Khardomah Lodge

Lots of charm, very homey...like having a family cottage at Lake Michigan without any of the hassle! Loved the decor and the old fashioned feel, like stepping back in time to a slower paced lifestyle. We will be going back for sure! I wish we had found this place years ago when our kids were younger, would have been a great family getaway place. Want to go back in the Fall season and enjoy a fire in the fireplace! We stayed mid-week and basically had the place to ourselves, so sharing a common bath was not an issue...I am sure it is busier on the weekends during peak season, but we truly enjoyed our stay. Very relaxing and in a beautiful subdivision too.

So charming and welcoming! Loved the whole atmosphere! Everyone was great and the location is fantastic. Enchanting lodge!

For the price, this place is fantastic. It doesn't play up the location enough--just a few steps and you see beautiful Lake Michigan. The beds were comfy, linens nice and soft, fridge convenient, and overall charming. The only feedback or drawbacks: The person who checked us in wasn't too friendly or informative. And we couldn't find a deck of cards in the place to save our lives. :) You can't vacation in MI without playing rummy or cribbage. :)

The rooms are small, everything is shabby chic, eclectic and old, but we loved the old feel and to use the whole house, including kitchen, dining area, and various sitting rooms. Clean bathrooms and an extra toilet room upstairs. The value is unbeatable. Just remember, you share a bathroom, and you share the other living spaces with other lodgers. In addition, please note that there are NO LOCKS on the door of your room... and the front door is always open during the day. We felt fine with that and trusted the area and the other people staying in the inn, but if you are one of those people that is anal about your space, you may wanna stay elsewhere. The only problem we had was that the daily service wasn't available. One of our rooms didn't have towels. They have a basket in the hallway for used towels and they say they will replace them with clean ones. That never happened, and because sometimes you have to call a number to find the person working at the time, making it difficult to just go downstairs and ask for extra towels, we ended up just taking towels from unused rooms. There was also a blood stain on our comforter... and someone in a different room said she found blood on her comforter, too. The sheets were very clean, the room was very clean, and the towels that were provided were good quality, clean, and smelled great. We're not picky. We usually end up at a crappy motel to save money and enjoy the atmosphere of our destination. For us, this was a delightful step up. We will come back. I loved the whole house, and I'm totally willing to get over the towel and blood stain. The manager was very friendly and gave us ideas on places to eat, too. This is not true bed and breakfast. They provide a full kitchen with every gadget and cooking source you can imagine, two large refrigerators, and free coffee (make it yourself in the kitchen) in the morning.

The hot tub suite was just what I needed for a productive and relaxing personal retreat. The rooms are immaculate, with all the amenities to "hole-up" and get work done. The bed cozy with soft sheets and gorgeous quilts. I brought a cooler with food and found everything I needed in the kitchen to have fabulous meals, Watching the deer with morning coffee, surprisingly starting and finishing a novel from the library, soaking in the hot tub during the snowstorm ...yes I 'll be back. We stayed in a suite. It was clean and comfortable. It was very relaxing and quiet. We had a gret time.

I went with my mom, sister in law and a friend. We went to get away for a week. It was great. We stayed in the Master Suite and had plenty of room and peace and quiet. Looking to go again - it was wonderful. We were also there during the Salmon Festival which was a lot of fun as well.

KL was a welcome retreat. The Master suite is huge with a stocked kitchens, whirlpool tub and shower. Suite itself was bit dated, appearing to have be "updated" in the mid-80s. Beds are in need of replacement. Great location, with lots of amenities, but missing the details that would make this a great establishment. KL only serves breakfast upon request (and for an additional fee). We did not eat breakfast here and cannot comment on it.

Sally is awesome! Great place to stay safe and clean! Walking distance to Lake Michigan and downtown we walked everywhere our stay was so good we went for a day trip and just went in to say Hi! We will try the Fall and winter months too!

We stayed in the Master Suite...great for families! It was so comfortable and spacious. We got groceries and ate in - saved money for other fun stuff! Sally was awesome and so helpful. We will definitely go back and have already recommended to others. Only a short walk to the beach - beautiful, clean, bar/restaurant right on the beach, short walk to the boardwalk, bike rentals, ice cream and snack shops - everything was very convenient.

We just stayed at this wonderful place. We were here for my sons wedding. We rented the entire place for the entire weekend. What a fantastic deal. True it was off-season pricing, but the weather cooperated! I was so impressed with the location and the affordability. They had everything we needed to create a fairy tale wedding for the bride, groom and all of their guests. Walking distance to the lake, the park and a short drive to downtown. The layout was perfect, we (grooms family) had the master suite and hot tub suite. There was more than enough room, and while the kids where upstairs partying (late) we could not even hear them! I highly recommend this historic lodge! If I could live there I would!!

A lovely home away from home. All the modern conveniences and such a cozy relaxing environment.

Great place for those who want to avoid the cookie-cutter hotel scene. Each bedroom unique in decor, public spaces open and airy, yet warm and inviting. Our group was about 30: singles, couples and families, ages 3 to 63. We cooked our own brunch, kitchen large enought to accomodate 3-4 cooks, and everything we needed was at hand; served in the spacious dining hall--large windows on 3 sides.

I took my girlfriend to their Master Suite for an overnight winter getaway. The room was beyond my expectations, and was even cozier and more spacious than it looked in the pictures. Not to mention the price made it more than worth it. We never even got to go out and enjoy the town, because we were too busy enjoying the room. It was like our own little cottage for the night with a full kitchen, living room with a fireplace and television, bedroom, and even a jacuzzi! I never got to meet Sally in person due to our circumstances, but I talked to her on the phone a few times and she was very nice and helpful. I plan on making a trip back to the lodge sometime in the summer.

If you are looking for a home-away-from-home experience but don't need a big beach house; like the comfort and charm of a B&B but not getting up at 8 am to eat with strangers; and the convenience of a hotel without hearing people's kids running up the halls at all hours of the night, this is the only place to lodge in GH. My spouse and I stayed in the spacious Hot Tub suite. The HTS is on a lower level surrounded by woods and feels very secluded. Hard to believe you are actually on a residential street. Linens/towels are refreshed as requested; otherwise the suites are not serviced during your stay (yes, you must wash your dishes and make your bed) but the innkeepers are not aloof nor are you on your own when something goes awry. We had a toilet problem that was repaired pronto. The beach is pretty much at the end of the street and down the stairs, and downtown proper is about 10 minutes by bike. There is also a trolley that goes up the dune but not back down, so if you choose to stroll downtown (and if you are a walker this is do-able) at least you can catch a ride back up. The main lodge is a turn of the 20th century house with typically small bedrooms and shared baths. If you want privacy you'll want to spring for a suite. The only other heads-up I would share is that the Lodge is located at the top of a dune with a steep set of sandy stairs back and forth from the HTS suite. Not a problem for us, but if you have bad knees or mobility issues consider yourselves warned. We investigated many properties before booking this place and after seeing where we could have been staying I'm glad we ended up at the Khardomah! We visited Aug 2010 (this is belated, sorry) and have submitted a reservation request for Aug 2011, hopefully this time we'll get to try out the Master Suite!

Always a pleasure to stay at Khardomah Lodge, especially with a group and renting a combination of suites and rooms. If you only plan to use the communal kitchen, you might want to bring any essential pots and pans, but most everything is provided. The wooded setting, a short walk to the Lake Michigan beach, is just great.

We were in the hot tub suite for a weekend, and it was amazing. The character and charm was perfect, and it was so easy to get to downtown for evening activities. The beach is in within walking distance, and you could not ask for a better deal/

Khardomah Lodge's location set in a wooded lot gave that cottage remote feel, yet the lodge's location to all that makes Grand Haven a great resort town, the beautiful beach, the great boardwalk, the marina and the quaint downtown area, was outstanding. Highly recommend this lodge if one dosen't mind sharing the lodge facilities with other guests.

This is a very charming and well-maintained lodge with tongue-and-groove paneling from floor to ceiling throughout. Chenille bedspreads and antique furniture in the rooms. It's extraordinarily quiet in the evenings and sharing a bathroom was really a minor inconvenience--probably more so on weekends when the lodge is full. But you cannot beat the price, short walk to the beach, and a great place to go if you want a peaceful, no-frills stay.

Our women's water polo team rented the lodge for a water polo tournament! We had a great time! The location was perfect, the rooms clean, the atmosphere welcoming and friendly. We will be back next year! Thanks Sally & Jack. You're the best!

My wife and I celebrated our 11th anniversary here in Grand Haven and really enjoyed our relaxing stay. We had been to the K.L. 7 years before. It was ironic that we were placed in the same room as before without even being asked, which was nice to rekindle good memories. We look forward to coming again. Thanks Sally & Pattie for the great room, service, value, cleanliness and dining experience. We truly needed this time!

Arrived at the Khardomah Lodge looking for a place to relax and getaway for the weekend and could'nt have picked a better place. We were greeted by Jack and Sally upon our arrival, and they helped us with all our questions about the lodge and town. Had a great time and will be sure to come back as soon as possible. Fantastic lodge and area!

This was an anniversary getaway. Wow, how wonderful it was. We chose the hot tub suite. Outdoors overlooking a wooded area with a deer and turkey path through it. The rooms are spacious and vintagy and cabiny. They have everything you need provided, (except personal care items of course). There was room for four in the hot tub, plenty of towels, a dining table and chairs for games and eating, a kitchenette and the bathroom has a clawfoot tub! Sally and Jack, the managers are outgoing and very helpful, and answer all your questions. We even got a tour with a history lesson too! What a gem! This is definitely someplace we'll return. The beach is walking distance, (it was Feb. when we visited), but saw the gorgeous pier and lighthouse. The town of Grand Haven has plenty of good restaurants, (good quality.) We recommend the Deelight for breakfast or lunch or both. Snug Harbor, and the Grand as well. Plenty of shopping even in the winter. You'll definitely enjoy it here!

When searching for a special place to hold a casual meeting, I was referred to the Khardomah Lodge. Gayle, the Khardomah Princess was very helpful and patient with accommodating our needs. She pointed us in a couple of good directions for food and helped me get setup for what turned out to be a very productive and well received event. Miss Emily (the Princess in waiting?) was another key to pulling this off and everyone enjoyed the extra treats she baked for us. In all, for a group of 10-12 people in the great room, this was one of our better meetings (held in different cities once every three months). If more room were needed, they could have easily accommodated that as well. Thank you Khardomah Lodge.
