Beautiful and relaxing stay at Seaward Inn in Rockport. Room very clean, amazing location directly overlooking ocean, delicious full breakfast and very frienly staff. Easy walk to town...we will be back!

Recently, my husband and I stayed at Seaward Inn for our anniversary weekend. It was clean, quiet, beautifully landscaped and in a great location - on the water. A lovely breakfast was served each morning and around 4:00pm drinks and a light snack were available. The inn is well kept for its age and charming. I would definitely recommend staying there!

The Seward inn was perfect! Thanks to Nancy, Lee and Joe who couldn't have made our stay any better. Their hospitality was non stop. We will definitely be returning.

Good location on the shore, about 20 minutes walk along the cliff from the centre of Rockport. Friendly welcome, nice breakfast, and helpful staff. Thank you.

Lovely place to stay. I had hurt my back, they had given me ice packs. They were friendly & kind.

We had High hopes but when arriving we have realized we have made BIG mistake . this place is in bad shape ! defiantly does not worth 190$ a night. the first room we have got (201) reminded me the days I was traveling in the Fareast with a bag pack and looking for rooms with 10$ in my pocket ...... (smell of mold , wallpapers that are having stains , stains on the carpet …) after complaining we have got new room which was slightly better but defiantly not as expected . the frustration was even greater when we took a walk around and saw the other options available for the same cost ... so if you ask me , skip this Inn and ‘knock’ on their neighbors websites ...

I am sorry to hear of your disappointment with the Seaward Inn. We hate to have anyone go away unhappy. The front desk clerk had actually brought your concerns regarding the first room to my attention. He had offered you an upgrade unaware you had used the room and bed to such an extent it had to be completely re-serviced. I am curious why you went ahead and used the room/bed if it was so intolerable? After being given an upgrade to a lovely ocean view room, at no additional cost, I was dismayed and VERY disappointed you would continue to feel it necessary to malign our lovely Seaward Inn. It can be quite damaging to a business. However, when a review lacks balance, honesty and is amongst an array of glowing reviews, most readers can deduce where the real problem lies. As a matter of fact, we have no rooms that cost $190.00. The room you were upgraded to has been a favorite of many celebrities who frequent the Inn. Yes, it is an older building and there is a small water stain on the wallpaper in that room. Unfortunately when a guest spills something which stains a rug during our short season (May to October) there is little we can do about it. Next time you write a review, you might want to take note of the lovely environment, friendly staff, cleanliness, scrumptious breakfasts and other delights, as so many visitors of the Seaward Inn have done since 1945.

Our stay at the Seaward Inn was excellent! Everything fell into place. The Seaward Inn is close enough to town to walk or make a short drive. But it is also far enough to not have cars driving by all night. While I hoped for a larger room (I can't shake the feeling that the picture of 'my room' wasn't 'my room'), there was so much to do in Rockport that we really didn't use the room for much except a base of operations. And for full disclosure, we were travelling with a six-month old who nearly required his own Sherpa. The value of the Seaward Inn is what really puts it into another category. Typically, I don't judge hotels based on cost. It's often misleading: the same hotel in New York, Nebraska and Virginia Beach can be three radically different prices. But for under $200/night, the Seaward is one of the best values I've ever encountered and I've travelled cross-country three times. I had a great stay and would recommend it to anyone- small family, honeymooners, retired couple, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I'm not sure how the room confusion happened but, for future reference, our Spruce Cottage or rooms 205 and 206 on the website are favorite "family friendly" rooms which offer the parents a little privacy. Hope to see you again next year!

We came to the B & B for a wedding. It was our first time staying there. The location was beautiful and relaxing. The home made breakfasts were like home.

Nice little Inn in quiet neighborhood. Very friendly helpful staff. Clean but dated rooms.Pretty views from many rooms. Great location, walk to small beach and town. Nice area to walk around with not too many cars traveling through. Very limited food availability, a tad more than a continental breakfast. Cookies and tea (iced and hot) left out by the kitchen at tea time was a nice touch. The home made scones are wonderful, but were only served once during a week long visit.

Our homemade scones are unbelievable! I'm sorry you only saw them once during your visit. Did you have a chance to try my zucchini bread, fresh from the garden? Every day we have one hot protein item (usually an egg dish) as well as fresh fruit, organic granola, breads, and a variety of cereals (more since your visit). Also juices, teas and sometimes surprises such as a salmon spread for bagels. I fear the buffet may have been depleted when you arrived as there is ample breakfast to be had. Sometimes after a rush of guests, it can look less substantial until it is replenished. Next time, please don't be shy. Let the staff know of your concerns. We are hear to make your vacation as wonderful as possible. Hope to see you again next year!

Seward Inn location was perfect and our room was comfortable with view as described.. Breakfast was okay, but expected better from all the reviews. All staff was friendly and helpful.

Thank you for the review. I seem to have a 50/50 response to our new breakfast. Returning guests understandably miss the full service and varied menu we had last year. Newer guests are wowed by our continental plus breakfast described in the above review response. It was a tough business decision but the alternative would have been to substantially increase room rates. I was sure I couldn't wow anyone with that decision. Hope to see you again next season!

I was truly impressed with my stay at the Seaward Inn. This is a small, family run hotel in the traditional New England sense. The location is beautiful and a nice walk from Rockport proper. My room was clean and charming, without being cloying. We'll be back next year!

This is a laid back place. Don't come here if you want the latest in everything. If you want an inn with comfortable basics (fridge, tv, cable, private bath), a breathtaking ocean view, and nice down to earth staff who don't turn tricks but leave you alone while making you feel at home, then this is the place. Curl up with a book on the porch, sit and watch the sun set, listen to live music at Sunday brunch... It's a walk to town, there's a nice cliff walk, and swimming for adults. Leave the kids and dogs! This is for adults who want an escape. Not so far, but far enough from the madding crowd of Rockport.

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights and I wish it could have been more! What a wonderful place! Great view, great food, wonderful service! Could not have asked for more!

The view was outstanding! The rooms and grounds are well kept. The staff was incredible always aiming to please. We went for our 28th wedding anniversary and had a great time!

It is true you pay for a view, but what a great view we had from our room. You can pay less for nearby inns without an ocean view, but this is what we wanted and are glad we made the choice. Being there midweek, there were few other guests as compared to the busy weekend they had approaching, but this what we wanted - a quiet, private, and peaceful getaway. Breakfast was excellent. The staff was friendly. We came away relaxed and refreshed. We will certainly consider a return trip.

My partner and I stayed at the Seaward Inn last year for five nights. We loved it so much we returned this year June 5-9. This time we brought along my partners parents. They too were extremely happy with their stay. The Inn is clean and quiet, the breakfast is delicious, and the view is breathtaking. The walk to Bear Skin Neck is an easy one whether you choose to take the garden path along the ocean or just walk the streets to town through the neighborhood. Rockport is close to everything. We flew into Boston and drove directly to Rockport (about an hour drive if you don't stop along the way). Glouscester, Salem, Ipswich, Essex, Marblehead, among other interesting towns are all close by and easy drives from the Inn. We even drove up to Maine one afternoon to visit Kennebunkport! The staff at the Seaward Inn is extremely accomodating and friendly. Once again we came home to share our photos with our friends and brag about our stay at the Seaward Inn. I stayed at the inn for two nights and hosted my wedding there on Saturday morning. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the rooms and views are gorgeous, and the food was wonderful. I couldn't have asked for a nicer stay.

Every one was so friendly and helpful as to what was available in Rockport since we had not been to Rockport for a few years. We had an ocean view room and watch a beautiful sunset. Our room was spotless. The breakfast was fabulous especially the homemade scones. We were there when they had a special for the first three weeks in May so it was very reasonable. Would definitely stay at Seaward Inn again

This was the perfect place for a getaway weekend. Out room was large, clean, and offered a great view of the gardens. The inn sits on aa ocean bluff with great views of the coastline and the rising sun. Only a short walk to Rockport Center and the harbor. Staff friendly and professional. Breakfasts were excellent

We were there after the Inn had closed for the season, therefore the dining room was closed. However, everything else was great. Nice room, very clean and large and well accommodated. We would defineately stay there again.

I could not find my confirmation # for my stay here so I called the Seaward Inn. Luckily they had availability...but not for the room I thought I had booked. I believe his name was Neil who helped me when I called. He was able to give me another room at the last minute for what I would have originally paid. He was so nice on the phone. Me & my friend were on a pretty tight vacation schedule & were happy to know we could still stay in the Rockport area. We actually met Neil (I hope I have his name correct) at breakfast. He was very personable. The room, view, breakfast & staff were wonderful. The lady who checked us in & out was very sweet and I can't remember her name!! We had a great experience and will share that with our friends back in Texas!!!

We loved the location of the Inn-right on the rocks overlooking the harbor! There were benches and chairs arranged for guests to relax and contemplate the beauty of the ocean. Breakfast was a treat and the hosts and staff were very warm and helpful. The atmosphere felt like it was geared towards a more senior crowd (except that there were steep steps to the rooms) but we enjoyed it even as "middle-agers" and would definitely return.

The view from our room was outstanding. We could see the ocean from our bed.

First time at a bed and breakfast and I couldn't imagine a nicer stay any where else. Very friendly staff, great food, quiet and relaxing visit with awesome views. Great place to celebrate an anniversary.

My husband and I stayed with our 2-year-old in room 102 (thatcher island room) for four nights and had a great experience. The staff were friendly and helpful and the grounds/inn are charming and unpretentious with a spectacular view of the ocean. I would definitely return.

The Seaward Inn staff greets you warmly when you arrive, when you seek info, when you come down for breakfast, and when you depart. Lots of comfortable space in dining room, living room with piano, and bedrooms all with wide-open views to the ocean. Located in a quiet, scenic neighborhood with an ocean-side foot-path to town. Best breakfast. Very alluring for return visits.

The Seaward Inn has an extraordinary view of the Atlantic from its public areas, and the buffet breakfast was generous and pleasing. The room was, however, quite rundown and hadn't been renovated in at least a few decades. Given the price of a stay, we were expecting something more upscale. If the owners would invest in some upkeep, the place could really be special.

Our stay at Seaward Inn was a four day stay. Our room was very clean and pleasant. The inn is older but charming and is totally relaxing. Breakfast was buffet each day ~ which offered everything that we could want. I will go back!

Room was very noisy, by the vents and fans of kitchen. If I had a different room I would stay again because everything else was wonderful... People were awesome!

Third floor attic room was charming in old-fashioned way. AC worked and was relatively quiet. Also nice big window. WIFI was very iffy up in the room. Better downstairs in the common area. Ocean view beautiful and breeze relieved. Pay attention when reserving room to note "garden view" meant just that, not ocean view. Staff at front desk and servers at breakfast were friendly.

I really enjoyed this B&B. The rooms were clean, the service was excellent, and the view was beautiful. I would very much recommend this bed and breakfast and I hope to stay there again.

This Inn is in a beautiful location, right by the ocean. However, for the price, the room was more like a camp cabin with out of date amenities. Cleanliness was barely tolerable-way too dusty and the screens had holes, letting in insects. We arrived in a heat wave, and received appologies that no one had had a chance to open the room and turn on the air conditioning, so we found ourselved in a stiffling hot room. Breakfast was acceptable, but we paid less for rooms in nicer inns on the Cape and in Maine on our trip.

I'm so sorry that you were disappointed with your stay, and must say that I am surprised by some of your comments. One of the things we are regularly noted for is our cleanliness, If you notified us at the time we would have been more than glad to re-clean the room. Regarding the air conditioning I apologize, it is our policy to turn on the AC prior to a guests arrival, especially during a heat wave like the one we experienced during your stay. In terms of price, I personally know that you will not find a two-room cabin with three beds, stove, refrigerator, DirecTV, and Wi-Fi with an ocean view for any less (and usually much more) within a mile of downtown Rockport. Once again, I am sorry that you had a marginal experience and hope that you will give us another chance to make things right.

We had an enjoyable stay in Rockport at the Seaward Inn. It become quickly clear why so many return to this place about a mile out of town via the costal garden paths which we walked many times to avoid the parking in town. Breakfast, music on Sunday, and evening snacks after music at the Shalin Liu performance center made for a wonderful weekend. The AC was a little weak for the heat we experienced, but there is usually a fine breeze that make the AC unnecessary.

I often take the path into town as well to avoid the parking hassle, and truthfully, while I don't always feel up to the 15 minute walk, by the time I get back I'm so glad that I did. It's just so refreshing, mentally and physically.

Looking out the window as the sun rose over the sea made the day. Fresh breakfast, served promptly, so we could get on the road to see the sights. Great location, a short drive from the shops and galleries at Rockport. Service was perhaps the best I've ever had, which is best measured when a problem arises. In this case the toilet water closet started leaking just as we arrived. Instant help and service. When it couldn't be fixed that day, we were upgraded to a new room. The Seaward Inn had a most knowledgeable and helpful staff, leading us to the best spots along the shore and in town.

My Father, Roger T. Cameron, knew precisely what he was doing when he choose the location for the inn back in 1935. Our location on Marmion Way is the perfect distance from Downtown Rockport to be quaint and convenient simultaneously.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave us tips on where to eat and a beautiful local walk. Great location!

One of my favorite things about Cape Ann is the inclusion of a number of public ocean side walking paths. The inn is lucky to have one of these only a half block away which takes you all the way to Downtown Rockport, just under a mile away.

We stayed in a separate building from the actual inn; it was a short but pleasant walk from the registration area. The room was good-sized, comfy and quiet, if a bit rustic(knotty pine walls). We had the Sunday buffet, which was terrific! The staff was really nice and helpful, from check-in to dining; you could tell everyone enjoyed working at this lovely family-run inn. We could only stay one night this time, but will definitely be back again for a longer stay.

Having lived and worked here my entire life, I must say it would take an effort to not enjoy it here! While running an inn is a 24/7 job, what's not to like when you're working on the ocean front in a idyllic New England town. Hope you can make it back for an extended stay.

The second 'B' in B&B is just as important as the first! Peter (our chef) has been here for years and is one of the greatest assets at the inn. From the blueberry pancakes to the eggs Benedict, he has got it down pat. I will send your compliments his way.

The Seaward Inn is located at the tip of Cape Ann, across the street from a shallow cove. We had a view of the ocean out our windows. Although the building is quite old, the double-hung windows all worked properly to let fresh sea air into our room. I enjoyed chatting with guests from Albany NY and southern Germany. The walk to town along the ocean bluffs was just far enough to get some exercise.

We stayed at the Seaward Inn June 10-14, 2011. This was our first stay at this Inn...to be honest I wasn't sure what it would be like considering I found it online and crossed my fingers that it was a good choice. Fortunately, it was a GREAT choice. I cannot say enough about this wonderful Inn. The Inn itself is extremely charming and clean. The entire staff is welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is deliteful...the chef was so accomodating and kind! Loved our room! Loved the view! Great location! Sunday Morning Live - music was WONDERFUL!! Got a room, it was nice and what I would expect for a B&B. Check in was pretty simple and our stay was nice and quiet. We were told that breakfast was at noon and took our time getting ready and got downstairs around 10:45 right before check out. I asked about breakfast and the girl at the desk didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Told me to check out the dining area and apparently breakfast was over at 10:30. Didn't seem to think it was a big deal until after I was annoyed and walking out. I can understand misinformation happens, but I really felt it was handled too casually and we went elsewhere for breakfast. If a nice quiet place is what your looking for, this is a good place if you don't mind slight disorganization.

The location is restful with fresh, cool sea breezes and a lovely view from the main inn's breakfast room. The staff is extremely friendly and competent. Our adjoining rooms in the carriage house were basic but a good value in terms of how many people they slept.

My husband and I have both traveled the country and have stayed in all types of inns and b&bs, few have come close to The Seaward Inn. It's not super fancy, but has an easy ellagance. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and super clean. The feeling you get when you walk in, is one of comfort and of being at home. The food in the morning was fresh and delicious. The pumpkin pancakes were so tasty!. This area is beautiful and wonderful on it's own, but to stay anywhere other than here, would be taking your trip down a notch! We can't wait to go back!

We have stayed six or seven times over the last fifteen years or so and always find the Inn to be so comfortable, restful, and homey....like visiting a favorite relative! Our stays are usually three days as we enjoy the area very much and need the time to visit all of our favorite places. The breakfasts are always delicious, with enough variety, and substantial enough to give your day a good start. And you can't beat the sea views, with the Inn right on the rocks so close you might imagine the waves' spray on your face! We love this place and hope for many more visits. Friends in SC

My husband and I visited for our wedding anniversary. We live nearby but needed a few nights away. We had a great time. The walking trail takes you right to the restaurants and shops near Bearskin Neck. The ocean view during breakfast was very romantic. We really had a wonderful time for a very reasonable price. My wife and I stayed at Seaward for three days recently. We liked the Inn very much. We are older people, in our late 60s, and the Seaward took us right back to the 1950s in a nice way (the 1950s weren't all good, but that's a discussion that would take us far afield from the purpose of this review). The room had a beautiful view of the ocean, but it was cheaply furnished, there was acoustic tile in the ceiling, and the bed wasn't especially comfortable. This was the only negative aspect of our stay and it wasn't all that bad, just below the standard set by the rest of the Inn. As to that, the people who run the Inn were extremely nice, the dining room is great with a beautiful view, the breakfast food was excellent, and the place was quiet. It wouldn't take any convincing for us to return.

After 4 concentrated days at a family wedding we chose the Seaward to have a moment alone. It was perfect! Breakfast was outstanding and we were able to eat alone with a great view, not at a communal table; we had plenty of that at the wedding. Visits into Rockport and Gloucester were only minutes away.

Our stay at the Seaward inn was very comfortable and reminded us of being home. The nearby scenery was beautiful and there were many attractions. I would recommend Seaward Inn to anyone going to Rockport for a nice relaxing get-a-way. :]

We stayed a few nights at the Seaward Inn in Rockport. We found the young waiters, waitresses extremely polite and accomodating. The weather was good and we enjoyed walking down Bearskin Cove. The breafast was satisfactory and ample amunt of all offerrings. We found the rooms clean and comfortable. The only real complaint seemed to be some of the guests. Me and my female partner always say hello to any one we passed at the Inn. I don't think more than 50% acknowledged our courtesy and returned it. I even went out of my way to open the door for a women and her daughter and they didn't even look at me, never mind thank me. Another gentleman apporoached me while I was seated across the street admiring the ocean and we spoke for quite a long time, howver when I saw him later with his family nad said "Hi", he did not acknowledge me.He said that he had been coming to the Inn for 25 years.

Our room was dated, but very clean. The staff couldn't have been more gracious and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay.

We enjoyed the Lover's Cove room with a beautiful view overlooking the ocean, excellent breakfasts, relaxing on the porch, walks along the sea and into Rockport. A perfect vacation getaway.

I never have stayed at a bed and breakfast, and on top of that, I had never visited this area. My expextations were mixed. To say the least, I was pleased well beyond my expectations. The Inn and the surounding neighborhood was unbelieveably beautiful. It was extremely quiet, and everybody you passed on a stroll, or whatever, were extremely friendly. On top of that, the scenery was like a view off the coast of Europe onto the Mediterrian Sea ! The sunset was AWESOME !!! If you'relooking to relax, there is no better place in this area .... it just isn't possible !!!! Thank you Seaward Inn !!!

Been up to Rockport many times so I knew the area (my favorite place), first time at Seaward Inn though. Wonderful breakfasts, nice people, extremely clean rooms, gorgeous views. Loved the garden path to Old Garden Beach and the short walk to town. No need to drive much. Very relaxing. I hope to stay at the Seaward in the future! We really appreciated the innkeepers midweek special rates in Sept. which made our stay very affordable.

Three years ago we found the Seaward Inn by coincidence, and we stayed for a few days. we were pleased by its old world charm and prime location by the ocean with ocean view. When you like to enjoy the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, and to relax it is the place to be. For us a reason to return, and hopefully in the future on an annual basis. A very helpful and friendly staff, good choices of breakfast possibilities, during the day access to coffee & tea, daily clean towels in our room! A short walk to a sandy beach and to the very picturesque village Rockport.

I will certainly come back.

Friendly and very helpful staff. They went out of the way to make me feel at home - lovely surrounding spacious public rooms.

It started with the view, the friendliness of the staff, the enormous breakfast buffet, the location, walking distance to shops along the shore. Wish I could have stayed longer. Relaxation and Fun.

Our stay at the Seaward Inn in rockport Mass was a most relaxing and enjoyable one. the location was fabulous, We had a beautiful ocean view from our porch. We did not have to take the car anywhere once we arrived. The walk to downtown is both scenic and beautiful along a wooded foot path adjacent to the ocean. The full country buffet breakfast in the morning was quite delicious, everything from fresh fruit to omellettes made to order. I would highly recommend this charming country inn.
