Best getaway

Thanks to Bill and Mark for being such awesome innkeepers. Breakfast is amazing especially when there are sticky buns....we spend a lot of time on the west coast of Michigan and We would never stay anywhere else...LOVE THE SOUTHCLIFF INN.

Breakfast could use less sugar

The inn itself was pleasant enough to stay for a weekend. Close to the lake and the view is great. Inn keeper and the staff I interacted with were all warm and friendly. One thing I wish they had done differently was the breakfast dishes. For some reason, they offer you a lot of casserole type dessert dishes with tons of sugar and grease in them. There were pudding, coffee cake (though I honestly didn't find much coffee taste in it), and one or two others that were equally or even more extremely sweet. I was really surprised because I expected to see more typical (and presumably healthier) American breakfast options, like pancakes, bacon, eggs, cereal, oatmeal, etc. I did appreciate the trouble they went into for the hot breakfast dishes, but frankly, who need so much sugar to start a day? One person in my party is diabetic too and he had to skip all those hot dishes and went with coffee and toast every morning. The inn keeper didn't seem to have a mind of changing the menu either. For the three days I was there, same or at least very similar casseroles were offered every morning. I probably wouldn't return to this place in the future unless I know they adopt a more modern, health-conscious approach to their breakfast. After all, breakfast is an integral key element to every "Bed & Breakfast" establishment, second only to "bed", isn't it? I believe it deserves a more thoughtful handling.

This is our new getaway place!

My husband and I booked the Admiral Suite to get away for a few days. What a pleasant suprise, the Innkeeper was so nice. The place has such a relaxing vibe and the breakfast spread is to die for. We gazed at Lake Michigan while we ate, made use of the two huge decks to enjoy the view. The rooms decor was fantastic and the bed was super comfy. You will not regret booking a room here. AMAZING!!

My favorite!

This was our first time to St. Joe and we could have not picked a better place to stay. Bill was the perfect host helping us with site seeing suggestions, providing a cozy atmosphere and wonderful stay. The breakfast was fantastic with each day providing us with something new and tasty to eat. The afternoon wine and cheese was an added surprise. It gave us an opportunity to meet the other guest and share information of the town and surrounding area that each of us had discovered. Cannot wait to make our next trip. Thanks Bill for the wonderful stay.

Wonderful place to spend the night

My husband and I have stayed here three times now, in two different rooms. We love the ambiance, the lake views and the amazing breakfasts. The afternoon wine and cheese is a great way to meet other guests, especially when it is warm enough to wander down to the deck by the water. St Joe is a fun little town with a great beach. Enjoy, we did.

I travel to St. Joseph quite a bit for work and....

this is by far the best lodging in town. Beautiful views of the lake and fantastic breakfast. A complimentary wine and cheese hour is a nice touch.
