We have stayed with Brian and Mary several times and always look forward to our return visits. The breakfasts are always wonderful and very artfully presented, the rooms are very clean and beautifully designed and the hosts very welcoming. We already have reservations for another visit!

We had a lovely and relaxing short stay with Brian and Mary at Solglimt! Upon arrival they gave us a tour of their house and showed us the rooms and what they had done to the house in the last few years - wonderful work. The view of Lake Superior from the living room/breakfast room is magnificent. We had booked the Kandinsky Suite and they offered us a free upgrade to the Lake Superior Suite (because it was vacant that night) from which we could watch the big boats and the waves. And the room has a steam shower, which was perfect or the rather cold and rainy day! The house is always stocked with snacks, sodas and ice cream - a very nice bonus. The breakfast was delicious and the presentation of the food very unique (yes, it actually tastes and looks as delicious as on the pictures!!) We also really appreciated the restaurant suggestions by Mary and Brian and both Lake Avenue in Duluth as well as the flamingo themed Maggie's in Bayfield had superb food. This is the best run B&B we have ever been to and we will most definitely recommend Solglimt to all of our friends! Thank you for your hospitality! Heidi (Graz, Austria) & Marin (Chicago, IL)

I've stayed in many bed and breakfasts, and found Solglimt to be exceptional for numerous reasons. The location, steps from the beach, is amazing. The house itself, as well as all the rooms and the common spaces, are extremely comfortable and incredibly unique. The food is artful and delicious. It's really the kind of place you must experience first hand to truly appreciate. Highly recommended!

We recieved a bed and breakfast gift card from our son last Christmas, and finally found a weekend to use it. It was a "first" experience for both my husband and I. I began my search looking for different areas to go to and started touring the Inns that looked interesting. I pulled up Duluth, because we both love the area, and it had been a long time since we had gone even for the day. Well, I came across Soglimt and right away I knew it was just what I was looking for. We decided to come the weekend before Thanksgiving. I thought "a nice get away before all the Holiday hoopla starts! I am so glad we did it. I loved everything about it! Mary and Brian are such gracious hosts. The breakfasts they served were spectacular. The accomodations are awesome. We will definately be back! Thank you for your hospitality! Tom and Mary Jo Bloomington, MN

I felt like I shouldn't rate every category outstanding because that seems less helpful to those reading the reviews, but when I thought about each category individually I had to. I was blown away by the Solglimt, it was just a top notch b & b. The location, an easy walk to Canal Park and the beach literally out the back door, was fantastic. It would make the place worth it even if it were mediocre, which it isn't. All over the property you can tell that Mary and Brian have paid attention to details and it makes for a wonderful stay. We thought from the pictures that it might end up being to 'modern' for are taste but instead it was fun, inviting, and BEAUTIFUL! In the morning while we ate absolutely delicious food while we watched ships lining up and waiting a little ways off shore to pass under the canal bridge and enter port. By the way the food was the best I've had as of yet. The last evening I took some time to walk out the back onto the beach and listen to the waves and check out the stars, a true vacation. By the way if you stay here, eat at Pizza Luce's atleast once, it's up just a little ways past Canal Park but it's worth the walk!

This was the first time that I had been to a B&B and it was amazing. Brian and Mary make you feel at home, but still give you your space. The view is gorgeous and the food is delicious! I would highly recommend Solglimt.
