Built as a wedding present to his bride, Susan Mealey, by Rufus Rand, heir to a natural gas lighting fortune, The Rand House served as the prominent family's summer home for more than 60 years. The estate's secluded four acre grounds include extensive flower gardens, New England style stone fences and hundreds of feet of luxurious lilac bushes ringing its perimeter. Now totally renovated, The Rand House has become a popular weekend retreat for history buffs and antiquers visiting the more than two dozen antique shops nearby. This was our 5th time at Rand House, and it was wonderful - as always. Duffy and Merrill take very good care of us. We love the Garden Room with it's 3 separate rooms. Breakfast was delicious and so beautifully presented I had to take a picture!

Duffy and Merrill are the perfect hosts. They were friendly and attentive to our desire to have a relaxing weekend. Biking in the Monticello area was just what we needed - beautiful scenery and great roads for safe travel. We will definitely be back.
