Stone House Musicale Bed and Breakfast
-
This rosewood half-tester bed is featured in the Master Bedroom of the J.N. Stone House, Natchez Bed and Breakfast, along with a twin spool bed and a rosewood 'lit du coin' in the opposite corner, plus numerous other antiques and a private bath.
The Joseph Newman Stone House pictured in 1881 with the Stone family and domestic help. Standing behind the white horse is J. N. Stone (1838-1886), who bought the house in 1877 from the David Stanton family. The house is now owned by his great-grandson, Joseph Britton Stone, who has operated it as a bed and breakfast since 2003.
Stone House as it appears today with the early Billiard Hall columns visible at the left rear corner of the house. Among the smallest bed and breakfasts in Natchez, this Greek revival gem is unique for its complimentary live piano music, antique billiard table, and rare maps gallery.
Master Bedroom with 13-foot ceiling of the luxurious Stone House Bed and Breakfast of Natchez as seen when standing in the entrance. Includes private bath, an 11-foot tall rosewood tester bed, two twin beds, and numerous other antique furnishings.
A view from the rear gallery of Stone House shows the side of the Cottage with a side deck and the Cottage front porch at far right. From the Cottage front bedroom guests have a view of this rear courtyard.
A substantial hot breakfast is served on this antique Limoges china in the main house dining room, furnished with antiques and ancestral portraits.
A view from the private off-street parking behind Stone House of the Cottage at left, showing the side deck and entry, and the main house rear gallery at right.
Your host at J. N. Stone House Musicale B&B in Natchez is a conservatory trained musician who offers live classical piano entertainment to the guests.
Stone House guests are treated to a tour of the home which includes the Antebellum Billiard Hall, the oldest original part of this home which was incorporated into the house in the 1860's. Featured in this room are an antique Brunswick billiard table, and an antique rosewood square grand piano.
The front bedroom of the Cottage at J. N. Stone House Musicale B&B features this double size antique spool bed along with numerous other antique furnishings.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Mr. Stone! The hospitality was excellent. Breakfast was wonderful, served with good hot coffee ( a must for me!) and a delightful menu both well presented and served in manner that created a sense of warmth and style. The late afternoon music performance was not only well performed but carefully planned to please those with musical background and those less so. We highly recommend the Stone House. My son stayed at this B&B last August and recommended it to us. We decided to take a day trip up to Natchez to visit. Although we had seen reviews and had a personal recommendation, our expectations for the visit were absolutely exceeded. The house was beautifully restored with lots of antiques and art. The breakfast was excellent. We aren't very knowledgeable about classical music. But, the music program was both beautiful and amazing - We felt like we had spent an hour in a music appreciation course only with wine and good company. After breakfast Joe gave us a wonderful tour complete with the history of the house and his family. His collection of historical maps is also unique and is worth the trip. We highly recommend this B&B - We plan to return soon and bring friends.

We wanted to go to Natchez, Mississippi for the Spring Pilgrimage to see the lovely antebellum homes and experience the laid back pace of the sunny, south. Of course, we wanted to stay in a Bed and Breakfast in one of the homes to get a real feel for the way of life in the Civil War era. The Stone House was our selection and we were not disappointed. The place was immaculate with a veranda for sipping wine and cool drinks. From the small cottage behind the home with two bedrooms and a bath, to the huge master bedroom with a four poster bed and a bath, it was southern living at its best. A delicious breakfast is served at a table for 8 on Limoges china each morning. The innkeeper, Joe Stone is a direct descendent of the original Stones and the house is packed with history. Joe entertained us with story after story. Joe is not only a wonderful historian and host; he is a classically trained pianist who performed a wonderful classical music program for us in the Stone House parlor on the baby grand piano! Another perk was the AMAZING collection of maps and botanicals Joe has amassed. From his collection, (of which most were for sale) he pulled out maps from the 1500s, Civil War maps, botanicals from the 1800s and the list goes on. We spent one afternoon searching thorough these and many more. We will be back!!!!

My friend and I drove down to Natchez for a long weekend to help my sister move. We stayed in the cottage behind the house. For us, it was perfect. We could come and go as we pleased without interrupting anyone in the house. Everything was exceptionally clean and comfortable. It was fun having our own piano and both a covered porch and an open deck to enjoy the mornings in the rain or the sun. I can't say enough about the cottage. One door opens into the piano room which flows into the first bedroom with a cathedral ceiling and beams bearing hand-forged nails from the 1800's. Another door opens into the same first bedroom which also connects to the second bedroom and full bath. There is plenty of storage; two large dressers and a very large armoire for hanging clothes. The hardwood floors throughout are beautiful. The cottage also has a small TV with cable but who needs a TV with all there is to see in Natchez. Joe Stone replaced the towels and emptied the trash daily. Each morning we had a very nice breakfast with fun conversations and every night at 6pm Joe played an amazing piano concert for any and all to attend. There is no pressure to come. It's certainly optional. We were only able to listen to all his pieces one night. We only heard the first two pieces one other night. He's not offended if you come and go. If Joe Stone can put up with us, he can put up with anyone. Thanks Joe for the fun weekend. John & David from Oklahoma

5 out of 5Encore!
January 09, 2012
What a magical night! Two friends and myself stayed at the Stone House this past weekend. Sharing a bottle of wine while listening to Joseph play the Mephisto Waltz was truly an amazing experience. Imagine a private concert for you and two close friends by an artist who’s played Carnegie Hall. We didn’t want the concert to end and Joseph kindly obliged with an encore. The concert (which lasts about 45 minutes) is included with the reservation. Joseph told us he likes to start the concert sometime between 5 and 7pm but he’s flexible. There are only two guest suites in the house. I slept in the comfortable cottage in the backyard which has two bedrooms and a shared bath. The Master bedroom in the main house has incredible antique furniture, lofty ceilings, a queen bed and a few single beds all in the same room, and its own bathroom. I’d recommend choosing the Master if it’s available. We were thinking about all sharing the cottage but when we saw the low prices we decided to rent both. It really is an amazing deal for what’s included…you’ll pay more for bland two star hotels. We could tell Joseph truly loves what he’s doing. If you like music or antiques or ancient maps or a taste of the antebellum life, check out the Stone House! Also…we met some very friendly locals at the delicious Malt Shop (walking distance) and ate a gourmet reasonable priced meal at the Castle on Joseph’s recommendation.

Joseph was the perfect host. He was there if needed, but very respectful of our personal space. He was a wonderful resource on both Natchez and the history of his own home with its beautiful artifacts. Breakfast was excellent. We felt as though we were dining in the 19th century with an ambiance skillfully created for our enjoyment. Our spacious room could not have been better. Historic Natchez began right at Stone House and continued right outside our doorstep. Many of the historic homes and places we wished to visit were just blocks away. We were able to leave our car at Stone House and walk to nearly everything.

When you book at the Stone House you expect and receive beautiful accommodations in a historic home. What you don't know is that you are also getting two museums -- historic maps and Native American weavings/rugs -- a private show by a concert pianist, and absolutely gourmet meals. I stayed in the cottage for three nights and can't wait to get back!
