5 out of 5Wonderful getaway "somewhere in time"
March 31, 2009
I should have known we'd love the Candlelight Inn from the moment we walked in. Music from the romantic film "Somewhere in Time" was playing, and it's one of my wife's favorite movies! And what a lovely step back in time it was. The house was beautiful, hot cocoa and muffins were delivered to our door in the morning and the breakfast was delicious. Lynette is a food writer for the local paper and, after sampling a few of her dishes, we bought her Candlelight Inn cookbook. Part of the Inn's tradition is to leave a few coins hidden about your guest room for the next traveler to find. We found a few before we learned of the story, then stashed a few more. Lynette and Zig are charming hosts and were a pleasure to be around (we spent two hours over breakfast because the conversation with Lynette and the other guests was as good as the food). When in Red Wing, let them pamper you!
4.6 out of 5Candlelight's Innkeeper is a delight!
July 30, 2008
We were traveling in Minnesota and didn't have a place to stay when we arrived in Red Wing; we found out about the Candlelight and called at 5pm for a room. They had a room for the night and were exceptionally accommodating with our last-minute arrival. The rooms are very nice and generously sized with a fairly comfy bed; the bathrooms are smaller and older but as expected for the age of the house. Lynette was extremely helpful in giving us a lot of Red Wing history and recommendations for dinner. The highlight had to be the breakfast. Absolutely delicious! Especially tasty were the potatoes and cheese baked in little ramekins. Lynette sat and visited with us for a long time while we were eating and it was great conversation. She definitely goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. Thanks for the hospitality!
4.8 out of 5a great place to stay

we celebrated our anniversary here. the innkeepers lynette and zig were the best. we more than enjoyed the hearty breakfasts served each morning and even before breakfast a tray with coffee, muffins, orange juice delivered to our door. the inn itself is outstanding in its atmosphere - all woodwork is in the original condition. fireplaces abound and a cozy whirlpool in our room put this weekend over the top. i would surely recommend this b&b to anyone looking for an outstanding place to stay.
