Four of us (2 couples) stayed 3 nights in this lovely B&B right in the heart of downtown. Right from the start Camillo was welcoming and helpful. The long, winding, narrow stairs typical of Amsterdam were a challenge for us seniors but Camillo came to the rescue and hauled all of our suitcases up the steep stairwell. Our two identical rooms were connected by a single bathroom which we shared with our friends, establishing the knock and lock policy right at the beginning! Camillo provided lots of great recommendations for places to eat, sites to see and pubs to grab a beer or two or three! He gladly made us reservations when we asked for assistance. We had fresh clean towels daily along with fresh roses in the rooms. He provided a delicious breakfast delivered to our rooms each morning at our requested time. We had breads and cheeses and assorted meats and granola and juice and coffee and fresh fruit. We set out each day quite full and happy! Without even asking, Camillo even packed us up a breakfast to take on the morning we left at 6:30am for the airport. We checked in for our flights and then sat and consumed the wonderful sandwiches and juice, fruit and yogurt and he packed for each of us. This was truly a great find in our search for a place to stay in Amsterdam. Centrally located it was an easy walk from the train station. Camillo was very hospitable, gracious, helpful and made our stay very memorable. We highly recommend this lovely B&B tucked away in the heart of the city.

We were delighted with our room during our two night stay, booked at short notice. It's situated just 5 mins from the train station in a quiet side street of period buildings. The owner made us feel so welcome and provided a great introduction to the city. There's only two rooms which share a bathroom and this wasn't an issue at all; everything was squeaky clean! We loved returning late at night to our toasty room! Thanks a lot.

As a caveat, I only stayed here one night with my husband, because our train and plane schedules gave us an extra night in Amsterdam at the end of our trip. For us it was a very good location, the train station is a 5 minute walk away, the Jordaan/Red Light District/Anne Frank House is 10 minutes away, Dam Square is 5 minutes, etc. We had a very cute room, good size but not huge, and we had some space to spread out a bit. It was decorated simply but nicely and very plain. A good large breakfast was included, with plenty of options, served in our room at the time of our choice between 8-10 AM. Camillo (we did not meet Joost) was very welcoming and friendly, and he gave us ideas for the day and a good recommendation for dinner. Our room was in the back of the building – it’s a very lively area but our room was very quiet. They were very accommodating with us having an early arrival – Camillo even brought our bags from the storage area to our room when it was ready while we were out in Amsterdam for the day. The room had nice extra welcoming touches, like stack of DVDs, a binder with helpful articles and information, travel books, coffee in the room, and nice large comfy bathrobes. Our bed was very comfortable, a real two-person bed, not two beds pushed together like we’ve had in some other places, and you definitely feel the difference.

The cheapest and fastest way to reach Amsterdam center is by train. At Schiphol Airport take a train to Amsterdam Central Station. This takes about 20 minutes and costs roughly 4 euro per person. The trains leave about every 10 minutes. A Taxi from/to Schiphol will cost you about 40 euro Beware that there are many illegal taxi's that tend to be quite aggressive towards tourists! There is also an Schiphol Hotel Shuttle bus. It takes you for 13.50 euro to many hotels in Amsterdam. Ask for the Avenue Hotel and you will be taken exactly to the corner of our street
