Situated on the highest promontory overlooking the mighty Mississippi River south of St. Louis, The Briars, circa 1812, is one of the finest examples of early southern plantation-style architecture. It is renowned historically as the residence where Jefferson Davis married Varina Howell in 1845. When our guests drive through the gates of The Briars, they enter a world touched with the magic, peace and beauty of Camelot, but with the amenities of the Twenty-first Century. In Oct 2012, The Briar's hosted my wedding! It was everything I could have asked for! Kristy and Leon were very helpful when it came to my needs of making sure my day was perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful and went way out of their way to show that they were there to serve. I would not have changed one thing about my wedding! The view was absolutely amazing! The rooms were very homely and comfortable! Breakfast was great, especially if you want that southern style breakfast!

When we arrived at the Briars we were told there would not be a breakfast served the following morning as it was Thanksgiving. We were given some muffins to eat instead. At 9:30 pm we discovered the bed was broken. The box springs were half on the floor because the wooden slats supporting them were out of the grooves. We called the emergency number and were told that the bed had been broken. We were given a different room, The Gardenview, in a different building on the property. The Gardenview has no thermostat. It is located in the adjacent room, the Riverview, so you are at the mercy of your fellow guests as to what temperature the Gardenview room will be! Breakfast was basic, coffee, eggs, bacon, grits, and a biscuit. It was the same both mornings. They were out of orange juice. On our last night, we were awakened at 10:30pm by a doorbell ringing. It was a couple who checked in late so management left them a note and a key for their room. It just so happened to be our room! Mr. Leon, the owner has his cell phone on his card. I tried calling several times and text messaging but no answer. Rendy, an office worker called and was extremely rude to me! She offered us a discount. She also insinuated that I was lying about everything! To this day I have not heard back from Mr. Leon Atkins about our stay.

If you want the beautiful grounds and incredible views of the MS River, I would highly recommend the Briars! My wife and I make an annual trip to Natchez and this was the nicest accomodations and B&B that we've stayed in yet. The Garden Vue room was huge, updated, with a great view, and even had our own large private balcony. The breakfast was a good Southern breakfast, nothing mind-blowing, but still very good. The only concern with our room was that it was located by the large dining area where there was a dinner on one of the nights, but even that wasn't bad. If you love Natchez, you'll love the Briars!!!

5 out of 5Beyond our expectations!
May 29, 2012
My familyand I had an opportunity to stay at The Briars over Memorial Day and will definately go back for a special occasion! The view was magnificent...our room overlooked the Mississippi River, and the lights from the bridges were beautiful. All of the staff was very helpful and kind. The breakfast was delicious Southern food! The location, minutes from downtown, was great for us and our sightseeing. What a great experience - thanks so much!
5 out of 5Our Anniversary
May 14, 2012
My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary and wanted to do something really special. We decided to have dinner at The Briars in Natchez and stay overnight. We stayed in the River Vue room where you can lay in bed and watch the riverboarts travel up and down the river. After dark the view of the Bridge with all the lights is breathtaking! We couldn't have been more pleased. The Restaurant also has a beautiful view of the Mississippi River and we were there at sunset? Beautiful!! The Chef prepared a delicious meal for us and the service offered a hometown style that we've found nowhere else. We will definatley stay again!
5 out of 5Wonderful Weekend in Natchez!
May 11, 2012
Just spent a wonderful weekend in Natchez attending my 50th high school class reunion and stayed at The Briars. We stayed in the Old School House and it was beautiful, spacious and so inviting. The history that was provided in the room really made our stay more special...knowing what the building had been used for and how long it had been on the estate. The service at the registration desk was welcoming and helpful. The cleaning staff were great and helped us get all our luggage to our room. And when we inquired about where we might get some ice, she delivered two buckets to our room. The breakfast served each morning was delicious and the kitchen and dining staff were so friendly. But probably what I enjoyed most was the beautiful views and the peace and quietness of the grounds. I would highly recommend a stay at The Briars and I hope to return for many more visits in the future.
