Mitchell-Tappan House

Pam was so friendly, the house was beautiful but cozy and liveable, the food was delicious, and we really felt welcome. My husband and I stayed along with our 13-year-old son - we were in the area for a karate tournament. Everyone enjoyed everything about the B&B - location, comfort, food, hosts. The area has a lot of interesting things to do - we are thinking we'll head back for a family vacation! Thanks, Pam! ~The Potters

This quaint Victorian home is set in a quiet neighborhood a few blocks from downtown Hibbing, MN. It is charmingly decorated in blues and yellows and its bright rooms are very well maintained. As the home of the former mine superintendents, it was the first of 180 houses moved to Hibbing when the former town site had to be relocated a century ago. Guests enjoy the spacious living room, sun room, dining room and butler's pantry on the main floor, as well as bedrooms and a shared bath on the 2nd and 3rd floors. A delicious, hot breakfast is served in the morning, including local bakery specialties such as Poticia bread. History buffs will enjoy hearing stories of Hibbing in its earlier days from host Pam, as well as being able to look at photographs of the neighborhood's development and the home's history. This inn offers great value at a very reasonable price.

The Mitchell-Tappan House was a great place to stay. Very customer oriented and friendly inn keepers. Very top notch all the way around. Would have no problems staying there again. We were there to bicycle the Mesabi Trail (very scenic), but found that Hibbing has lots of history to share: boyhood home of Bob Dylan; largest open pit iron ore mine in world; Greyhound Bus Museum; unique high school auditorium....just to name a few.

Great place. Wonderful hosts. Breakfasts so tasty. We came for Dylan Days and B&B was within walking distance of the places we wanted to go.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Mitchell-Tappan House last weekend. We were utterly blown away by the comfort, cleanliness, and the service we received from Pam and Mike. When one first walks in, you can't help but notice the pleasant decor and the sense of "home." Immediately upon arriving, Mike gave us a grand tour of the place (beautiful throughout the entire house) and showed us to our room. We stayed in the "Oliver Room" and were not disappointed. The room was immaculate (not to mention extremely charming), the bed was very comfortable, and we had a pleasant, restful night. The next morning, Pam delivered a delicious breakfast up to our room. We spent a wonderful morning enjoying the meal and the view from our room. Pam and Mike are wonderful inkeepers; this place is definitely the best bed and breakfast we've stayed at and the number one place to stay in the area!

I was in Hibbing to work for 2 weeks. The folks for whom I was working recommended this B&B, but I stubbornly booked a local motel instead. After one night, I was out looking for an alternative and stopped by this spot. I was immediately smitten and moved in the next day. I couldn't have been more pleased with the comfy accomodations, the delicious breakfasts, Pam's many thoughtful gestures, and the most gracious hospitality. It was a thoroughly enjoyable stay. After my work was completed and I departed, I went through a bit of withdrawal! I hope to have the opportunity to get back here one day soon. I have nothing but rave reviews.

A group of 11 adults from Melbourne, Australia booked out the whole B&B for the period from 27 December 2010 until 31 December 2010 and we had a memorable and very enjoyable stay, pampered by Pam (no pun intended) who provided a variety of sumptuous USA/Scandanavian breakfasts and was always willing to go the extra yard to assist us negotiate our way around Hibbing. We thoroughly enjoyed the facilities.

Pam gave us a VERY quick "meet and greet" since we were heading to a wedding and about 2 hours behind schedule! We were shown directly to our room and we headed out. The next morning we decided to not eat at the B&B due to our friends wanting to go to brunch. Pam made me coffee and told me all about the history of Hibbing, the B&B and how they came to buy the place. What a perfect home! We will be visiting again. We had a wonderful time.

The Mitchell - Tappan House, located in Hibbing, MN was quite a lovely surprise! The grounds, home, & individual rooms are relaxing, peaceful and serene. This is the perfect place for a weekend get away! The breakfast was delicious and the company of the inn keeper was wonderful. I would recommend the Mitchell-Tappan to anyone who wants a great B & B experience.

Lovely atmosphere, Very comprehensive kitchen supplies, bath supplies, movies, books. They have thought of everything. Formal breakfast was gorgeous!

This house is tastefully decorated in blue and yellow. The antiques are beautiful and used in good taste. The food is outstanding and the hosts are very friendly people.

My wife and I did a two week tour of several cities in Minnesota, including Grand Marais, Duluth & Hibbing. We were up there to escape the Florida heat and didn't really know what we were going to do, but turned out to have a really great vacation. Please see my other posts regarding lodging, meals, etc. if you are interested in a similar trip. Regarding this B&B...excellent place to visit. This is similar to an image that pops into my head when describing your prototypical B&B. We ended up in Hibbing and weren't really sure what to do, but Pam gave us several options to keep busy. The town was very cute and we spent a lot of time walking around. A few spots weren't super nice, but nothing scary and most of the town was nice. Pam keeps the B&B extremely clean and well maintained, and it shows. She had some minor construction going on outside but was more than willing to chat with us when we tracked her down. We stayed in the room on the third floor and we were very pleased. Very nice bedroom and 'family room' area with plenty of room to spread out. Overall an excellent place to stay and the rates were great.

I've always wanted my partner and I to get away to a B&B, but I didn't think it would be his thing. This B&B was the perfect place to go for our first experience. The Mitchell Tappan House is in a perfect location for bicyclists doing the Mosabi Trail. The garden room is the best. Great food. Clean and very comfortable.

We usually camp, due to short time and predicted rain, opted for B & B. Our camping days may be over! Rooms were cozy, other guests interesting. Breakfasts were terrific, food not the ordinary stuff. Pam is very friendly, knowledgeable about the area, full of information she shares.

Pam is a great person and knows a lot about the community and sites to see. Her cooking was unlike anything I had ever had..nothing short of amazing. We stayed in the Oliver Room which was beautifully decorating and spotless. The rate was awesome and we really enjoyed spending our 2nd anniversary there and will do it again! the bed & breakfast home was lovely from the time we saw the outside of the home as well as all the rooms inside. The host, Pam, & food she served was wonderful. The history of the home and town was very interesting and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

My wife Susan, myself, and two other couples stayed here on August 30th 2008 following a fifty mile cycling trek from Grand Rapids to Hibbing along the beautiful Mesabi Trail. We took over the large second floor bedrooms. The victorian style decorating is charming and warm. The cleanliness was first rate! Our group afternoon wind down on the front porch with two rocking chairs and a swinging seat for two, in the heart of small town America was a wonderful experience. Our host Pam took care of every detail for us including a breakfast fit for a king! Morning coffee in the sun room made for an excellent start of our day. We were off on the trail the next morning after stocking up on fruit provide by Pam for our coolers. Secure bike storage was provided in a locked garage. Excellent value for the price. I travelled from Manchester,UK to see Hibbing and its Dylan heritage. The B+B is right in the heart of it: close to his home, Zimmy's and High School. Pam and Mike are very welcoming and it was fun to talk to the other guests.Excellent value.

It's hard to believe that this charming bed and breakfast is a house that was moved from another location earlier in it's history. All the rooms have a comfortable old fashioned ambience. Innkeepers, Pam and Mike are dedicated to making sure you have a pleasant stay.

My wife and I stayed w/ Pam and Mike on 8/1/08 to 8/3/08. The house was immaculate, very beautifully decorated and the 3rd floor suite was great, as we were accompanied by our 14 yr old grandson. Pams breakfasts were among the best we've had at B&Bs and her smile and helpful attitude were exceptional. There was a lot to see and do to keep the grandson happy and also just great for a quiet afternoon with a good novel. We will definitely return.

Pam was a marvelous host. She tried hard to accomodate my dietary needs. The decorations were beautiful. She thought of everything. We stayed in the garden suite which was very private. We loved the outdoor patio and being able to sit under the stars.

First time I have stayed at a B & B. Won't be the last. Would have stayed there for the entire five day MS Tram ride if I could have. Pam was great. Very accomodating with individual meals, transportation and personal needs. Thanks, Pam!!

We almost never to to B&B's but after this experience, that has to change. I can't give this home, hostess, comfortable bed and delicious food high enough marks! It's like walking into the most lovely fairytale, yet the people are very real and lots of fun. It's worth the trip.
