The Collector Bed and Breakfast offers bright, stylish and spacious rooms, each with its distinct own character: one decorated with Amsterdam School (Deco) furniture, the other one with Gispen Dutch Design classics. Both rooms have an ensuite bathroom. There's a guest kitchen for your breakfast around the clock. You will find a well stocked fridge, fresh fruits, a Nespresso coffee machine and lots more. Amenities include bath robes, a hair dryer, toiletries, a safety box, a guest computer to use for internet and email and there's even a bagage storage in case of early arrival or late departure. Here you will be able to freshen up, too. The house dates back to 1914 and is located just behind the Museum square with the Concert Hall (Concertgebouw), the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh and the Stedelijk Museum. The 17th century canal area is just a 10 minute walk from the B&B. There is direct bus line nearby for transfers from and to the airport. Your host Karel Poels is an active collector, who can tell about his different collections with lots of enthusiasm. You will find those collections in the guest rooms and the rest of the house: unique Dutch wooden skates, branded pins, chinaware, you name it!

We booked two rooms in early January. I am American and my friend is Danish. The rooms were spacious, impeccably clean yet with a cool relaxed vibe. The art and decorations reflect a taste level and wit uncommon in any household, let alone a boutique hotel or Bed and Breakfast. I have had the good fortune to stay in literally the finest hotels and presidential suites all over the world. The Collector is one of my favorites, and I would choose it over any so-called "swank" hotel because it is charming, has all one needs, and my room came with a bookshelf stocked with real lit, and not the usual mass market paperworks. My friend's room overlooked a wonderfully lush back garden, and though literally steps away from a major shopping district, chic bistros, and a convenient tram, it was quiet. The kitchen was fully stocked with all one needed really. My friend lived off the yogurt and bananas alone. There was also an easy to use espresso machine (I am American, remember), and the walls covered with art and ideas and inspiration. I love this place, and wish there were kindred outposts all over the globe. It is a treasure and the owner is to commended for providing the kind of old world elegance and charm but with all the modern conveniences, including huge bathroom with wonderful tiled shower and designer soaps. The bed and linens are also top notch. Book now. You won't be disappointed. The Collector is truly a radiant rose among the carnations and horns of many overpriced and overhyped options. I can't wait to return. Best, Zack A San Francisco

I absolutely loved my stay at The Collector. Each room has a unique 'collection'... be it dolls, tiny bottles, shoes, or alarm clocks. Very pretty. When in season, there are fresh tulips in the room each day. All 3 rooms come with ensuite bathrooms. The kitchen is open all day long, and the fridge is always stocked up with plenty of fresh and delicious food. This B&B is located in a quiet neighborhood, away from the crowds that you would otherwise find closer to Amsterdam Central station; yet, most places are easily accessible from here. The place is two blocks away from the Concertegebouw, and about a 5-7 walk from Museumplein where most of the famous museums are located. There is a tram station right across the street, and another one opposite the Concertegebouw. The owner, Karel and his assistant Fauzan were wonderful hosts and had great recommendations on sightseeing places etc. This would definitely be my go-to place when I am in Amsterdam next! Tip: Book early as there are only three rooms and they get pretty booked up especially in high season.
The Garden room at The Collector is at the rear of the house and includes a balcony overlooking the city gardens. The room is decorated with original art deco furniture and some your hosts unique collections.
