Tucked away in historic, beautiful downtown Elizabeth City, our North Carolina bed and breakfast, the Culpepper Inn, is just one-hour drive from Norfolk International Airport, Virginia Beach, VA oceanfront, and the Outer Banks resort areas of eastern North Carolina. This three-story brick Georgian Revival style manor was built by William and Alice Culpepper in 1935 and is situated in the center of the historic district of Elizabeth City, NC. The Inn is only six blocks from the center of town and the harbor front on the Pasquotank River. The Inn features eleven guest rooms - four in the Main House, one suite in the Carriage House, and six in the Camellia Guest House. All of our guest rooms feature a private bath. The Inn is surrounded by lush grounds with beautiful old live oak and magnolia trees, and the property is accented by over 20 different camellia trees and bushes. The Tavern Room, in-ground pool and the rockers on the porch, as well as the fairy garden with a water feature invite our guests to linger and relax during their stay. This atmosphere can be a welcome change from typical hotel accommodations.

The Culpepper Inn is a very charming place for a weekend getaway. The Lavender Room was comfy and cozy with a bed that slept really well. The hostess was able to give us wonderful recommendations on things to do in Elizabeth City since our original plans were cancelled due to the rain. We will definitely vistit the bed and breakfast again.

As a family of 4 with 2 kids under 7 we are perhaps not the traditional bed and breakfast crowd, but at the Culpepper Inn we were pleased to find that families can enjoy the charm of a B&B! While some parts of the inn were off-limits to our little ones, we never felt shunned. There is plenty of peaceful, open space here and I can imagine this being a perfect spot to meet up with old friends for a few days. We stayed in the Carriage House, which had more than enough room for our family. Beware--the food here is a amazing! We were welcomed with pastries and tea, and breakfast was flavorful, fresh, and hearty! Southern hospitality and comfort at their best!
