Cheney House

My wife and I arranged to spend a long weekend as an early Thanksgiving with our 2 sons and their wives at our oldest son's house in Ashland. We like to have a getaway place from family when we visit so as to not wear out our welcome. We stayed at the Cheney House during a previous visit and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at that time so it was an easy choice to make to book a return trip here. Anthony and Bobbi made us feel totally comfortable. Our stay was for 3 nights, so we were served 3 delicious and substantial breakfasts that sustained us during day hikes in the local mountains. Anthony and Bobbi also provided us with information about places to see in the area. Summary for the trip - great time with great breakfasts, clean and comfortable room.

We had a wonderful 3 nights in this Inn. Loved every moment. The hostess gave us the feeling of home and a great welcome. Every thing was perfect. The breakfast is excellent !!!

Stayed in the Cheney House's Beautiful Blue Room. Very nice, very clean and well laid out. Has a nice small fridge in the hallway with complimentary bottled water. Fresh Cookies in room and various complimentary candies throughout the Inn. Found both Bobbi & Anthony to be very charming and entertaining. Breakfast far exceeded our expectations. Dfinatel planning on returning when in the area. This was my first B&B experince and i was o nice that it definately will not be my last! Many thanks to Anthony & Bobbi. You make great ambassadors for the B&B industry.

We wanted a place to stay close to The Flying Monkey for a concert we were attending in Plymouth, NH. The Cheney house was 6 miles from the The flying Monkey and was our first B&B. We loved the place, room and Bobbi and Anthony. Also enjoyed meeting two other couples while we were there. The house is an old victorian with such wonderful charm of it's own. We had treats in our room when we arrived and a lovely breakfast the next morning. Each room has it's own character and charm. We stayed in the Blue room which is lovely, with it's own private bath including a jacuzzi tub. It's located on a quiet street and we had our windows open and was still quiet enough to be able to sleep at night. Plan to go back and visit often as we felt like we had known them forever! Had a fantastic time at Bobbi & Anthony Hoerter's Cheney House B&B in Ashland. The food was great and the hospitality even better. Rooms were very comfortable. Would go back in a heartbeat.

If I could rate the "service" category higher, I would. My fiance and I had an early flight out of Boston and had to leave the B&B by 7am. Anthony & Bobbi both got up early to make us breakfast still and see us on our way. They were the most personable B&B owners I've come across yet, and we enjoyed our times SO much there. I don't anticipate having to go to New Hampshire again any time soon (we went for a wedding), but I would make a special trip just to go back and see them. I took my fiance out to New Hampshire for a getaway for his birthday. I found the Cheney House was close to several attractions so I booked us a room. Once there I was greeted warmly and even had my suitcase carried up for me. The room was very nice and clean, our breakfast the next day was delicious and our hosts were very kind and willing to give us information about the area. I was really sad when we had to leave and I definitely want to go back again.

Well what can I say about this charming B& B that hasn't already been said. This was our first time staying at a B&B, and I have to admit that my husband was a little leary about this. When we first arrived, we were met by a warm and friendly Anthony. He gave us the grand tour, and the minute he opened the door we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and completely set us at ease. You can tell by the conditiion of this historic home that it has been lovingly cared for and maintained throughout the years. The elegant stained glass windows, warm, rich wood trim and floors were spectacular. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and clean with fresh flowers, cookies and sweet treats to welcome us. The next morning we went for breakfast and were met by Bobbi, a very friendly and lovely hostess, fresh orange juice, coffee,tea and sweet breads were ready to be enjoyed. The entree was stuffed french toast, sausage and fresh fruit. So dellicious!!! Day two was eggs and bacon to order, fresh fruit and more wonderful sweet breads. Thank you Anthony and Bobbi for a wonderful B& B experience. I would not hesitate to recommend this B&B. It is worth a visit to Ashland to see!!

Cheney House was beautiful and well accommodating of our visit. They were interested in our visit and even recommended ski resorts. Breakfast was great and we felt comfortable in their home. I'd absolutely come back when I'm in NH.

We needed a dog friendly B&B with little time to plan. The Cheney House was great. Comfortable, convenient, and an excellent value.

The Cheney House location is in a small town within an easy drive of restauraunts, antique stores, shops, outdoor activities, and Keepsake Quilting. Anthony and Bobbi are gracious hosts. We have been there five times and will go again. They served a wonderful breakfast; their house has old Victorian woodworking.

We stayed at the Cheney House for three nights during our trip to New England to see the fall colors. The inn is near Squam Lake where On Golden Pond was filmed. The town of Ashland isbabbit depressed, but the inn is close to many great tourist areas. Many of the restaurants and shops were closed for the season, so we had to travel to nearby Holderness and Meredith for meals and outings, but that was ok with us. Anthony and Bobbi were very pleasant and accommodating innkeepers and we enjoyed getting to know them. The room was large and comfortable and there was always plenty of candy and snacks available. The house is unique and caters to those on a moderate budget. The breakfasts were great!

So much to rave about - immaculate room and bath, comfortable mattress, delicious breakfasts, gorgeous original woodwork! Anthony and Bobbi are gracious, friendly, welcoming hosts who go out of their way to ensure a wonderful stay for their guests. My husband and I had a wonderful anniversary weekend.

We had the best time at the Cheney House. Our visit was so relaxing, despite hurricane Irene. Bobbi and Anthony were such wonderful and accommodating people...we felt like family. While Ashland is small and somewhat isolated, we absolutely plan to return so we can stay in the wonderful atmosphere at The Cheney House.

Never having been in the area, we flew into the Manchester airport and began a wonderful trip in the New England area. The start of the trip was spent here at the Cheney House, the owners were great to help us get started with a full breakfast each day and lots of ideas of where to go and what to see. The evenings were spend relaxing in the living area with all the comfort of being in our own home. It was great! For the ladies I would suggest at least one full length mirror be available. I would definitely return, the ambiance was well worth the extra money. SM

Everything was wonderful-the accommodations were great and Bobbi and Anthony were gracious and very friendly. We had a ball and look forward to staying with them in the future.

We just returned from the Cheney House B & B, and had to write a review because we enjoyed our stay so much. Anthony and Bobbi were so warm and accommodating. The details were what put it over the top. The breakfasts were delicious (like stuffed french toast!), the plate of home baked cookies in our room, the immaculate and charming rooms and gathering areas, the refrigerator with bottled water and room for our snacks, rack of wine glasses for our use, room with treadmill, etc. I especially enjoyed working on the puzzle in the living room in our down time, while also watching the ball game.

We had a lovely visit at the Cheney House this past weekend. My husband and I were traveling with some friends for the Mooseman for triathlon. It was the perfect place to stay. They welcomed our dog, Jersey and even had treats waiting for him in our room! :) Bobbi was so sweet to make a VERY early pre-race breakfast for us on the day of the event. The house was VERY clean (I couldn't help but notice each and every surface was perfectly dusted) and we were quite comfortable there. A very quiet area and just lovely.

Beautiful setting, very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble - even picking us up from our restaurant when it started to rain, unprompted. Rooms beautiful, breakfast exceptional and free jelly beans, what more could we ask.

We had a great time at Cheney House. Bobbi & Anthony made our stay very enjoyable. We were given useful information which made the most of our 1-day stay. Would highly recommend to others.

If you like some great, down to earth, and verrrry accommodating hosts, this is the place for you. We had a great time and felt right at home. We would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast.

The Innkeepers were friendly, extremely hospitable, eager to please and made us feel at home. Rooms beautifully done out, very detail orientated. Beds very comfortable, although we found the airconditioner to be noisy. Breakfasts were delicious with fresh fruit & freshly baked dishes. We were made to feel very welcome and wish we had more time to interact with Innkeepers.

The hosts Anthony & Bobbi Hoerter are very nice, down to earth people. The rooms are comfortable and clean, nicely decorated. They have a nice selection of breakfast food. I have food allergies, and they are very accommodating.

We loved our stay at Cheney house. The room was very comfortable. The Breakfast's where so filling that we only needed a snack in the afternoon. Anthony and Bobbi are great at giving you all kinds of ideas for things to see and do. It truly felt like our home away from home. You must see the covered bridge at exit 27 and tell Anthony what the sign says.

I want a take two minutes to give a wonderful thanks to Antony and Bobbi, those people are awsome host. We went with our bikes for de laconia bike week and they even made room for our motorcycle in their garage. This on top of everything else they did for us. We felt almost like we would be part of their family. They are not just very good host, but I consider them my friends! thanks to them, we'll see each other again next year! Pierre & Alain

We were extremely pleased with everything about the Cheney House! Tony and Bobbi made us feel right at home. This was our first stay at any BandB, and we are already making plans to return. We strongly recommend Cheney House to anyone who is looking for a relaxing stay in a unique well preserved victorian setting.

The innkeepers are warm and welcoming and did everything necessary to make our stay memorable. We'd return for another visit if travel plans permit.

This was our second stay at the Cheney House, and it was even better than the first. The host and hostess were welcoming and made our weekend special. The victorian home is gorgeous, comfortable. Location great to see the lake region in New Hampshire. Food and coffee excellent. Will be there again.

Nice place, great value. Very friendly and accommodating. We stayed over valentine's day and they made the extra effort to put out candy and make it special. Nice people. I would definitely recommend it.

The 15th,16th,and 17th of November were an absolute delight - because we were fortunate enough to spend those days at the Cheney House; the hosts, Anthony and Bobbi, are the nicest people...they certainly know how to run a B&B! The breakfasts were delicious, the home is beautiful, and the pets are friendly, fun, and well trained. Topped every night off by sleeping in the most comfortable bed we've ever been in. We'd highly recommend the Cheney House to anyone wanting to stay in a great Bed and Breakfast - and we'll definitely stay there again on our trip to New England from California! My wife and I found this little B&B on the internet because we really enjoy NH. It is a lovely old 18th century home with amazing original wood work. Anthony and Bobbi are very friendly...very attentive to our needs and extremely fun to talk with. We really enjoyed their pets also; Bandit, Toby & Teddy...wanted to take all home with us...Anthony and Bobbi thanks for everything, you are terrific hosts and maybe next time Anthony we'll get to see your train set-up. My wife and I found this little B & B in Ashland that exceeded our expectations. It was a lovely old 1800 Century Home with good ole down home hospitality. Anthony and Bobbie were very friendly and attentive to our needs. They truly enjoy what they are doing. Our stay was very enjoyable and we will consider this Inn again when visiting this area. We especially enjoyed thier pets...very adorable and you will want to take them home with you.

Bobbi and Anthony made us feel welcome and at home during our four day visit. The breakfasts were beautifully presented and delicious. We enjoyed playing with Bandit and Toby. Bobbi has a knack for detail both with the atmosphere and little goodies left for our enjoyment.

I fell in love with the house as we drove up the road. We were greeted by Anthony and Bandit (their dog) in the driveway. (Bandit loves all the attention) Anthony showed us the inside and then to our room.. Beautiful inside and our room was so cozy. Homemade cookies, what can I say. (We all love homemade cookies) Breakfast was delicious for the two mornings we were there, not to mention the table setting was so pretty. I had a great time playing with Toby their cat, and have thought about him alot since we left.. Bandit, well he was one of a kind. So friendly, like his owners and yes he is the attention hogger. But you got to love him. Teddy their cat was beautiful, just wish I got to play with Teddy a bit more. I never got to meet Molly but I plan on it next time.. Our stay was like home away from home and I have already told my husband I want to go back next year.. Owners, Bobbi and Anthony, were very gracious and most anxious to make our visit perfect. The room was extremely comfortable-especially the bed. Bobbi's breakfast fare was beyond delicious. A great way to start the day.

Since we were three ladies traveling together we did not know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality, friendliness and comfort we received. So far, this is the best B&B we've stayed at, both here and in Europe.

Cheney House was a lovely place to stay. Cheney House was the perfect place for a quiet, relaxing night away from home. The Inn is a beautiful old home with incredible original workwork and charm, with comfortable and clean rooms. But, the best aspect of this B&B is the owners. Bobbi and Anthony were warm, welcoming, and easy to talk to....willing to chat about their home and the area, but not over the top. Breakfast was delicious and unpretentious. We highly recommend Cheney House!

We were made to feel like we were family visiting for a week-end. Breakfasts were not only an appitizing but a feast for the eyes as well. We will not have a problem returning next year.

We were taken with the spacious, beautifully decorated rooms. The hosts were gracious and made a point of adding special touches, such as cookies, candy, bottled water for guests. We enjoyed meeting their pets and viewing the train room. Awesome!

Cheney House is a charming inn, incredibly clean and comfortable. The innkeepers, Bobbi and Anthony were very friendly and we shared stories of the Appalachain Trail. The breakfast was delicious. I would highly recommend staying here.

My husband and I had never been to the region, and Cheney House was a perfect fit for us. The owners are sweet, the room was delightful, and we definitely enjoyed our breakfast.

Arriving at 10 pm, we were warmly greeted by owner Anthony and Bandit, their dog. Anthony told us about this history, and showed us about. Rooms were clean and comfy, breakfast plentiful and good. Spent 3 lovely nights. Let us park our motorcycles in the garage to keep them out of the rain. Great people, great place!

We had a wonderful stay at the end of June to attend a friends wedding... two nights of pampering and comfort. The beds were super comfy, the house was beautiful and breakfast was spectacular. Can't wait to go back.

Hosts were friendly and accommodating. We had to be out the door by 5:30 for a local triathlon, and they were happy to not only have breakfast ready at that time, but fixed a breakfast appropriate for a race day. Hosts clearly went above and beyond.

What a wonderful stay we had over Mooseman weekend! Our hosts, Bobbi and Anthony were so friendly, hospitable and accomodating. Our room was clean and big enough for all our bags of stuff for the triathlon. We sure appreciated the jacuzzi bathtub too! We were able to keep our bike in their secure garage and Bobbi graciously got up very early on the event morning to make sure the athletes got an early breakfast before we left for the event at 5:00 am. She went out of her way to find out about restaurants we wanted to try and she made some wonderful recommendations. And, since we always miss our pets when we travel, we were happy Anthony introduced us to their dog Bandit and cats Teddy and Molly. What a wonderful way to relax and unwind in the evening by sitting in their lovely living room, doing jigsaw puzzles -something we so enjoy but just never have the time to do at home. They made us feel like we were at home....just without the chores! We will definitely book with them again!

This was our first experience at a B & B and the Hoerter's (owners/operators) made it a wonderful first experience. The rooms were nicely equipped with Direct TV and dvd players. The best part was the shower/jacuzzi. There seemed to be an endless amount of hot water to go with the jets for the jacuzzi. It was fantastic and I hope everyone that stays there takes advantage of it. Service from the Hoerter's was outstanding. We were there for a triathlon both weekend days. Our days started around 6am each day and they accommodated us for breakfast both days with excellent french toast on Sunday. They also allowed us to store our bikes in the storage barn. With room availability they were also enough to allow us to check out later than usual around mid afternoon. I would recommend Cheney House to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Loved the uniqueness of the old house, amazing woodwork from a centuary ago. Really comfortable bed and little touches that make our smile (Homemade cookies in the room). Loved having the wireless connection. Breakfast wonderful. Innkeepers attentive and friendly. Hope to go back.

we stayed at the Cheney house for one night in early March 2009 for a ski weekend. The bed and breakfast is charming with lovely period detail. Bobbi and Anthony made us feel very welcome, their friendliness and attention made it for a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. We would definatly consider coming back for a couple more nights.

A beautiful home in a beautiful part of the world. Anthony, Bobbi and Bandit couldn't have made us more welcome. We enjoyed our stay immensely and would love to return to Cheney House and Ashland. If Bobbi offers you the soufflé, don't hesitate to accept!

We had an exceptional time at the Cheney House, where we felt instantly at home. My 9 year old daughter had a blast, especially with Bandit the dog. We love it!

We spent a wonderful week at Cheney House while working on a condo we had recently purchased. Bobbi and Anthony made us feel right at home. They were so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Our room was nicely decorated and clean and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. Like most B&Bs we've stayed at, there wasn't a lot of room to put things away but we didn't mind living out of our suitcases and we thought the room size was more than adequate. Breakfast was delicious and served at a time convenient to guests. We loved the location too. Cheney House is close to some good restaurants , Squam Lake, the White Mountains, and many activities. We would highly recommend Cheney House to fellow travelers.

Stayed for one night only and the owners were very attentive to me and my needs. They supplied a crate for my little dog so I could go out to eat. I gave the owners permission to check on my little dog if he was whining. While I was gone he was whining and possibly getting overheated that Bobbie took care of my little guy and held him and babied him until I got home a couple of hours later! :) Very nice people and they made me feel relaxed and at home. The matteress were totally awesome for a good night sleep!

A delightful stay. The interior woodwork was breathtakingly beautiful. A special treat to see it.

I spent a week at Cheney House and Bobbi and Anthony went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. They were both so kind and friendly that I felt I was visiting with long-time friends rather than alone in an unfamiliar area. The bed and pillows were wonderful and Bobbi is a gifted cook.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a b-day/weekend getaway. The Cheney's made us feel at home and the room was amazing! The food was delicious, and Anthony's stories were intriguing! We will visit again!!

My husband and I stayed at the Cheney house for 2 nights. Both Bobbie and Anthony are great hosts, they tell a great story about their adventures, dogs, and boo boo the bear who comes to visit every once and a while. They are just genuinely nice people. The house is fantastic, and maybe haunted. The location is great, you can walk to a little town with a great restuarant and some shopping.

What a warm welcome we recieved at the Cheney House. Bobbi and Anthony could not have been better hosts. Bobbi's breakfast was just what we needed before we went back to our travels.

Bobbi and Anthony have the true innkeepers touch. No detail is to small, everything in the beautiful 1883 victorian home is meticulously kept and Bobbi's breakfast is a delight. Highly recommended.

What warm and down to earth folks! Felt like home!

After traveling from the West coast on a "red eye" and driving from Boston, I was delighted to be greeted by Bobbi and Anthony and served a wonderful, fresh-cooked breakfast. After a tour of the home and a brief nap in a lovely room with very comfortable bed and jacuzzi tub, I was gently awakened with news of a call from my friends. I could not ask for a more friendly atmosphere or attentive hosts. Food was delicious and hospitality great. I'd stay again and recommend it to anyone traveling to Ashland.

We received a warm welcome inspite of arriving very late after a grueling drive of 13 hours. Bobbi and Anthony added materially to the enjoyment of our six day visit in New Hampshire with the quality and variety of our breakfasts and making us feel at home during our stay. The rooms are lovely with wonderful light and comfortable beds. The exterior and interior of the house are surperbly finished in good taste. We will be back.

A warm and friendly welcome by the Inn Keepers Bobbi & Anthony. Beautiful inn with nicely appointed airy rooms,private baths,very comfortable beds,clean ,quiet with lovely wood floors and carpeting to keep your toes warm and plenty of windows to let in the sun & fresh air. Great breakfast served in the victorian dining room with a relaxing atmosphere -- a great way to start the day! Located between the Lakes Region and the White Mountains---it doesn't get any better for site seeing--shopping--or just curling up with a good book. We stayed at the Cheney House on our wedding night, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We didn't arrive until late, and were completely exhausted after our long and exhilarating wedding day. Lucky for us, the bed was incredibly comfortable. We both enjoyed a very needed and very peaceful slumber. The innkeepers accommodated us in every way. They served us a later-than-usual breakfast which gave us the opportunity to sleep in a little bit. They even took a couple pictures for us on our first morning as a married couple and gave us a CD with those pictures to take along with us. The breakfast was hearty and delicious. My only regret was that we didn't have more time to stay and enjoy the company of our two very gracious hosts.
