The 1720 House

We were very pleased with this property. Our stay was truly enhanced by the interesting and helpful Abby and her associate. They served a good continenttal breakfast and even kept the dining room open 30 minutes after breakfast was officially over. The rooms are comfortable and well decorated and the location is perfectly located near the town and beach. It's cozy in the fall and the public areas are great to sit in and speak with the other guests. It is a wonderful place for small family reunion

If it were Valentine's Day I'd send flowers as a thank you for a wonderful stay. Four days are not enough. They found us interesting places to go, were kind and gracious to us and made us feel really welcome.

I spent 5 days at The 1720 House and loved being there. The owner and her staff are all so willing to do everything to make guests happy and comfortable. The continental breakfast is delicious. The property has great charm.The 1720 House attracts a very interesting and intelligent group of people. One night the owner invited me to join a few of her friends for drinks and wonderful food. They were able to tell me about the "inside" things to do on the island. I can't wit to go again. Lots to do in the Fall.

Abby Hirsch's B&B 1720 House, is a fantastic, charming deal, with a great garden, an unbelievably beautiful giant tree, porch and good natured service. The place is immaculate, with great tips on what's doing, where to eat, shop and laze. I stayed for a week, just to get away and I could not have been more cared for, left to my own devices when appropriate and helped out over and above standard service. Plus, I came without a car, walked from the ferry, walked to town (5 minutes), bus (great island-wide service) and used a cab a couple of times in the evening. The price was right, with a nice rate based on the length of my stay.

Jill and Abby were fantastic hosts. They went above and beyond, out of their way to make our comfort. We couldn't have asked for a better location! Seems like fantastic spot to hold a wedding or have a lovely family gathering up on the Vineyard.

Not having been to the Vineyard in quite a long time I was looking forward to our trip with some trepidation. But as soon as I got to the 1720 house all my fears were gone. Here is a perfect historic residence just minutes from the heart of Vineyard Haven, gorgeously restored and with exquisitely comfortable rooms. We stayed in the Blue Room, and though small it was perfect for our needs. Abby, the owner, is a true New York woman with a searing sense of humour and always quick with a smile. She made us feel right at home. Jill, the manager, always made sure we were properly fed, both in the morning and in the afternoon for tea. We were served fresh orange juice, bagels that had been baked that morning, and jams from on-island. In the afternoon we were able to help ourselves to ice tea, lemonade, and either cookies or scones. With a porch for relaxing during the mornings and couches for resting before bed, the 1720 House is warm, inviting, and absolutely a treasure.

The 1720 House on Martha's Vineyard is a lovely historic property a short walk from town and beach. What makes the Inn so special is the gracious service we experienced whilke spending 5 days there. Continental breakfast was nicely served and everything was organic, fresh and appealing. The coffee was of a great quality as were the fruits, muffins and island crafted bagel. The owner made sure we knew what was happening on the island that was interesting and where the best bike trails were. Afternoon conversation was interesting. A lot of accomplished people stay there and the atmosphere is conducive to intelligent dialogue. PERFECT PERFECT PLACE

We absolutely loved staying at the B&B, so great to be a 2 minute walk off the ferry, be greeting by afternoon cookies and tea, and sleep in the cozy big fluffy bed! I would go back in a heartbeat! The owner Abby is quite the hostess with such stories! Very fun weekend with my new boyfriend, he was impressed!

We treated our family to a weekend outing at The 1720 House. The property is immaculate. It has been authectically renovated to preserve the historic details while creating contemporary amenities for fussy people like ourselves. Nature walks and a tour of the island were arranged for us and the hot teas and treats in the afternoon were much appreciated. We think anyone staying at The 1720 House will be please. We were.

We first stayed at The 1720 House in 2001 and loved it then. When we wanted to celebrate our anniversary this Thanksgiving, we contacted the owner. She told us that the property would be closed , but when we stressed how special it would be for us, she agreed to come up from her home in New York to accommodate us. It is now, as it was years ago, one of the most gracious places to stay. We were so grateful for such attention to small details; flowers and a card in our room, chocolate truffles and port wine, that we wanted to share our praise with anyone thinking of staying there. Not everyone wants to visit an island in March. The weather can be iffy,chilly or you can be lucky with sun and no crowds. Our stay at The 1720 House was perfection. Nice, fluffy comforters in the beds, cashmere wraps on sofas and chairs. An abundance of tasty teas and hot chocolates and cakes brought to us. We want to share our secret: Lovely to be at The 1720 House off season.

We are thankful that we chose the 1720 House for our first visit to Martha's Vineyard. The owner was thoughtful and attentive to all the details that make one feel comfortable, including telling us about the many special places to see on the island that we might not have found on our own. The Inn is immaculate and cozy. It's tops for price value, much nicer than a lot of more expensive places

A unique and beautiful historic property. Exceptionally clean and good looking rooms. The owner goes way out of her way to make guests happy, cared about and comfortable and the location is perfect; close to beach and town. Would highly suggest staying there

I have been in the hospitality industry for over thirty years and am very particular when I travel. I had the good fortune to visit Martha's Vineyard and stay of The 1720 House. I ususally don't stay and bed and breakfasts since we've found that a lot of Innkeepers can be overbearing, too talky and do not know when to give a guest enough space to relax. The Innkeeper seemed to sense when we needed help and that extra something to make our time there fully enjoyable. The Inn is a short walk to the shops and the beach and ferry but set back and private enough to give it a remote feeling. The grounds have beautiful foliage and trees and outdoor tables and chairs. It's ideal for just about any traveler.

My son booked rooms at the beautiful 1720 House for his wedding. The owner arranged everything from the caterer to the flowers. She met with my son and his finance in New York and helped design the invitations and announcements and found a Rabbi on the island to marry them. She wrote and submitted the announcement to The New York Times. The ceremony took place under the oldest and tallest Beech tree on the island. An hour before the wedding our photographer cancelled. Abby convinced a friend of hers to shoot the event.. The photos were superb . Forget high priced wedding planners, the owner was better than any other my family has used. My son is a writer and so is she, which gave them a lot in common. One note - a good continental breakfast is served, but the accomodations don't include full service meals.
