The Samuel Sewall Inn

Reviewed August 18, 2011 My wife and I just completed our brief stay at The Samuel Sewall Inn. This was our first stay here and I am delighted to say without hesitation that we will return. We wanted to stay within walking distance of Fenway Park along with having safe and secure parking for a reasonable cost. The Sewall provided both plus a lovely, clean, quiet, comfortable and friendly place to stay. I would highly recommend, Now if the nice people at Sewall Inn could of helped the Red Sox win, well that might be asking a bit much.

It was our 30th wedding anniversary and we visited Boston for the week. The staff was outstanding and helpful our entire time there. I am sorry I do not remember the names of the inn keepers on hand our first night July 31st. They went over and above to insure our stay was an excellent one. The room was comfortable, with a king size bed. The bathroom was small but very clean and well stocked at all times. The location was in what I would describe as a quiet neighborhood, with easy access to the subway or taxi service. The food was good and filling for the two of us. We will keep this location in mind for any future stays in the Boston area.

We only stayed one night but were very impressed with the cleanliness, convenience, and ambience of this historic inn. Wonderful period details - loved the wood floors, stained glass windows, antique furniture. Didn't stay for the full breakfast but the continental buffet was all that we needed. Would definitely stay again!

We still have family and friends in Boston, so everytime we come to visit from California we stay here. The prices are very reasonable, the rooms are both comfortable and homey, and everyone is very helpful and pleasant.

Staff was great, food very good, room very nice and a perfect location for my visit. Will stay again

The Samuel Sewall Inn is a feast for ther eyes for those who enjoy history, an antiquie atmosphere, and remember the yesteryear warmth of Yankee Grandma's traditional parlor. Everything is well maintained and without any taint of tasteless glitz. I was pleasantly surprised to find my bathroom floor heated and appreciated the hairdryer, Q-tips and cotton balls among other things. The Inn is located on the corner of St. Paul Ave. which is a somewhat busy street for very light sleepers, but there are side-street quiet rooms available on the Sewall St. side. By experience, I can tell you that it was a quiet as my home in the country. I felt that I had discovered a well kept secret with this Inn, and will especially send my non-American visitors there when they visit Boston. I look forward to my next stay.

Although we did not have the good fortune of being able to stay at the Samuel Sewall or the Bertram Inn for our scheduled vacation this past holiday season, I wanted to write this review, and also thank the staff for their understanding of our unfortunate circumstances We were initially to arrive at the Bertram Inn (the sister to the Samuel Sewall Inn), on the 29th of December 2009, and transfer to the Samuel Sewall on the 31st for the remainder of our stay. However, I became ill and unable to travel, so we contacted the inn, and dropped that first night's stay, and said we would be there for the 30th, staying until the 3rd of January 2010. Again, my illness kept us from traveling, and we ended up cancelling the entire trip altogether, much to my dismay. Scott was very helpful in getting the rooms rented out, and kept us from having to pay for a stay we were unable to make, resulting in only the lost of our initial deposit. I felt this to be very fair, as the notice we had to give was within 24 hours, a far cry from the 2 weeks required, but showing goodwill and compassion, the staff at these two B&Bs eased at our financial pain, and also extended the offer of an upgrade, when we are able to finally make this trip. In these days, there are not many businesses that will make this effort at a last minute, when they have the ability to charge the full price, and not worry about it, but the management of these two facilities made an extra effort, so we would not have to suffer insult to injury, by having to pay for a missed vacation. We will definitely be taking our trip to Boston, and will certainly stay at these two inns in the near future, and I would highly recommend such a fair, reputable, friendly and compassion establishment to all those who plan a visit to this town. Thanks again to Scott and the Staff at the Bertram Inn & the Samuel Sewall Inn.

Lovely B & B with a caring, informative staff. The breakfast and snacks were delicious! The location safe & convenient. Quiet elegant setting w/ personal touches. The room was large, clean & beautifully decorated. Great selection of morning papers. Highly recommend staying here!

This was my first time at an inn and it has definately set the standard high. The neighborhood is beautiful and the inn is warm and cozy. The service staff was so knowledgeable and helpful about how to get around and little facts about every place I asked them about. The rooms are inpeccibly clean and comfortable. I would never stay in a motel or hotel again.

This bed and breakfast was accommodating and extremely close to the St. Paul stop of the T. I came to Boston for the historical sites and I must say that the Samuel Seawall Inn was one of my favorite stops on the whole trip! The food was delicious in the morning, and was always different then the day before. The staff were extremely sweet and went out of their way to please you. The couples and families we met in the dining area were just as happy as we were. It was a lovely stay, and I would come back in a heart beat:)

A lovely bed and breakfast. Excellent and convenient location, lovely abundant breakfast, very friendly welcome and service. The rooms are elegant and very comfortable, in an elegant victorian atmosphere. We keep going there when we have to stay in Boston.

Very cozy feeling as we stayed. Room was spacious and clean. Staff was great, food was more than we expected and we were able to access the train very easily. I will definitely return to the Samuel Sewall Inn on my next trip to the area!

I booked the Samuel Sewall Inn for the night after I proposed to my girlfriend - we both love Boston even though neither of us lives there anymore. From start to finish, it was a great experience. The staff was wonderful, especially in helping with getting some great flowers and champagne for the room. Everyone I dealt with was thoroughly professional and friendly. The location is awesome. We arrived with a car, but I didn't want to use it around town. Thankfully, one of the Green line trains stops a block away and the system is so easy to use. The inn itself is beautiful and well-maintained, and you can tell that attention is paid to every last detail.

A very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Terrific breakfasts - and a great idea to have tea/coffee, fruit, snacks and daily newspapers available at all times. Very convenient for travel into central Boston - and a nice neighbourhood. My first bed and breakfast experience in the US, and I shall definitely be looking for others!

My husband and I stayed at the Samuel Sewall Inn for our honeymoon and it was wonderful! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Our room was on the first floor yet was very private. It was my first B&B experience and I loved it! They also had a complimentary breakfast that was different every day and snacks throughout the entire day. It felt like home. The location is about a block away from the tram that can get you anywhere in the city. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend anyone to stay there as well.

The stay at the Samuel Sewall Inn was outstanding in every way.

This was our first time at a B&B and after this experience we can't wait to stay at more! The Inn is very pretty with flowers surrounding the property. The interior is quite lovely, well maintained and lets you feel like you have entered into your own private Victorian home. We were greeted by the sweetest young lady and directed to our room on the third floor. The room was huge, very tastefully decorated with period pieces. It also had air conditioning (very cold!), and came complete with a private, very up-to-date bathroom. The queensize bed was very comfortable, had many quilts and comforters plus numerous pillows to use. For dinner, we walked about four blocks to the cutest little town where old buildings have been converted into unique restaurants and shops. We had a fun evening eating and shopping! Breakfast in the moring was so relaxing. We had an ample time frame in which we could venture down for breakfast. The food was delicious, with a variety of choices from bakery items, to fruits, to breads, cereals and a hot choice (ours was delightfully delicious French toast). We could eat at small intimate tables in the dining room or out in the garden. We chose the garden and enjoyed every minute of it. Upon checking out, this time with another very sweet girl, she printed mapquest directions for us so we could reach our next destination. We are so glad that we chose the Samuel Sewall Inn to stay in. What an enjoyable and relaxing experience it was!

Looking for a reasonable place to stay in Boston can be a challenge. This Inn, located in Brookline just a block from the T, is a terrific alternative to chain hotels. Rooms are comfortable, service is excellent and the breakfasts are hearty and delicious. Their homemade granola is the best I've ever had. I would most certainly stay there again in the future.

We recently stayed at The Samuel Sewall Inn, in Boston, MA. My husband and I were very happy with everything about this B&B. The decor and atmosphere was warm, authentic "Victorian era", and very comfortable. It was very clean and we had a very nice room, with all the modern conveniences we wanted. It was within a couple blocks of Boston's "T", for quick transport to downtown, or wherever. When we arrived in the afternoon, there was a table set up with various fruit/granola bars, fresh fruit, cookies, chocolate covered almonds, nuts, crackers and cheese spread. What a nice surprise! Breakfast was a lovely assortment of pastries, a beautiful huge bowl of fresh fruit, yogurt, and the best granola i've had! Also, there was batter and a hot Belgian waffle iron, ready for us to make our own, fresh waffles. Great coffee, and again, everything was lovely. We would absolutely recommend this place and would also stay there again, if we go to the Boston area.

I set out to conquer Boston's Heartbreak Hill and discovered Brookline. I was booked at a Boston hotel for the Boston 2008 Marathon, but wanted to stay at a B&B...a usual preference. I found The Samuel Sewall Inn through the bedandbreakfast website, and decided to be adventurous. Brookline is a quick trolley ride from the center of Boston. The trolley stop couldn't be more convenient from the inn. I was greeted with a warm sitting area filled with afternoon delights. The inn has the warmth of grandma's house with the travel assistance of a hotel. I appreciated the inn's consideration of putting out a tray of carbo-load breakfast for runners who had to leave very very early for the marathon. I truly enjoyed the quiet afternoon and evening tea time in the living room. Oh, the apple cinnamon cheddar bread pudding was hot and yummy. The afternoon chocolate chip cookies is chewy and delicious. Making my own waffles was a lot of fun. The warm sun even came out during my stay, and it was perfect for breakfast on the patio. Staying outside of Boston for my trip to Boston was a wonderful experience. The Seawall Inn is a lovely B&B in a perfect location. I can't wait to try the Bertram Inn across the street.

We stayed at the Samuel Sewall Inn the night of Friday, August 3, 2007. Our room was pleasantly cool during a particularly warm and humid spell of weather. The room was very clean and welcoming. Beautiful antique furniture to match the architecture of the building. Bathroom facilities were newly restored but in sync with the Victorian design of the building. A communal fridge out in the hallway was a nice touch for guest's use. Beds turned down with a chocolate on each pillow and fresh flowers in the room were nice touches. Breakfast was an unexpectedly pleasurable experience. Large fresh fruit salad that included blackberries and raspberries, ricotta blueberry pancakes, fruit breads, Parmesan scones, and the usual assortment of muffins, coffees, juices, etc. I understood that each day, the cook prepared different specialties. You could dine inside at quaint little tables overlooking flower gardens or outside in a garden area where we had a chance to meet guests from Germany and Tennessee. The Inn is located very close to a train stop, although I cannot remember which one now. There were several good restaurants nearby and the neighborhood was quiet and felt safe. Parking was a bit limited on site; however, when the lot was full, overflow could use a nearby parking lot. Inn management was friendly, efficient, but not in your face. It was a very nice experience and I will definitely return there on my next trip to the Boston area.

Samuel Sewall Inn is a convenient (on Green Subway line, in Coolidge Corner) and cosy little alternative to regular hotels in Boston. The service is excellent and the furnishings very comfortable. Frette towels and linens add some luxury and pampering. Breakfast is more like continental fare but it's fine.
