The Painted Turtle Inn is a distinctive lodging facility located in St. Joseph, Michigan which opened in May 2013. Situated right on Lakeshore Drive, overlooking the bluff and with each room offering vantage points highlighting the lake, the Inn is known for its location, luxury accommodations and gourmet breakfasts. The home features a completely redesigned interior to ensure a clean, quiet and comfortable experience for our guests along with modern conveniences including fully updated private baths for each of our five guest rooms.
The Moonlight Serenade Room, with its contemporary grey and white décor, is named in honor of St. Joseph being awarded Michigan’s Most Romantic City by the Detroit Free Press. The clean lines of this room provide a contemporary style room where you can sleep immersed in modern design. A king size bed and deep, air bath style tub are sure to provide all the creature comforts anyone could ask for. Be sure to catch glimpse of the sunset out the front window while you are dressing for dinner.
The Dragonfly Room is a pastoral haven of comfort. Inspired by the gardens on the property which were the pride and joy of the original and only owner of this house, Mrs. Parr, this room overlooks the gardens and expansive meadow behind the house. The rustic style of this room will be softened with the earthy tones of its décor. This room features an invigorating spa-style shower, an inviting king size bed and several windows to enjoy the garden and lake views.
The Dunegrass Room conveys the essence of the fabulous beaches of Lake Michigan from outside to inside. From the sandy colored walls to the shower’s pebbled floor, you will be transported to the Michigan shoreline just by entering the room. Relax in the freestanding air bath style tub before retreating to the plush king size bed. You may even be able to fall asleep to the waves of Lake Michigan lapping on the shore if you open the windows at bedtime.
The Griffon Room is named for the first European-style sailing ship to sail Lake Michigan. The crisp blue and white color scheme shows off the room’s original paneling nicely while complementing its nautical theme. A comfy queen size bed and a large air bath style tub make this cozy room one of the best appointed staterooms you’ll ever stay in. Be sure to check out all the maritime treasures of Southwest Michigan including the rotating train bridge that was built in the early 1900’s and is still in use today.
The Vintner’s Retreat is our most luxurious room and celebrates the abundance of vineyards and wineries in the area. Decorated in jewel tones, a king size bed, two-person air bath style tub and large picture windows overlooking the lake all make this our most coveted of rooms. Whether you are making your way around the Wine Trail or just visiting one or two tasting rooms, this room will confirm that you really are in wine country here in Southwest Michigan.

We are repeat guests -- one of the first to stay at the Turtle. Suffice it to say, we will be back. Christine and Joel run a great place. It can be a little hard to find on a GPS. Make certain to use "St. Joseph" as the location city as the street numbers will restart at the municipal boundary with Benton Harbor. The rooms are nicely done and the bathrooms are lovely and efficiently laid out. The setting may seem a little busy but its along a coastal highway. Traffic is not heavy and its still very quiet.

My mother and I had a great shopping weekend. This was my mother's second stay at the Painted Turtle and just had to take me there because she loved it so much. It is a beautiful house and grounds.

Everything about the Painted Turtle is a reflection of Christine and Joel; warm, welcoming and every detail just right. We altered our reservation a few times and Christine was very happy to help us. I also have special dietary needs and she delisously accomindated me. She even got up early to fix breakfast so we could get on the road. However, we were having such a great time visiting with Christine and Joel time got away from us and we didn't leave early.

The Painted Turtle Inn was outstanding! The owners are very hospitable and have done an excellent job in renovating this home and turning it into a spectacular B & B. The breakfast was exquisite and having the green space in the back of the house allows you to enjoy a cup of coffee in a country setting feel, although you are only 10 minutes (or less) from town. The park across the street allows you to enjoy the beautiful Michigan sunsets and views of the lake. We were thoroughly impressed with the inn and had a great first experience at a B & B. Joel and Christine have set the bar high. There was no detail left unattended to and the turtle soap was adorable!

My longtime girlfriends & I had such a wonderful time staying at "Painted Turtle Inn" recently. The atmosphere was very welcoming and cozy; the rooms are decorated so tastefully (each room has its own theme & design), the whole place is beautiful, clean and very well kept. It is a great location with scenic views and the lake right across the street (we walked there to watch the sunset). We felt very comfortable hanging out in the common area at night, as if it was one of our homes. And the breakfast next morning... delicious!
