Historic Hutchinson House B&B

Great place to stay if you are visiting Northfield or Faribault. Tami is a great hostess, the inn is beautifully done, breakfast was great. All in all a perfect stay. I will return whenever we are back visiting the area.

This is an outstanding Bed and Breakfast. We plan to return. Beautiful home, nice historic town with great restaurants and places to explore. Staff is wonderful and so was breakfast!!!

My daughter and I stayed at the Hutchinson House on a recent college visit to St. Olaf in nearby Northfield. We had everything we needed including a pleasant and informative host and a yummy breakfast. We also liked having an attached private bath but our favorite part of the stay was Butler, the resident and very well behaved bulldog.

Loved it! Welcoming, accommodating for some extra considerations, very comfortable beds, cozy bedrooms even in the cold, exceptional breakfast!

We chose the Historic Hutchinson House B&B for our annual holiday girls trip this year because of the owners and also to check out Faribault. The owners (and Butler) were fantastic and breakfast was delicious. Tami and Doug are very knowledgable about Faribault history and the town. I loved that the Woolen Mill is open again. Lots of history there. The best part was sitting on the main floor with my girlfriends in a very beautiful B&B and sharing time with them. We highly recommend this B&B.

What a lovely experience we enjoyed, in a beautiful classic home with outstanding hosts. Doug & Tami warmly greeted us, then later brought all guests together in a comfortable and engaging way. Tami's knowledge of the home and her incredible decorating flair is amazing. She is genuinely hospitable and creates the lovely welcoming tone at the Hutchinson House. We were treated to the most amazing three course breakfast we've ever had! This was an experience one wants to return to again and again and again. I'd love the recipe for the blueberry oatmeal dish (wonderful!!) Thank you for welcoming us into your home. The kindness in making this possbile for veterans is an example of your character. I've stayed in many wonderful B & B's, and this one would have to be at the top of my list. Cool Victorian house, clean and beautiful rooms, and excellent breakfasts. But the "make or break" for a B & B is the hosts. Tami and Doug are the best-- knowledgeable, engaging and easy-going, they opened their home to us as if we had been friends for a long time. Highly recommended!!

Our first visit to Faribault, Mn. was a pleasant one to be remembered. The Historic Hutchinson House was better than what we had expected. Tami and Doug were great hosts. The bed was very comfortable and the room was bright and cheerful. The fall is a good time to visit.

Huge house and decorated so fun and all the rooms are only 4 years old with the renovations/upgrades from the new owners five years ago! FUN and upbeat couple who truly made our stay enjoyable and welcoming! The elaborate and festive breakfast was out of this world!!! Felt at home and welcomed - will definitely go back!

Our overnight at the B & B was great. Tami was a wonderful hostess and we enjoyed visiting with her. The house was beautiful and what was even better was the fabulous way she decorated for Halloween. The rooms were phenomenal - such fun to look through. Our breakfast the next morning was delicious and we so enjoyed visiting with the other guests and Tami. We would go back again!

Doug and Tami were wonderful hosts, treating us to their beautifully restored and furnished home as if we were their personal quests. The freshly cooked breakfast was the highlight of our stay.

Historic Hutchinson House is a fabulous B&B. Not only are the hosts wonderful and the accommodation perfect, but the location is absolutely perfect. We could not have asked for more!

It was a great B&B that allowed us to enjoy a quick night away from the Twin Cities. We enjoyed Tami and Doug's wonderful breakfast and great conversations. There was plenty to do for food, entertainment and outdoor activities. We will come again!

A link from the visit Nothfield website got us a room booked at the Historic Hutchinson House by mistake. We visited the Faribault website to see what there was to do and where to eat but found very little. To our surprise when we arrived at HHH Tami filled us in on several things to do and places to eat within walking distance. Breakfast was great and we spent an hour visiting with Tami and Doug before check out. Book a stay, you won't be disappointed. G + C Thompson, St Paul.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hutchinson House. The decor on the outside of the house is what captured our attention. The front porch was a wonderful place to sit and relax. The room we had was extremely clean and the "bubbler" jet tub was the best tub I have ever been in! That was a real treat after a long day of walking around town. Our room also had a little private screened-in porch that we also enjoyed. I would definitely suggest this Inn to friends. Make sure you plan to see Ivan, the famous wood carver, and his son Chris, when you are in town. Also, the Depot Restaurant in town was the best food I have had in a long, long time!

Tami and Butler were holding down the fort...and did an outstanding job. Tami gets all the credit for a delicious breakfast and being a great host; Butler is a great addition because of his warm personality.

By good fortune, we were the only guests on a usually busy weekend night, giving us more time to chat with our very personable hostess, Tami. She knows how to make guests feel welcome, and she knows Faribault well, giving us good information to help us understand what we observed about this historic community.

My fiancé and I booked this B&B to get away from the madness of work and planning our weddings. We really enjoyed the small town of Fairbault and the amenities provided at the Hutchinson House. Breakfast was delicious and customized for our many allergies. The claw foot tub in the Professors room provided for a good soak. Super Soft robes and bedding. Great sleep.

The Historic Hutchinson B&B is a wonderful place to stay. The owners are do nice and the B&B is beautiful and clean!

I enjoyed my stay at the Hutchinson House. It is a classic place to stay. We were treated well by the hostess and host and they were sincerely interested that we had a good visit to Faribault. The rooms were comfortable. The hostess provided a new and yummy breakfast each morning of our stay. If I am ever in Faribault again, I will stay at the Hutchinson House. Thank you Tami and Doug. The Hutchinson House is a great, historic Victorian in Faribault, MN. I was pleased with the extremely comfortable bed and quiet, restful atmosphere. Tami is an accomodating innkeeper who juggled the varying morning schedules of several guests without complaint. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

Tami is an excellent host. We recently stayed at the Hutchinson House for two nights the 30th and 31st of March. Tami is a wonderful cook......we did not eat lunch and ate a late dinner both days we stayed there as Tami made two breakfast's that were to die for! Very clean house, charming, lots of character , and a good location in Faribault. Next time we make a trip to the cities we will be back.

I reserved the room well in advance so had the whole house from which to choose. We got the room with the fancy blower tub (didn't use) and the porch (did use). The porch was tiny, but it was nice to sit there after dark and enjoy a glass of wine (glasses provided). The hosts were very nice and we spent some time talking history with them. All the rooms were well appointed and while our room was on the dark side, there were enough lights. We had to close the curtains for any privacy, which made the room a rather dark during the day, but we worked around it. A lighter/gauzier liner curtain could improve this feature. The bed made a lot of noise and we were too self conscious to try any extra curricular activities, which was a disappointment. But I guess if you want a historic place, once must deal with historic furniture. We could also hear the neighbors (when they moved in) voices under the wide door crack and through the air vents, which also inhibited us. That aside, were were happy to be there and would recommend it to anyone. We didn't really use any of the public rooms, but it is a nice feature. There were lots of brochures about the area and restaurant menus available, which was a nice touch too. Breakfast was really good and lavish. Nice for a special occasion. Great front porch with furniture. Stay here for a quick getaway!

My wife and I stayed here and it was our first time in a bed and breakfast. The whole house is pretty cool, with styling and craftsmanship from the era...but the rest of the house is updated so it felt comfortable to us. We stayed in Dr. Haessly's suite. The room was great...and the modern bathroom included a tub with jets (plus the tile shower). Service was great...and Tami is a great cook. Breakfasts on Sat and Sun were fantastic. Overall, we were very happy and will be returning again.

Faribault is a little-known treasury of architecture and history, and Tami and Doug offer insiders' insight. They are also ideal innkeepers, warm and welcoming but never obtrusive, very attentive to detail and quality, from the coffee to the furnishing and maintenance of their spectacular Queen Anne mansion. I wish our peaceful stay could have lasted a week.

My son and I enjoyed our stay on the way to a summer visit at St. Olaf. Normally we would not have considered a B&B because of the cost but the mid-week rate was comparable to a good hotel including breakfast. In addition, the hotels in Northfield near St. Olaf looked old and were all situated along the railroad tracks. The more hotel reviews that I read the better the Hutchinson House sounded. Meeting Tami and Doug was more like arriving at a close friend or relatives house. They had us unloaded and settled in minutes. After a 13 hour drive we wanted to sit in our room, eat pizza and relax. They steered us quickly to the right pizza carryout. The beds were perfect and we were up early for a three course breakfast that exceeded our expectations. The coffee was great, too. We will stay again.

House is within walking distance to downtown Faribault, where there are many good dining options. Tami is very familar with both town of Faribault and state of Minnesota - providing us with great recommendations during our brief visit. We will be back at Hutchinson House during our next visit to Southern Minnesota!

Beautiful victorian mansion with large rooms and very comfortable bed. A perfect place for a quiet get-away. Enjoyed eating breakfast on the porch. Very hospitable innkeeper!

My daughter and I just spent two nights at the Historic Hutchinson House B & B in Faribault, MN. We LOVED the Victorian decor, the comfortable beds, the delicious breakfasts, and the friendly inkeepers, Tami and Doug. It was a wonderful experience for both of us. We hope to visit again sometime!

My wife and I spent the night after going on a spur of the moment motorcycle trip with no destination in mind. Tami and Doug were very accomodating ! The house was very clean and nicely furnished. The room we stayed in had a modern bathroom with a hot tub which felt great after a long day on the road! Sunday morning's 3 course breakfast was wonderful and afterwards we had a nice long conversation about the history of the home and the families that occupied it. Great weekend with very friendly inn keepers.

Hutchinson House ranks high on our list for comfort & accomadations. We felt like we were visiting good friends who were happy to have us. We have stayed in B&Bs in Europe, as well as a variety of charming places in California We enjoy our travels much more when we find new friends in sparkling clean surroundings, who enjoy talking with us and doing everything to make us comfortable. High points to Tami & Doug.

Tami and Doug are gracious hosts. They welcoming and friendly and make you feel at home. The house is beautiful and tastefully furnished. I would go back just for Tami's breakfast!

We went to Faribault for a wedding and spent one night at the Hutchinson House. Now I am regretting we didn't reserve 2 nights. Tammy and Doug are wonderful hosts. Loved Tammy's wonderful breakfast. It was yummy and indulgent. Felt pampered. Doug's company was wonderful. Both Tammy and Doug make you feel at home and like you want to come back, which we will. The house is beautiful and the room was amazing. I'm still thinking about the soft sheets that I slept in. And best of all was sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee in the rain with good company and the cutest dog in the world. Thanks for cuddling with me Butler. We will most certainly go back again.

We had a great time in the Professor's room. The bed was very soft and inviting. The food and company was even better. We were very happy with our stay.

Our 1st time visiting Fairbault, and Tammy the inn keeper was very helpful with suggestions on dining and sight seeing. We felt welcomed from the start, and can't wait to visit again.

Another delightful stay at this historic B&B ... I love the way it's not fussy or overdone with knickknacks. Rather, it's a simple and classy rendition of historic. And the heated bathroom floor felt divine on a cold morning!

I stayed at the Hutchinson House in Faribault with 6 girlfriends. We rented the whole house, so we could have it to ourselves! It was a wonderful time. I highly recommend staying at the B & B! It is a very ornate, beautifully detailed, luxurious home. The breakfast was awesome, and Tami was so friendly and full of information about the area. I would definitely stay there again! It was another great time for the "Cats Club"!!! :):)

We had a great stay at the Hutchinson House in the Heassly Suite. The bathroom had a heated floor which was a nice feeling late at night and early in the morning. The high bed was very comfortable. Tami's breakfast was so good and filling that we skipped lunch. The downtown area is within walking distance and has shops for all interests. We highly recommend the Hutchinson House.

This extraordinary house has tremendous architectural detail throughout, which the owners keenly appreciate and have worked very hard to maintain and renovate in certain key areas. The bathrooms include both the traditional tub in at least one room and excellent and attractive new showers, well-designed and well-built, in other rooms. There are several rooms with great eastern-facing morning light and a couple with late afternoon lighting. The amenities we search for today, including wireless, are provided and work well. There is not a single negative of any kind that I found during my stay -- and I really enjoyed the attention to the many different historical aspects of the interior design and features of the house. The friendliness and welcoming aspect of the owners was superb, just what I'd expect in a small Midwestern town. The center of the village is walking distance away and there is an extraordinary asset on Central Avenue, a former opera house and movie house, which now houses a modern theater with a variety of performances; the entire building is now the headquarters for the very excellent regional arts association, with exhibits and a gift shop. There are a number of unique shops along Central Avenue and side streets that are well worth investigating; I spent the better part of my day looking through antique shops, a great coffee shop with devastating pastries, a well-known local cheese shop and eatery, the former Rock Island railroad station that is now an excellent restaurant. The room rates for the Hutchinson House B&B were excellent, especially during an off-season visit. This is a very friendly and inviting inn that is definitely not like any hotel or chain operation, this is a great choice. Dave Amesbury MA USA

What a fabulous experience we had at the Hutchinson House! We stayed two nights and so we got to experience Tami's wonderful breakfasts twice! Our romm, Johnson's Pride, was very comfortable - loved the sitting area in the "turret" with sun streaming in. The house itself has a great story that Doug and Tami enjoy sharing - very interesting history. They have maintained the "historic" feel of the house very well but have not made it feel like a museum - so we loved just hanging out, chatting and reading. Can't wait to go back - the downtown was fun to explore and we had plenty to do in Fairbault and the surrounding area. A fabulous mid-winter retreat!

This was my wife and my first b&b experience ever and we are afraid to try a new b&b because it probably wont be as good as this one! Only drawback was no king beds but being close is what a b&b should be about. Great breakfast and friendly hosts!

Our room was beautifully furnished and very large. What really made our stay outstanding, in addition to Tammy's warm and friendly hospitalily, were the two delicious breakfasts which held us through very long mornings. Both meals had two lovely courses, the main course included eggs nicely prepared and presented. If we are ever in that area again we would not hesitate to stay at the Hostoric Hutchinson House!

This by far was our best B&B experience. The house was charming, the rooms were welcoming and very clean, and the food was amazing. The innkeepers were fabulous with their knowledge of the history of the house and the local area. They were able to point us to some great entertainment and wonderful dining options. We had a great anniversary and can't wait to go back!

We had a great, relaxing stay. The room had a balcony that we really enjoyed. The owners made us feel really welcome and felt like long time friends. They offered great advice on where to eat and what to see. We would definitely stay there again.

The Hutchnson House B&B was great alternative to staying in a hotel/motel. My husband and I had been given tickets to St Olaf's University annual Christmas concert in Northfield and we needed a place to spend the night before returning home to Ames, IA. We decided to "treat" ourselves to an early Christmas gift by booking a room at a B&B instead of staying at a motel. This B&B was a short distance from Northfield and very close to HWY 35. When we booked the room, we already knew we had a very friendly owner. Tami and Doug were very friendly (cute couple, too)....in fact they greeted us when we returned late that night from the concert. We felt like "teenagers" on a date and having our parents wait up for us.....we are far from being teenagers! The room was very nice and the bed was WONDERFUL.....so comfortable that we overslept and almost missed the delicious 3 course breakfast that was served. The town of Faribault is very cute and has many nice restaurants closeby. We would definitely stay there again.....hopefully next Christmas.

We found the Hutchinson House to be beautifully restored with all amenities top notch. It's a great old house with a lot of interesting features and history. A highlight is the majestic porch with comfortable furniture where you can enjoy a glass of wine in the evening and coffee in the morning with views of a lovely old neighborhood. Great hospitality and a wonderful breakfast.

Our small group had a wonderful stay at the HHH. The owners were awesome and very accommodating to our needs.

The proprietors were very friendly and helpful, but not cloying. Breakfast was outstanding, the beds and linens were luxurious. Would definitely return.

We stayed in The Professor's Room to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful visit. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, the common rooms were nicely decorated, and breakfast was fabulous! We peeked into the other rooms, many of them suites, and all were beautiful. We'd highly recommend the Historic Hutchinson House!
