My husband and I come to Monmouth at least once a year. We love the service, the rooms and the romantic atmosphere of the grounds. Wouldn't think of going anywhere else!!!

The grounds of this Bed and Breakfast are just beautiful! The staff his very nice, breakfast was wonderful in the garden room. My biggest problem was room 23 in the Main House, it was not worth the price they charged! It was old and musty smelling not did not feel clean other than the bathroom. Also, there was a wedding going on the weekend we were there, which was never mentioned to us when making our reservation which it should be! I will not stay there again!

    Great except the food

We made our reservation through BedandBreakfast.com but we did not receive a reservation confirmation from either Monmouth or BedandBreakfast.com. As the time for our stay grew closer, we called Monmouth directly to verify that we had a room and were told that we did not have a reservation. They did still have some rooms available but at a much higher price. Since we could not change our plans, we had to accept the room at a higher rate. The grounds were beautiful and the service and atmosphere were everything we had hoped for. The five-course dinner was a disappointment. The food was fairly good but was not what was advertised on the menu or what the waiter told us we could expect. There was one waiter for 12 guests. The portions were extremely small and it took 2 1/2 hours for service. Breakfast was okay, but certainly nothing special. Our room was beautiful but not well-maintained. The ventilation in the bathroom was non-functional. There were very few lights and one did not even have a bulb. Also, for the price we paid, I would have expected the room to have been cleaned better.

We would recomment Monmouth Plantation to anyone. The service and attention to detail was impeccable. It was the best place we have ever stayed at - a true southern jewel.
