The B&B sits high on the quiet Sawtooth Mountain ridgeline, 1,000 feet above Lake Superior's scenic North Shore. You will enjoy a magnificent overlook of Lake Superior, the Devil Track River Valley and forest of aspen, pine and birch. For a quiet romantic escape, a few days exploring the many miles of trails, or a little of both, the dense birch / aspen forest and spectacular views provide the perfect backdrop. Before staying here, I was a B&B skeptic, always fearing they'd be fussy. Not this place. I've stayed here 3 times, and will stay here again. The location is ideal (right on Pincushion Mt. x-country ski/hiking trails, minutes to town, and on the Gunflint trail). The breakfasts are fabulous, filling and healthy (ask for the kolachy and eggs benedict). The hosts helpful, but not hovering. The setting is secluded enough to guarantee good wildlife watching. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Truly, a home away from home.

We stayed here for two nights to visit the Grand Marais area and some skiing. It was great to see the big lake from above while having the secluded feeling of the woods. We enjoyed some lively conversation with our hosts and the delicisious breakfasts. We would stay here again.

Far enough from Grand Marais for lots of tranquility and beautiful views, but close enough to make a quick trip to town. The hospitality is warm and genuine, and the breakfasts are delicious. Cross country ski trails are right out the back door! I've stayed here a few times, and will return.

Directions to Pincushion Bed and Breakfast from South: Continue on Hwy 61 through the only stoplight in Grand Marais and continue (east) past stoplight about 1/2 mile to the first left intersection 300 feet past the Chevy Car Dealer. You'll see signs for Gunflint Trail, Resorts and County Road 12. Turn left (north). This portion of the new road (Fall 2004) is a realignment of the first mile of the Gunflint Trail (Co. Rd 12). Follow this new road to nearly a thousand feet in elevation gain for about 3 miles (2.8 mi to be exact). Look for our mailbox 968 Gunflint Trail near the top of the hill (one mile past the Pincushion Mountain Area signs). Turn right (east) on driveway and continue 1800 feet (.2 mi) to the B & B.
