at the Buttonwood for four nights and would happily recommend the inn to anyone. Bill and Paula are fantastic innkeepers and a perfect team. They couldn’t have been more helpful. The inn is set in beautiful grounds and is spotlessly clean. The food is fantastic all produced by Paula and genuinely homemade. Our experience was that Paula happily accommodated a fussy 8 year old eater and also a gluten free adult without any issue. The breakfasts were fantastic and the cookies in the afternoon so delicious from the moment you smell them being prepared in the kitchen. The swimming pool is a great size and hot tub lovely and all in such a beautiful setting. The guest facilities are really good with plenty of rooms to relax in even before taking account of the fabulous grounds. Bill and Paula give great attention and service to ensure your stay is wonderful for example they have plenty of DVDs, board games, a guest computer, large screen television (quite apart from the television in the room). They provide lots of helpful information on the locality and have great knowledge in local places, restaurants and are as helpful as they can be in making any arrangements. We come from the UK and have stayed in different highly rated hotels and inns but this was simply the best and made our holiday. You would have to go a very long way to match the Buttonwood and we’d love to revisit if we ever come to this area again.

Beautiful setting & scenery, lovely accommodations with a charming parlor, great basement and delightful breakfast room. Really good breakfasts & delicious cookies! Was able to use the swimming pool & jacuzzi which was a bonus Paula & Bill were very congenial hosts. Hope to get back there in the not too distant future!

Myfamily and I truly enjoyed our stay here. Bill and Paula were very helpfull in all our planning and activities, and the food was amazing!

I was there with my wife and my kid initially just for one night. We have so good experience that we changed our travelling within New England to return two days later to have another night! Bill & Paula did all what was in their hands, without us asking, to have a very pleasent experience, taking care of having the pool ready, the jacuzzi ready...etc...and not to forget about the breakfast...the best we had in our trip by far! All added with a very charming place and innkeapers. Hopefully we will come back again.

We stayed at the Buttonwood Inn for our 7th anniversary and we couldn't have been happier! The food is delicious, the views are even better and the Inn is just the right distance from town where you a stones throw from everything, but secluded from the noise. The rooms are cozy, the place is spotless and Bill and Paula know exactly how to take care of their guests. If you are looking for a place to stay, don't look any further. Your expectations will be met and exceeded!

My husband and I stayed at the Buttonwood Inn for a long weekend and had a wonderful time! Bill and Paula are very gracious hosts who have put a lot of effort into creating a comfortable, peaceful place to stay. We planned a lot of outdoor activities around Mt. Washington, but Paula's delicious breakfasts and home-baked treats led us to stay later in the morning and look forward to coming back in the afternoon. Their thoughtfulness made us feel like very welcome guests in their home, and we'll look forward to staying with them again.

This is an outstanding B&B attractive inside and outside. Our room had a handpainted mural on one wall in beautfiul colors by a local artist. It wasn't good swimming weather but there is a lovely, large pool and a very convenient walking trail. Paula is an accomplished chef and was very considerate in making sugar-free, but still delicious, items for my husband. We hope to return in the not too distant future.

We decided to go away for the weekend for our anniversary and found this wonderful Inn while online. The breakfast was great. The grounds are immaculate. Paula and Bill are very nice. It is a nice place to get away from the busy world. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice getaway.

We spent a weekend here in June to take a photo workshop on waterfalls given by a local photographer. He took us to several waterfalls in the area, shared his expertise and gave great tips. We had lunch with him back at the inn where we went over pictures and got advice. A great experience! The inn itself is lovely! Our room was impeccable with all the comforts of home....a four poster bed, flat screen, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, plush towels and robes. By far the best room we have ever stayed in. Paula and Bill are great hosts and provide a warm and friendly atmosphere. The meals were really something special. We especially loved the waffles! Not only is the inn first class all the way, it is in a very quiet spot off the beaten path but close to everything and anything you want to do. We would recommend it to anyone and would go back without question. Check out their fall photo workshop. You won't be disappointed!

Terrific homemade breakfasts and snacks. Windfall and warm hospitality. The hosts, Bill and Paula, are gracious and attentive. The Buttonwood Inn is an annual tradition for me.

My wife and I took a trip to the White Mountains with our family as part of a Mother's Day gift. Can't comment on the reservation process since the arrangements were handled by our daughter, but I can say she picked a great B&B. We had a rather large group, there were 5 of us and we reserved two rooms for two nights. Bill and Paula were excellent hosts, going out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and leaving us to ourselves when we wanted to be just family. We did make use of the available facilities and Bill was happy to accommodate us; hot tub, movies in the recreation room with pizza delivered, guided fly fishing, hiking and a massage for Mom. Great breakfasts - scones one morning and eggs and hash browns the next. And always tea and a snack in the afternoon. And, finally, after returning, I realized I left my glasses in our room. One call to Bill and they showed up at our door in Louisiana two days later. It just capped off the rest of the great service and attention we received during our visit. Bill and Paula, thanks again for a wonderful stay.

Thank you both for our wonderful visit to Kearsarge Village in the heart of North Conway and the White Mountains. Accommodations were comfortable, the Inn beautifully decorated and inviting, breakfasts imaginative and delicious ..... and it was a pleasure to meet you. We spent a week at The Buttonwood Inn with friends. It is the perfect spot for relaxing after a day of skiing or snowshoeing. Paula's breakfasts were wonderful and we always looked forward to afternoon tea and another treat from Paula's kitchen. As hosts, Bill and Paula think of everything to make the guests comfortable. The Mt. Surprise room with a refrigerator made packing lunches a breeze. At night we used the that room to watch movies or our own pictures from the day on the large TV. Soaking in the hot tub with heavy snow falling was a highlight! Thank you, Bill, for opening it for us each night. This is a clean, well appointed, friendly B&B that you are sure to enjoy.

We stayed for two nights in mid-February, and went skiing at the Cranmore resort. I definitely recommend this combination if you're looking for a relaxing ski weekend - Cranmore is literally down the street from the Inn, and a good low-key place to ski whether you're a complete beginner or more experienced. When we weren't skiing, we spent time at the inn by the fireplaces, chatting, reading, and watching a movie. We traveled with a friend who is gluten-free, and in addition to providing gluten-free breakfasts each morning, Paula made a special batch of gluten-free cookies which were waiting for us on our arrival late Friday night. We'll definitely stay at the Buttonwood Inn again - I'm excited to see it in the summer!

We had a nice time at Buttonwood. Bill and Paula are very friendly, the food was great, and it's in an excellent location. Clean, warm, inviting and a great value.

My husband and I have stayed at the Buttonwood twice-summer and winter. The area has a lot to offer in both seasons. Bill and Paula are gracious hosts and make you feel most welcome and comfortable. Our room was cozy and clean, and nicely decorated. Breakfast is delicious, featuring local foods, and Paula's afternoon treats are an added touch. We also enjoyed the pool and outdoor jacuzzi-summer and winter. We have stayed at many B&Bs over the years and the Buttonwood is among the best. This was our first trip to the White Mountains and it just happened to be the weekend after we had been engaged! Bill and Paula were so wonderful, they upgraded our room and had complimentary sparkling cider waiting for our arrival! They were also very helpful with making sure we knew how to get to all of the activities we had planned and had lots of advice of places to check out. The food was FANTASTIC!!!! We ate like royalty with Paula's fresh baked scones, eggs, potato cakes, banana pecan pancakes, sausage patties, pumpkin cupcakes and cookies - everything was absolutely delicious! The room was charming and cute and very comfortable and relaxing. We also enjoyed the lounge downstairs, as we sat on the couches by the fireplace and watched a movie from their huge collection one night during our stay. This was our first bed and breakfast experience and it truly was a great one. We can't wait to go back. It is definitely a great and relaxing hideaway that we would love to become regulars at! We would definitely recommend the Buttonwood Inn to anyone traveling to the White Mountains!!!!

We've been to the Buttonwood Inn twice now and we'll absolutely return for years to come. If you want a wonderful, quiet, cozy getaway in a lovely, quintessential New England inn, you must stay at the Buttonwood. Winter visits are especially enjoyable with the warmth and aroma of the wood-burning fireplaces, afternoon tea and homemade treats, and Paula's amazing homemade breakfasts. Heaven! The setting of the Inn is so pretty (nice because it's off the beaten path), and each guest room is beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable and clean. The whole experience is made even better by Bill and Paula... they are warm, gracious, professional hosts and innkeepers who truly care about the comfort of their guests. The Buttonwood Inn just can't be beat. It's a wonderful getaway!

From the moment we arrived and met Paula & Bill we knew we would have a wonderful stay. Their hospitality is wonderful. Personalized service was a total surprise when comparing to other places we've stayed. One of us is diabetic and Paula made sugar free treats just for her as well as providing sugar free portions for our fantastic breakfasts. The breakfasts were unusual (to us) and very good. Paula is an accomplished chef. The entire Inn was homey and welcoming with wood fireplaces in the common rooms and gas fireplace in our room (#1). It snowed the second night we were there and in the morning the road to the Inn, the driveway and the parking area had been plowed so we were easily able to drive out. Actually, we were kind of hoping to be snowed in and have to stay another night instead of returning to home and work!! All in all this Inn is on our list of return sometime and on our list of recommendations to our friends on a must stay place in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

We had a lovely, relaxed and peaceful stay at the Buttonwood Inn. Our room was spotlessly clean, spacious (we had booked the largest available), warm, comfortable and well appointed, with our own access to and from our own reserved car parking space. Our host Bill and hostess Paula, were kind and accommodating, and helped us with our every need from the booking of restaurants, to suggesting a variety of activities that might interest us and to fixing our wi-fi connection difficulties! We were made to feel that their home was our home, and the lounges, dining room and gardens were homely and inviting. Breakfast was served in a bright yet cosy dining room overlooking the lovely, sloping gardens at the front of the property. It was a relaxed affair, with our host giving the description of Paula's home cooked dishes, which she prepared to order, thus giving guests time to pass on ideas and suggestions to each other in an informal setting. It was all rather delightful. I took in a lemon one day to make myself lemon tea; the next morning, completely unprovoked, a bowl of sliced lemon appeared on the breakfast table! Afternoon tea was served at 4.30pm, again with home cooked cookies and cakes - all too delicious to resist I'm afraid! Bill and Paula, our considerate hosts, made us feel very welcome at all times. We were rather sad to leave and would definitely look forward to staying at the Buttonwood again should we ever visit Upper Conway in the future. Thank you again.

We stayed in 4 B&Bs on our recent travel thru New England. We were very pleased with The Buttonwood Inn except for the size of our room which was very tiny and a steep narrow staircase. However, the Inn is charming and so are its owners Bill and Paula. The breakfasts were very good and Bill helped us so much with directions to great sites to see and making reservations for us at good restaurants in the area. They even have a great trail behind the house to explore. Bill took a wonderful photo of us and sent it via email and this really pleased us.

The Buttonwood Inn is tucked away off the beaten path of North Conway - the location is beautiful, as is the inn itself. Bill and Paula bend over backwards to offer hospitality and help as the innkeepers - they provided suggestions for restaurants, activities, directions, and even had coupons to some local attractions. The breakfasts were delicious and beautifully served. We stayed in a room with a private but detached bathroom - this worked out fine, though my husband was worried that the walking and door sounds might disturb others. The grounds are beautiful and offer places to stroll and sit to take in the scenery and watch the wildlife (chipmunks!). Enjoyed our stay!

Buttonwood Inn is so pretty and the grounds are beautiful. Our room was very clean and pretty. Bill and Paula made us feel so welcome and at home. Bill was so helpful with our itenary and restaurants. We had a marvelous time. The breakfast both mornings was delicious. Paula is a great chef. They both made us feel like royalty. We went from Germany on a trip through New England. From all the hotels, inns and motels we've visited it was the most beautiful in a wonderful landscape and a big tv to see the NFL Kickoff. Paula and Bill let us feel like coming home in a foreign country.

Grounds are spacious and welcoming. Quiet out-of-the-way location adds tremendously to the appeal. Hiking trails nearby. Rooms are more than comfortable. Breakfasts are creative and delicious. In every aspect, this Inn ranks very near the top of the many I have stayed in.

We selected Buttonwood Inn after reviewing many B & B's in the area and were pleasantly surprised when we drove up to the inn. It's about two miles or so off the main road and is backed up to the woods, so you quickly feel relaxed and can enjoy the beauty of the property without having to be completely away from everything. Bill and Paula have made an extra effort to make sure that their guests have everything they need. The historic home that has received several B & B awards is furnished and decorated nicely and our room was very comfortable. Paula is a wonderful cook and we especially loved her oatmeal pancakes. They provided us with recommendations on restaurants and we were not disappointed. We will rave about the Thompson House Eatery in nearby Jackson for a long time because the food and service were outstanding. We visited nearby Mount Washington and Ellis Falls, which were a short driving distance from the B & B. We especially enjoyed a short hike in the woods behind the house after returning from shopping in town. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone who will be visiting the White Mountain/Conway area in New Hampshire.

We had a lovely, peaceful stay at The Buttonwood. Paula and Bill welcomed us warmly, and were so kind. Just a few minutes off the main highway the setting is akin to being many miles away from civilization and all of its inherent clutter. Such lovely silence... I think I would drive the 3 hours just for one more breakfast artfully and oh so tastefully created by Paula! Smiled all the way home!!! :-)

The Buttonwood is a charming and welcoming inn, surrounded by trees and assorted wildlife (from tiny toads to hovering humminbirds). The room was homey, and we awoke each morning to only the sounds of the birds. A great find, with terrific breakfasts and a warm welcome from our hosts Bill and Paula.

Our stay was just wonderful. The Inn has a timeless ambience set amongst the beauty of nature with all the modern amenities. Paula is a wonderful chef, and Bill was so helpful with dinner reservations and local attractions. Serenity, yummy food and good company, what more could one ask for? Can't wait to go back for another visit.

Such a warm welcome, even on a last minute reservation ! The property is charming, rooms are very clean, the food was great. We had the very special pleasure of enjoying an hummingbird ballet through the dining room window while enjoying breakfast. Wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed the pool and spa.....

My husband's parents came to visit us in MA, and we thought it'd be nice to take a quick trip up to NH to see Mt. Washington. We were lucky enough to secure some last-minute reservations at the Buttonwood Inn - and what a find! My husband and I have stayed at a number of BnBs all over New England, and the US - and we think the Buttonwood in was by far the best place we have stayed! The location is so lovely! A nearly secluded little getaway spot, but very convenient to town. They house, furnishings, and the grounds are very well kept, and the food was amazing! Paula makes her own (very delicious) breakfast sausage! And Bill greets you when you arrives, and makes you feel right at home! What a wonderful find! We are already planning our next trip!

Stayed with Bill & Paula for a family vacation weekend. Bill & Paula are exceptional hosts and made us feel very welcome. Breakfasts were delicious and we all loved the afternoon treats. Rooms were very clean, comfortable and welcoming. The inn itself is very well maintained and located on a beautiful spot with lovely views of the surrounding mountains. Pool was a welcomed treat after a long day of play. Convienent to nature trails and town. Would highly recommend to anyone traveling in the North Conway area.

I found this place via the internet and were my husband and I happy! This is a gem, hidden away on a side road near North Conway. It is out of the hubbub of town but near enough to go in for dinner or shopping. There are mountain hikes right from the Inn's door or a short drive away. The rooms are simple, clean, air conditioned, and comfortable. Paula's breakfasts are fabulous and the pool so welcome at the end of a hot day. This is a great place for couples or families who want a relaxing, low-key place to hang their hats while exploring the Whites. And you couldn't ask for two nicer innkeepers. We will return! Ask Bill to tell you the maple syrup story while you're indulging in Paula's fabulous pancakes or waffles.

Buttonwood Inn is the sort of B&B one hopes to find, but rarely does. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, the rooms are lovely, the bathrooms are pretty and immaculate, the hosts are extremely helpful and friendly, but they are never obtrusive. The breakfasts both were absolutely delicious, and the service was impeccable. Some of the extras we enjoyed so much were the hottub, use of a refrigerator, the pretty wine glasses, the lovely shampoo and conditioner, the versatile reading matter in the living room, Bill's helpful suggestions about restaurants and activities. If you want a totally "lovely in every way" B&B to visit, I suggest The Buttonwood Inn!

We can not say enough good things about the Buttonwood Inn and the owners Paula and Bill. Having never stayed at a B&B we were not sure what to expect. The rooms had all of the comfort and privacy you would find in a luxury hotel but a warmth and charm you could not find anywhere else. Paula's breakfast and snacks were absolutely delicious. Bill made us feel so welcome. The Mt. Surprise Room was a great place to watch a game on the big TV. We met another couple that had visited dozens of other B&B's and they feel exactly the same way about the Buttonwood as we do!!

This was my second stay at the Buttonwood Inn. The first visit was in the winter, so this was a whole new experience, and did certainly not disappoint. The owners are extremely friendly, and are willing to assist you in any way possible. From the daily fresh baked snacks, to the hiking trails out back this place has it all. It is perfectly located off the beaten path so you get that NH wooded feel, while still being a three minute drive to the main strip in North Conway. I would suggest this B&B to anyone looking to stay in North Conway.

We stayed at the Buttonwood Inn in North Conway this past Memorial Day weekend.Its a very convenient location to explore the Mount Washington area , tucked away in a quiet part of town , but still close enough to the downtown.My husband and I loved the inn and the peace and quiet was just what the doctor ordered.Bill and Paula are very friendly and are very helpful with their recommendations and are knowledgeable about the Mount Washington area. The Mount Surprise room is well equipped with movies (a good collection!),books,games,etc.Paula's baked goodies are delicious and so were the breakfasts.If you are in the Mount Washington area, this would be a very good place to stay....its spic and span,has all the amenities you need - including a swimming pool and jacuzzi....a great place to stay and enjoy the Mount Washington area.I would definitely come back here another time and recommend this inn highly.

Buttonwood Inn on Mt. Surprise was the perfect location for a relaxing weekend getaway. As soon as we got to the inn, Bill and Paula personally greeted us and helped us settle in right away. Bill took us on a tour of the inn and brought us to our perfect room (number 6). He is very knowledgeable of the area and can give great advice on things to do and directions to any place you want to go. When we got to our room, we found it to be very clean and cozy. My mother had called the inn on short notice and asked Bill and Paula to get a bottle of champagne for my new fiancee and me as an engagement gift. Even though they only had about two hours until we arrived, there was a bottle of champagne in ice waiting for us in our room. Each morning Paula cooked a delicious and filling breakfast that could not be missed. Bill and Paula are so accommodating and went out of their way to make our weekend enjoyable. We are used to spending our weekend getaways in a hotel, but now we will definitely be staying at the inn when we travel to North Conway again!

This is a wonderful Bed and Breakfast and I highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in the North Conway area. The Innkeepers Bill and Paula were so accomodating and really made you feel welcome, and made sure you were able to really experience being in the mountains and seeing nature and all it has to offer. The location is the perfect balance of having the quiet and relaxation of the mountains (there are trails out the back door and we even saw a black bear on our hike!) and the closeness to North Conway village and shops. The Inn is beautiful and cozy and our room was just perfect and very clean. The breakfasts were delicious, as was the dessert that was put out with tea in the evening. We arrived late in the evening on the first night and it was a nice surprise to find a small plate of cookies with our room key :) This is a great place to relax, hike, and enjoy being in the mountains. We highly recommend Buttonwood Inn and will be back for sure!

My wife Susan & I returned home today after spending a wonderfully relaxing week-end at the Buttonwood! Bill and Paula made us feel right at home in their beautiful Inn! A very quiet, relaxing, bed and breakfast. The hosts are very friendly, the inn is well appointed, the common areas are elegant, the breakfast terrific. Snowshoe trails begin right at the door, conveniently located near downtown North Conway, but off in its own little world.

Bill and Paula are gracious host and create and very pleasant environment. Paula is an amazing cook and the breakfast and afternoon treats are wonderful. They are very knowledgeable about restaurants and places to go. We had the enjoyment of snowshoeing out their back door and into the woods. We recommend highly.

I brought my mother to the Buttonwood Inn for a mother-daughter weekend getaway for snowshoeing. We received not only delicious breakfasts from the staff but also wonderful recommendations on where to snowshoe, shop and eat dinner. Our stay was so enjoyable, we will be returning next year for our new annual snowshoeing trip.

My husband an I enjoyed a wonderful two night stay at The Buttonwood Inn. We were greeted warmly upon arrival by both Bill & Paula and made to feel right at home. Bill gave us a tour of the Inn and our room (#10) which was absolutely perfect! After we got settled we enjoyed some fresh baked treats that Paula had prepared while enjoying a blazing fire in the parlor. The following day we chose a dvd from the large selection and watched it on the flat screen in the Mt. surprise room. We both thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts that Paula prepared. She is a very talented chef. We are already looking forward to our next stay at the Buttonwood Inn.

This was another great winter getaway at the Buttonwood Inn. We arrived on Wednesday Feb 16 and left on Monday Feb 21. The hospitality was great as usual. Paula is a trained chef and the variety & imagination of the breakfast fare is outstanding We have been coming to this inn for 24 years and there is plenty to do in the area such as outlet shopping, skiing and snowshoeing. The trails right out the back door of the inn provide hours of hiking or snowshoeing fun. There are many fine restaurants within a 15 minute drive so it is a great place to stay. We have already made ou reservation for next year.

This was the first time my girlfriend and I had ever stayed at a Bed and Breakfast. It was beyond pleasant. It was a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Boston. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Buttonwood Inn on Valentine’s Day weekend. It was our first bed and breakfast ever. After much extensive research for the RIGHT bed and breakfast in NH, the reviews were great for The Buttonwood Inn and the price was right. The entire experience exceeded my expectations by far! Paula and Bill made you feel welcomed and were extremely friendly and helpful. Bill gave us a tour of the Inn and told us about some of the Inn’s history. Before we arrived he had been picking out a selection of movies to go along with Valentine’s Day for the guests to watch if they so chose. I thought that was very thoughtful. The entire Inn is extremely tastefully decorated with a cozy sitting room to sip hot chocolate by a lit fire in tall comfy chairs. I LOVED IT! And listen to their recommendations of places to eat, they know what they are talking about. Better yet, they will even make the reservations for you! And not to mention the breakfast and treats! TO DIE FOR! Paula is an AMAZING cook, and even has a recipe featured in a bed and breakfast cook book. They do accommodate to any allergies you may have. I can’t wait to go back! And my boyfriend can’t stop talking about the food! Haha.

The Innkeepers Bill & Paula are superb hosts. The breakfast and afternoon pastries are scrumptious! The location is near all North Conway's attractions yet secluded, quiet and relaxing. A very special and memorable experience!

Stayed at the Inn in October for 2 nights. We were there enjoying the colours and the superb hospitality of Bill and Paula. This is our 4th stay at the Buttonwood and it just keeps getting better. I can hardly wait for our next stay. Bill and Paula know exactly when to fade into the background or provide the expertise on anything happening in the area. I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

We spent 3 nights at the Buttonwood and had a very enjoyable stay. The inn offers two comfortable common areas to choose from, and excellent breakfasts and late afternoon sweets. We also liked the beautiful and quiet rural setting. The Petrones are excellent hosts.

Buttonwood Inn is a wonderful place to stay. I had such an amazing time relaxing by the glowing fire, warming up in the bubbly jacuzzi, and waking up to a freshly prepared breakfast that is sure to satisfy anyone. I will with out a doubt visit again.

We recently took our 3 young children away for a surprise "Polar Express" weekend. The Buttonwood Inn was the perfect place to stay! Bill and Paula have a very warm, inviting inn in which our family enjoyed immensely. Our adjoining rooms were very quaint yet had all the conveniences needed. Our children loved the Mt. Surprise room and were able to eat Paula's homebaked goodies and hot cocoa while watching Polar Express. The breakfasts were delicious and Bill and Paula were very accommodating to offer the little ones choices that may appeal to them more. They were also flexible in our schedule, as it swayed a bit from their usual hours for breakfast and treat times. We would absolutely love to stay there again!

We had a most relaxing, safe and family fun weekend at the Buttonwood Inn. We were so comfortable and cozy in Paula and Bill's Inn. I always enjoy staying at the Buttonwood Inn. It is private, they serve a wonderful breakfast and we are always taken care of very well. I especially like the new changes that Bill and Paula have made since they took over. Great job.

My girlfriend and I spent out first weekend away together at the Buttonwood Inn, and it couldn't have been a more perfect weekend. The room was cozy and comfortable, Paula's breakfast's were wonderful; the whole stay was a great time. The Buttonwood is definitely on our list of places to go back to the next time we're on vacation. Not listed on the dining guide but a great place to go is Delaney's Hole in the Wall, it's a great local restaurant/pub with a great atmosphere.

I absolutely loved staying at the Buttonwood Inn. My boyfriend and I visited in October 2010 and stayed for a week, to photograph the fall colors. He had been there before, but this was my first time. It won't be my last!! Bill and Paula are gracious, funny, and totally welcoming. Everything they did was in the category of over and above. Paula's breakfasts were amazing - the portions were generous, the food was creative and delicious and we had something different each day. I especially liked that we got to sit at our own table for breakfast... I know some people like the "family-style" experience, but I really don't want to talk to strangers in the morning, so having our own table was really lovely. Plus, if you want to talk to people, you can - they are just a few feet away. So for me it was a nice balance between being comfortable, and being social. The rooms are elegant and comfortable. Each room has its own private bath. Ours (Room 4) was two steps across the hall, but this didn't present any problems for us, since really nice robes were provided. The Inn is a real beauty - it was built in 1820 and added on sometime in the 40's. Everything is impeccably maintained and the temperature inside was just perfect - not too hot, not too cold. Lovely decor throughout and two really nice rooms you can use if you want (the formal living room for reading and the family room downstairs for watching sports or a video). There are probably 200 videos to choose from and you can sit down there and enjoy a glass of wine or whatever you choose to bring back with you from your day trips. Bottom line, we loved it! We highly recommend this wonderful place, and kudos to Bill and Paula for really providing a top notch New England B&B experience. We will be back for sure!!

Bill and Paula are excellent innkeepers who provide a warm welcome, neat and tidy rooms, delicious breakfasts and great senses of humor. The inn's location is so quiet it's easy to sleep undisturbed with the windows open yet it's within easy distance of town. We visited during leafing season and the views from the inn's windows provided one of the best vistas on the entire trip. There is a great rec room with a huge library of DVDs which is removed from the bedrooms so it's easy to watch a noisy movie without disturbing other guests.

This is the perfect B&B, within minutes of dining and attractions but in a quiet, serene setting, with outdoor hot tub out back to rest your weary bones after sightseeing, to hiking trails. Loved the downstairs TV room with ginormous DVD selection and fridge, which we used on our first night when we just didn't want to go out to another restaurant. Breakfasts a la Paula were indescribably delicious. Wish I could have taken her home with me. Both Bill and Paula rate as A+ innkeepers in my book. We stayed 3 nights and I could have stayed a week! This was our favorite B&B in our 2+ New England trip. Thanks for making us feel so welcome.

Breakfast was beautifully served and delicious. The inn was beautifully clean. We were entertained each morning by the hummingbirds while eating breakfast in the dinning room and continued drinking coffee on the front porch.

It was a romantic two days in very clean, great service and wonderful people.

After roaming around northern New England for a couple of weeks, my wife and I count our 4-day stay at Buttonwood as one of the most pleasant places we have stayed in the last 4-5 years. The quiet country setting of the inn was very refreshing after spending several days in downtown settings. We enjoyed using the hiking paths adjacent to the inn as a pleasant way to start the day. Sitting on the porch enjoying a cup of tea in the afternoon or coffee in the morning was probably one of the most relaxing stays we can remember, especially while watching the hummingbirds and chipmunks. The room we had was very neatly decorated and clean, had a comfortable bed, and had a good view over the lawn. The breakfasts every morning were absolutely delightful and nourishing with excellent variety each day. The hosts, Bill and Paula, were very friendly and went out of their way to help with answers to questions and dinner reservations.

My friend and I stayed at Buttonwood Inn in August 2010 for a lovely summer get-a-way. The Inn was truly lovely from top to bottom and was everything you could hope for out of a New Hampshire Bed & Breakfast in the White Mountains. Our rooms were clean, safe and very cozy (in a good way). We even enjoyed star gazing with Bill - the Inn Keeper! My friend and I are already sooooo excited to go back during ski season. In late June, we travelled with our three children to the Buttonwood Inn. My husband and I had stayed there before and loved it, but this was the first time with the kids. It ended up being the best family trip we have been on to date. Bill and Paula were, as always, so warm and accomodating. The rooms were beautiful and pristine. Breakfasts were delicious and filling. Paula took us on a hike in the mountains behind the Inn, and the views were breathtaking. The kids and my husband spotted a bear and her two cubs one morning, which was a thrill for them. The pool and hot tub were wonderful and we even had a fire one night. The kids rode the zipline at Wildcat Mountain, something they will never forget. We are already talking about going back next year!

My husband & I have stayed atl B&Bs in Cape Code, Martha's Vineyard, Vermont, Maine, and now New Hampshire. Each time we stay at one we think it can't get any better than this, but it does. This inn is the best one by far. It had the most to offer with a plethora of things to do onsite as well as off. The innkeepers are very helpful in every way. At most other inns we've stayed, the innkeepers were mostly invisible. You were left to figure out most things in the area yourself. Not here, you get personal attention when it comes to planning your day. And, that personal attention also shows in the beautiful decor of the inn. The B&B is extremely clean and very comfortable no matter where you decide to rest and relax. The beauty & quietness outside is a pleasant change from our everyday life. We will be returning to the Buttonwood every chance we get.

Our repeat visit to the Buttonwood Inn was just delightful once again. Bill and Paula do an outstanding job with the Inn. The Inn is spotless in all aspects. If you'd like your stay to be catered by the nicest of people you must meet Bill and Paula Petrone, Innkeepers of the Buttonwood Inn. The immaculate rooms and tasteful decor along with Paula's delicious breakfasts all make for the most heavenly experience possible. Just a couple miles from the village, yet secluded on Mt. Suprise you can experience all New Hampshire really has to offer. A great place for a romantic escape or to just go backpacking. We are already planning our next trip back soon...

Bill And Paula are great hosts and we couldn't have asked for a more beatifull inn. When and not if we travel back to this area we will not have to look anywhere but the Buttonwood Inn for a place to stay.

We had a great time here. The attention to detail was amazing, everything was super clean, the breakfast was delicious, the room was nice, there is a pool and hottub, extensive movie collection, etc. Bill and Paula gave us good recommendations for hiking and for dinner. Bill even helped us out when our car wouldn't start. The location of course is perfect too.

Paula and Bill were wonderful. Buttonwood Inn is beautiflul and the grounds are well maintained. The decor of the inn was more than we ever expected. It was immaculate, cozy, warm and very inviting. Bill was very helpful to guide us in great dining experiences and Paula is a fabulous chef. Her breakfasts are delicious and afternoon tea and sweets was delighful We definitely will return and let family and friends know of our experience.

Perfect getaway spot in the White Mountains. Great hiking trails out the back door. Awesome hot tub. Good central location for exploring all the Mt. Washington Valley has to offer. Bill and Paula really care about you during your stay. Great food. We've stayed all over the White Mountains and this is one of the best properties by far. Extremely clean and well maintained.

We had such a great visit at the Buttonwood Inn. Our hope was to find a place that was a stark contrast from busy life in the city where we could relax and couldn't be more pleased with our choice. Bill and Paula are extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. The attention to detail, both inside the inn and in helping us decide what to do in the area, including planning our hikes along the trails and finding great places for dinner, was what set it apart from other places we've stayed. You won't have to worry about breakfast though as Paula's cooking is incredible, as are her afternoon treats. We can't wait to return!

My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at the Buttonwood Inn. This was our third visit over the years, and the Inn just keeps getting better. The rooms are clean, updated with all conveniences, and cozy comfortable. Calling the daily breakfast delicious is an understatement. We've never eaten so well. The afternoon treats were just as remarkable. Paula and Bill met everyone of our needs and offered to do anything for us. We will be back and will recommend The Buttonwood Inn to our friends.

This is a quiet relaxing B & B near downhill, cross country skiing and snowshoe trails. We snowshoe and there are miles of trails literally just outside the back door. The breakfasts are delicious and creative. We also enjoy the nearby outlet shopping and the many fine restaurants in the area. The innkeepers (Paula & Bill) do a great job running the inn and assisting any way they can. We will be back again next year as we feel this inn is perfect for us.

My husband and I stayed at the Buttonwood Inn for Valentine's Day weekend. We found the inn to be very relaxing and we thought the Inn had great amenities - from a quiet reading room, lit fireplaces, entertainment room with bar, to the the outdoor hot tub. And another great perk was that the Inn was 1 mile from Cranmore Mountain and in a secluded location that was quiet and relaxing but still close to restaurants and shopping. Plus we thought the "Ski It Your Way" package was a great deal. It included 2 night's lodging, ski passes, and dinner at the Thompson House Eatery. Finally, our innkeepers, Bill and Paula were gracious and unobtrusive. They have a great Inn and I would highly recommend it to others!

I wanted to bring my wife to the Mt. Washington valley, and after some online research, settled on the Buttonwood Inn. We were very pleased with our stay there--the room was cozy, everything was neat and clean, and the breakfasts were delicious. Bill and Paula provided great advice about cross country skiing and dining options. Nice touches included monogrammed robes, tea, cocoa, and cookies in the afternoon, fireplaces, and an entertainment room with a big TV and movie selection. Having stayed in North Conway before, it was key for me that the Inn is well out of the town center--it was very quiet and peaceful, unlike places on the main route (most of them).

My husband and I have been traveling from our home in Maryland to New Hampshire for several years now, always staying in the Lakes Region but taking day trips to the White Mountains area. For our 40th anniversary this year, my husband (the trip planner of the family) chose the Buttonwood Inn for our special get away. We had never stayed in a bed and breakfast before and were just a bit anxious about whether a B&B was a good pick for us. Our stay at the Buttonwood was everything we had hoped it would be. We had our privacy, but were not isolated. Our innkeepers, Bill & Paula, were always ready to provide help - whether it be making dinner reservations or printing out airline boarding passes. We found the rooms to be very clean and the overall decor of the Buttonwood to be very pleasing. Our breakfasts were well planned and nutritious and absolutely delicious! We are still talking about the apricot scones and the yeast waffles. If there was a downside to our stay it was that it was too short. We came just a few days before Christmas and really did enjoy our daily excursions in the snow and cold of the North Conway mountains. We especially enjoyed the horse drawn open sleigh ride at an area farm. We do thank our innkeepers for making the stay at the Buttonwood Inn such a specail time. We hope to return before too long and will definitely go back to the Buttonwood!

A great weekend from start to finish. I was a little timid about taking my young (4yr old) son to a B&B. I decided to give it a try and after looking around for a bit I decided on the Buttonwood Inn for my two night/three day trip to North Conway. I had come accorss some Polar Express tickets late in the season and thought it would be a perfect for my son to experience what North Conway could be, a great time. The food was perfect, they catered to my son's age/taste with chocolate chip pancakes and waffles for the two mornings. The fresh fruit, fresh scones and the service made each breakfast a pleasure. The rooms were spotless and spacious, even spacious enough for a 4 year old. From start to finish my experience with the Bill and Paula would bring me back to their Inn again and again. Thank you for a wonderful time, both myself and my son appreciate everything you guys did for us and Paula, the sugar cookies were very tasty.

Spent weekend for Polar Express Train ride. Train Ride was great, Inn was clean and comfortable, The breakfasts were tremendous. I highly recommend this Inn

We spent two nights at the Buttonwood Inn and appreciated the quiet location away from the congested highway which runs through North Conway. Bill and Paula, owners/innkeepers, were very welcoming and accommodating. They even provided glutin free breakfasts for my husband who is glutin intolerant. They also recommended and made reservations for dinner for both nights. The restaurants, the Cider Mountain Company and Thomas House Eatery, provided a local flavor, had great food and also accommodated my husband's diet. Bill and Paula more than went out of their way to make our stay in their cozy inn a pleasant experience.

Very comfortable and welcoming B&B in a pleasant location. Bill and Paula were excellent hosts throughout. We were disappointed that our travel schedule permitted a stay of only 2 nights duration. We would most definitely recommend this inn to any discerning traveller...it is an outstanding place to stay.

Stayed for 3 nights over Columbus weekend when the place was full to capacity but still a comfortable, restful place to be. If you like the peace and quiet of B+Bs then this is a really good one. We stayed in 2 others during our recent trip and this was by far our favourite. Paula's cooking is excellent and the dishes vary every day. There is no choice of breakfast menu which could be a problem, I suppose, if you are a fussy eater, but the quality of everything is superb - a wider choice would undoubtedly compromise the quality in such a small place. The public areas are lovely - 2 large rooms which differ in atmosphere. One is great for TV and using the free internet. The other better for sitting in front of the fire with a book or chatting to other guests.The attention to detail and cleanliness of the place is second to none. Bill and Paula are very helpful in recommending local restaurants and making reservations- very keen to hear your feedback as they won't continue to recommend places that don't treat their guests well. Bill has a great sense of humour despite his serious look!! Great trails in the mountains directly behind the house so you don't always have to get in the car. Didn't use the pool so late in the season but I bet it would be lovely in summer. Would definitely recommend

We had a very positive experience at Buttonwood Inn. The hosts, the rooms, the furnishings, the breakfasts, and the amenities all met or exceeded our expectations. The facility is very spacious, with enough common rooms to spread out and enjoy privacy for reading or conversation. It's a very peaceful place. We were pleasantly surprised at the lower level, which offered a large space for relaxing. We wished we had planned a longer stay, to take advantage of all there is to do in the immediate vicinity. The hosts were very helpful in suggesting restaurants and activities in the area. A very pleasant experience overall.

We had a lovely time. Bill and Paula were very nice, the room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfasts and tea snacks were delicious. Bill and Paula accommodated my sugar-free diet with fresh fruit and honey-sweetened baked goods.

Bill and Paula's charming home was the perfect backdrop for our first experience with the stunning fall colors. Our room (#10) was spacious and comfortable. Paula's breakfasts were mouth-wateringly delicious. The business/entertainment room was extremely convenient with many dvds and books to choose from. A truly wonderful stay.

We had a 2 night stay in this lovely B&B. Bill and Paula were very welcoming and helpful with eating out and ideas for places to visit. We enjoyed the relaxing in the garden, pool and hot tub. The family games/leisure room was excellent for our teenagers and the main lounge had a piano which we played!. Bedrooms charming, very clean and plenty of room.The best bit was sitting on the porch with afternoon tea and cakes watching the humming birds.

We originally booked 3 nights at the Buttonwood, and stayed for a further 2, we liked it so much. Our hosts Paula and Bill were fantastic. Very friendly and helpful, with the added bonus that Paula is a wonderful chef, her gourmet breakfasts were perfect, imaginative but not huge, just enough to set you up for a days walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside. The Inn had everything we could wish for including pool, jacuzzi, great DVD collection, and a peep through Bill's telescope at the planets and stars!! Lali & Tony

This is the place to stay if you want to be close to nature, in beautiful surroundings, enjoy a peaceful night's sleep in a comfortable bed, well-equipped accommodations and helpful innkeepers. Given its proximity to the nearby shopping outlets, the inn provides a real haven of calm.

We just spend 5 days in the beautiful Buttonwood Inn and had a GREAT time. Bill and Paula are warm and wonderful hosts and Paulas Gourmet Breakfasts are simply amazing!!!!! Look no further in North Conway, because the Buttonwood Inn provides all ingredients for a perfect vacation: The beautiful rooms, the secluded location, the heated pool, the hottub in the garden, the nightsky, the hummingbirds, the garden, the proximity to shops and restaurants and two people who will make you feel at home!!!!!

This is an outstanding place. The rooms are comfortable and beautiful. We liked the mattresses very much --- they are high quality, much better than in most bed & breakfasts we have been to. We slept very well. There is central air conditioning, although we did not need it, it was cool in the White Mountains even in August. The location is perfectly quiet, we left the windows open all night long and did not hear a thing. (I am fairly noise sensitive ordinarily.) Breakfast is excellent. It's a drive of a few minutes from the main street of North Conway. We were there for four days with our six-year-old son, no problems whatsoever with that.

My wife and I have stayed at many B&B's over the years, but we agreed that the Buttonwood Inn tops the list. Every aspect of our stay was superb, from the friendly and easy reservation, to the beautiful and clean facilities and especially the exceptional breakfasts each morning. An added bonus is that the Inn is easily accessible from the alternate "North-South" roadway that allows you to bypass the awful Route 16 traffic that goes through the heart of North Conway. Bill and Paula are wonderful hosts. We felt pampered the whole weekend.

I had a last minute chance to get away and again choose the Mt. Washington area of New Hampshire. This time we were staying at the Buttonwood Inn with Inn keepers Bill and Paula. Everything on their website is quite accurate, actually what you experience is better than what you read. Had a lot of great food with Paula's culinary delights, and comparing notes about the area with Bill, who time after time came up with great suggestions for dinner. we would not hesitate to reccomend the Buttonwood Inn, and would go there again. This has been our 4th trip to The Buttonwood Inn in the last 2 years. Paula's breakfests, afternoon snacks and the comfort and hospitality alone make the trip from New Jersey worth while. Not to leave out Bill's and Paula' knowedge of the area for shopping, sight seeing and dining. We are looking forward to our next trip to North Conway and another stay at The Bottonwood.

Our stay at the buttonwood inn could not have been more fun and relaxing. My girlfriend and I spent 6 nights there over the weekend of the fourth and Bill and Paula saw to it personally that there was enough to keep us occupied during our stay, whether it was suggesting restaurants and making reservations, planning kayaking trips for us, or directing us towards great nearby hiking trails and water falls. The hospitality was outstanding--Paula is a very talented chef and we looked forward to her breakfasts and afternoon snack every day. Bill's got a great knowledge of the area and made sure we didn't have a dull moment or eat a bad meal while we were there. Rooms were cozy and commodities were all up to date. The inn is situated far enough from the center of town so as not to be noisy but downtown North Conway is only a 5 minute drive away. Overall, our stay was excellent, even given the rainy weather, and we would most definitely stay the buttonwood inn again.

Over the past few years I have visited the Buttonwood Inn in Kearsarge, NH, at least 4 or 5 times. Each time I have been delighted with the tranquility of the Inn, the friendliness of Bill and Paula, the proprietors, and the care they take in making the Buttonwood Inn such a perfect place for rest and relaxation. In the summer I have hiked into the woods from the beautiful tree shaded grounds of the Inn. In the winter I have snow shoed and gone cross country skiing from the front porch. Inside and out, in any season the Inn has been comfortable, well maintained, and the surrounding area of Kearsarge, North Conway, and the Mt. Washington Valley have provided many points of interest to visit, lots of hiking, skiing, and even shopping. And did I mention the breakfasts?! Paula is an excellent cook. Her breakfasts will keep you going until her rich and varied cookies or brownies turn up in the late afternoon. Bill serves the breakfast in a cheerful manner and is always available to offer advice about sightseeing in the region and interesting animal sightings. I just visited in June and plan to go back in the fall. Time spent at the Buttonwood Inn is rejuvenating.

Our stay at the Buttonwood Inn has been the best stay yet at a bed and breakfast. The care and attention that was given to us was far better than any hotel could ever give. The inn keepers were very kind, helpful and welcoming. So what can you look forward to while staying at this diamind in the rough? How does a nice hot jacuzzi under the stars sound after a long day of skiiing or snowmobiling. We loved lounging in the outdoor jacuzzi after a long day, coctail in hand, just a great way to relax and get ready for a night on the town. So if going out all night isn't your thing, then don't sweat it. The Buttonwood Inn has a great "lounge area" complete with a bar (not stocked) and bar accessories, flatscreen TV with a great sound system and an extensive DVD collection, a computer with internet access, and a cozy fireplace that is always roaring. This room is extremely cozy and feels just like home. It is the basement that everyone wishes they had. The morning breakfasts were the best start of our busy day out and about. Thank you Button Wood for an amazing stay in North Conway!

What's not to like. The inn is situated up the hill from the city, which allows for a quiet, peaceful setting with fantastic views. There are photos in the inn of encounters with moose, black bears, and humming birds. There is a series of trails in the back that lead part way up the hill. My wife and I snowshoed and bushwhacked our way up to the top of the cliff to capture a magnificent view of Cathedral and Whitehorse Ledges. There is also a pool and a hot tub in the back, the later of which is open in the winter. The rooms are all nice (we peeked into a few other than our own) and cozy. The inn also has two very nice common rooms with natural fireplaces. Breakfast could not have been better. Mixed fruit juices and coffee to drink. For the two breakfasts we had, we enjoyed cranberry scones or a fresh fruit salad to start, and a cheese omelet with baked squash, or homemade yeast-risen waffles with a high-grade warm maple syrup and the best sausage I ever had to finish. Bill and Paula spared no expense. We found the maple syrup be sold in town afterward and it was very expensive. Bill and Paula were very helpful in helping us choose a restaurant or finding our way around town. My wife and I were astounded that we had the whole inn to ourselves, but enjoyed the privacy while we enjoyed a glass of wine out in the hot tub in the evening. I honestly can't think of anything critical of our stay. Too short?

Bill and Paula are great innkeepers. They are genuine people who seem to love what they do. We stayed in Room 10 which has a jacuzzi in the bathroom and a nice sitting area in front of a propane fireplace. Having trails for hiking and snowshoeing right in their backyard was great for us as these are activities that we love. Saw 2 deer and a flock of wild turkeys on our second snowshoe trip. The Inn, although feeling secluded, is close to many, many great restaurants and shopping. We looked forward to the breakfasts that Paula cooks each morning and the suggestions from Bill about what to do in the area. A great inn to keep on your "must visit again" list.
