My husband and I (both 20-somethings) spent a weekend getaway at Salem Inn, and we had a blast! We booked a honeymoon suite with champagne and roses, our room was cozy and had that historical charm we love. It's location is great and easy walking distance to everything. Would totally recommend!

We stayed at the Captain West House. very nice room, friendly, courteous staff. Nice breakfast in the morning. Parking found just as described by staff, easy to find. All attractions are just a short walk away. Can't wait to stay there again...

I forgot to write in the guest book, and so just want to say "thanks" for the wonderful stay at the Salem Inn. In Dec., my husband and I spent a night in the Honeymoon Suite for our fifth anniversary. The Salem Inn is a wonderful bed and breakfast, and our room was amazing: the comfortable queen bed, the fireplace, and the whirlpool bath. We loved the champagne, chocolates, sherry, roses and continental breakfast. The friendly, courteous staff made us feel very much at home, a welcome change of pace from the hustle, bustle of Chicago. Salem, the little city with a big history, feels a bit like Halloween every day. We enjoyed every experience at the Salem Inn and will definitely return again.

We stayed at the Capt. West House, it had Plain walls with old, outdated pictures,1 was even falling out of the frame, and dumpy curtains and old dingy bedspread. Floor was nice old wood, but dirty! NO DIRECT PARKING FOR INN! You must park block away and walk over uneven pavement with your suitcases...you won't even know where to park when you get there, be warned! Call and ask front desk and you will get a very rude reply! There is a very small spot next to Inn you can use to check in, that is unless the employees are parked there all day....then you have to back out onto a BUSY stree! The girl who checked us in had tattoos all over her arms and wore a white tank top, unprofessional. Breakfast was OK, simple continental style but NOTHING fancy, quiche was frozen and plastic tasting.. Our room cost $200 but it felt like a Motel 6, I would never stay here again!

Nice room but Staff too young and loud

My husband and I stayed here 03/2007. The room was nice and the fireplace cozy but the 20 something staff was extremely loud. The girls were loud, chatting on their cell phones, and seemed as if they were bothered if you had a question. The breakfast room was located in the main house's basement. The food was nothing to speak of.
