  • Old time elegance reigns in this turn of the century Ludington home. Innkeepers Bill and Jane Carpenter invite you to experience their sensational breakfast and warm hospitality. Furnished with carefully chosen antiques and artwork within walking distance to town and Lake Michigan.
The careful craftsmanship of days gone by that is evident throughout our home is highlighted here in the oak staircase that is the central focal point of the foyer that leads out to the gazebo or into the dining room or guest parlor.
The Lamplighter's gazebo and patio make a great spot for enjoying your early morning coffee or a mid afternoon snack. It also makes an elegant place to eat your carry out fast food on those evenings when you don't want to go out to eat.
Our Wheaten Terrier, Magie waits patiently for the doorbell to ring. She doesn't shed and doesn't go in any guest rooms, but does feel it is her job to greet you (whitout barking) when you arrive.
Innkeepers Bill and Jane pause for a quick photo taken by guests just before breakfast is served.
Breakfast is a special event at the Lamplighter. Served on antique china with sparkling silver and crystal, you will be treated to fresh fruit, and freshly baked muffins or pastries with main dishes like peach caramelized french toast, potatoe crust quiche, strawberry crepes and sausage souffles. Whether you eat at 6:15 or 10:00, you will recieve the same sensational food, presentaion and service.
Beautiful and romantic, the Renoir Room gets its name from the great Impressionist painter, Pierre Auguste Renoir, who believed that art shoud first and foremost be beautiful. We think your time with us should be the same--elegant and lovely, with something to make you smile at every turn. One of the great joys of any B&B is that every room is unique--so visit our web site to see them all and choose the one that's right for you.
All rooms have private baths that are kept immaculately clean and disinfected between guests. Two rooms, the Renoir and the Monet (pictured here) have whirlpool tubs. All bathrooms are provided with shampoo, soap, drinking glasses and a hairdryer.
The May Cassatt Room is a cozy and economical choice for those who want a lovely place to lay their heads at night but plan on spending most of their time out and about.

    Wonderful stay at the Lamplighter!

    September 08, 2011

First off, Bill and Jane are the most amazing hosts. This was our very first time at a bed and breakfast and my husband and I felt welcomed right away. Maggie, a very sweet dog, also made us feel at home. Jane recommended some local restaurants for dinner and even made us a reservation while we were unloading the car! The medicine cabinet in our room had a lot of amenities (in case you forgot something) and the in-room bathroom shower had a shampoo and shower gel dispenser. Breakfast was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I am not a morning person, but I was really excited to wake up and eat breakfast! Every detail was beautiful and delicious. The china and silverware were so pretty. The portions were perfect, and filling. The coffee was so good. Everything about breakfast was delicious and awesome. I would come back and stay for the breakfast and warm hospitality :-)

    A traveler's welcome home

    July 31, 2011

The minute we walked through the door we were greeted by Bill and Jane, warm and engaging folks who made us feel like we had known them for years. The impeccably clean victorian home is like going back to a bygone era, but with a modern touch. We were pampered at every turn, with a delicious gourmet breakfast, conversation with fellow travelers and very interesting anecdotes about Bill and Jane's venture into the B&B world. The lamp light was on, it was warm, and we will be back. Bob & Jan Lupo

    Best weekend ever!

    June 27, 2011

My boyfriend and I scheduled a weekend away at the Lamplighters, not sure what to expect. It was completely charming in every way. Bill and Jane made us so comfortable, and the breakfasts were exquisite. We stayed in the Renoir room and delighted in every detail. My boyfriend actually proposed to me the first night of our trip on the beach at sunset, so the inn will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't wait to go back.
