I brought my husband here for his birthday and the inn was amazing! Beautiful rooms, wonderful breakfast, and gorgeous view. The nearby towns were okay, cute downtown and great breweries/wineries around. We got the Vitner room which has a giant air jet tub - that paired with the giant comfy bed and beautiful view of the lake made us skip dinner and just stay in our room.

Wow. What a wonderful stay we had at the Painted Turtle Inn. The Moonlight Serenade was spacious, relaxing, and beautiful. We could have lied in bed all day, it was that comfortable!! Christine and Joel were such great hosts. My husband and I were most appreciative of the time they took to tell us about the area, as we are looking to relocate. I can't say enough good things about this lovely B&B, and high recommend anyone to stay here.

We had a one night stay at the Painted Turtle Inn in the Vitner's Retreat. It was very comfortable and luxurious! The room had great amenities...a TV, iPod docking station, DVD player, comfortable king size bed, and a huge bathroom with a whirlpool tub. There is a nice walking trail in the back of the property too. The Inn is close to the downtown St. Joseph shops and Silver Beach Park. The breakfast was so delicious!! You can tell that Christine and Joel care so much about their Inn and their guests. Every detail is taken care of. We had dinner at Bread+Bar and it was amazing! Also visited the bakery owned by the same people, Bit of Swiss, which had so many delicious treats. We definitely will return, hopefully for more than one night next time!

The Painted Turtle was so peaceful and quaint. We felt right at home and every detail was attended to. The breakfasts both mornings were excellent! We loved the area and the lookout over Lake Michigan-- just right across the street. It was a wonderful getaway!!

We stayed here for the ice festival and to celebrate our 13 year anniversary. The room was spectacular! Christine and Joel are great inn-keepers and are very accommodating. They had a reception for the guests that goes well beyond other B & B's. There was wine, cheese and crackers, nuts and a beautiful large gathering room to sit and talk or play games. The warmth of the fireplace was very cozy. We enjoyed spending time talking with them during this time. The room was downstairs and we were able to enjoy the sun set while sitting on the couch at the end of our king size very comfortable bed! The next morning we could enjoy some private time in our room with delicious coffee and hot tea before going to the breakfast room for a scrumptious breakfast! What a great cook Christine is! We will go back!

We found The Painted Turtle Inn online and chose it based upon reviews. It far exceeded even our high expectations! Beautiful, spacious rooms, spa quality baths, delicious food, wine and charcuterie by a roaring fire in the afternoon. Who could ask for more? Christine and Joel, the proprietors, are delightful and have created a very special spot. We've already made a return reservation for summer!

A friend and I used this as a getaway to celebrate our 10 yr friendship. We loved the closeness to Lake Michigan and the decor of the rooms. We would definitely recommend it to others.
The Moonlight Serenade Room, with its contemporary grey and white décor, is named in honor of St. Joseph being awarded Most Romantic City by the Detroit Free Press. The clean lines of this room provide a contemporary style room where you can sleep immersed in modern design. A king size bed and deep, air bath style tub are sure to provide all the creature comforts anyone could ask for. Be sure to catch glimpse of the sunset out the front window while you are dressing for dinner.
Nightly Rate: $250 - $300
The Dragonfly Room is a pastoral haven of comfort. Inspired by the gardens on the property which were the pride and joy of the original and only owner of this house, Mrs. Parr, this room overlooks the gardens and expansive meadow behind the house. The rustic style of this room will be softened with the earthy tones of its décor. This room features an invigorating spa-style shower, an inviting king size bed and several windows to enjoy the garden and lake views.
Nightly Rate: $200 - $275
The Dunegrass Room conveys the essence of the fabulous beaches of Lake Michigan from outside to inside. From the sandy colored walls to the pebbled floor of the shower, you will be transported to the Michigan shoreline just by entering the room. Relax in the freestanding air bath style tub before retreating to the plush king size bed. You may even be able to fall asleep to the waves of Lake Michigan lapping on the shore if you open the windows at bedtime.
Nightly Rate: $225 - $300
The Griffon Room is named for the first European-style sailing ship to sail Lake Michigan. The crisp blue and white color scheme shows off the original paneling nicely while complementing its nautical theme. A comfy queen size bed and a large air bath style tub make this cozy room one of the best appointed staterooms you will ever stay in. Be sure to check out all the maritime treasures of Southwest Michigan including the rotating train bridge that was built in the early 1900s and is still in use today.
Nightly Rate: $175 - $250
The Vintners Retreat is our most luxurious room and celebrates the abundance of vineyards and wineries in the area. Decorated in jewel tones, a king size bed, two-person air bath style tub and large picture windows overlooking the lake all make this our most coveted of rooms. Whether you are making your way around the Wine Trail or just visiting one or two tasting rooms, this room will confirm that you really are in wine country here in Southwest Michigan.
