Shaker Hill Bed and Breakfast

Beautiful landscaping, old shaker home, beautifully decorated. Innkeepers very friendly. Breakfasts over the top each morning. Enjoyed dining with other guests and meeting them.

The setting is really pretty, close to Dartmouth. The cookies and breakfast were "I want the recipe" good, and the owners were comfortable, friendly, and easy to be around. Very, very nice, we highly recommend

Warm, inviting B&B with gracious and attentive hosts. Outstanding 'made from scratch' breakfasts! Wood exposed floors and staircase, along with an abundance of appropriately placed antiques, make for a cozy dwelling. Artistically designed gardens on extensive grounds. Memorable stay and hope to visit again.

A gem hidden in a small town that is central to so much in the area. Run by 2 warm & welcoming people. Rooms are large, filled with antiques. View of lake from large porch is restful. Best breakfast anywhere. We are regulars here.

I wish we'd had more than one might to spend. We stayed at this lovely spot on our travels between visiting friends. The old house is wonderful and Nancy and Al are great hosts. After a delicious breakfast, we went to the Shaker Museum across the lake and had a very educational visit.

This was my husbands first stay at a B&B (Oct. 2011) although we did not share that with Nancy and Al until we were leaving. We are looking forward to going back again. Nancy's breakfasts are incredible right down to the edible flowers. The inn is just so relaxing, even the boys (their 2 dogs) are mellow. Just a nice, comfy, place to stay! Barbara and Bill C.

Our stay at Shaker Hill B&B was perfect. Our room was beautifully furnished with antiques and exquisite Shaker pieces. Everything was so clean and cozy, and our bed was so comfortable. Breakfast was always delicious, beautiful, and creative. Ben and Bo, the innkeepers' dogs are a delight, and Nancy and Allen are pretty special too! The rates are so reasonable. It will be our new "home away from home" for our getaways.

I was in the area for my Son's wedding. Stayed here for 4 days and it was great. Nancy and Al are the perfect host and very nice people. Breakfast was always excellent, their 2 dogs are just so lovable. Stay here you won't be disappointed---I will definitly stay there again. DR

My wife and I traveled here on the second night of our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! Al and Nancy were wonderful and made the stay comfortable. The breakfast was truly incredible, and possibly worth the price of admission all on its own! The room was clean, and beautiful. And you could not beat the view, as well as their beautiful property. We would highly recommend this to anyone who is in the area! Furthermore, the price was very reasonable, and well worth every penny!

I thoroughly enjoyed my overnight at Shaker Hill B&B. The Herb Garden room was charming and comfortable with everything I needed. The morning brought an outstanding treat as their 5 Star breakfast appeared on the table, course by course. Al and Nancy, along with their pooches, were warm and welcoming. This was a wise choice for me.

Nancy's scones are worth the stay by themselves. Not to mention the Morning Glory Muffins. But it only gets better from there. We started our breakfast with the most delicious fruit course. It was a poached pear with a light glaze and vanilla yogurt. Then we had a delightful spinach and cheese rolled omelet. Nancy's food is tremendous. Nancy and Al are gracious hosts. Our first morning we were heading out early to ski and were going to miss breakfast. Nancy provided us with scones, muffins, fruit and coffee early so we wouldn't miss out. It was unexpected but greatly appreciated. The accommodations are homey and comfortable. Each room has its own bathroom. Each room is filled with a collection of antiques-furniture, fixtures, bedding, and accessories. The sitting room is comfortable and full of books, magazines and comfortable chairs. A great place for quietly reading a book, or an engaging conversation with fellow guests. There is a TV, but I never heard it on the whole time I was there! On our second morning we were glad not to miss breakfast with the other guests. Besides the wonderful food, we had an engaging conversation. Five out of the seven people at the table happened to be educators and we had a lively conversation about different perspectives in American education. Nancy joined in as well. We were all reluctant to leave the table as it was refreshing to have a reasoned conversation with others who share your concerns about the direction of your profession. It was a wonderful opportunity. This place is a gem. If you want a relaxing atmosphere, with great hosts and wonderful food, this is the place for you. Nancy, Al, and their wonderful dog, Ben made us feel welcome and like part of the family.

Al and Nancy and their dog Ben are the most welcoming Innkeepers. The breakfast which is entirely home made is outstanding! This charming, very comfortable and cozy home was my haven from the freezing winter weather and then a fierce winter storm. Despite having plans Al and Nancy welcomed us when we asked to extent our stay because of the weather. The bed linens are luxurious, the bath towels thick and cozy. Quiet environment at night ensures a great night's sleep. Breakfast is not to be missed, fresh fruit, tasty warm scones, shirred eggs, baked oatmeal studded with nuts, dry fruit and brown sugar and superb coffee, a fine way to start the day. My hosts were very knowledgeable about the area and the best places for an evening meal. Even extending the use of their private kitchen to keep and prepare leftovers. This will be my place to stay when I travel to Dartmouth.

We found delightful shelter from the snows of NH at this comfortable, antique-filled B&B. Owners Nancy and Al couldn't have been more welcoming, even when the weather required us to stay an additional night. The bedroom was beautifully decorated and the twin beds covered with soft sheets and warm down. The bath was clean and bright, meeting our every needs. The common room downstairs is circled with comfortable seating, glows with a warm fire and includes a nip of sherry to ward off the winter chills. And then there is breakfast...what delicious ways to start the day. Nancy began our meals with warm fruit dishes and flaky, tender scones (a different variety every day). The main entrees varied from cooked-to-perfection egg dishes to baked oatmeal, plump with dried fruit,nuts and brown sugar. Hot tea and coffee are always available, as is a filled cookie jar. Our hosts made wonderful restaurant suggestions, and even encouraged us to order our food delivered after a long, tiring day. The parking is close to the door, and the snow was plowed efficiently and cleanly, despite the heavy storm. After 3 nights of their pampering, Nancy and Al have made guests for life! Thank you again for your gracious hospitality!

We stayed here for a photography class in October 2010, for a week and it was great. Nancy and Al are warm, friendly and very gracious hosts, with very friendly dogs. This is a charming B&B which provides the best gourmet breakfast, every day. We had a very pleasant experience and would return again.

We spent one night at Shaker Hill and were warmly greeted by Al and Nancy, who went out of their way to insure our stay was comfortable. After asking if we liked dogs (we do!), we were introduced to "the boys", 2 lovely Vischlas named Ben and Willy. Our room was spotless and the bed was comfortable. The chair at the desk could have been a bit higher, but no big deal! The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, and we were sad it was raining so we couldn't bask in their complete splendor. It would be a perfect place to just go and relax and get away from it all. There is nothing closeby to walk to, but a short car ride gets you to many restaurants. We ate supper at Jesse's and also highly recommend it for atmosphere, food and service.

We were in town for a wedding, and only had the opportunity to spend one night at this B & B. We highly recommend Shaker Hill Bed & Breakfast! Nancy and Al were incredibly gracious hosts, and were very focused on making sure that we were accomodated with the best of service. They have a beautiful home, serve an incredibly wonderful breakfast, and are a wealth of knowledge about the area. This 1790's home makes a wonderful B & B with its spacious and beautifully decorated rooms. Nancy & Al provide the the finest breakfasts in NH, which was our best meal every day. The location is in a quiet setting, nicely landscaped with several floral gardens. It is close enough to make day trips throughout NH or VT and we plan to come back again soon.

My wife and I went to our daughter's graduation at Portmouth and were glad we chose this outstanding bed and breakfast nearby.

We had a gift certificate for an overnight stay at Shaker Hill that we finally used for a concert at Dartmouth. The room was comfortable, very clean, nicely appointed, with a terrific mattress - no stiff back the next morning! There was even a small box providing all the little toiletries that one might just forget to bring. Nancy and Al made us feel like family immediately, and Willie and Ben (the dogs) are adorable. Breakfast was heavenly, with fresh homemade scones, lighter-than-air French toast, a selection of yogurts, granola, juices, teas, and of course, delicious fresh coffee. We loved being able to come back to the inn from Hanover and relax with a glass of sherry in the sitting room before turning in. Shaker Hill is conveniently located, while off the main roads, with beautiful lake and mountain views. We definitely plan on coming back!

GREAT location, view, service, breakfast, cookies, gardens, family dogs, innkeepers, ambiance, little touches (like Lindt chocolates and sherry). Would recommend this beautiful B&B to everyone.

A great place to stay! This inn is a must as it has wonderful accommodations, fantastic breakfasts, and a peaceful mountain view. The innkeepers will treat you with TLC from the moment you arrive.

This was by far the best B & B we stayed in during our recent two week trip around the state. It far exceeded any of the others in charm, friendliness, and service. Breakfast was outstanding. We plan on returning when ever we can.

The 1700 farmhouse has been beautifully restored and furnished. The owners make you feel like family and breakfasts are wonderful!

My husband and I recently spent a wonderful evening at the Shaker Hill Bed and Breakfast in Enfield, NH. The Inn was beautiful and inviting - the room was beautiful - and the breakfast was unbeatable. We would return here in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone who is looking for an unforgettable B & B experience.

Lovely destination at the end of a long drive! We enjoyed the view from the porch, the incredible bed and linens, the elegant breakfast and Nancy's knowledge of local restaurants. The room was large, the ensuite bathroom all we needed, and the whole place restful. I look forward to an opportunity to return.

The breakfast at Shaker Hill was simply magnificent culminating with Nancy's crisp but oh-so-light French toast and real maple syrup. Innkeepers Al and Nancy Smith were genial and obviously enjoyed their job as hosts, proud to show their gorgeous gardens and breathtaking view of the nearby lake. We were especially taken with the field-stone lined path of emerging wildflowers. Carefully chosen pieces in our bedroom created a charming and welcoming feel. The bed? a cloud with a homemade quilt! We look forward to the next time we are able to get up to Enfield and renew this delightful acquaintance.

The proprietors, Nancy and Al, went out of their way to accommodate all of our needs, and even anticipated them at times. I would highly recommend this B&B for anyone visiting the Canaan area of New Hampshire.

Al and Nancy Smith made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We enjoyed just walking around the property, looking at the beautiful gardens. Other times, we relaxed on the spacious front porch, reading a good book in one of the comfortable rocking chairs. Al and Nancy helped us plan trips to various places of interest in the area. Best of all were Nancy's gourmet breakfasts! We really felt like family and enjoyed our conversations with the other guests. We highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast! We had a most pleasant stay in this historic house close to Dartmouth. The Innkeepers, the Smiths are very nice, the grounds are beautiful with lots of flowers and the breakfasts were fantastic! We had the smallest room by choice and it was clean and thankfully air conditioned with a nice size bathroom. The bed was a tad soft and unfortunately we didn't realize that there was a roll down shade in the window as the morning sun would flood the room around 6. The other people staying at the house were all so nice too and we had wonderful conversations over breakfast. Nancy Smith also had many great suggestions of things to do during the day. They are quite knowledgeable about the area. All in all it was a great stay and we would stay there again if in the area.
