Twin Gables Inn

The B&B owners graciously upgraded our room free-of-charge since we were there in the off-season and pricier rooms were available. Our room had a king sized bed and gas fireplace. The breakfast provided in the morning was hearty and delicious (the cinnamon scone was the best I’ve ever had). The inn’s Common Room was comfortable, clean, and quiet. Complimentary hot beverages were available all day, as was a computer with internet service and lots of info about things to do in the area. Came home feeling very relaxed and refreshed after my stay at Twin Gables.

My fiancee and I needed a date night and chose this little place because it is so close to Grand Rapids. The hostess was very helpfull, the breakfast was great, the rooms were fine-although our bed was a tad uncomfortable. We like to watch hockey and the TV's in the rooms are quite small. -Thats OK we found something much more fun to do. ;-) I already have plans to stay again.

My husband and I went to Twin Gables for a short weekend retreat and couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. We stayed in the Vintner's Loft, which was removed from the main house and off by itself and enjoyed the solitude. The Innkeeper was wonderful and breakfast the next day was utterly delicious!

It was a nice enough place, but the inn keepers weren't around much. We explained that we had to leave earlier than the 9:00 breakfast and were told someone would be up to at least to accomodate something on a lighter note. We waited in the morning and knocked on their door several times, to no avail. We just put the keys on the counter and left.

Having just finalized my divorse I wanted to get away for some peace and relaxation. Twin Gables was perfect!

I surprised my Christmas obsessed sister with a Christmas weekend at Twin Gables. Their all-inclusive package was amazing. The staff was so very nice to us and made extra effort to make all their guests felt at home. For example, I casually mentioned in an email how we love dessert wine, and sure enough, they had specially ordered dessert wine for us! Our room was clean and comfortable, and the food was fantastic. We will definitely be going there again!

We booked out stay here because they offered a Groupon Deal. We enjoyed our stay so much we booked an extra night and they extended the Groupon rate even though they didn't have to. Danielle and David are warm, relaxed and friendly and provide a very comfortable and laid-back atmosphere. And the breakfasts are wonderful. I would highly recommend Twin Gables.

We got a groupon deal to stay here, and took advantage of it for 24 hours in the Saugatuck-South haven area. It was a great deal and a nice stay. Our room was a bit under-cared for, and the bathroom needed much work. The sink faucet did not work well, making cold/hot difficult. But otherwise, the atmosphere was very peasant, and the breakfast was very good. We would stay again.

We stayed for a weekend in November. The Bed and Breakfast is very large with lots of rooms. The place is very well decorated and has alot of nice antique decor. Our room was a nice size with a warm fireplace! The service was great and the breakfasts were so filling and very delicious. Sometimes the goal of staying at a Bed and Breakfast is to meet and visit with the other guests and if that is your goal, this isn't the place for you. Everyone has breakfast at individual tables and so you don't get alot of socilization with others. If, however, you are looking for a place where you can get away and do your own thing, this is definitely a great place to stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Twin Gables Inn and our time in Saugatuck.

We stayed at the Twin Gables in July, 2011. The first thing that we noticed was that the entry door was locked and the bell was broken so we had to wait until someone came out so that we could check in. The room we stayed in was seperate from the house and it was perfect. Very private. he one draw back to this B&B was that it was very far from the downtown area and right off the highway. For the price I would definately pick a B&B that was closer to the downtown area.

Mold around caulking in shower. You could smell it in the bathroom. Need to clean the shower with strong bleach solution to kill the mold.

What a wonderful place to stay. We had our own cottage. They left us a key and let us settle in at our convenience. In the morning, the staff welcomed us warmly with a scrumptious breakfast! We like our privacy and this was perfect for us.

My partner and I were delighted with this charming inn, and we found the service supurb.

Nice rooms but our mattress was awful, For a "bed and breakfast" they need to update the bed component. Food was good, very nicely served with great service!

We only stayed one night. Rooms are a bit tight, however I felt the price was reasonable and the breakfast was very good. Nice location, nice grounds, clean. I loved the diningarea and common area. I would stay here again.

Our first visit to Twin Gables in September 2011 was a very positive experience. The oversized room, large casual (and quiet) lobby, and great breakfasts were complimented with outstanding service. Within walking distance to downtown was a bonus. Plenty assortment of fresh coffee and goodies. Even a small frig. in our room. Also centrally located to Holland, and a short drive to the Fenville winery and restaurant (home made pies)! Try it - you can't go wrong. Also a quiet garden in back and an outdoor pool. Scads of nearby fruit farms. We will be back!

Lighting in the bathroom was inadequate, just the light from the exhaust fan. The dresser had no lamp on it. So there was really no place where I could see to put on my makeup. After the room was serviced while we were out all day we came back to find that my suitcase which had been upright on the floor had been knocked over, and my coat was on the floor underneath it. Overall the inn is very nice and conveniently located. Breakfast was outstanding.

Wonderful! The room was beautiful, however due to it being an older building, the flooring was uneven, therefore if you have a gait instability, DO NOT stay in The Riesling. Luckily, we have good balance. This did affect our sleeping because one would roll onto the other due to the imbalance. However, breakfast was great, hospitality and location was perfect. We would stay here again!

Twin Gables is a wonderful place to get away for the weekend. The rooms, though small, are comfortable. The service was personable and efficient. And breakfast was the high point- a wonderful array of great food

We love the Saugatuck/Douglas area. B&B is about 10-15 min walk from main street, which is quite nice when the weather cooperates. The staff wasn't as friendly as we thought they would be. The innkeeper/staff's children or grandchildren can be heard running around in the morning while eating breakfast. We heard them both mornings. Love the breakfast porch with smaller tables. Breakfast food was good.

First, I was surprised at how large the grounds were. I haven't stayed there before and didnt expect the large yard, fire pit, and pond. The pool was great, and I used it the first nite we were there. The breakfast was not only delicious, but served with the utmost respect for each person. Very nice server! We did have to ask a couple of times for things that were not working properly,...fireplace,..pilot lit wasnt lit,... couldn't find the hot chocolate...our room was mixed up with another and we were given the wrong room at first. .. But on the whole, we did enjoy our stay and loved the look of the large living room, dining room, and pool area. The bed also we ultra comfortable! We would stay there again.

We totally enjoyed our stay at Twin Gables. The rooms were lovely and clean. The location is perfect, view of the Kalamazoo River and walking distance to downtown. The breakfast was outstanding!

Enjoyed a two night stay at Twin Gables Inn. I have a special needs diet, and they were very accommodating.

The Twin Gables was a great place to stay. With its view of Lake Kalamazoo, close to both downtown and Blue Star highway, the location is great. The staff were great, always helpful and went out of their way to keep the exterior clean and comfortable. Enjoyed our staff even on a long holiday weekend. Every breakfast was different and even better than we expected.

This is a pretty place. I wondered why there were ear plugs and a noise machine in the room....The man next door snored all night and I heard him..... Too bad!

The B&B was very attractive and the food was outstanding. We really enjoyed our time here. My only suggestions are to find the helmets for the loaner bikes and turn the air conditioning off. It was a lovely day in the 70's and we opened the windows.

I was happy with my stay at Twin Gables. The location to downtown was perfect. The house was clean. The room was clean. The staff was pleasant. My only small issue would be that the warm breakfast dishes were just ok. But they had a fruit cup each morning and a scone one day and a great cranberry coffee cake the next that were great! I would stay there again. It was a good value.

We had a wonderful, comfortable time. Wonderful breakfasts. Snacks were weak. There was a tv problem which they worked hard to fix. The room was quaint and comfortable. Hope to go back next year.

The inn was lovely. The breakfast was tasty and will fill you up. The service was very helpful and accommodating.

This is the third time my wife and I have stayed at Twin Gables. We have never had a bad time! The view and the on-premises pool cannot be beat.

We went last year and loved it. I loved the breakfast & also free use of bikes & all beach chairs etc. I loved having my own house key to come & go. We stayed this year 8/2011 in Muskegon B&B..and doesnt compare to Twin Gables. We had no house key & she locked up at 11pm....had to pay for a room key to lock our door!

The staff was very friendly and informative. We really liked having free bikes to ride the few blocks to the center of Saugatuck, and could have taken the innkeeper's word that bike locks weren't necessary. After a few hours strolling up and down the blocks of shops, it was convenient to swiftly pedal back to the inn and outrun the thunderstorm that swept in from the lake. We considered the Zinfandel Room a bargain. Clean, tidy and well decorated. No view of the lake, but an appropriately reduced price. The room was too small to hang out in, but that hardly mattered with multiple seating areas on the first floor and throughout the grounds. The complimentary coffee, snacks, and miniature chocolate bars were a welcoming touch.

We stopped by briefly to check out the area and stayed two nights here. The place was clean, the heated pool was a really nice plus, and the full breakfast very good. It was also nice to have coffee, snacks and drinks available throughout the day. But our room was tiny, with few places to put things. There was a dresser but we didn't unpack and anyway the dresser would not have held all of our stuff and there would have been hardly a place to put the suitcases.We keep climbing over things. We did notice that there were larger rooms that were more expensive, so it may be that our room size was equivalent to the price, which was very reasonable. The young women greeters and servers were very cheerful and eager to be of service.

We stayed in the Bordeaux room which has a nicely remodeled bathroom. The air conditioning was quite cold, but the bathroom has a heater which helped. Enjoyed the pool, although it can get crowded at times. Breakfast is quite good with dish of fresh fruit, scones or coffecake and a hot egg entree. Nice location to walk into town for shopping or dinner. Nice to be able to borrow chairs for the beach, although we brought our own umbrella this time, because the Inn's are rather flimsy. Availability of hot tea, snacks, candy bars is very nice. There is a common refrigerator or guests use. Housekeeping timing is limited, so we were'nt always able to get the room cleaned.

Stayed 2 days room rather small the problem was breakfast too many people eating at the same time as there are 15 rooms and breakfast starts at 9:00 AM. They need to stagger there times have some people eat at 9:00, 9:15,9:30 .People could sign up for what time they want . Took us an hour to eat breakfast . On the positive we had to leave early our last morning when we left they made us a to go breakfast very good and very thougful.

We had a wonderful visit to the Twin Gables Inn and the Saugatuck/Douglas area. This was planned as a short get away before school started again. The inn keepers were pleasant and unobtrusive. The fellow travelers were respectful of the times and property. My only concern would be that this is not a place for people with mobility problems. Even though we stayed on the first floor, the pool was inaccessible (had to go down a flight of steps and back up another to get to the back yard and the pool. Also the two steps to get into the house were rather steep.

There were a number of good things about this B&B. First and foremost - the breakfasts were generous and excellent. If you didn't like what they had prepared for the meal that morning (although we did each day) they would prepare alternatives at your request. Also good, they lent bikes to guests at no charge for use in making the short ride to town and back. It worked very well for us. The bads: they kept the front door locked at all times and gave you only one key. Very much a hassle when you had more than one person staying in the room and you weren't together every time you returned. It was difficult at times to find anyone to assist you or answer questions. The rooms seemed to vary widely in size and amenities. The rooms were clean but the whole place felt somewhat run down. The whole experience made us feel a little bit like somewhat unwelcome house guests that were simply a burden to be tolerated by the innkeeper.

Really enjoyed the Twin Gables. Clean, friendly, and wonderful breakfasts. Highly recommend.

The Inn was comfortable, quiet and a reasonable walk into town. We appreciated the hospitality. "Window view" in our room of the harbor made us smile. Little window, a piece of harbor across a large lot, across the street. But, good.

The room was elegant and comfortable, and the breakfasts were outstanding. Waiting for the cookbook!

Enjoyed the breakfast. The room was spacious and comfortable. Very clean. Was a little disappointed that the inn keeper was not out and about. We would have enjoyed some pointers for area attractions.

Our only issue, really, was with some of the service. Everyone was very nice but they seemed kind of disorganized. When we arrived to check in the doorbell didn't work and the door was locked so we had to call the inn to get someone to come to the door and let us in. The food was very good but on one day of our stay the service was not great--- we waited a good 10 minutes for our fruit and coffee cake and then, another 20 before our main dish came out. In the meantime-- two groups that sat down after us both received their main dishes before us. The room was beautiful and clean-- the service piece was our only problem.

I booked this trip to Saugatuck kind of last minute, (1 week out). We happened to stay Monday and Tuesday night. The property is very easy to find, its just off the main road. We stayed in the Merlot room on the main floor. VERY comfortable, well worth every penny. The common room is large, and the innkeepers go out of their way to make sure you have everything at your fingertips.. coffee, soda, ice, hot cocoa, win glasses... whatever you need,, ladies...chocolate.... The grounds are very well maintained...lots of room, its not tight and cramped. They have a very nice pond and a fire pit and chairs out back... My husband and I took advantage of this one evening... They also have peddle bikes to use and beach chairs, towels and umbrellas. I appreciated the beach chairs etc... very nice to offer that... one thing I don't have to worry about packing. The breakfast was excellent! Each day is different. Fruit, some kind of speciality coffee cake, and a main dish. Again VERY GOOD. They do have a heated pool and lounge area, We just didn't have time to try it but others guests were taking advantage of the pool. Just like any B & B they are old and have thier own charm. When we were leaving I was able to take a peek upstairs at some of the rooms that were vacant... very charming... some of the rooms are small to medium size. I'm sure they are priced accordingly. Some of the other B & B's are right on the boardwalk and are very boxed in and do not have the yard etc.. that Twin Gables has. I would definately go back and recommend this to a friend.

Very nice, quaint Inn. Not too far from town. Stayed in loft room which was great for privacy. Hard to get right temp because over garage but, very, neat and clean. Loved the pool. Would go back. Didn't get to take advantage of breakfast because of schedule but, looked good.

Second time at TGI. Unfortunately, our first night and morning we were freezing because a/c was too low and we had virtually no way of controlling it. No facial tissue in our room. This was remedied with a simple request. The BR sink drained very slowly, which was not remedied, even with the request. Canned orange juice, Pillsbury cinnamon rolls from the can - hardly what I remembered from my last stay. Having said this, the room was simply beautiful, the dining venue gave us a wonderful view of the front lawn and the bird feeders (and a mounting storm over the lake which, while fierce, we enjoyed watching), we borrowed beach chairs and umbrella for a day at the beach which we also enjoyed, all the more because of the Inn's generosity! I signed a receipt on day one, but never got a copy!

We spent our anniversary at The Twin Gables in Saugatuck, MI and was pleasantly surprised. The Inn was very beautiful, quiet and peaceful. The breakfast's were wonderful, I loved the fresh fruit and coffee cakes every morning and the entree was delicious. We will definately stay again next time we are in Saugatuck.

Come down for coffee in morning, nice! Pillows were hard, and too many comforters/ blankets for the summer heat. Could use some washcloths in bathroom. Glad I brought shampoo & bar soap. Breakfast was terrific, several courses, patio view nice! The best note: Twin Gables Inn was able to put us in a room the same day I called, single night is fine.

Love Saugatuck Close to town to walk, everything was a close distance to drive to, beach, grocery store, restaurants.

I have been coming to Twin Gables for several years and have never had a bad experience. The reason for my meets expectations ratings is that they have always met my high expectations and continue to do so. Nice clean rooms, common area, pool and wonderful breakfast fare. Not to be missed when visiting Saugatuck/Douglas area.

Thought it would have been a little more up-to-date. Our room was really dark and the shades and curtains left a lot to be desired. The young lady who gave us our key and served breakfast the next morning, was very pleasant, but.... Overall, will not be returning.

My wife and I had a nice time staying at the Twin Gables Inn. It was a very comfortable and relaxed setting. We really appreciated the availability of beach chairs and umbrellas for our trip to the beach that the inn provided. Would definitely recommend it for anyone. Thanks!

We stayed for a girls weekend in one of the cottages and it was perfect! We could all be together and the kitchen was a bonus! The setting is perfect and close to the shopping. It is only 5 minutes from Oval Beach or you could swim in the pool at the Inn. The owners were so nice and the grounds were kept up great. We had so much fun in our little cottage! The Main Inn looked very nice too but the cottages are great for gatherings! Thanks for the memories!

The pool saved the day. Everything was ok, just ok. Our room was small and the floor had a serious slope that bothered me and my contractor husband. First course of breakfast was all sweet and next, undercooked breakfast casserole. Second day was a little better, nothing special. Enjoyed the pool and everything was adequate but there are a lot of options in town and I doubt we'll be back to Twin Gables.

The room and bathroom were lovely and large. The common area was beautiful and relaxing. We sat at a table in the front yard and read books and enjoyed the view of the water. The breakfasts were delicious. Chocolates and free snacks were always available. We will definitely return.

It was a nice place to stay. You could tell it's an old building, but kept nice and clean. Our room did have a musty smell. Breakfast was very good; however on our reservation it asked for any foods we didn't eat, which I listed beef/pork/onions and still was served those items unless I requested something else. The fruit salads and coffee cakes were GREAT! The main dish always contained eggs, so by the 4th day I was tired of eggs. Also with the egg dishes 2 of them contained eggs and often the substitution was plain scrambled eggs. It all tasted good I would just like more variety then eggs. Danielle and David were friendly and the inn had a nice book with things to do in the area. They also kept a dish of chocolate by the front door which was a nice treat.

We love this inn so much! We feel like family when we are there and fantasize about the food every day until we come back and eat it again!

We stayed in the Cabernet room and received a great deal for staying during the off-season. The meals were fantastic, the staff friendly and knowledgeable of the area. I would recommend another room- we were adjacent to the innkeeper's quarters and it had slightly less privacy than we were looking for. Overall, I highly recommend this b&b!

Danielle and David have always gone the extra mile for us when we pop in once a year for a night to celebrate our anniversary. This was our 5th visit and we plan to keep coming back(longer visits when the kids get older)! It's the off season, so we have plenty of privacy. The hot tub is relaxing and the common areas are wonderful to lounge and snack in. We've had "couples" massages in the past that were awesome. Plenty to do even if the weather isn't so great! Breakfast is always a special treat! A must visit destination!!

We have stayed many times in nearby South Haven, but never in Saugatuck. This was a true gem! The rooms were beautifully decorated and very well-maintained and we felt right at home. One item I will mention is that the showers are tiny. For a larger couple this would have been a challenge. The great room on the main floor is definitely a stand-out quality of this Inn. The only comment my fiance and I had was that we felt like the owners of the Inn are still "coming into their own" in terms of welcoming guests with "the gift of the gab". But they are wonderful cooks and breakfast was delightful each morning of our stay and hot coffee and chocolate were plentiful. The owner's sister also made excellent restaurant recommendations. We highly recommend "Everyday People" and "Wick Park" - they are truly fabulous. Order the tapas at "Everyday People" and the Fish Tacos at "Wick Park" and you cannot go wrong. We would definitely go back to stay at the Twin Gables. Great place!

This inn is lovely and very historical...and given we came at the start of winter, very comfortable largely due to the in-room gas fireplace! We were warmly welcomed us when we arrived and informed us that the innkeepers upgraded our room to a room with a king bed at no extra charge...which was much appreciated! Since it was Thanksgiving weekend and cold we weren't sure what to expect in Saugatuck, but it was lovely and we had a wonderful, romantic time there. Christmas lights lit the quaint downtown shops and breakfast was delicious both mornings. We would definitely stay there again sometime.

The package was described as a 'women's weekend' where there were spa treatments by professionals brought into the bed and breakfast to provide massages, facials and pedicures. The services were amazing and the food was remarkable! The town of Saugatuck is walkable and has many diverse shops. It was a fun weekend.

We had a wonderful first-time stay at this lovely inn. Our host was very friendly and a marvelous cook. We looked forward to breakfast as we were served with local, homemade food. Even the coffee, their own blend, was fabulous. Everything we needed for our stay, including restaurant menus, bicycles were available in the common room. It was a very interesting place to stay with a rich history. I highly recommend it.

great b&b. they serve breakfast to you (instead of a breakfast bar) which is a nice touch. the food they serve is excellent as well.

Twin Gables is in a lovely location with pleasant rooms and good service. My only complaint was that breakfast wasn't served until 9am which is late for those of us who get up early and want to get going. At least they could offer a continental breakfast earlier.

We only stayed for a night, but they had many extras like loaner bikes that would make staying longer very appealing.

This was my wife's and I first experience at a B & B, and we were very pleased. The staff was kind and provided information on what to do when in town. The breakfast was excellent! Three portion meal, provided by wait staff, with white linen cloth table settings. Very classy! The only drawback we found was that it was noisy with people moving throughout the house (when sleeping), but we figured as much considering the age of the home.

Twin Gables was a very nice place to stay in Saugatuck. It was considerably more affordable than other B&Bs. Breakfast was very tasty too. Kind and caring owners!

The Twin Gables Inn was everything it described itself to be and more: the staff members were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful, all of the guest rooms were neat, comfortable, and well furnished, and the food was simply delicious. It is very obvious that the innkeepers and employees work hard to see that their guests are well taken care of in every capacity, and take pride in their efforts. I truly enjoyed my stay, and if/when I return to Saugatuck, I will definitely plan to stay there again.

We had the most relaxing time for our mother/daughter get away. Having time away from three littles kids,the phone,computer and all the other interruptilons that are constantly around , gave us such a great time to reconnect. I did alot of searching for the right place to stay and with a recommendation from a reliable source and what I found on the internet, we got the right place. Everyone was so friendly, the food was delicious and our accommodations so comfortable and cozy. Thank you so much for everything. I hope we can be there again especially for one of your spa week-ends. We had a massage with Nancy and she told me she is a part of that and how wonderful that experience is. Barb

This was a return visit for us to the Twin Gables Inn. As such, we knew what to expect when we booked our reservations; and thus the "Met my expectations" ratings for service, value and cleanliness. The rooms and dining are outstanding. As is the pond, fire pit and garden area.

OK, from a man's perspective, we only go to B&B's because it's the choice of the woman in our life. Stayed in the Chenin Blanc room, nice and quiet end room but very small bathroom. The Beaujolais room was my first choice, but wasn't available. The Chardonnay or Bordeaux would be my second choices in the future with better views of the lake and larger bathrooms. Main floor common area was very nice, breakfast on the porch had a nice view and was very good with fresh fruit, a bread or muffin and an entree. Owners and staff were very nice and accommodating. Only a half mile walk into town. Great place, I would stay there again. And that's an endorsement coming from a man!

The Inn exceeded our expectations, maybe our best B&B experience to date. Easy to find, well located close enough to downtown to enjoy, just far away enough to be out of the din. We will return; maybe during the winter holidays, so we can enjoy the fireplace!

If your looking for a very quaint, peacful b&b you will love this place. It was very clean, and when you walk in the front door, it has beautiful old world charm. The bed was very comfy, and the room clean and quiet. Snacks to eat out all hours and drinks to buy with an honor system box. Very nice living room area to relax in, and a nice pool. A beautiful pond and fire pit to relax by as well and the birds!! We really enjoyed our stay there. I would go back anytime.

A fine Bed and Breakfast but this was our first one to stay at.Was surprised at the tilt of the room but for 150 years old I hope to be that way. The other guest were very pleasant and quite.

Arrived tired and hungry around 6 PM on August 20, 2009 after 18 holes of golf and 150 miles of driving. Had been in the room for all of ten minutes when I inadvertently FLUSHED MY CAR KEYS DOWN THE TOILET!!! After getting over my horror, I went downstairs to find our innkeeper, Michael, and asked him if maybe there wasn't a trap in the plumbing or some other way my keys could be retrieved, if indeed they weren't gone forever. Without hesitation, Michael came up to our room, assessed the situation, and headed off for some tools to REMOVE THE TOILET!! Well, after a stripped bolt and more trips for more tools, Michael got the toilet off and lo and behold, my car keys were lodged in the bottom straight part of the toilet drain that could only be accessed with the toilet removed. He then put the toilet back on and was gone in 20 minutes and REFUSED TO TAKE MONETARY COMPENSATION!! Needless to say, if we come back to Sagatauk, we'll come back to the TGI!!

We have stayed at Twin Gables several times and always have found it refreshing and relaxing. This is the perfect place to read and write. In season, the pool and garden are delightful. When we feel more active, we explore shops, marinas and restaurants around Saugatuck/Douglas. The Twin Gables’ Innkeepers and their family are very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are not to be missed: fruit, coffee cake and hot entré. If you want to be sociable, fine. If not, fine. The beautiful rooms vary from small to luxurious.
