Located on the north shore of Lake Superior just three miles east of Grand Marais, Minnesota, the Scottish retreat Skara Brae beckons with breathtaking views and old-world hospitality. Enjoy the mesmerizing sights and sounds from the lake 100 feet below while relaxing on the comfortable and spacious decks or fireside in the lakefront living room. Accommodations include one cottage with king-sized bed, kitchenette and bath, a two-room suite with private bath and a third queen-size bedroom with adjacent bath. European art, quilts, English country fabrics and native knotty pine wood decorate the bedrooms.

    Grand Marais, Minnesoata is about 110 miles northeast of Duluth on Highway 61. Croftville is an additional 3 miles northeast of Grand Marais proper. Croftville road (county road 87) will be your first clue that you are approaching Skara Brae. There are blue highway signs giving directions to various establishments. Look for our sign on the lakeside of Highway 61 after you pass the Wedgewood Motel. Turn right onto our property, park in one of the three provided spots and come on in.

    Enchanting Baird Cottage is a 10 sided structure with over 500 square feet of living quarters and private bath.   Comfortable English country furnishings including a king-sized bed, wing-back chairs and patchwork quilt provide a cozy, restful environment.  For your enjoyment there is a TV/VCR and audio system.  Awaken in the morning to grand views of Lake  Superior.  The kitchenette includes a coffee maker, toaster, microwave and refrigerator.  In the summer you also have direct access to the adjacent side yard, woods and spacious deck areas.  Winter nights can be spent playing your favorite board game by a roaring fire in the common area.Stonehaven Room is delightfully cozy and restful with a queen feather bed and adjoining full private bath. Decorated with fishing memorabilia, a TV/VCR, stereo CD system, plus a wonderful selection of books for your enjoyment.  Located close to our warm and inviting living room with chenille sectional sofa, game table and massive brick fireplace.
    Bell Rock Suite with the ultimate lake view, celebrates famous lighthouses in Scotland and around the Great Lakes.  Amenities include a private entrance, sitting room with sleeper sofa, TV/VCR, audio system, private bath, and a queen featherbed.  This suite can accommodate 4 if necessary.  With advance notice, massage therapy is available during your stay in Bell Rock.  Check with the innkeepers for massage therapy pricing and availability.Delicious full breakfasts are served at 9am in the lake view dining room.  This is the time to enjoy the company of other guests, sharing information about your adventures here on the North Shore.  Breakfast menu items may include Bacon Wild Rice Quiche, Cranachen, Cinnamon Raisen French Toast Souffle, Rhubarb Strawberry Fool, Ham and Apple Strata, Baked Banana Crumble or Swiss Cheese Vegetable Quiche. Menus change daily.  We are happy to accommodate dietary special needs with advance notice.
