Shadowlawn Bed & Breakfast

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Shadowlawn and have been back several times in the seven months we have been married! It is our paradise, our little slice of Heaven where we are treated like royalty; or better still, like family. Burnette is amazing and always has been so good to us. The accommodations are wonderful, the atmosphere is serene and relaxing, and the gourmet breakfast is to die for!!!! Shadowlawn has quickly become "our special place" where we will return often for years to come!

We decided to do a small wedding and found out about Burnette and Shadowlawn through some friends that also got married there. This was the best decision we ever made. Burnette was able to customize our wedding down to the smallest details. She planned and did everything herself: decorations, flowers, catering, cake, and directed the wedding. Although we were glad that everything was taken care of through a single point of contact, we were worried about how the quality of the different things was going to be since it's very difficult for a single person to be an expert on all these areas. Boy where we wrong! Burnette was amazing! She is so talented! The decorations were beautiful, the flowers were amazing, the food was outstanding and the cake was delicious. And she did it all by herself (and with the help of her daughter Liz). The wedding turned out great and all the guests were impressed on how beautiful everything was. Having a night stay included in the price was great because we were able to enjoy the beauty and charm of staying at a B&B on our wedding event. Not only did we have a great wedding, but we also became like family with Burnette. We would definitely recommend the Shadowlawn experience to anyone visiting the Columbus, MS area.

I was very nervous about my second wedding. Although my future husband and I had already had the large church wedding we still wanted to have an intimate wedding with our closes family and friends. After visiting several possible locations we selected Shadowlawn. It was the perfect decision. Burnette and her family made us feel as if though we were the most important people in the world. Burnette worked endlessly to make sure everything was perfect. We met with her for only a couple of hours and selected flowers, food, and all the finishing touches we wanted. We arrived the evening before and Burnette walked us through everything. My daugters and I stayed the night and the guys stayed at a different location. After a fabulous night sleep we joined each other for a delicious breakfast. I wanted a morning wedding with a brunch reception. Even though it was a holiday weekend, Burnette made it happen. Thirty guest arrived for our family wedding and a short time later we were in the garden have the reception of my dreams. The "Shrimp and Grits" are to die for. This dish is a must have. All dishes were wonderful, the setting was beautiful and my flowers were perfect. I think it is important that a second wedding is even more special than the first. The blending of families and the celebration should be perfect. If you are busy but still want to have a special day; even in your 40s and 50s, call Burnette. You won't be disappointed and all you have to do is show up, enjoy, and then stay the night in a wonderful bedroom. Finding her, her family, and her home was truly a blessing. Thank you Burnette. We recently had a chance to stay Shadowlawn where you clearly understand the difference of staying at a hotel and being graciously invited into Burnette’s home. As a consultant I have stayed all over the world and there is no comparison to the feeling that warm and caring person, like Burnette, means to someone where genuine hospitality is experienced even compared to a nicest hotels. It was truly a blessing to be welcomed into her home and she extended that same welcome to my son , who has just started his pilot training at the Columbus Air Force Base, to join us for a family breakfast. This may seem like a little thing but that is what their bed and breakfast is all about. I watched Burnette as she talked and helped everyone staying their and you could see that she did not just have guests but instead she see the world as a place where everyone is part of her family. What a treat! An unexpected gem in historic Downtown Columbus! This place is gorgeous, welcoming, comforting and most of all enjoyable! the room was comfortable and the bed was plush! What a perfect setting for the wedding rehearsal dinner! The food was excellent, the service was great, and Shadowlawn is beautiful! The entire experience was fantastic and everyone loved it!

Staying at this gorgeous Antebellum home really and truly made my stay in Columbus, Mississippi the best experience a little 'ol Californian could ask for. I stayed in the Victorian Suite and I NEVER wanted to leave my room! I had a beautiful view of the MUW campus and i really felt like i was stepping back in time. Burnette and NoNo, the owners, are some of the nicest folks you could ever meet and the breakfasts' were PHENOMENAL! All i have to say is Monte Cristo sandwhiches and Banana Fosters french toast! WOO HOO! I would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone desiring to get a taste of the true beauty of the south and the heart of Columbus, Mississippi.

The entire experience at this B&B made one feel like they were back in the old South. The rooms were wonderful with old South charm but modern bathrooms. The best part was the hospitality of the innkeeper. She had a weath of knowledge about the area and the items in her home. Each time we were out for dinner, she provided discount coupons for us to use. Then there was breakfast--bananna foster french toast--Paula Deen eat your heart out!!! It was wonderful. When was the last time you ate on china, with silver and crystal? I can not wait to return to Columbus for business so that I can stay here again.

We stayed at Shadowlawn for 2 nights. We enjoyed every minute of our visit. We loved the breakfasts and really enjoyed sitting on the veranda and relaxing. Burnette is a wonderful hostess.

I took my 12 year old daughter on a surprise weekend get-a-way to Shadowlawn. The expression on her face when she saw the gorgeous home we were staying in, with the big white columns and inviting porches, was priceless! It was our first stay at a B&B and it was a great experience for us both.....a weekend we'll never forget! We were awed by the beautiful antiques, dishes, and flower arrangements everywhere! Our room was perfect in every way, big and comfortable. We put puzzles together on the shiny hardwood floors and my daughter took a bubble bath in the jacuzzi tub in our bathroom. Everything was so lovely, and Burnette and NoNo made us feel like royalty! We enjoyed their company as much as the food at breakfast every morning. I was so pleased. I have shown my beautiful pictures of the B&B to everyone! It is definitely a place I want to return to with my family and friends in the future!

We enjoyed a beautiful experience at Shadowlawn. The antiques in the home are amazing. My rose arrangement was beautiful. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had a great night of sleep. The breakfast was outstanding, and I have been craving another fruit parfait ever since:-) Great coffee also. It was a great Valentine's Day for us! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would love to come again!

This was our first B&B experience and I could not imagine anything better! My wife and I are locals and chose Shadowlawn as a weekend getaway. The owners are excellent hosts and the breakfast was 5 stars all the way. I highly recommend this B&B. We will return!

My husband and I had the luxury of spending our wedding night at Shadowlawn. At first glance, this home is breathtaking. Its beauty is hardly believable. We arrived in the evening and the lighting was wonderful. Our room was large in size and had the most comfortable and amazing antique bed I have ever seen. The bathroom had a much needed jacuzzi tub and also had a shower large enough for two, which also featured two shower heads. Another bonus included in our stay which was surprising to me, was the mini fridge filled with snacks that were free for us to enjoy for the duration of our stay. We stayed on the night of December 27th, and when we woke up the next morning, there was wonderful calming music playing throughout the home. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and was almost too pretty to eat. Overall, my husband and I really enjoyed our stay and hope to return on our one year anniversary.

My husband is absolutely on my "A" list for surprising me with a very wonderful date night. He swept me away from work and took me to this delightful, elegant, breathtaking bed and breakfast at Shadowlawn. I was a little anxious at first staying in "someone elses home", but No No and Burnette made us feel so welcome that when we left the next morning it was like having spent the night with long time friends. Shadowlawn is breathtaking with it's beautiful architecture, and it sits perfectly next to the historical MUW. The home is filled from top to bottom with lovely antique furnishings. Breakfast also was delightful and delicious. My husband and I were so glad to have experienced our first bed and breakfast get away with Shadowlawn. We will definitely be back again and again to stay and visit in this beautiful home with our new friends.

I was searching for the perfect place to host an extraordinary bridal luncheon for my daughter's oldest and dearest friend. The wedding was scheduled two weeks before Christmas and I live 70 miles away. It was Divine Intervention that sent me to the front door of Shadowlawn. For me it was effortless entertaining and Burnette made it appear as though it was the most important affair she had ever undertaken. Her commitment to each detail and our satisfaction was her goal and she exceeded in every aspect of the event. BRAVO to Shadowlawn! I highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast for anyone who is looking for elegance with a personal touch and professional service that is often hard to find!

It is a lovely home with beautiful touches everywhere. It gave me so many ideas of how to display my old family treasures! Best of all, our hosts were so gracious and welcoming. We were literally guests in their home, not just customers. Wonderful Christian couple! The rooms are full of lovely antique furniture, the meals were beautifully prepared, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming.

Shadowlawn is a wonderful retreat in historic downtown Columbus. The rooms were very comfortable and the food was amazing. We live in Columbus and this is the perfect place for an overnight get-away!

We spent an evening, overnight, and morning at Shadowlawn for a MOPS retreat. It was such a wonderful experience. Both Mr. and Mrs. Avarkian were warm and friendly. The breakfast they served was delicious. I will definitely visit Shadowlawn again!

My daughter and I stayed at this lovely home while I attended my 30th High School Reunion. There are not enough good things to say about our wonderful hostess and her family. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome and was especially attentive to my daughter . She was the definition of Southern Hospitality for us. The room, atmosphere and breakfast were all perfect in every detail. I just can't recommend this Bed and Breakfast highly enough!

Shadow Lawn is THE Southern Hospitality experience that everyone should experience. Inside and out from the furniture, Caesar the B&B dog, to Burnette and No No we had an outstanding visit. The house and exquisite collection of period furniture is a walk through yesteryear only disturbed by the smell of coffee and a truly gourmet breakfast in the morning. We are very well traveled so "Outstanding" and "Exceeded" ratings are rare in our grade book. Excellent Bed and Breakfast!!

Our wedding was described by many of the guests as something out of a fairy tale. The immaculate inn is filled with beautiful antiques making you feel as if you have stepped into another era. The day would not have been nearly so wonderous were it not for the help of Burnette. Her knowledge, creativity and skill turned all our dreams into a lovely, amazing reality. The entire staff was wonderful! We highly recommend this inn and hope to spend each of our anniversaries there!

THE SHADOWLAWN HAD ALL THE GRACEFULNESS OF A SOUTHERN ANTEBELLUM HOME. THIS WAS OUR FIRST STAY IN A BED AND BREAKFAST AND WE COULD NOT HAVE PICKED A BETTER PLACE TO BEGIN OUR EXPERIENCE. THE ATMOSPHERE WAS SO COMFORTABLE AND FRIENDLY. THE HOME IS DECORATED WITH THE MOST EXQUISITE ANTIQUES I'VE EVER SEEN. WE HAD THE FREEDOM TO EXPLORE THE HOUSE AND ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL COLLECTION OF ANTIQUES THAT ARE DISPLAYED WITH TRAMENDOUS TASTE AND STYLE. THE BACK PORCH IS SURROUNDED WITH A BEAUTIFUL FLOWER GARDEN AND WE ENJOYED HAVING COFFEE ON THE PORCH AND DRIFT OFF WITH THOUGHTS OF LIVING DURING THAT ERA. THE BREAKFAST WAS PRESENTED SO ELEGANTLY AND WAS DELECUOUS. THE HOSTESS WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE OUR STAY PERFECT. My college friends and I stayed at Shadowlawn while we were attending our 30th College Reunion for Mississippi University for Women. We had a lovely stay. Shadowlawn is beautiful. When we were girls we always loved the house and to be allowed to stay there was a dream come true. Burnette and Lydia were lovely hostesses and saw to all of our needs. Breakfast was delicious and Burnette graciously shared her recipes with us. It was a wonderful weekend which was made more special by their hospitality! Can't wait to go back for another visit.

I highly recommend Shadowlawn! It is a beautifully grand home that takes you back to the pre civil war days. A bit like Gone with the Wind. You'll experience not only warm hospitality and great cooking, but you'll have a great night sleep in the comfy beds while surounded by a wonderful array of antiques in every room. And it is in a great location - perfect for business travellers, family, history buffs. My sisters and I spent a reunion weekend at Shadowlawn. What a treat! We look forward to doing it again.

I have stayed at several B & Bs around the country. This ranks amongst the best relative to the decor and charm of the house. The collection of antiques throughout the house along is worth the visit. The breakfast looked as good as it tasted, by far the best I've had. The proprietor not only displayed the best of Southern hospitality but she was a warm, friendly woman who repeated "you're here to be pampered" and proceeded to do so.

I was married in September 2007 and my Bridesmaids' Luncheon was held here the day before my wedding. Shadowlawn provided us with such a unique, memorable experience for this very special occasion. Elegance, attention to detail, and traditional Southern hospitality abound here like nowhere else. It was like we stepped back in time while enjoying the excellent five-course meal, chatting and catching up with each other like Southern belles from centuries ago. Wedding worries left me for the few precious hours I was here due to the welcome distraction of antebellum antiques, furnishings, decorations, and architecture! Thank you for such an unforgettable time!

Beutiful antibellum home with exquisite antiques and flower arrangements in a very relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was served on antique china with sterling silverware and linens. Very tasty as well!

I hosted a Bridesmaid Luncheon at Shadowlawn recently for my niece and was very impressed and extremely satisfied with everything. The food was great! I would highly recommend it for any small event involving a meal.

I have never met more gracious hostesses. Everything about the Bed and Breakfast exceeded all expectations! My daughter's wedding was held there (a first for Shadowlawn).We had rain the night before. What could have been a disaster was handled with grace and the wedding was a great success. Thanks Burnette and Liz! You are what all Bed and Breakfasts should aspire to be.
