Oceanicus Blue Dreams

2nd floor, shared bath. Oceanicus Blue Dreams features a tip of the hat to Cornelius Vanderbilt and the great shipping fleets of the world he and the Vanderbilt family adored. As our mansion is only a short drive from the Vanderbilt Estate the influence is very strong. The, Biltmore, is still the largest private home in America and is now the most visited winery in America. We think this says a lot about where we live, in Western North Carolina. The desk has tons of tiny drawers and there are hidden items in each drawer to find and discover! Along the bulkheads are lighthouses and ships, spyglasses and shells, log books and scrolls of antique paper as well as shiny brass lanterns, cutlasses, iron handguns, knives and swords. We have been shocked by how many ladies want to stay in this room! DirecTV with 400 channels and music, FM/AM stereo player with CD/DVD. player.

  • Maximum Capacity: 3

Nature and Earth

A CERTIFIED PET FREE ROOM: 2nd floor, shared bathroom. Lanterns, interesting quartz rocks, a living hosta plant, glowing igneous rock, outdoor patio set, gem/rock and wood samples and rock-hewn tables await you along with green apples, eucalyptus and a huge scarf over roman window shades! This room was painted from the Biltmore Estate palette of licensed colors by Olympic Paints and specifically from Frederick Law Olmsteds outdoor natural palette from his planned gardens and forests at the Biltmore. DirecTV with 400 channels and music, DVD, CD, Stereo FM/AM player.

Who knew Grover, NC would be so much fun!

5 on October 29, 2014

We had a wonderful time at this Inn. The breakfasts were wonderful, our bed was super comfy, and the room was full of fun historical items. The host is an amazing historian. We also enjoyed the cooking class. We learned quite a bit.

Great History!

4.6 on October 22, 2014

The Inn of the Patriots was a great historical experience. The Baby Ruth room allowed us to experience what it might be like to have lived in the past. The memorabilia was awesome. Marty and Stormy made us feel at home and allowed us to share parts of their lives. I really enjoyed the cooking class and the pizza we cooked was the best I've ever had. I would return and will stay longer...next time. It was a pleasure meeting them and sharing Philly stories with Marty.

Innkeeper Response
Thank you so much for your love, like so many thousands, of the class and food while here. We have so many Chefs that come here also from around the world - it was a true honor to serve you!

Pleasant Stay

Had a very nice stay at the Patriots Inn.

Innkeeper Response
A blessing to you and safe travels!

Good time

4.6 on October 19, 2014

The cooking class gave us tons of new ideas and it was interesting learning all the presidential fun facts. Kim was soo sweet and the rooms were comfy. We totally recommend the Baker Buffalo Winery, the wine was FABULOUS and the owners were I nice. Thanks for a weekend away!

Innkeeper Response
Bless you for you love and pride in the culinary institute, how fun it is! We were pleased with the satisfaction you and so many others have overwhelmingly stated about the comfy rooms!

Not worth visiting again.

Marti is definitely a master of self-promotion. I'm just not sure that what is delivered by his cooking class, food, or inn meets the expectations set by his high claims. The inn itself is very cluttered, and I was extremely turned off to be greeted at the doorway by a decrepit gingerbread house that has clearly seen better days. At first I thought our bathroom situation was less than stellar with a shower stuffed in a closet and a toilet in another closet, but then I learned that two sets of guests were sharing a bathroom upstairs with the owner and his family. I guess mine wasn't that bad after all. The food was decent but not remarkable, and Chef Marti didn't actually cook breakfast for us either morning. So if you are excited to eat food prepared by a White House Chef, this may not be the place for you.

Innkeeper Response
We were sorry to have not met your expectations and are happy to offer you another stay on the house, complimentary for you friends! We do publicly advertise that a B&B such as ours has small bathrooms built into each room of our 1879 mansion and that we are not trying to replicate the Hyatt or Hilton (where the pricing in Charlotte for such is 300 to 400 per night). I did cook in our kitchens each day and also each night while you were out, making homemade catsup and syrups from scratch. I realize that you were out eating so were unable to monitor my activities or film me in the kitchen. But, then again, we do promote all four of our chefs here and are very proud of them and our TV series. Like Emeril Lagasse who owns 12 restaurants across the USA - he is not cooking in each of them every single night. We welcome you back at any time with our love and care for you - on behalf of Chef Johnsie, Chef Kim, Chef Stormy and Chef Marti

We visited the King's Mountain battlefield and the Cowpens Battlefield which we found very interesting.

Innkeeper Response
We loved speaking with you about your trips to each of the famous revolutionary war sites here!

A nice place to stay and get great food, service and a history lesson all in a fun way. The luncheon cooking class was great with lots of hands on and a great presentation. Marti and his crew do a fantastic job overall. Give it a try!!

Innkeeper Response
How amazing it is to see your comments written like so many thousands that have graduated from Marti's classes with all of our chefs! Thank you. Chef Stormy

Relaxing, fun weekend

4.6 on October 02, 2014

Plan in advance because they are probably booked - and for good reason! We arrived on Friday afternoon and had a chance to look around by ourselves (we received an email stating that Marti and Stormy would be out shopping and to let ourselves in). The decor is great for those interested in history. We went out to one of the recommended restaurants in Shelby (Ni Fen Bistro) planning on having a glass of wine and an appetizer but ended up having a great dinner after hearing about the specials. At breakfast the next morning there were 5 couples who were total strangers. Just by asking the question "How did everyone sleep?" started a conversation that put all at ease and got us all acquainted. The tour of the museum, which consists of several cases of memorabilia throughout the house, was very interesting and entertaining. Marti is an excellent tour guide having lived much of the history showcased. Take advantage of the wine tasting at Baker Buffalo Creek. And don't miss one of the cooking classes. We took the lunch class on Sunday morning and learned how to make pizza from scratch (much easier than you may think and WAY better than anything you'll get from carryout) and a great greek salad. Marti, Stormy and Johnsie are great hosts. We hope to return soon.

Innkeeper Response
How nice it is, truly, of you to mention Chefs Stormy and Johnsie! They are quite skilled at cookery and really do an excellent job. Chef Johnsie Adams even beat Paula Dean in the Champion Grits Throwdown at Cherokee Casino!

Wonderful Roadtrip Destination

5 on October 01, 2014

The Inn of the Patriots is a wonderful road trip destination. Not only is the area steeped in history, it offers a myriad of activities to suit anyone's tastes. The Inn is a treasure in itself and Marty makes history come alive when he conducts his tour of the property. Two days was not near enough time to fully enjoy everything!

Innkeeper Response
It is wonderful to hear what we are told so many times, "two days is not enough!" Thank you for supporting America's disabled and injured veterans returning from the wars and opening new businesses. We are just trying to do a good job. Thank you.

Signature Dish

Werner's Strammer Max
A great Chef friend of mine from Austria taught me how to make this dish from Salzburg - the famed Strammer Max of bread on a buttered skillet, Black Forest Ham, Swiss Cheeses and two eggs over easy on top! We continue to serve it and honor Werner from a town where the Sound of Music was filmed, Salzburg, Austria - a town I enjoyed visiting. We have also begun to serve the famous Cleveland Club sandwich made famous in Cleveland County, NC by my chef wife, Stormy and I.
