Oceanicus Blue Dreams

2nd floor, shared bath. Oceanicus Blue Dreams features a tip of the hat to Cornelius Vanderbilt and the great shipping fleets of the world he and the Vanderbilt family adored. As our mansion is only a short drive from the Vanderbilt Estate the influence is very strong. The desk has tons of tiny drawers and there are hidden items in each drawer to find and discover! Along the bulkheads are lighthouses and ships, spyglasses and shells, log books and scrolls of antique paper as well as shiny brass lanterns, cutlasses, iron handguns, knives and swords. We have been shocked by how many ladies want to stay in this room! DirecTV with 400 channels and music, FM/AM stereo player with CD/DVD. player.

Wonderful Roadtrip Destination

5 on October 01, 2014

The Inn of the Patriots is a wonderful road trip destination. Not only is the area steeped in history, it offers a myriad of activities to suit anyone's tastes. The Inn is a treasure in itself and Marty makes history come alive when he conducts his tour of the property. Two days was not near enough time to fully enjoy everything!

Charming Historic Bed and Breakfast

4.4 on September 17, 2014

Marty and Stormy are wonderful hosts. The rooms and public spaces are beautifully decorated with a mixture of antiques and modern furniture resulting in serene and restfully atmosphere. There are collections of White House and Revolutionary War memorabilia to entertain you as well as books and DVDs. The front porch has rocking chairs that look out on a quiet neighborhood of historic houses. It was the peaceful retreat we were looking for when we booked our vacation. The best part was having breakfast cooked each day by a world class chef! The food was outstanding! We thoroughly enjoyed The Inn of the Patriots.

The Great Escape!

4.8 on September 07, 2014

There are not enough adjectives to use to rate our stay at the Inn of the Patriots, but we will try to use a few to describe it. Our stay was restful, wonderful, educational and entertaining to say the least. We received a wonderful tour through the museum that was insightful and eye opening to some of the history of North Carolina as well as some wonderful antidotes about Marti's time at the White House. The breakfast each morning was impeccable with food fresh from his garden as well as local vendors. The cooking class was marvelous. Who knew that one could make fresh dough for pizza in eight minutes or less as well as have it being quite tasty too. We had such an enjoyable time and got to do the one thing that we wanted to do more than anything which was relax. We would definitely recommend the Inn of the Patriots for an insightful, entertaining, restful and eye opening time.

White House culinary history and good food!

4.6 on September 07, 2014

Marti is a gifted storyteller of local history and history of presidential menus...stories he shares during the cooking class and house tour. A stay at the eclectic Inn of the Patriots is both restful and entertaining. The cooking class is fun for cooks and non-cooks with lots of helpful and healthy instructions. The breakfast included local farm foods and of course one White House dish complete with story. While you are in the area be sure to also visit downtown Shelby and Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in nearby Gastonia. There are several good wineries inn the area. Ask Marti for directions and advice.

Awesome Inn

'Getway Night at B&B

2.4 on August 24, 2014

The Enn could be a real gem but contains far too much clutter. The owners need to decide if they are running a B&B or a museum. Every inch of the main area and rooms contain far too many collected keepsakes from his career. Even the dinning table was cluttered with keepsakes and non essential items. Parking was in rear with path to back door. Wrong! - no answer. Had to go around to front door ( which was plastered with so many stickers and signs to looked like a cheap hotel. Entry foyer, once we were finally let in, was same way. The Breakfast was a real disappointment since we figured since he was a chief we would have an exceptional breakfast. Wrong!! The breakfast was disorganized and what I would have expected from a basic Cafe. Coffee was in carafes on table with no service. Girl brought out a bowl of grits by then selves. Guests asked what else are we getting and the answer was " I don't know". About 5 min later a bowl of bacon was brought out by its self and then a bowl of cereal a few min later and again we were left wondering if this was all there was. Finally a plate of toast and later a breakfast skillet was brought. We had to ask for jam and butter..We never saw the chief until after all this. The taste and presentation of what was brought was what I would expect from a cafe - no more. After breakfast the owner/chief made a history presentation and explained a lot of his career and collections and was very interesting; but, until they get their act together on breakfast and clutter I cannot recommend to anyone.

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for your kindness about our colonial breakfast and award winning museum and B&B. We were happy to hear that you enjoyed our homemade sausage and handmade syrups from the fruits all over the area with farms and more. We do advertise that we are an eclectic collection of items to see all over our home and the vast majority of international awards have led tens of thousands to adore it. We realize that you may prefer something else and enjoy minimalism, or a Zen lifestyle and respect your desires. Thank you for enjoying with us and visiting our disabled & injured US military veterans small business.

Marti makes cooking fun...

3.6 on August 23, 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed the cooking classes, they were casual, stress-free and informative. Inn is unique and charming, although would have liked a private bath. Come and go as you please, view the interesting memorabilia, or sit just on the porch and read a good book.

Innkeeper Response
We had so much fun in the class! Thank you for enjoying with us and visiting our disabled & injured US military veterans small business!

Signature Dish

Werner's Strammer Max
A great Chef friend of mine from Austria taught me how to make this dish from Salzburg - the famed Strammer Max of bread on a buttered skillet, Black Forest Ham, Swiss Cheeses and two eggs over easy on top! We continue to serve it and honor Werner from a town where the Sound of Music was filmed, Salzburg, Austria - a town I enjoyed visiting. We have also begun to serve the famous Cleveland Club sandwich made famous in Cleveland County, NC by my chef wife, Stormy and I.
