My husband treated me to a birthday weekend getaway at the Palmer House and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect time. We were in the third floor suite and it was decorated in lodge style with a huge beautiful bed and lots of privacy. The rest of the house was decked out in Victorian antiques. We had fun just looking at everything in the house. We both had massages before we went to a wonderful restaurant in Marshall (Schuler's) to enjoy a special meal just for visitors to the Inn. Even the dessert was included and it was fantastic! We were also treated to a bottle of wine to cap off a perfect evening. Breakfast was great! We had Black Forest French Toast one morning and a yummy breakfast casserole the other morning. The house was such a surprise. Thanks for a memorable weekend!

    A wonderful Anniversary!

I was nervous to go here at first because of a review given by someone who stayed in the third floor suite and had nothing good to say about it. I was pleased to find out that they were completely wrong. The room was wonderful. It was way bigger than I ever thought it would be. We had a massage right in our room and the girl was awesome and very professional. Dinner was provided at Shulers in Marshall. The food choices were great. Breakfast was cooked for us in the morning and that also was great. The house is beautiful and the staff was helpful and nice. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

We were supposed to have the 3rd floor "suite" and it turned out to be an old musty smelling attic with old furniture and a curtain to separate the bathroom. It was a terrible firetrap. We were able to get 2 other rooms in the house once we refused to stay up there. The one room was OK but had no bathroom with a shower and the other one had a clawfoot tub 12inches from the bed that was all chipped and peeling, and if you bathed in it you would be bathing in debris. The house had some nice antiques but that was about it. It was dusty, our wastebaskets were not emptied out, and we had to go and look for our own towels. Plus there was newspaper scattered around in the sitting room. We did not even have coffee served with our breakfast! It was never made! And only one entrance to the house and that was through the kitchen! The front doors were locked! The "back yard" was all weedy with broken paving blocks, front porch chipped. Breakfast was fine other than no coffee. Where was our proprietor? He never came the entire weekend. Either he needs to run this place and give it his all, or stick to teaching. He can't do both.

    Innkeeper Response
I’m sorry to hear that you were not happy with your stay. I take all comments seriously & would like to address your concerns. Unfortunately we do not have an elevator & I understand that you & your friends could not easily navigate stairs, which is why I offered any other 2 rooms for your convenience. It’s true that the furniture in the B&B is old; in fact the entire house is decorated with Victorian era antiques, including the furniture, although the mattresses are not old. I’m confused about some of your comments because there are 4 rooms on the 2nd floor & 3 of those have showers & one has a tub with a hand-held shower. You & your guests chose the room with the tub & 1 of the rooms with a full shower. In addition, the house has multiple entrances & yes they are kept locked although anyone can open them from the inside. This is to prevent unauthorized persons from entering the home, ensuring my guests safety. The entrance with easiest access from the outside is the entrance on the side of the house & it does have access to the kitchen, but actually opens to the stairs leading to the 2nd floor. The other guests that day enjoyed coffee w/their breakfast, so I’m not sure if there was confusion about your desire for coffee or some other miscommunication, but I apologize for that. We would have been happy to prepare some for you. Coffee/tea/bottled water/hot chocolate are always available 24/7 at the table on the landing of the 2nd floor or in the kitchen. As for fire safety issues, I invited the fire chief in after your comments to be sure that there were no problems & none were found. I was not in town during your stay, but I entrusted your care to two reliable employees whose job it was to help your enjoy your visit. I was also available by phone 24 hrs. I hope that all of my guests enjoy their stay & work to resolve issues quickly & to the satisfaction of the guest.
