3.2 out of 5Great Vacation in Salem
August 08, 2012
My son and I stayed at the Salem in with our dog. We had a great time, the parking is at another location, however since Salem is a walking town it was no inconvenience to walk, really it was just around the corner. The room was very clean, the staff was very good about the dog in the room, very respectful. The Inn is in a very good location inn the heart of the historic district and just around the corner from the walking mall and all of the museums. It is very old and very charming. The breakfast was good, we were very pleased with our stay at the Salem Inn.
3.6 out of 5Our July 4 - 6 Stay at the The Salem Inn
July 07, 2012
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Corwin House for the 4th of July and although it was charming, we did have a few complaints. When I booked the reservation on price-line, it said we would have a fireplace. We did not. I really was looking forward to a room with a fire place. Also, the bed was very, very uncomfortable, kind of sagging down. Definitely needed a new mattress. We also were concerned that everyone had the same key to the front door and the room itself but we were told when we were leaving that wasn't the case so that made us feel better.n Im hoping she wasn't just saying that because it seems odd that everyone can get in the front door and their room with the same key like everyone else. Also, the girl at the front desk was not at all familiar with the area. When we arrived I had some questions regarding the area and she said she had just moved here and be familiar with it. That's fine but if you are going to put someone at the front desk, I feel she should know the area. On the positive side, we thought the place was charming and we enjoyed the quietness, the sherry and housekeeping was very good. We would rather stay here then in the center where there is too much noise. If we were to come back, I would want a room with a fireplace and not on the third floor. Quite a hull if you have a lot of luggage. One last thing, breakfast. Really thought it would be a little bit more heartier as advertised but the coffee was good and we loved the garden area. We also are smokers and enjoyed that it had a back garden area to sit and smoke. That was a plus and parking was a plus too. It is in back of the house and we didn't use it for the whole stay there because everything was walking distance. Would we stay here again? Absolutely! It was worth the money and the quietness but again, I would like what I asked for (fireplace).

My husband and I (both 20-somethings) spent a weekend getaway at Salem Inn, and we had a blast! We booked a honeymoon suite with champagne and roses, our room was cozy and had that historical charm we love. It's location is great and easy walking distance to everything. Would totally recommend!

4.4 out of 5Best Stop on Our Trip
May 07, 2009
I forgot to write in the guest book, and so just want to say "thanks" for the wonderful stay at the Salem Inn. In Dec., my husband and I spent a night in the Honeymoon Suite for our fifth anniversary. The Salem Inn is a wonderful bed and breakfast, and our room was amazing: the comfortable queen bed, the fireplace, and the whirlpool bath. We loved the champagne, chocolates, sherry, roses and continental breakfast. The friendly, courteous staff made us feel very much at home, a welcome change of pace from the hustle, bustle of Chicago. Salem, the little city with a big history, feels a bit like Halloween every day. We enjoyed every experience at the Salem Inn and will definitely return again.
1.6 out of 5Don't waster your time or money!!!
August 25, 2008
We stayed at the Capt. West House, it had Plain walls with old, outdated pictures,1 was even falling out of the frame, and dumpy curtains and old dingy bedspread. Floor was nice old wood, but dirty! NO DIRECT PARKING FOR INN! You must park block away and walk over uneven pavement with your suitcases...you won't even know where to park when you get there, be warned! Call and ask front desk and you will get a very rude reply! There is a very small spot next to Inn you can use to check in, that is unless the employees are parked there all day....then you have to back out onto a BUSY stree! The girl who checked us in had tattoos all over her arms and wore a white tank top, unprofessional. Breakfast was OK, simple continental style but NOTHING fancy, quiche was frozen and plastic tasting.. Our room cost $200 but it felt like a Motel 6, I would never stay here again!
3.2 out of 5Nice room but Staff too young and loud
March 09, 2008
My husband and I stayed here 03/2007. The room was nice and the fireplace cozy but the 20 something staff was extremely loud. The girls were loud, chatting on their cell phones, and seemed as if they were bothered if you had a question. The breakfast room was located in the main house's basement. The food was nothing to speak of.

The town may be about witches and spooky things but this place is not. It is a lovely top of the line b&b. We will visit again. Try it. You will be glad you did. Signed, The 3 Travelers
