    Lovely Place to Stay

    August 11, 2010

We had a very nice room, with more than enough space for 2 adults and 1 older child. John & Donna were warm and friendly. We enjoyed the kayaks on the river - what a nice perk! Breakfast was so delicious that I had to ask for recipes! The scenery and views are wonderful. Still my daughter's favorite of all the b&bs we've stayed at.

Our favorite B&B in the Hanover area - great for weddings

    January 06, 2010

Breakfast on the Connecticut is my and my husband's favorite B&B in the Northeast. John and Donna (and sometimes Donna's mother!) are wonderful hosts and we look forward to seeing them each time we go up, which has been about five or six times--one of which was for our wedding. The location of the inn is great if you enjoy outdoor activities--it is right on the Connecticut River, and the inn has canoes and kayaks available for guests. It is on a quiet country road, perfect for cycling (beware if you have a road bike, though--the road can get a bit rough) and running. We also just enjoy lying out on the lawn when it's warm. As a wedding location, it is unbeatable for small weddings. When we were planning we did not hire a planner, as John and Donna helped us find most of our vendors. At the wedding itself, we had ~40 people. We held the ceremony on the lawn overlooking the river and had the reception in a tent beside the ceremony site. Donna and a small staff did the catering--the prices were very affordable, and it was probably the best food I've ever had at a wedding. Because it was a small wedding, most of our guests were able to stay at the inn and made a weekend out of it (there are 15 rooms plus a separate, two-bedroom guest house). I highly recommend Breakfast on the Connecticut, whether you're looking for a nice place to stay or for a wedding site.

    lovely experience!

    September 18, 2009

John and Donna love what they do and it shows. Lovely rooms, delicious meals, and a comfortable atmosphere. Enjoyed sitting out back on the adirondack chairs looking out on the river with a cup of coffee in the mornings!

    awful experience

    October 16, 2008

not near Dartmouth, but 45 mn away, mostly on unimproved roads. toilet, bath, sink in bed area, with no seperation. Innkeeper explains it as "very european". very expensive with sub-standard value. Suggest that Dartmouth caution prospective guests that it is only suitable for a very narrow client base

    Innkeeper Response
There are four ways to get to Dartmouth from our Inn - Route 5, Route 10, Interstate 91 and down River Road to Route 10. The mileage on all four is 12 - 15 miles and takes between 18 - 20 minutes. River Road has been designated by the State of New Hampshire as a scenic roadway as if follows the path of the river. After the road received its designation you are not allowed to alter the integrity of the road. On River Road there is a 3/4 of a mile hard-packed dirt section. That is the only unimproved section on any of roads leading into Hanover (Dartmouth). In fact the speed limit on all roads is 55 - 65 except in population centers. Our rooms range in size and amenities but all toilets are behind closed doors. We do offer privacy screens for those guests who are not comfortable with the room arrangement or who are traveling with children. We take pride in the cleanliness of the rooms and of the Inn and our housekeepers take special pains to make sure all is in top order. This guest stayed with us on Columbus Day Weekend. It is our busiest weekend of the year as 500,000 people come into the Upper Valley to view the colors. While most lodging facilities hike their rates at this time, we do not. They were attending a reunion at Dartmouth and Dartmouth each year reserves all our rooms for potential reunion attendees. They stayed one night, expressed their unhappiness and we acted accordingly. We returned their payment except for the night they stayed and then made several phone calls to other lodging properties to see if we could secure them lodging elsewhere. They stayed in Hanover at one of the chain properties. I am sorry that their experience was an unpleasant one but we have successfully catered to thousands of Dartmouth families in the last 10 years. We host Dartmouth families as sons and daughters enter as freshman; on freshman and sophomore parents' weekends; on graduation; on reunion;and even on wedding day.

Great for large and small events. Gourmet food. Elegant, Clean, Beautiful …………Simply lovely.

    July 08, 2008

I went there for a wedding………… The property is breath taking with beautiful views of the CT River and Green and White mountains. The property is well cared for. They have on site canoes and kayaks. The inn keepers, Donna and John, clearly know what they are doing. They are friendly, welcoming, accommodating and know how to manage a B&B perfectly. The common areas are spotless and elegant. The rooms are clean, beautiful, and have great views. Classic New England décor…………. With all the modern luxury. What impressed me the most was the food and catering for the wedding was all managed my Donna and John in house and it was 7 star!!!!! The food was cooked on site by Donna. She is a gourmet chef and produced some of the best food creations I have ever eaten………. They were able to manage a full inn as well as the event with out a glitch. Great place for event, family reunions, company retreats, as well as a quiet get away.

    Charming, comfortable stay

    September 20, 2007

The bad: My parent's room was a little small, but the rest of the inn afforded enough to stretch out. The good: Full bath facilities in every room. Our tour of B&Bs has taken us to several that required sharing a bath, which can be a bit of a hassle. Our room was quite large, as we requested a room with a cot for our boy. The views from the inn were nice and there were canoes on site which my boy LOVED. The innkeepers were very friendly and accommodating - and the breakfast was delicious! The woman really knows how to cook. The inn was basically spotless. This made me happy because the boy has taken to licking floors occasionally. I'm not saying "lick the floors" but it wouldn't make me panic if he did. Nice stay!
