The newly restored 1649 Homestead and Carriage house overlooking formal gardens, the Oyster River and the old Mill Falls offers a captivating glimpse of Colonial country life. In our elegantly appointed accommodations you will find gas fireplaces, four poster canopied beds and Edwardian bed drapes, rich tapestries, oriental rugs and phones with data ports. Added comforts include full private baths, jacuzzis and oversized tubs . All 23 rooms are in the historic buildings. "Maples" with it's four fireplaces and Georgian furnishings offers fine dining in a candlelight atmosphere. The "Tavern" with its granite walls, fireplace and massive beamed ceilings provides a cozy spot for causal dining. "The Conservatory" is a delightful outdoor place to enjoy casual dining in the shade of an Old English grape arbor. Banquet and conference space to accommodate up to 100. Yankee Magazines "Editors Pick" 1999, Winner of 1998 "Best Lobster and Oyster Chowder in the New Hampshire Seacoast."

Great location; lovely room especially with the fire place to warm us; would like more light for reading in bed. Wish we had eaten dinner at the restaurant... smelled great!

Food was delicious, large portions and beautiful presentation. The rooms are very spacious, comfortable and cozy. The breakfast was hearty served with excellent service with a smile. I especially enjoyed the afternoon social on the screened in porch overlooking their lush gardens. The Inn brings you back in time...Sits hidden on top of a hill, amazing how large and private. Worth the trip for dinner and an overnight stay--very charming!

Wonderful dinner and complimentary breakfast way exceeded my expectation.
4.4 out of 5Disappointed in Durham
January 21, 2008
Entrees and dessert was not even adequate. Pork was overcooked, caesar salad didn't even resemble a caesar salad and chocolate cake was very dry. 20% tip was put on bill although service was extyremely slow and not worth 20%.
