Prairie Creek Inn Bed & Breakfast

While planning to visit our daughter at college, my husband and I decided to try something different. We had recently stayed at different hotels on each visit with the hopes of finding one that we liked and would return to when we came back to Lincoln. Even though the Inn was farther out, we decided that it would be nice to stay at a B&B and enjoy a little peace & quiet during our downtime. That was the BEST decision we've ever made. When we arrived on Friday night, Maureen & Bruce met us at the front door. They instantly made us feel right at home. It was kind of a cool, breezy evening and the smell of the wood-burning fireplace was very welcoming when we walked into the foyer. After a quick tour of the property and a brief introduction to a couple of the other residents (Peanut Butter, the cat and Winston, the dog) we got settled into our room. In the morning we woke to the sound of birds in the trees outside of our windows--no traffic and no noisy residents in the hallway/next door. After breakfast on Saturday morning, Winston, the dog escorted us down the trail to see the cabin that is currently under construction...we can't wait to see how it looks when it's finished. Throughout our stay our hosts were most gracious and made us feel very comfortable in our "home away from home". The food was delicious (and filling), and our room was extremely comfortable. We particularly appreciated the electric blanket on a couple of very cool early spring nights--no cold sheets! Sunday evening we cuddled on the couch in front of the huge projection screen and enjoyed a DVD that we had brought with us. As our daughter was only a freshman this year, we're looking forward to returning to see Bruce & Maureen over the next few years. We will DEFINITELY recommend the Prairie Creek Inn to all of our friends/family who might be traveling in the Lincoln area. ~B. & B. in Wyoming

We stayed overnight in the Prairie View Room for our 6th anniversary. It is a wonderful location-outside of the city limits but close enough to head in to Lincoln for a meal or other entertainment. We LOVED walking around the grounds-great lakeside trail and prairie path. Bruce and Maureen were very ammenable to a few particular needs and were very flexible with mealtime in the morning. The food, service, hospitality, and room were all excellent!

We rented the entire property for our mom's 90th birthday celebration. All of my siblings, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (there were 33 of us) descended on Bruce and Maureen for the weekend of May 5th. We could not have dreamed of a better venue! Bruce and Maureen provided the perfect location for our family, and the breakfasts were beautifully prepared and delicious. We were able to tell and re-tell stories, laugh, and re-connect with each other. We are looking for another venue in Washington for our next family gathering, but it is going to be hard to find anything that will live up to what we were able to experience at Prairie Creek Inn! Thanks Bruce and Maureen for everything! We will never forget the hospitality you showed us.

We were given a gift certificate to stay at Prairie Creek Inn. We stayed the end of October and had a wonderful stay. Bruce was a very friendly host and we enjoyed visiting with him and learning all about the history of the house. We walked around the grounds and enjoyed the views from our suite. It was very relaxing and so peaceful out in the country. The city of Lincoln, NE is only a few short minutes away and we enjoyed a nice dinner that evening. We would recommend this B&B.

As a wedding gift we held my son's wedding here and it was a memorable time for all of us! We rented both houses for two nights, used the lake venue for the wedding ceremony, the barn for the dinner, dance, and reception. We had rehearsal dinner in the main house the night before the wedding and the bride and groom opened gifts the morning after the wedding during a wonderful breakfast that our hosts created! Family members and the wedding party stayed both nights which made the event a special time for everyone. There were 175 guest at the wedding. Maurine and Bruce were so good to everyone- I'll never forget Bruce and Maurine staying up watching movies with the bride and groom after the wedding party! Bruce even let us use his brand new- unopened father's day present, a very nice croquette set after we spied it in the basement :). We were basically allowed to take over the entire property, Bruce and Maurine accommodated our every request, and there were many, most of which required hard work and time from our hosts. A great place to have a wedding you and your guests will cherish the memories forever! As a side note, the event was VERY affordable and exceeded my son and his wife's wildest dreams!

My sister and myself stayed with Bruce and Maureen for 4 nights in October, 2011. We heard of them through my Uncle who lives in Lincoln and they said it was a refurbished home brought to the outskirts of Lincoln a few years earlier. After viewing their website, I was hooked. I remembered this house when I lived in Lincoln and had no idea it had been moved and fixed up. Well, fixed up is an understatement. What Bruce and Maureen have done is outstanding. The decor is welcoming and beautiful. There was even a picture in one of the sitting rooms that was the exact picture we had on our own childhood wall when we were young growing up in Northeast NE on a farm. We had wonderful perks every step of the way. We were able to walk to the lake, pet some horses, check out the barn, hug a kitty, come and go as we pleased and arrived back to the house with warm lights glowing as our welcome. Breakfast was great and since we didn't eat pork, Bruce cooked us turkey as a substitute, along with fresh fruit each time. He also served us on the 3rd floor our last morning, bringing everything up the elevator, since the house was full that morning of a large group for a wedding that weekend. We had TV, movies if we liked, or if we just stayed on the 3rd floor, we had a TV there too. They had a shelf of books with all kinds of material and I found a favorite to read in the evening. We slept well, as my sister had the bed and I had the sleeping sofa and could watch the sunrise from my bed. It really couldn't have been a better stay. I will certainly stay there again.

The room, and the views from the room, were wonderful. I stayed in the Prairie View Room with the private bath, where there is a whirlpool tub. It was a very relaxing stay, and I loved hiking the trails on the property. Bruce and Maureen were excellent hosts. Thanks!

This was our first Bed and Breakfast experience and it was OUTSTANDING! We stayed there for my wife's birthday and found a peaceful escape from our hectic schedules. The owners were extremely kind and inviting putting us right at ease. Our room was comfortable and we loved the care taken in remodeling this 1911 home. The breakfast was tasty, I was especially impressed with the omelet, and I don't usually like eggs. They strive for locally grown food whenever possible and the freshness makes a huge difference. We also like the grounds that are there. We hiked a few of the trails and enjoyed the virgin prairie just outside the front door. If you want to stay at a place that is warm and friendly, stay here.

My wife and I enjoyed the most wonderful trip to the Prairie Creek Inn we could have asked for last month. Bruce and Maureen Stahr were incredibly generous and accommodating, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. We had stayed there about a year ago, and the innkeepers have done so much more with the house and the property, I had to write about how glad we were to return! The house is beautiful with a story you have to hear and see to believe, the grounds are gorgeous, and the lake and hiking trails were absolutely picturesque every step of the way. The food was GREAT!!!--exactly like my mother used to make. Getting to walk through the beautiful old barn that has been so painstakingly restored and interacting with their horses was a huge highlight for me. Bruce even set up the croquet set for us to play in their gorgeous yard, and we had a marvelous time. The antique Steinway piano was jaw-dropping, and they even let me play it for a bit. Simply put, this was the best trip we could have asked for, and we will DEFINITELY be back! Thanks, Bruce and Maureen, for such a MARVELOUS experience!

Owners have done a magnificent job remodelling. Breakfast included 2 choices of egg cassarole (both very good), fresh fruit, bacon, and cinnamon rolls - Outstanding! Our first B&B visit was outstanding.

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay. It was a beautiful house with nice spacious rooms. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful! I'm gluten intolerant and Maureen even made me gluten free pancakes along with all the other food! We left stuffed!

My husband and I were recently married at Prairie Creek Inn Bed and Breakfast. We have both been married before and wanted a small wedding where we could be surrounded by our families. We ended up with 27 guests and Parlor easily accommodated everyone. We were married in front of the fireplace by Pastor Jason Thacker. We were introduced to Pastor Thacker by the Inn owners Bruce and Maureen. Pastor Thacker did a wonderful job and is just as caring and warm as Bruce and Maureen. Bruce and Maureen accommodated our every need and made us feel right at home. We rented the entire house from Saturday afternoon until late Sandy morning. Renting the entire house allowed us to spend quality time with family with no worries. A total of 12 chose to spend the night, but even those that didn't stay lingered late into the night sitting on the porch, around the campfire, visiting and quilting in the Parlor. Margaret & Joey I would recommend Prairie Creek Inn Bed and Breakfast without hesitation.

What a great time we had at this romantic estate. The accommodations were excellent and the amenities were boundless. We had a great time looking through the home and the quiet walks on the trails we pleasant. Our favorite part was enjoying the tree swing during the evening. The breakfast was wonderful as well.

The history of the home is interesting. Their hard work has paid off. It looks great; very homey. I love the claw-foot tubs, baby grand piano, the big movie screen and more! We walked the trails, relaxed in the spa tub, enjoyed talking to Bruce, etc.! Lovely, lovely, time! I've already recommended this B&B to others!!

Stayed at the Inn on a cross-country trip with my son. Great communications beforehand (I booked 4 months ahead, to ensure availability -- I seem to have been overly cautious, as we went mid-week and we were the only ones there). We arrived late, and the owners kindly waited for us till past 10PM! Since we were the only guests, the owners gave us the choice of two very nice rooms at no extra cost. The house was very clean and nice. We slept very well -- the beds were comfortable and there was no noise. In the morning, the owners made an extremely tasty and fresh breakfast, with french toast and loads of bacon. In addition, they served plenty of fresh fruit and a wide selection of beverages. Before we left, the owners gave a tour of the property (very big) and allowed my son to drive their ATV on a closed circuit. In sum, a wonderful stay -- when we go again to the Lincoln area, we'll be back. Meanwhile, we strongly recommend the Inn to anyone who wants quality accommodations, quiet and beauty (at a reasonable price to boot!)

Bruce and Maureen were fantastic hosts. Even though my wife and I arrived later than we expected, they still went out of their way and made time to give us a tour of their beautiful bed & breakfast and to make us feel right at home. My wife and I really needed a relaxing getaway and this was perfect! The passion that Bruce and Muareen have for their bed & breakfast is amazing and their story behind the inn is inspiring. We really enjoyed our stay - only wish it could have been longer. Thanks so much Bruce & Maureen - we will be back!!!

What a lovely place to stay! The house is beautiful and the room was comfortable. We walked to the lake and back, enjoying the evening. The Stahr's were so gracious and made our stay so enjoyable. We highly recommend this B&B.

We basically had the whole house for 2 nights over Thanksgiving 11/10. Maureen & Bruce where so accommodating and such gracious hosts! We catered our own dinner, took over the kitchen and felt completely at home. the rooms are charming and comfortable. The grounds surrounding the property are beautiful too. I've always wanted to live on a farm and this weekend I got to! It was great! Great place for family get togethers!

Bruce and Maureen were WONDERFUL hosts. They made the whole trip outstanding for us. They were so nice and took a lot of time with us. The breakfast was outstanding. There was SO much food and it was great!!! We are definetly planning to go back when it's spring so we can explore all of the property. The house was very inviting and we enjoyed our stay. The Prairie View room had a comfortable bed and the bathroom was awesome!

My wife and I made a last minute trip to Lincoln to viist and elderly aunt. Bruce and Maureen were very helpful with our evening arrival. At breakfast the 'eggs goldenrod' were great, I had never had them before. Bruce shared the history of the house and we really enjoyed talking about western Nebraska.

The atmosphere was warm and charming, just like the Inn keepers. There is a lot of attention to details, and they are very pleasant and accomodating. I have gluten sensitivities and food allergies, and they went out of their way to make my breakfast enjoyable. It is a very nice family atmosphere along with utmost professionalism. It's a very peaceful country atmosphere, not far from Lincoln.

I have to say, I really can't understand the objections of "Very Disappointed". For the record, I have not been paid or coerced to give a positive review. My wife and I found a vacancy at this B&B last minute--the day before our stay here, and for a very reasonable price. We stayed in the "Prairie View" room, with the private bathroom which includes a deep whirlpool jacuzzi (my only criticism of the entire inn is that the jacuzzi is cozy for 2). The owners, Bruce and Maureen, greeted us the evening of our arrival, to a wonderful-smelling wood burning fire and a warm (78 degrees) home. We were free to leave in the evening for dinner in nearby Lincoln and return at 11PM with ease. We met the other 2 guests the following morning, and enjoyed breakfast--made delightful for the fact everything, including the cranberry juice and whole-grain cinnamon rolls, were handmade by them from scratch--over a rollicking conversation with coffee and peppermint tea. We stayed in February, so the trees were still a bit sparse, but the countryside feel of staying in a farmhouse was charming. As stated by other guests, the history of this home is colorful, really revealing the dedication the owners have to their vision of a countryside B&B. It's a wonderful getaway, and we're enthusiastically planning our return visit in the fall. If you want Howard Johnson's, then STAY at Howard Johson's; this B&B is for those who want to escape the Big City and still feel pampered.

The people that run this B&B are extremely caring. In our families time of need they provided us with a place to stay for two nights. Our son was diagnosed with a Malignant brain tumor. He lives in Lincoln Nebraska, but we could not stay at his home. Our family stayed at the Prairie Creek B&B where he could come to visit us for a short time. This was over the New Years holiday, so our family could also visit with and enjoy each other. The atmosphere and furniture is just like the brochure shows, It is just beautiful and appropriate for the time. The house was lived in years ago. We enjoy the video of moving the building from in Lincoln Ne to 2400 S 148 ST, Walton Ne. Thanks to a wonderful family for their love & care. Mr & Mrs Lyle Gee Palmer Ne.

The story of Prairie Creek Inn is astounding to say the least. The vision and passion to create an incredible experience for couples, families or friends is evident.

My husband and I were looking forward to a romantic get-away. We did not find it here. The website says "family" atmosphere. Although there were no children, we felt like we were staying with relatives (and not in a good way). There is a communal fireplace, communal bathrooms and no whirpool that I could find. Had a bubble bath in clawfoot bathtub with tepid water. No heat in the bathroom. The Innkeepers greeted us when we arrived and promptly left right after to attend a personal function. Thank goodness we had no needs while they were gone. They did not give us a key to our room, so we couldn't leave to do anything without leaving the entire place open (no one else was there at the time). The room was cramped with a bathroom down the hall. We had to share it with another couple. We had to take our towels into the bathroom with us. The walls were paper-thin and we felt we had to whisper not to disturb the other tenants although the tenants below us didn't seem to care. Our room was basically in the attic and did not look as spacious as the picture would lead you to believe. The next morning we were expected to be ready for breakfast at 8am. The Innkeepers had another function to attend. We ate "family-style" and everyone passed around the plates. By the time the plate came to us, most of the food had been picked over. We had to practically guilt some of the tenants to move one seat down so my husband and I could sit together. The food was OK, nothing spectacular. More what I would expect in a hotel, not a bed and breakfast. Didn't even stay to get a shower. Drove home and showered. Couldn't wait to leave.

We attempted to contact this couple within a few hours of their review post, apologizing for their experience, & tried to make things right. They have chosen not to respond, so I will carefully try to here. The couple changed their reservation at the last minute, thereby filling our facility, except for the Prairie View room. We were not planning for them this night, but welcomed their request. We had a very difficult decision to make for the evening & morning: a dear family friend of 30 years died (she babysat our 3 sons as infants). We were asked to be at the Friday pm viewing and to sing at the 10 am funeral Saturday. After checking in the couple, we told them of the conflicts, apologized for having to leave, gave them my cell number, and told them we'd be back in good time. There was no comment of concern from the couple at any time during their stay. Some of our guests were in town for the funeral. It was a challenge catering ½ to Valentine's sweethearts and ½ to grieving family, but we attempted to interact with all in a positive & helpful manner. Couple did not request a private bath or whirlpool tub. One was available. Each room & its amenities are posted on our website. The shared bath door is one step from their room. Water tests at 115-122 degrees in all 5 bathrooms. The house has two 75 gallon water heaters. Each bath has a ceiling electric heat fan with a switch next to the light switch. Our 2 Fireplaces are advertised as on site (in living rooms) but not in room. Each bedroom in the house is separated from others by a closet, hall, or bathroom, except for one 6' space, which has been fully insulated. All floors between sleeping levels are fully insulated. The couple's room is 15x18, less a 6x6 knee wall space, and has a cathedral ceiling of 11'. The couple arrived for breakfast more than 20 minutes after everyone else had started. The table was full, except for two spots; food was being passed for the second time.

My husband and I had the privilege of being guests at the Prairie Creek Inn B & B along with our families 2 summers ago. We were celebrating our 50th and spent three nights there. The house has been beautifully restored to its original state. The rooms are all large and well appointed. It is out in the country so we enjoyed the quietness and the fresh country air, some virgin prairie, hikes to the lake and more. However, it is only 15 minutes to downtown Lincoln and all the city has to offer. The breakfasts were well done by a caring hostess. We found our hosts to be warm loving people. Our family loved it out there and have all stated they would choose this Inn first among all others in the area. I would heartily recommend this Inn even if you just need a Retreat away from the city for a night or two. Fern Ewert

Bruce and Maureen run a wonderful business. I came in from Texas to see my Cornhuskers play at home for the first time ever, and they made my trip very memorable. Their service was incredible, and the house is something that is really unique. I am so glad that I did not stay at a big box hotel, because Prairie Creek was better than anything I could've possibly asked for. I highly recommend them and will be sure to go back if I am lucky enough to attend another home game.
